Chef Ae's

Was new in town and looking for good local eats. Visited here with my husband and received a really lovely welcome into the establishment. Vast array of menu choices to suit most palates and diet restrictions, and a good price for a sit down dinner. My husband ordered the Bistro Burger, and I ordered Thai green curry with tofu. He said it was probably the best burger he’s had in YEARS! (Pretty sure this dude eats burgers at least twice a week, so this was astoundingly Nobel peace prize compliment for burgers) My curry was perfect too. In all - perfect service, perfect portions, perfect price. We’ll be bringing every friend and family member who ever visits straight to Chef Ae’s <3

Love the variety that's served here very much! Chicken rice soup 10/10 (Natural ingredients 😋) Grilled cheese (perfectly crispy!) 10/10 Duck Curry 7/10 (mine might have been overcooked? Otherwise the curry itself was phenomenal! Just wish a little more was added for the $23 cost like it usually is at other places) Coleslaw 2/10 (I think mine was old and really vinegary?) Chicken egg rolls (yum!!)11/10 Service 100/10 The gentleman that served me was an angel Overall really glad I checked this place out. It's nice and cozilly tucked away.

First time here and all I could say after was WOW! Save room for the dessert too, so tasty! My husband called me from work after we dropped off his food and told me how delicious his spicy pork and rice was, he was expecting a plate of pulled pork and was surprised by the ribs. We will definitely be back!

Great tasting food! Fresh food prepared with care and the desire to serve good food and service. The onion rings were fresh, the real deal. The sweel potato fries were spot on. Both the patty and tuna melts are delicious. We ate every last bite. The seating is plentiful, next time we plan to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and wonderful sun. Thank you for a great and enjoyable meal.

Small place with charm, we arrived with several menu options listed online, in mind. However, there were several meals that they no longer served. (I was saddened upon this news when I found out the spicy roasted beet salad was one of them) We ordered the spicy beef salad. The dressing is rich with spice and flavor, and the steak is tender and delicious! The Thai pork ribs were sticky and sweet with incredible mashed potatoes! They should sell them in bucket sizes to go! We also ordered the Hong Kong burger, and the quail fried egg (wrapped in wonton) was amazing! The flavors are very present, the plating is pretty and the service was sweet! I am not sure if the plastic forks and knives are fitting to the beautiful plating, but that's the only downside I experienced. Overall, I will be eating here again, and I would HIGHLY recommend this place for experienced palettes!

Amazing little casual neighborhood eatery that punches way above its weight class. Their food is prepared fresh and served hot. We’ve sampled a variety do their menu items and everything is delicious. The burger is juicy and flavorful, the curry bowls are yummy! Those are my two go-to menu favorites. Keep this place on your rotation and support a local business, you won’t regret it!

Love it. So happy I stopped by before they closed. Bahnmi pork was delicious. Cuban coffee A+. Eggrolls yummy! Service was a handsome polite man. I wish I could get his customer service everywhere I go. Clean little cute place. RECOMMEND!

I had already eaten before going to Chef Ae’s, so I was just getting coffee & dessert. Both were excellent. I’ll be back for sure to try the full menu. The iced Cuban coffee was sweet and flavorful. The strawberry red velvet cake was luscious and the strawberries were crisp and fresh.

Just picked up a delicious meal to go with meatballs and rice soup and curry chicken excellent! Good size portion and the curry sauce had the right kick to it! I will definitely be back! Next time I'm trying one of their burgers I heard they're great! The young lady who took my order was a real gem! I actually commented on how professional she was! It's nice to see that younger people still have pride in their work!

This place is a hidden gem! The burger was beyond expectations due to the double patties, wonderfully melty cheese, and crispy but not greasy onion rings

It's a charming building and the chef is super friendly. Her food you can tell that she puts her passion and heart into the menu. We loved the potato leek soup/grilled cheese sandwich & my hubby had the pork shoulder Bahnmi sandwich. I would recommend to come to try and support local small businesses. You will NOT be disappointed.

This place is a must try. Chicken Curry was DELICIOUS!! The ambiance makes you feel like you're at home. The Chef is so nice and humble. You just know the food is cooked with love.

I enjoyed my meal and plan to return soon. I had the Korean burger- Yum! It is truly a hidden gem.

Service was great! Very sweet people here! The food was very disappointing and expensive for what you got. $4 for 5 onion rings. Two tiny egg rolls for $3 seriously disappointed. I keep saying this about Spartanburg, if you never had good food, eating crappy food will satisfy your taste buds. Hamburger was hard to mess up, however the pork bacon was cooked to the point I'd refer to as a dog chew. Coming back is not an option. My girlfriends fried rice was flavorless. Will not return... but I am a food snob.

Just had another amazing meal at Chef AES. There's a new menu and my favorite dish has been eliminated. So we tried the lunch special which was roasted chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes with a mushroom gravy. Everything was delicious.

