The 18 Best Dumplings In LA - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Lee Ga in Koreatown is known for its chilled buckwheat noodles, which are made fresh and are arguably the main reason to come here. That said, any great meal at this strip mall restaurant isn’t complete without their excellent mandu, available with meat or kimchi filling (you can a mix of both). They’re on the bigger size—roughly the size of your palm—and steamed until their doughy wrapper turns translucent. You’ll see the pork and kimchi filling peek through the tight skins that cling like a wet t-shirt and dribble with spicy juices when you tear into them." - sylvio martins, garrett snyder, cathy park, andrew ryce

Google
I had a very bad experience at this restaurant. I ordered the cold noodle that came with fried chicken. The quality was poor. The noodles were so tough that I couldn’t even chew, let alone swallow them. The chicken was hard, only crispy on the outside, and not enjoyable to eat. I couldn’t finish the meal. On top of that, the price was high for what I got—about $20 for this dish. Overall, very disappointing. I would not return

Google
We ordered the signature set ($37.99) which came with a dumpling sampler, cold noodle, rose toekpokki (mild), and we did a tonkatsu add on. The only thing we didn't like was the add on, it was overpriced at $5.00 and only tasted ok. But the rest was SUPER DELICIOUS. Everything has such great flavors. Service was amazing, he was very friendly and even walked our food to us at our table. Would definitely come back for more.

Google
I highly recommend trying the dumplings at this place in California - they're the best in town! The food is absolutely delicious, but what really sets this place apart is the exceptional service from the owners. You can tell they put a lot of care into making each dumpling, crafting them one by one with attention to detail. I always make sure to come back here whenever I'm in the area. And while you're there, make sure to try the rosé tteokbokki - it's a must-try dish!

This is a hidden gem in Irvine! CHD Mandu sits inside a food court at the North Park Irvine HMart. Have you had Rose Tteokbokki? This is a MUST!! I am now a big fan!! Love these Korean rice cakes!!🫰🏻 🥘Rose Tteokbokki - so creamy, cheesy, smoky, chewy and spicy. Has tiny sausages mixed in. - Flavortown 🔥🔥🔥 - Surprised me of how good this is!! 🥟 Pork Mandu (Korean Dumplings) - pan fried with a crispy seared crust - steamed - handmade - good filling-to-dough ratio - dip the mandu in the Tteok-bokki sauce. The pickled radish is refreshing and crisp. So good! Love the bright yellow color, which is from turmeric.

Google
Mandu (Korean dumplings) lovers rejoice! CHD sits inside a food court at this new North Park HMart, but this greatly exceeded my typical mediocre food court experience. These mandu are delicious . Each mandu is freshly made with a crispy seared crust and a good filling-to-dough ratio (not overfilled or too much skin). The sampler platter is the best value for first-timers or someone who likes their variety. The jalapeno and shrimp mandus packed the best flavors and texture. As a small aside, they do provide very little dipping sauce so recommend asking for at least a couple of sauce containers. Next time you're craving a quick meal, CHD's plump, juicy, and craveable Korean dumplings should do the trick. They even have large sets of frozen dumplings you can take home with you. Definitely something I look forward to having again soon.

Google
They messed up a simple order twice then one of the girls in the back stuck her finger in our food (see photo) when we went back to complain. Gave us an odd smile when leaving. Other ones we bought didn’t have this hole. Never going back. I would stay away from this place.

OC R.

Google
The rose tteokboki was really good and mild was still spicy. The vegetable steamed dumplings were the worse I ever tried. It’s like they were forced to have a vegan version on the menu but hoping no one will actually order it. Also don’t expect service with a smile.

Google
We went to the HMART food court location after shopping, great dumplings. We had the pork Mandalay and steamed pork dumplings. Both were great. The cashier was very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
I've been enjoying their Mandu (dumpling) but never thought of writing a review, but today as I tried their Spicy Eggplant, I thought I gotta recommend this to everyone. The eggplants are perfectly cooked, (not very hard, not very mushy) and the spicy sauce blends in perfectly with the rice. If you want to try something different among Korean foods, you mist try this menu.

