"For modern fried chicken in a Taiwanese vein, check out the chain Cheers Cut (86-55 Broadway, Elmhurst or 36 St. Mark’s Place, East Village), which also does squid." - Robert Sietsema

This place is great. Everything is really tasty, lately my go-to has been the fried samurai chicken combo with minced meat rice(the minced meat rice rules). It comes with pickled vegetables too. I've been to Taiwan and had the fried chicken and this is pretty accurate tasting. Not the cheapest food but for Manhattan, 8.95 is okay. I also strongly recommend the Grapefruit green tea with minimal sugar. It's delicious. The lime black tea is also good but it doesn't come close. The staff are sweet people and always polite and friendly, especially the cashiers. I did see they once had a really rude customer who said their drink was disgusting(their drinks are awesome) and they were pretty aggressive. The staff handled them very professionally and extended the customer courtesies that they frankly didn't deserve. You will not be disappointed at this Cheers Cut.

Good balance of meat / fish, rice, veggies in the combo meal. I tried the squid which is like an asian fried calamari. Tasted fresh and the batter was light and crispy. Overall interesting and different than the usual. Not bad for less than 10 bucks. The decor is sparse and utilitarian but clean. Will try the chicken next time.

Love it. Went for a quick eat. It's not crowded at all. But I did wait a bit because they fresh fried my chicken and that was impressive. I got the fried chicken with cheese inside. The chicken was good, crispy and juicy. The cheese didn't really any favor to the chicken. The staff was really friendly and cheerful. And I still can't believe that the lime black tea really got a whole lime in it!!

Passing by this new eatery by chance. Pretty familiar these type of street food in Taiwan's night market. Surprised to find them in New York City. so I gave it a try. ordered squid teriyaki with Miso soup. the soup was lots of seaweed and few tofu. And the taste is okay. not made from real dashi I guess. But the squid was grilled perfectly. nice and tender yummy. and the teriyaki sauce was very tasty, not too salty or too sweet. The decor is simple and place is clean. One thing I don't like much is employees they were chatting with others a little bit too loud.

The fried chicken is good, but the fried seafood here is the real deal. Super fresh squid and shrimp fried on the spot with just enough batter to let their flavor really shine.