Wow wow wow. I just had the roasted chicken served over mashed potatoes and greens beans, topped with the most decadent mushroom gravy. The chicken was so moist - cooked to perfection. The entire meal was flawless. The portion size was huge. I found my new favorite restaurant in Spartanburg! I will be back.

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Spartanburg. A true hidden gem. My go to lunch is the goat cheese salad or the yellow curry with chicken, but you cant go wrong with anything. Great little lunch spot.

The flavor of everything was great. The yellow chicken curry had good flavor, however it was not spicy at all. I prefer spicy curry. In addition to that, there were numerous chicken bones in my food. It made it inedible. After the first one I just ignored. But there was more and more chicken bones in each bite I took. Just nauseating. My husband got the patty melt with fries. It was great and the fries were really good. I guess maybe stick to burgers or sandwiches. Pretty disappointed because I really wanted to eat the curry

Yum!! Stumbled upon this place while visiting SC. It was perfect for our group. A good variety with great flavor. My husband absolutely loved the Thai curry bowl. The rest of us all had more like sandwiches and everyone was happy. The service was perfect. The owner was there during our visit and she was very helpful with our one lucky coffee drinker.

This place is a must. The food was amazing. Very friendly staff. It was nice and cozy inside. We did not have dessert because we were so full but next time.

Two of us had dinner at Chef Ae's tonight and the food was excellent. I had the Korean burger which was delicious - quality beef and luscious toppings. My date had the Thai sausage burger which he enjoyed. The fries and onion rings were hot and crisp. Nice coating on the rings. This is an order at the counter, serve your own drinks kind of place. The food is brought to your table when ready. Very friendly. Clean. Priced well. Quality food. The desserts looked great, displayed in a glass case, and most are made on site. We shared an order of macrons which were as good as the ones we had recently had in Paris. The menu has lots besides burgers, and I'll be trying some of the other sandwiches or meals soon. As it is in an historic building with pictures from Spartanburg on the walls, it makes for a nice, casual atmosphere. Parking is right beside the building.

Chef aes is still one of the best restaurants in spartanburg. Don't sleep on the Thai food.

If you ever wondered what happened to the Le Spice crew once covid wreaked havoc, it is this. The French, Thai, and Cuban influences still remain and they are tucked into the Baber-Rhyne building. The food is amazing, the menu has changed a little but a lot of the old favorites are still there. If you have never had a burger here, it will ruin you for any other burger. Be warned.

Great burger with Thai sausage and onion rings. The chicken Biam Mia was the best I have had and sweet potato fries were excellent.

Great local restaurant! Went in on a Saturday afternoon, wasn't to busy. Service was impeccable. Lady behind the counter was super hospitable and the cook came out after we got our food just to check on us. The food was ..... WOW! Good! Do yourself the favor and stop by!

Exceptionally Wonderful Experience ! Very near the Fairgrounds. We had a walk-in group of 15 persons and the lady owner quickly greeted and seated us. She was extra polite , professional and the food was prepared Hot , Fresh, and Tasty. The portions were generous and such a variety of choices, we all had something to choose from. A real treat and then enjoyed some family photos with the fun backdrops of a Train Car and Antique Old Building.

Cute little restaurant and friendly staff. We got Thai Curry Bowls, 2 with salmon and one with shrimp. They were absolutely delicious and the Ingredients were fresh. Even the picky teenager enjoyed it! Some of the best curry any of us has had. We will definitely be back!

I got the Mr. Duo burger with onion rings and cream Brulé without the sugar on top! The burger was juicy and smelled delicious. Everything tasted great! Will definitely got back with the family. I highly recommend this place. The waiter was very pleasant and courteous.

What a great little place . Came here on a recommendation from our friends. We just moved here and the food had been a little disappointing until we found Chef Ae's. The menu is so interesting and different. We both had a burger and both were delicious. Not all bread which we love . Also had a bowl of French onion soup and it was very good , could have been a bit hotter but still great flavor. The girl at the counter was friendly, helpful and just sweet. We will be back to try some of the other interesting menu items . Pop in and try it's worth it .

The most flavorful burger! You can taste every bit of each flavor in each bite. Perfect spot by the Spartanburg Amtrak train station. I need to make another trip here to try other items on the menu - but this burger is tough to walk away from.

Great little spot in Spartanburg. Just across a small museum in a train wagon. We were nicely welcomed by Chef Ae. Her staff was knowledgeable, polite and quick. We had the Paris(ian) Burger, with cheese and mushrooms on a brioche and the grilled pimento cheese sandwich. Both were delicious. The plastic cutlery has to go; otherwise a nice experience. We will be back to try again the crepes as featured at the former Le Spice.

This place is the definition of a hole in wall type place. It is modern and very clean inside. Each order is made from scratch and has a lot of detail. I happen to be in Spartanburg and yelped for good reviews. What everyone has said about this place is absolutely true. This is a must stop if you are in town. This is an awesome Spartanburg secret.