Yelp
I usually go to the Westpark CHD, but a friend told me the Northpark location has new sot-bap (sizzling bibimbap in a pot), so we stopped by while nearby. We ordered the kimchi bacon, eggplant, steak, and fish roe sot-bap. Every dish was flavorful. My super-picky boys loved the steak and fish roe, and even my husband--who can't handle spicy food--enjoyed the kimchi bacon (with some water on the side). The eggplant sot-bap was a standout: crunchy fried onions and garlic, melt-in-your-mouth eggplant, and chewy, umami pork--all perfectly seasoned. Texture heaven. They give you an empty bowl to spoon out some of the rice, then you pour roasted barley tea into the pot and close the lid. While you enjoy your sot-bap, the tea loosens the lightly burned rice (nurungji) at the bottom, turning it into a delicious toasted rice soup. Next time, I'd love to try their spicy eggplant sot-bap.

Yelp
CHD Korean Dumplings Tteokbokki! I got Rose Tteokbokki. It was the perfect amount of spiciness, amazing mozzarella cheese pulls, the sausage gave a snap for every bite, and it had tons of bacon flavor for those bacon lovers. The actual tteokbokki was the perfect chewy texture and it the service was pretty fast. It was so big I took it home and ate it for another meal! Cool food court and the tteokbokki at CHD is great!

Yelp
I love this place! Conveniently located in H mart, it's the perfect stop for a mandu (dumpling) craving. I usually get the mandu sampler that comes with 4 different types of dumplings. My favorite is the kimchi one. Recently I also tried the spicy eggplant dish - delicious!!! And you get the rice tea with it as well, very authentic setup. I will be here often.

Yelp
The older Asian woman who is working the register lately is rude and does not make the effort to make customers want to return. I used to frequent this location, but have decided not to ever since she started working consistently at the register. She acts as though any customer requests are an inconvenience to her.
google avatar

Jonathan C.

Yelp
They have these new rice pots that I remember trying in Seoul and they taste just as good! I've only tried the eggplant one so far and I'd HIGHLY recommend it. I haven't found any other Korean places offering this style rice pot like we had in Seoul. I'm thinking of trying the steak one next time but overall you scoop the rice and protein out into the bowl to eat. Then you pour the kettle broth into the rice pot and re-cover it. For $3 you can add 3 mandoos too

Yelp
Cooler days call for soup and warmth. I was in the area running some errands and decided I want udon, but no meat. Wanted something light in taste. Stopped by CHD in Hmart food court. It was delicious. The broth was perfect and not overly salty or oily. Generous portion at a fair price. Can't go wrong with their food court and all of the options available. Service was quick as it wasn't too busy, right before the lunch rush. The food court is always clean and busy with families and older folks. It's just very comforting to see.
google avatar

Donna L.

Yelp
I stopped by here after work for a quick dinner take out. It is located in the food hall of Hmart. When I glanced over the menu, I was impressed by how affordable a lot of the dishes were compared to those from other food vendors in the food hall. I ordered the pork mandu soup and total came to around $15 with tax. The broth was delicious despite how lightly seasoned it was. The pork mandu enhanced the flavor. I only wish they have more hot soup options. I may have missed them, but I saw a lot of cold noodle options.

