Chavelos Mexican Bar & Grill

Stopped by for lunch and was very disappointed. Had the chicken nachos for $19. When they arrived I thought it was the $7 happy hour order. VERY SMALL portion. Not worth the money. I would have only given one star but the extra star was because our server was nice. The manager came by to check on us and when I asked if that was the happy hour portion, she said no it was the regular menu item. I told her it was not worth $19 and she just said, "oh" and walked off. We won't be back.

Dined here yesterday and enjoyed happy hour, given my wife and myself travelled from Australia, we were not surprised at the high level of service we received. Australian staff could certainly learn a thing or two from these guys. I get we do not 'have' to tip in Australia, however we often do on the rare occasion we get great service. The food here is also authentic, and if you don't walk away full, and with a take home box I will be surprised. The chef even went next level and prepared us a special hot chilli pork dish, YUM! (see pic) Very affordable and more like an experience, than just another night out for dinner. I highly recommend it to one and all.

Amazing place. Ever since our favorite Mexican closed, we've been looking for a replacement, and this is certainly it. Generous portions are totally worth the value. Staff was absolutely amazing, especially Abraham. This place needs more people to know about it for sure.

The service was to die for. Do yourself a favor and order the El Jefe. It is like a flavor explosion. We also got the fajitas and chimi. The fajitas had tons of meat and veggies and were so good. The chimi was I exactly what I need in my life today. Thank you

Absolutely the worst Mexican restaurant I've been to. When we walked in the door the place had a funky smell; we should have just acknowledged that and left, but we didn't. We ordered a couple of margaritas (they were weak) and chicken street tacos, chicken quesadillas, and guacamole. The guacamole had a ridiculous amount of onions and tomatoes and not enough avocado. The chicken was "shredded" but honestly had the texture and flavor like it was from a can... and it was incredibly watery! Puddles on the plates and squirting out when we took a bite. We didn't take more than a single bite each of the 3 items. We asked for the check and when the waitress asked how our meal was, we let he know how watery and flavorless the chicken was... and she replied, "that's how we make it." Well, okay then. I'll be sure to warn others.

Our experience was quite different—there’s currently a large sign that still says Coyotes, which we’ve visited for about 10 years, and a notice on the door stating “permanently closed,” with the doors locked to all business. If this is in transition to a new establishment, I’d be happy to update my comment once it’s officially up and running. As of now, the posted signage and our experience reflect otherwise. Fantastic Food and great Happy Hour ! Chips with salsa and bean dip to start with and several great beers on tap. There were 5 kinds of enchiladas and the 2 options we selected were fantastic! Adobo Burrito and loaded Nachos are also great. We keep coming back for great Mexican food but will have to time it better for a more affordable option...

I recently visited Chavalos Mexican Restaurant and was incredibly impressed with their exceptional service. As a vegan, I often struggle to find suitable options at traditional Mexican eateries, but the manager and staff at Chavalos went above and beyond to accommodate my dietary needs. Although there wasn't anything specifically vegan on the menu, they took the initiative to prepare a special dish for me. They brought out a delightful combination of beans and salad, ensuring that I didn't leave the restaurant hungry. This kind gesture is something I haven't experienced anywhere else, and it truly made my visit memorable.

Amazing food! TASTY drinks. Must try the Paloma. Fresh, not overly sweet. Cute cactus cups it's served in. The service is impeccable. Ruben is an absolute delight and is very knowledgeable. Ambience made me feel like im in Mexico

If you're craving real Mexican food, this is the spot! Authentic flavors and a welcoming vibe. I'll be returning with my family for sure.

Never a bad meal at Chavelos. Can't get my husband out for mexican too often, but he was so happy with the tamales, he got some to go. As always Raul is a great host and Angel our waiter was top notch. The restaurant is clean and welcoming. Always my first choice for Mexican food

Happened upon this place after purchasing a car at the auto mall. Was in the mood for Mexican and we were on this side of town. Moljacete was probably the best Moljacete I have ever had in my life. My husband and I shared and it was plenty of food for the both of us .