Heard about this restaurant for awhile but just haven't had a chance to stop by and eat. Restaurant is located right next to the train museum. The owners were very nice and took the time to make sure any of our questions were answered. The burgers and fries were very good. They had all the American flavors you would want with a twist of Asian sweetness. Restaurant was very clean and had a nice atmosphere to it. Would highly recommend to anyone.

The service was good but the portions are too small for the price. I got a salad with salmon. It came in a small bowl and it was small enough to feed a child. I paid $14 for this. If the food is good I'm willing to pay the price. But not here.

Had Bistro Burger and the Croque Madame. Both were outstanding. Highly recommend you give them a try. Bella was so helpful and a great ambassador for the restaurant. Well done all around.

Really enjoyed the food at this little hole in the wall restaurant! We ordered a few dishes... Hangover Pasta, Red Snapper, spicy Beef salad, and the Korean burger. And they were all tasty!! We then topped it with the Crème brûlée & the pistachio ricotta concoction that was fabulous

This place says it is a Thai French fusion restaurant. If burgers are your idea of this, by all means go. 90% of their listed items on the online menu are not available. Staffing shortage. 10 dinners on Wednesday night. If you want to go, do so quiclky. I doubt they will be be open for very long.

Have tried coming a few times. Finally made it here and had the spicy panang pork banh mi and it was excellent! Bigger than I needed but can't complain about that. Great addition to Spartanburg, so happy the chef opened her new restaurant!

My husband picked up take out. I was pleasantly surprised. He brought me home grilled ribs and mashed potatoes. It was very tasty. It had a lot of cartilage on them but it sure was good.

I cant keep my husband out of this place!!! No kidding, he goes to lunch at Chef Ae's at least twice a week! The food is absolutely delicious and the service is exceptional! You always see the owners working HARD to take care of their customers and make each person's experience a positive and enjoyable one!! We highly recommend a visit, and you will then a big fan too! Supporting our local Spartanburg small business is so important!!

We love their food!! The green chicken curry is always delicious. The Korean Burger, that has Kimchi in it is another favorite. The crepes are good too. Many of the same dishes continue that were at LeSpice. Definitely going back!

Wow, really enjoyed this spot. Really spectacular melding of cuisines in a manner that both respects and complements each dish's individual flavors. Curry had a spice level that may be a bit much for the mild crowd but I felt it was palatable and not too much spice for the dish. Cheeseburgers were also very good and provided multiple options to suit any taste. I can tell this place is about to take off. Get there fast!

I wasn't impressed. The fries tasted and looked like they had been fried three times. The service was awful and they weren't that busy. It took the young lady over ten minutes to ring up a party of four in front of us. The burgers were very small and over cooked. They made the buns look huge. The buns were surprising good and so was the tomato bacon jam. This was supposed to be my one weekly cheat meal but I was the only one who was cheated by eating here. What a waste of calories and time.

Last year I was so sad to hear that a local restaurant was closing, because they carried my favorite salad of all time- The Warm Goat Cheese & Pork Belly Salad. I was pleasantly surprised to learn, that the creator of that salad would soon be opening her own place off of Magnolia St. we were able to check it out and it did not disappoint! It's so tough to impress my husband with a burger, but he said that the bistro burger was the best he'd ever had & the fresh cut fries were perfect. Me, I had my favorite salad and it was just as good as I remember! I think I'll be making this my Wednesday lunch tradition moving forward! You can't go wrong with this place, Chef Ae knows what she's doing in the kitchen!

Easily some of the best food AND service in Spartanburg. So glad to have a great restaurant like this in town!

Best hamburger and french fries I've ever put in my mouth. This place doesnt look like much on the outside or inside but the food is spectacular. Korean curry and hamburgers funny mix if food but all ive eaten is delicious.

Amazing burgers. An unexpected find in an up and coming part of downtown Spartanburg. The Korean burger with Angus Beef and Kimchi is one of the best burgers I have ever tried.

Wonderful place!!! We were welcomed by Chef Ae and her wonderful staff! The garlic ribs, green curry with shrimp, special rice bowl with salmon with siricha aioli were delicious! My kids loved their burger and fries were perfect! We were so stuffed but got the macaroons and tiramisu which also on point. We will be back! Great little spot here in Spartanburg!

Nice find - we live in Greenville and never go to Spartanburg but did today and we had really good burgers and fries here. Friendly staff and nice outdoor eating area

The Tom Yum soup was fantastic and I also had the Bhan Mi sandwich which was equally as good! Very friendly staff.

Insanely good! Great service. Perfect. Clean. I had geeen curry chili with jumbo shrimp. I did ask for additional dry spice and was able to beat it more for me. Dessert was good with coffee. Yummm

I came here with my dad after going to the farmers market down the street. I ordered the bistro burger and it was amazing. I love the hand cut fries. My dad has food allergies and they were very accommodating. I had a great experience. P.S. The burger is huge so bring your appetite! Will be back.

I was craving a good burger and they delivered. Excellent customer service from the guy working during lunch Saturday March 6, 2021. We will be back.