Yelp
One of the staff members was extremely rude and unprofessional. I asked if they could add more rice cakes instead of dumplings in the rice cake dumpling soup. This was not my first time making this request. I've asked the same thing before for my child who only eats rice cakes, and other staff members had no problem accommodating it. This time, however, when I asked for more rice cakes instead of dumplings, she immediately and bluntly said that it was not possible and claimed they had never done that before. When I told her that other staff members had done it in the past, she tilted her head in a dismissive way and said, "So you're saying you don't want dumplings at all and just want rice cakes?" as if my request was unreasonable. She then took my order with a clearly rude attitude. Her tone and behavior were so unreasonable that I honestly asked her if she was the owner of the restaurant. What made the experience even worse was that when I first approached the counter, she made eye contact with me and then walked into the kitchen without saying a single word. She came back much later with no explanation or apology. Even when I went to pick up the food, the attitude was still extremely unfriendly. My child really wanted the food, so I didn't cancel the order and just ate there, but I honestly regret not canceling. The only reason I didn't walk out was because my child was looking forward to it. The very first time I ordered this dish here, the amount of rice cakes was extremely small. Since then, when I made this request, other staff members would check with the kitchen and even offered to add more rice cakes while suggesting I try a bit of the dumplings. I was not asking for extra food -- just more rice cakes instead of dumplings. I sincerely hope the owner sees this review and properly trains their staff. I'm not asking for overly nice service. Basic courtesy is the bare minimum. Because of this experience, I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Yelp
This place is legit. In a food court in Hmart. The 떡볶이 is spicy and the 만두 are fried perfectly. Really reminds me of food in Korea.
google avatar

Ron P.

Yelp
Awesome looking Korean food court located conveniently inside H Mart. With the high rating my expectations were so high, but the tteokbokki and the dumplings were so mid at best. Friendly and quick service though!
google avatar

Larry D.

Yelp
Ordered an entree without issue. After paying, I asked for two cups of water, to which the cashier responded only with "you can buy." We were here a few weeks ago and the cashier then didn't have a problem providing us water. The food here is okay, there's better value at the other restaurants in the food court.

Yelp
What a hidden gem! I found this delicious Korean dumpling restaurant inside the H Mart in Irvine near Orchard Hills. The bulgogi rice and sampler dumpling were authentic, juicy and delicious. The staff were super helpful as we did not know what to order (more familiar with Chinese dumpling). Ambiance is casual, clean and relaxing with hip hop music I playing in the background. Look forward to trying their other dishes next time. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Kai S.

Yelp
The dumplings are good but for some reason, the bulgogi is so comforting. It is simple yet delicious
google avatar

Louna N.

Yelp
Shareable portions and delicious Korean comfort food. Friendly service. Ambiance was relaxed as they played feel good music. Friend and I split the Irvine set which came with beef fried noodles, rosé tteokbokki, and mandu sampler.

Yelp
i was craving rose tteokboki & was so glad that chd had exactly what i was looking for! their rose tteokboki is one of the best ones i've tasted. it comes with glass noodles, sausages, bacon, cheese, and rice cakes. it has the perfect creaminess! the only complaint i have is that i wish it was a bit spicier. either than that, 10/10!!
google avatar

KaiRu H.

Yelp
This is my favorite place for rose tteokboki! The food comes out piping hot and tastes extremely flavorful. This is definitely my favorite restaurant inside of the Hmart food court. Our food usually comes out within 10 minutes and service is also nice as well. There are plenty of seats inside the food court so there's never an issue trying to find somewhere to sit and the seating areas are typically kept really clean.
google avatar

Ed K.

Yelp
I wasn't in the mood for mandu, so I ate the spicy pork rice and the soba noodles. This was very good for a place that specialized in mandu. The sona noodles are dry style, so there is lots of green onion, sesame oil, and seaweed that flavor it. The spicy pork rice was also great and I finished that too. Will be back for my soba noodles in the future.
google avatar

Marissa M.

Yelp
Been looking for good rose tteokbokki and absolutely loved CHD's. The tteokbokki was cooked perfectly as well as the wide noodles and sausages. I loved the flavor and creaminess of the sauce, it was lightly spicy and tasted amazing. I've had quite a few rose tteokbokkis in Korea and it very much so reminded me of it. My boyfriend got the dumpling sampler platter and loved all of them. They were all fried tk perfection and the fillings were amazing. Their side of radishes were also delicious and we didn't wait too long.
google avatar

Rob L.

