"The latest addition to Salem’s food truck scene, Checkpoint 221 is the largest of them all, hosting 16 carts on one pavilion. The variety is impressive: gyros, boba tea, Thai, and a cart devoted specifically to breakfast dishes. Of particular note are The Salty Shack, which serves chowder and fish and chips; exuberant quesadillas from Quesadilla Wizards; and Persian and Turkish specialties from a cart called Medes. Located in West Salem, Checkpoint 221 is just a short drive from the wineries in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and boasts a large indoor pavilion with a bar, indoor bathrooms, board games, a fireplace, and many tables. The deck has covered seating with heaters, plus additional umbrella seating among the food trucks." - Emily Teel

Husband and I came on a Sunday afternoon. Tried a few places. Every cart has been absolutely wonderful and professional. Sushi cart was excellent. Indian cart was excellent. Fries from the salty shack were hot and larger portion than expected. Inside was spacious and clean and Bartender was quick and nice. Will return, would recommend

A hidden gem. Surprised by the interior and bar, Actual AC, keeping you cool. Tried the chicken shawarma from Gyropoulos, quite yummy. The Gardenia Thai has a nice sticky mango rice. Will be back to get more. The parking situation is sketchy, so be patient and careful.

This was our first time here. I loved the variety offered at the carts. The building itself was very festive with Christmas decorations and giving trees. It was difficult choosing between all the carts. We sampled the truck with fish and chowder. The chowder was ok, and the fish was fine, not the freshest. We also ordered from the Hawaiian cart. It was fantastic, and the Loco Moco was my husband's favorite. Their mac salad was delicious, moist, with just the right seasonings. We also loved their teriyaki chicken, which did not disappoint. I will definitely be back to try some other carts. The selection of beverages was good, and the bartender was efficient and very nice. Overall, it was worth the stop.

Good place to go eat. Plenty of options of food trucks and the bar indoors does serve alcohol. The food truck cooks are professional and make delicious food, the only issue is if there are a lot of customers, there is a longer wait time (worth it imo). Nice atmosphere and they apparently also hold events like trivia night which I have yet to attend but would like to. Come here with plenty of appetite.

Nice place to visit if you’re feeling indecisive! We got Hawaiian food and the gyro both were great but kahlua fries were the star! Seating and bar area are awesome and seems to be very family friendly.

We tried this food truck spot out today and we’re overall pleased with our visit. Only about half of the carts were open around noon on a Tuesday. We tried sushi and tacos this time which were not bad. We also got jalapeño rolls from the Philly sandwich cart which I enjoyed and I recommend that item. Seating was adequate for today but they also weren’t busy. I can see how seating can become limited if they were busy, but it appeared as if they were still under construction and must adding more which would resolve that problem. I would definitely recommend stopping by, and I think it’s great that they added a food truck spot like this in West Salem! It will be nice once all the food trucks are opened up more consistently.

So glad we tried the new food carts in West Salem. First time around not so great! Today my family and I tried the quesadilla Wizard, chicken shack, the golden spice of India plus desert from sweet Seoul. We loved it all. Would totally recommend.

Yelp
This review is all about Flaming fork- lamb by Dhoha- OUTSTANDING!!! Yes yes, the us lots of good beer to be had with any number of food options, but if you like lamb- go straight to this truck & get anything with lamb. Yum!!!

Yelp
This was my first time trying this food truck at Checkpoint 221 and the smell coming out the window alone should convince you to eat here. Menu had a ton of tasty looking options but the chicken saj plate was the right call. Enough salad veggies to feel moderately healthy, enough fries to hit the spot and flatbread wrap with amazing sauce and tender chicken. It had 4 big pieces so I brought some home and even leftover it was a hit. Service was excellent as well, personable and pleasant. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This place is awesome great food trucks !!!! So many to choose from and the beers are a perfect match !!! Atmosphere is laid back with board games available, lots of seating . We will be back .

Yelp
Our first visit today and so happy we stopped! There are options to sit inside or out. We decided to sit indoors and really like the new building, bar and bathrooms. The only challenge we had was finding a place to park. Lots of beer choices on tap as well as wine, mixed drinks and sodas. The food truck options were amazing! Anything you may want. Our group ordered chicken curry and naan, vegetarian pasta and a chicken sandwich with fries. The service at every food truck was excellent as was the food. We will be back!

Yelp
Newest food truck pod with indoor and outdoor seating (plenty of shade). Ive tried a few of the offerings with mixed results. There are limited vegetarian choices and except for The Salty Shack, which I do not recommend, there are no fish or shrimp choices if you are pescatarian. I had high hopes for The Salty Shack, but it is pricey for what you get and the clam chowder is just terrible. La Argentina has a very yummy Caprese empanada which I do recommend! Quesadilla Wizzards no longer has any vegetarian choices, which is a shame because I think they have quality ingredients and a good origin story, and cheesy veggie quesadillas are easy to make. Today I ordered a pesto and tomato grilled cheese and sweet potato fries from Carver's Diner - The fries were excellent, A+ fried to perfection, perfectly seasoned, and hot. I am definitely coming back for another order of these! The grilled cheese was less than expected, kinda soggy, kinda bland. Finally, cheers to the Checkpoint 221 bartender who was friendly and hard-working.

Yelp
Food carts expensive. Food, meh. Tables dirty. Really grumpy people with surly children at outdoor tables. Oddly, chocolate beer was very good.

Michael D.

Yelp
Had the sushi and chicken cart and both were good! Drinks are a fair price especially for having live music and a good environment

Yelp
Every kind of food imaginable is available and a great setting for eating. Good for families, good for singles.

Sherry L.

Yelp
We stopped here while are Pup's were being groomed up the street. I got the Butter Chicken and my husband the Butter Beef from the India booth and both were delicious. The only take aways were no coffee at their inside beverage bar and not a napkin to be found anywhere. We'll definitely be back for the great food!

Yelp
It's like the Yard for West Salem but more spacious! I love all the food trucks - definitely a little of everything like you are traveling around the world, but from your neighborhood. Love the special nights too like Trivia or Cornhole!

James B.

Yelp
Great location, the inside is nice with a good selection of drinks. Tried the Quesadilla cart for the first time and it was good! Parking is easy, although not too busy when we went but overall a really nice vibe.

Yelp
Great food cart pod. Lots of good choices, beer, wine and liquor. I had the sushi and it was excellent.

Dani T.

Yelp
The food trucks are all great. Their trash cans are a bit out of the way when eating outside. Parking is always easy

Anthony P.

Yelp
Terrible services up front my son ordered water cup and thought it was okay to get other drinks and he is only 7 and the front desk lady thought it was okay to yell at my son .. I didn't know we yelled at kids over one cup of lemonade now . Never ordering drinks here again .

Scott C.

Yelp
Grossest thing I've ever seen in traveling to 100 countries around the world. A couple had their 90 pound dog lying on top of the table eating off their plates - and to think the next people to eat at that table will be eating right where a dog had been. Not right!!!

Dhoha A.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere with verity of food carts. The seating area inside the bar is GORGEOUS. Dogs allowed outside.

Ashish P.

Yelp
Exciting to see a great place to just eat, have a drink and relax in West Salem. Food variety is excellent, sampled a couple carts, great food, some known faces from the Yard. Overall a welcome and positive addition to this side of the river. We will be regulars here!