Very good food and service!!! Very fast servers! Not a very big place but it's comfortable and casual. Usually the smaller places have the better food and that stands true for this place!!

I LOVE this place! I've always had great quality food and the service is always stellar! I used to go to another Mexican restaurant spot but was never happy with how my tummy felt the next day. This place is delicious and never crowded but should be! It's a cute spot with excellent food. Do check them out

This is a good Mexican place. Went with my friends on a Saturday afternoon. It is not busy. We had a good time. Unfortunately, it is not Happy Hour. Happy hour is from Monday to Friday from 3pm until 6pm. During Happy Hour, their draft beers are 4$, and classic margarita is $6.95. Some appetizers are $8.95, i.e., mini street tacos quesadillas, mini taquitos dorados, nachos, and tacos. I had a chimichanga a parilla. The meat was tasty and tender. I had mine with the green sauce. My meal came in with beans and rice. I had left over. My other friend enchilada. My other friend also had a chimichanga, but his was shredded meat with the red sauce. For Yelpers, if you check in, you get a free Bunuelo.

Food: enchiladas verdes, bbq ribs They give you free refried beans dip and fresh salsa with chips. Both were delicious and I could have made a meal from that! The enchiladas were just ok. I prefer shredded chicken but theirs were grilled bits. Also the green sauce was just ok. The serving was large and I could only finish half. I would come back again to try some appetizers.

We came here recently with a party of 7. The server quickly pushed some tables together and got us seated. We appreciate that everyone here is always very nice and very attentive. The server was asked to make some ingredient substitutions and did it with a smile. We all enjoyed our meals. Don't know why we hadn't been here in a while, but we'll be back soon!

Eating at Chavelo's again with friends. The service is excellent as usual and the ambiance the same, very Mexican and extremely clean and well decorated. I ordered the Taco salad with shredded beef, steak fajitas, ceviche, carneasada burrito and steak street tacos for the 5 of us. The food was superb as always. My guests really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The prices as very reasonable and within anyone's budget. I'd give this fine restaurant 10 stars if I could. I'll be back again and again.

It was a long day. I needed chips and beans and a marg STAT! So instead of going to our normal place, we decided to give Chavelos a try, given it's about 10 min closer to our house than our normal place. Rolling up at around 515pm, I was a little worried because it's never a good sign when the parking lot is empty. The place was pretty empty too except for one other couple eating. Now, I won't lie, I know 515 is early bird time but Happy Hour and there were people who came in a few minutes after us and it started to get busy as we were leaving. The place is decorated cute and is fairly clean. The furniture is a little worn but as long as it's clean, I don't judge too hard. The service we got was ok. There was always someone different coming to our table so I don't know if they share duties or if there was some confusion. I try really hard to not be offended when people who sit after us are served first but maybe that was an oversight by the restaurant? Who knows? I will say that everyone was friendly, even if not the most attentive. I ordered a grapefruit fruit margarita but they were out of grapefruit so I switched to strawberry. No big deal but make sure when you order, you specify HH so you don't get charged full price if you are within HH time. It was a bit watered down/lacked flavor and had a sugar rim (disgusting) so I doubt I'd order it again but it was ok. The free chips/beans/salsa was really good. I have ZERO complaints about the food here. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. I wanted to try the Yelp check-in dessert but I was very full at the end of the meal (and it wasn't on the menu so I felt a little apprehensive) but I saved it for next time!

Excellent food and service. Great ambiance as well. We got the molcajete and the meat was so tender and flavorful! We will be back for sure.

Carnitas enchiladas were amazing and so was the chile verde. Also included was fideo soup and bean and salsa dip. Definitely will return. Excellent service and don't forget the happy hour margaritas.

This is my go-to place every time that Molcajete craving comes calling. This place seriously makes them the best, my favorite one is the meat one. Who wouldn't want several kinds of meat and cojita cheese coated in a creamy, spicy queso? It is one of the best creations ever and I'd recommend everyone try it at least once in their life. They also have great food in general. I've ordered other things from them like Fajitas and Enchiladas, everything is always great. The service is very friendly also and they aren't the type that makes you feel bad if you can't speak the language or pronounce something correctly.