Yelp
Located inside the food court of the relatively new H-Mart in the NorthPark community in Irvine, CHD is now one of my favorite spots to grab some of the most popular and delicious Korean dumplings. Mandu is a Korean dumpling that is different and distinct from other Asian dumplings in that it is rather flat and is easily cooked on the grill. Mandus are usually either steamed or pan-fried. I particularly like the pan-fried version and CHD does a good job in making the skin golden brown and slightly crispy while keeping the filling moist and soft. There are many choices for the fillings, but pork and veggies are my favorites. Each order of mandu is served with a slightly sweet soy sauce based dipping sauce and a side of tangy Korean pickles -- which I love! Prices are a bit high for a food court, but this is Irvine, so it is understandable.
google avatar

Angela C.

Yelp
Get the dumpling sample plate, just trust me. Other things on the menu not worth it imo. The dumplings get a bit oily but it is so good!
google avatar

Andrea F.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in the food court inside H-mart. The food court is super clean and the tables and chairs all match! (I've been to some Korean grocery store food courts that were the opposite.) The rosé treokbokki was delicious with very creamy flavor balanced with the spice. The spicy noodle was flavorful and very spicy for my taste, and there was also chopped perilla leaf on top which I guess for me is an acquired taste. The food took a noticeable while for it to come out. I did see that they had constant to-go pick up orders so at least that was promising that they were popular.
google avatar

Yelp
CHD, short for Changhwadang, is one of the anchor food stalls at the fairly new Irvine Northpark H-mart. About 1/3 of their menu is mandu filled with pork, shrimp, chicken, or kimchi that they steam or fry. Another 1/3 of the menu is frozen mandu to take home. Basically, they do mandu. And they do mandu pretty well. I got the Chicken Mandu, 6 large half-moons pan-fried to a browned crisp. The chicken filling had more fillers than I'd like, but that's typical for store-bought. The dumplings came with tangy soy sauce and were satisfying. But wait. There's 1/3 of the menu left, and apparently some items are just thrown in for quick cash. The wonton in the Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup was just a whole small shrimp they wrapped in a wonton wrapper. There were 5 of those plus 1 head-on/shell-on shrimp. And one sad, lonely baby bok choy floating around. The rest of the dish was egg noodles that were a bit soft even though they were packaged separately for to-go. The soup tasted like instant. You can literally make this in 10 minutes from ingredients next door and for way less than $15.99. I get it. They do mandu. But everything else they put on the menu should be at least serviceable. It's about respecting customers and taking pride in everything that comes out of your kitchen. No dumpling in this world would be amazing enough for me to keep patronizing a business that patronizes its patrons.
google avatar

Yelp
CHD Korean Dumplings offers fast service and a great meal. The Smokey Pork, Pork, Jalapeño, and Tofu dumplings were all flavorful and well-balanced, with the perfect mix of crispy and juicy. Quick, delicious, and highly recommended for anyone craving tasty dumplings!
google avatar

Bruce L.

Yelp
What a nice place. Very spacious and roomy inside. Clean and modern decor. Feels good just to hang out there. Food was excellent for what they serve. I like that the menu isn't too complicated and the food comes out fast because of it. These guys are doing something right. Keep it up. I've been on a rose tteokbokki kick lately and this place hits the spot. Go here.
google avatar

Caitlin G.

Yelp
This was my first time trying this restaurant after being recommended it by a friend, and I can honestly say that it's some of the best tteokbokki I've had. I ordered the rose tteokbokki and it was delicious. There are three different spice levels: mild, original, and extra spicy. The original was perfect in my opinion. I was worried about it being too spicy, but there was a lot of cheese to counteract the spice. The dish also came with sausages and glass noodles. The sausages weren't too salty, and the glass noodles were chewy and absorbed the sauce well. The store itself is located in the H-Mart food court. It's fairly close to the entrance which makes it easy to spot. There are a lot of tables available, so there's always somewhere to sit. It also isn't too loud inside despite it being pretty busy. Overall, the rose tteokbokki was amazing and I would 100% recommend it. It isn't too expensive (around $15) and came with a large enough portion to share. I would definitely visit this place again since they have many other dishes I'd like to try!

