Yesterday I thought I'd give Cheers Deli one more try. I used to go there years ago, but after some unpleasant experiences with rude employees and mediocre sandwiches I decided to lay off. Last week after reading recent reviews I decided to give them another go after fifteen years or so.
The system here is that you order your sandwich(es), pay for them and they call out your name when ready. All this takes less than ten minutes. You can also call ahead, or go to the supermarket next door while they make the sandwiches.
The selection is huge at first sight. At least fifty different sandwiches, both hot and cold and some you can get hot or cold. The sandwiches are well made, and they are generous with the meats, cheeses and toppings. Each sandwich comes with a little tub of coleslaw, potato salad or macaroni salad which are all good. I like the potato salad best.
The problem I have with them (as before) is that they use Boarshead or Hormel type deli meat and cheeses, which is decent quality, but not top shelf. This really shows with sandwiches like the Reuben or Cheesesteak. In addition to this they use microwaveable bacon, which does not work so well for hot sandwiches. Also for some reason they only have one type of ham, honey glazed. The bread is good and fresh and there are several choices, but again the sandwiches would be even better if they used top quality bread. The prices are fair for the size sandwich you are getting.
I would not buy beer here as the prices are crazy. They are up to $5.00 higher per six pack than other nearby places, but I knew that already.
In sum if you want a large, well made good sandwich this is a good place for it, especially if you live nearby as there are few other sandwich places in the area. For real subs, they lag behind other places that I cannot name.