We decided to give this place a try since we are always driving by it, we got there at around 3:30pm and they had just opened at 3pm so, we were the 1st ones there for the evening (this was a Tuesday night) Mon thru Thurs they don't open until 3pm & earlier hours are Fri, Sat and Sun. We were greeted quickly and our server was friendly and personable, we were brought chips and salsa and bean dip (that was not tasty at all) the chips and salsa were fresh and good, we started with a draft beer (Pacifico I think is what my boyfriend had) and I ordered a margarita on the rocks (easy ice) and it was delicious and pretty strong because I was feeling a bit giddy but, I hadn't eaten anything all day, looking at other pictures though with the restaurant I'm a bit disappointed in my glass size since all the others are twice the size of the one I was served??? We ordered the chicken fajitas minus the tomatoes and we also ordered a chimichanga with red sauce and rice and beans and it was A lot of food because I took 1/2 my fajitas home and had them for lunch the next day and I also got a free dessert at the end (it was free from Yelp for checking it) it was fried tortillas with cinnamon and sugar with chocolate sauce drizzled on top and a little whip cream and I thought it was delicious. We look forward to coming back and trying something new next time, thank you for the great service and I wish many years of success to you and your establishment.

The most amazing margaritas and food. Loved the salsa! Liked the cute environment and super service. We visited last weekend based upon a friend's recommendation and it did not disappoint! We will return upon our next visit and have already recommended it to others.

The food is flavorful and came out fast! Delicious fish tacos and menu has plenty of options including vegetarian options. Staff is super friendly and definitely wants you to enjoy your visit.

Great Mexican food. The chip/salsa/beans are wonderful. Drinks are good and got a bucket of beer. Seemed to have a lot of workers, however, it seemed like each person had their own task and services was slow because of this. There seemed to only be one server which would take order and deliver the food to the tables. Feel bad for the guy watching the others not do as much. But besides the slowness the food was great. I would like to try again to see if the staff just had an off day. Would recommend. Yelp checkin at this time received the desert for checking in.

I'm blown away, first time here the service and food portions were excellent. The decor highly functional yet tasteful. They have good sized booths, tables, and a bar area. The restaurant sits up on a nice elevated plot facing sunset. The servers were all very nice and knowledgeable. They were out of the spicy salsa so the chef made habanero salsa for us on the spot. This place is a must to try in the south east/henderson area.

Would drive past the place for years, finally stopped and enjoyed a happy hour special mango Margarita, some street tacos and hardshell tacos. Presentation of the food was fantastic, and for the price I will definitely be back. Kind of a small place, but love the ambience. Service was an A+. Happy hour is Monday through Friday 3 PM to 6 PM, I would say worth a try.

Surprisingly after eating at coyotes looking to find a new Mexican place. Got 1 free serving of chips beans and salsa want more it's 4 dollars. All drinks refills 2.00. Food didn't taste good. Won't go back.

From opening until now we have frequented this restaurant and it's been great, good and not good over the years. I can ignore the fideo soup with three noodles, taco shell that's falling apart as soon as the plate is set down, watery salsa and burned beans but tonight we asked for one extra salsa (extremely small bowl) and our server told us the management is now charging $4 for a second 3 oz bowl. Ridiculous!

My fiancé and I came here for dinner at 6pm on a Friday and loved it. They had no wait, so we were seated instantly which was nice because we didn't make a reservation. They brought us chips and salsa immediately, then we ordered guacamole and drinks which they also brought out really quick. Our server was very friendly too. As for the food, the guac was heavier/chunkier than most other Tex Mex places I've been to. My fiancé loved it. I got the chicken quesadilla which was solid, and my fiancé got the barbacoa entree and loved it. I usually am not a fan of barbacoa but very much liked this entree. Last, prices are really reasonable here. Definitely recommend this spot, and I heard their breakfast is solid too.