Yelp
$15 for a set menu of dumplings, they do come fried, should have asked for steamed, but when I asked if we can mix and match the fillings, they said no. Some notes: Pork not bad Jalapeño is good Shrimp is my fav Smoked pork is very smokey. Jalapeño and shrimp had the most flavor, I can do without the kimchi. Chili sauce is just sriracha. It wasn't terribly oily for being fried, the skin was thin and chewy. They do get very hot, so be careful. I do enjoy dumplings overall, but maybe enjoy other types more. The dumpling sauce helped to enhance the flavor. As I think back to this dinner, it didn't really wow me, but I'm thankful it's available in the area.
google avatar

Andrew K.

Yelp
Got the shrimp dumplings, smoky pork and kimchi fried dumplings with spicy noodles and kimchi fried rice. The shrimp dumplings were super good. I will definitely be back to get some more next time.

Yelp
Rosé tteokbokki doesn't actually have rosé, I think it's just called that because it's pink (due to being mixed with cream). It was delicious! Their sampler mandu was amazing as well, I love how crispy they are and each flavor we tried was yummy. High price tag inside of a food court but it did hit the spot.
google avatar

Nellie M.

Yelp
Love this place. It is delicious!!!! Service is easy and quick and their quality has never failed on me. Alright ambience. But it is really good which is really all what matters with food places.
google avatar

Jana S.

Yelp
This is a nice spot in the H Mart food court serving both fresh & frozen Korean offerings. There's a good variety on the menu and I got the Rose Tteokbokki to-go. I waited a few minutes but nothing excessive, you can tell they make each dish fresh to order. This was my first time trying this dish, which was still nice and hot when I got home. The sauce was perfectly creamy and spicy with tons of flavor, but I wish there were a few more sausages mixed in. I'd probably come back here with a couple friends to try a few dishes and actually dine in since the food court is very nice.
google avatar

Fidelia C.

Yelp
We tried the Mandu sampler and the rose ttokbbokki. The Mandu sampler came with two each of jalapeño, shrimp, pork, beef and kimchi mandu. They were all cooked perfectly and the skins were thin and nice and chewy. The shrimp mandu was probably my favorite and had a whole shrimp wrapped in the standard pork/veggie filling. The beef mandu was really good too and I don't usually like beef mandu. The kimchi mandu was lacking in flavor a bit compared to the others. I would go back for their mandu. The rose ttokbbokki was a miss for me. I really dislike sausage flavors in korean dishes like army stew, and their rose sauce just tasted like sausage to me. It just overpowered all the other flavors. My husband liked the dish since he doesn't mind sausage flavors but I really couldn't eat this. Otherwise, the rice cakes were well cooked and it had chewy glass noodles too. There were sausages, of course, but I didn't find any fish cakes.
google avatar

Eddie H.

Yelp
Our favorite go to for dumplings! Make sure you get the shrimp and jalapeño dumplings which are awesome! Their ttukboki is great along with the rest of their menu! Friendly service and always on time!
google avatar

Debi R.

Yelp
I came here for a quick dinner with my daughter. We were in the mood for some type of noodles, but couldn't make up our minds. Luckily, the guy taking our order was kind enough to help steer us in the right direction. My Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup was delicious. I have an issue with my food looking at me. The shrimp's black eyes were looking at me in disgust. Sorry little guy, you were very tasty. The food court was starting to get pretty busy after 6pm. Luckily, we were on our way out...to Tous Les Jour.
google avatar

Mayu T.

Yelp
Got the sampler to try the more interesting fillings like jalapeño and sweet smoky pork. I preferred the shrimp the most but they were all immensely greasy. The dish is a 3/5 but the price isn't worth it. However, they went out of their way to accommodate a vegetarian friend by ensuring there wasn't cross-contamination on the steam-cooking equipment before cooking her dumplings, and were transparent that they can't make the same accommodations for the pan fried dumplings.
google avatar

Anita L.

Yelp
Love the K-town location and am super stoked this one opened. We've been here a few times now. The mandu is delicious, our fave is the jalapeno. We also love the naengmyun especially since it's been super hot lately. They use very fine ice which is so texturally perfect on the palate, it kinda dissolves on the tongue. If you're a fan of tteokboggi, I really like the original one here. It's spicy enough for me and I can eat pretty spicy! They also offer a "spicy" version. All in all, my favorite stall at HMart Northpark.
google avatar

Danielle W.