If you are looking for some pretty darn good Mexican cuisine. Look no further. Chavelos is the place to go. Service was great, quick and super friendly. They went above and beyond during our entire dining experience. We came with a larger party and they kept all our drinks topped off and plates cleared out. The food, was flavorful, portions were great and by far some of the best Mexican food I've found out here. Their Sopes were to DIE for and the Sope was crispy and yum. The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars is because the ambiance. It was laid back and casual. Nothing special or memorable. Seats were comfy however. This is a definite must try! The food doesn't disappoint. The drinks looked really yummy too. I will definitely go back.

Been coming here since they opened and love it. Service is always great, everything is always clean and the food is always hot. I usually get the same thing cause I love it, but last time I tried the chili Colorado and it was amazing so now it's my go to. If you haven't been here yet you need to check it out. Great spot!

The food is amazing! We started with chips, salsa and beans, then had Fideo soup and moved onto our entrees. We had chicken fajitas and cheese enchiladas...both absolutely delicious! Will definitely be coming back.

The food was absolutely awful. Ordered this seafood platter. Only could stomach a few bites. It tastes absolutely disgusting. Combination of the seafood not being fresh and the preparation.

I had been here once before for a girls night out and been talking my husband we need to go here together. Welp! Tonight's the night! We decided on chicken fajitas for 2 and there was so much food we brought the rest home to our son! It was very good! Lots of chicken and veggies. The service was great, I don't know a lot about the ownership but I think it must be family owned! Everyone is so pleasant! The decor is fun and the music is good and gets ya ready for some yummy Mexican food! Make sure you're watching for it, as you're driving down Sunset it could be easy to miss the drive! But if you do...turn around and go back! So good!

Chavelos hasn't disappointed. This day I got a pick up order of caldo de albóndigas (meatball soup) and Caldo Campesino w pollo and both were perfect for a chilly rainy day. Some tortilla chips would have been nice to get as a side but no complaints on flavor or service. Their menudo is also bomb w hominy too. Other dishes have been pretty good and the complimentary fideo soup when you dine in is always a nice opener. Great neighborhood spot for authentic Mexican.

Super good! This was our first time here and everything was perfect. We were greeted and taken to a table quickly. Our server was quick and very helpful. Our waiters checked in frequently and was super friendly! All of the food was very tasty! Soup comes with the entrees and it's very good. We also got fried ice cream that was amazing. In the picture of the fried ice cream, we had already started eating it lol. The restaurant is very festive and decorative! The music was great and the environment was a great temperature. If you check in on Yelp, they give you a free cinnamon churro chip dessert. Just mention it to your server! Definitely recommend!!!

If I lived in the neighborhood near this little restaurant, I'd walk over every day for a margarita or paloma. They are quite tasty, and the service is great! Mom and I walked in about 5:15pm one weeknight evening and were quickly greeted and seated. We were offered complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip shortly after being sat. They have quite a few menu options, so it took us a few minutes to decide. We both opted to try dishes we've never had before. Mom had the Enchiladas Yucatan, and I had the Chile Relleno Mariscos. They don't skimp on portions here so go hungry! Both were very tasty altho I liked the flavors of my mom's better than mine. I felt my dish was under seasoned and was a bit flat in flavors albeit being stuffed with lots of seafood. Our meals were served quickly and hot. We were in and out of dinner in about an hour. Net Net... we will be back to try more of the menu!

Place was very cute and uplifting. We were served chips with beans and salsa. Beans and salsa tasted great. We ordered Pollo con crema y rajas and Carne asada tacos. We enjoyed every last bite. The sopa de fideo was a delicious lil bonus. The cold Pacifico and Margarita on the rocks sealed the deal. We shall be back again soon.

I was craving menudo so we decided to try this place and I am so disappointed. The chips and salsa they set at the table were not good. Chips seemed old and the salsa had no flavor. I ordered menudo which was lack luster and not at all what menudo should taste like. My husband got fajitas and they were burned, how do you burn fajitas? All I can say is it is not at all the kind of food you would expect from a so called Mexican restaurant. I will never go there again. If I could give it no stars I would.

You don't even get free chips and we ordered tables side guac lol .. the food was mid and salty and fajitas came with the least meat I have ever seen

Popped in for a late lunch. The service was amazing! The busser was on top of it, and the sever made recommendations and made a change so I could have a vegetarian enchilada. The polomas are the best! Also the server was funny and put up with my boyfriends jokes! Definitely on my rotation of places to go.

Quite tasty! We just had a nice lunch at Chavelos. The wait staff was extremely courteous and attentive. The bean dip that comes with the chips and salsa was delicious. My only complaint (and reason for the three star review) was after spending $100 (including tip) on a lunch for four, I was told they no longer give a five cent styrofoam cup for me to take my soda to go. Left a bad taste in my mouth after an otherwise lovely lunch.

Holy Cow!!! This place is awesome! First, we arrived 15 mins before closing. We had the times wrong. They welcomed us with open arms. We apologized for the time and were ready to leave but they insisted we stay. The best Mexican food EVER!!! We know Mexican food as both grew up in Southern CA. I would eat here every night if I didn't currently live in MT, where good Mexican food is hard to find. The waiter, Abraham, was super nice as well as the lady that seated us. So very nice and welcoming. Do yourself a favor and don't go anywhere else:-)

What a great experience! The staff is friendly and helpful. The menu is excellent and everything we had today was delicious! This will be our go to Mexican spot from now on!

Family owned business Chavelo with his wife and siblings take care of you with humbleness sincerity and honestly since you enter to their cozy restaurant until you leave completely satisfied. Service is amazing, margaritas are great and food outstanding. Of course with over 40 years of experience in the valley as a cook "Chef Chavelo is the Bomb".

Tried my first time thru uber eats. The guacamole and salsa was fresh. I has the fajita veggies which was fresh and seasoned. The restaurant itself from the outside looks very classic and cute. Hope to come again to view the inside as well.

Accidentally came at closing time but felt no rush by the staff, they served just as efficiently and kindly. Standard mexican american food and menu, no surprises! Would go again if convenient. Veggie taco salad was big and filling!

This review will need to be done over on another night, not on Cinco de Mayo. Seems like a great little restaurant. Full house on Cinco De Mayo. Staff was harried and moving fast to get it done. We didn't mind the wait, it went fast. Live Music was good. Security check: In the 7-10 minutes we waited to put our name on the wait list. We observed the hostess and cashier never looking up once, both very busy. Even when busy, you must be aware of who is approaching, kindly nod and let the customer know you will be right with them. Are their false lashes too heavy? The cashier, counting large sums of cash two feet from the from the front door was making a big time mistake not looking up once in the time we were observing her. She was not aware of her surroundings counting cash, cash drawer open. Move the cash register to the back. It doesn't need to be at the hostess stand. With all the crazy robberies going on you must be more careful. Tonight they were not on their game. My friend told the waiter he was allergic to quacamole. His plate came with a big serving of it. I ordered the Nopalito Salad with the dressing on the side, as per the menu. It sounded delicious. Even though the menu says "dressing on the side", doesn't exactly mean the chef doesn't improvise. Menu said it was made with "Fresh cut cactus, spinach, red onions and pico de gallo. Accompanied with a side of Chef's special dressing." It was soaked in oil and vinegar and had cheese on top. I sent it back. It came back with a huge dollop of quacamole. Whass up with that?'!? Now I gave up. Scooped off the quac. cuz I do dare not send it back a 2nd time for fear of receiving back a dollop of chef special spit under the spinach. The salad was swimming. (Not saying he did, I am saying they didn't get either one of our orders right). My friend had a margarita and it was good. Hey- at least I did not indulge so that's a good thing. Even when we ordered dessert the waiter forgot it and brought our check instead. As I said, they were slammed. It was Cinco De Mayo. Every table full. Maybe someone didn't show up for their shift, the kitchen was getting orders wrong. Maybe the regular chef had the night off. It was an off night. Everyone has one. Will come back on a slow night and try something different.

Great Local place for Mexican food. Service is always on point. I have tried a variety of dishes over time, and all of them have been excellent.