Yelp
The galbi mandu is the best. The filling has a nice smokiness to it that really tastes like you're eating galbi from the bbq. The mandu skin is always perfectly crispy yet still chewy. Each order comes with 6 mandu, sauce, and the yellow radish. Since this restaurant is located in a HMart food court, the service is usually quick, and there's plenty of seating. The parking lot also has a lot space because it's in a big plaza.

Michelle T.

Yelp
My order came out in 10 minutes and the service was great! The mandu dumplings were very crispy and flavorful, however, I was sad that there was no spicy chili paste/sauce. Overall, the food and service were amazing. I would recommend this place and will definitely be coming back with my family :)

Alma P.

Yelp
This restaurant is located inside H Mart. The food court is clean and well lit with good music. We ordered pork fried dumplings and fried beef noodles. The food came out after 15 minutes. First impression was the dishes were very oily. The dumplings tasted good. The noodles were very salty.
google avatar

Fran L.

Yelp
Fantastic value for the quality and taste of the grocery store food court restaurant with fairly quick service and all around good value. The typical dishes are the traditional Korean Mandu made out of pork, shrimp, and the spicy cold noodle dish, steamed rice with Bulgogi and dumpling soup that is served piping temperature hot. You must try the dumplings soup. Break the Mandu dumplings and crush all of the ingredients into the hot broth and stir with steamed white rice to bring out the best flavors locked in the dumplings. Try them all my Mukbang Friends.
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
The pan-friend Korean dumplings from CHD are good. I tried the 10 Mandu Sampler ($14) which comes with two of each: beef, pork, shrimp, jalapeño, and kimchi. I liked them all, but my favorites were jalapeño and shrimp. While I enjoyed the dumplings, I found it to be very oily. They were definitely crispy, but they were all drenched in oil. Also, for $14, I thought it was a bit pricey. Overall, I would come back if I'm craving some Korean pan-fried dumplings!

Moses S.

Yelp
I don't know what happened to this place or if we just got a rare bad experience. But the food was just not good and it was also soggy. Always looked forward to visiting this place and it put a bad taste in our mouths - literally. We didn't finish our meals and this stuff isn't cheap either. Had to change our 5 stars to 1 star.
google avatar

Daphne L.

Yelp
5 stars for the flavor! It's really good mandus. We love it and my picky eater toddler loves it! The only downside is it's expensive! I recommend though!
google avatar

Joy C.

Yelp
First time trying the spicy cold noodles, it was delicious! The spice level was just perfect. I loved the crunch with the different vegetables. The portion was just right. Also ordered the mandu sampler. My favorites were the pork and smoky sweet pork! Can't wait to go back to try other mandu flavors!
google avatar

Brian B.

Yelp
Mandu chains are often hit and miss but I was drawn by the Jjolmyun as not many Korean places around here offer it. I spent half my life in Seoul and never had Smoked Pork Mandu like this and I'm questioning my life's choices right now. I can't believe this Mandu isn't everywhere on the streets of Seoul. Not only was the mandu cooked absolutely perfectly, it was packed with savory, tender, moist pork that was steeped in delicious charcoal smoky flavor. Incredible flavor, quite possibly the best Mandu I've ever had. The Jjolmyun was also pretty good. I think the sauce is missing a bit of the refreshing tang you get with the slices of pear that is often added to this but that's nitpicking. It's still legit and they added the raw strips of sesame leaf on top, which makes a big difference. Never change CHD, I'm coming back to try the other Mandu!
google avatar

Vy T.

Yelp
Pretty good. Decent prices for them. The wait is a bit long but not too bad. It's inside HMart in the food court.
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
Dumplings were greasy. Not a ton of flavor and a very very small side of dipping sauce included. Would try them steamed instead but far too many other options available in the area. This is a pass for me.
