15 LA Starters That Are The Main Event - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Si! Mon’s seafood-leaning menu is ostensibly Panamanian, but that label might undersell the level of creativity going on at this beachy Venice spot. Take their Afro-Caribbean dumplings: four plump, shrimp-filled dumplings bathed in sweet coconut bisque and drizzled with smoky charred scallion oil. Have we driven to Si! Mon solely to eat this dish at the bar? Yes. Will we do it again? It’s already on our calendar." - brant cox, garrett snyder, sylvio martins, brant cox, brant cox, brant cox, brant cox, brant cox, garrett snyder, sylvio martins, garrett snyder, brant cox, brant cox, sylvio martins, garrett snyder, garrett snyder, sylvio martins, garrett snyder

My boyfriend and I came here for the first time today and let me just say, this was the best Caribbean restaurant in Buffalo! I got the jerk chicken meal, and the chicken was juicy and tender! It had the right amount of spice and everything! Make sure you guys come and check them out! Believe the hype.

Man listen, if you’re into Caribbean or Jamaican food, this is the place for you. The atmosphere at bazar is amazing, showcasing multiple hidden gems all under the same roof. The star of the show is Chef Big Wayne’s restaurant. We had the Curry stew with rice and peas along with some vegetable patties. The stew was perfectly cooked, veggies were just right, spice level precise. The flakey patties were hot and filled with deliciously sauced/mixed vegetables. This place lived up to its reputation as well ass exceeded all of my expectations. If you’re hungry GO THERE NOW! 😁🫡 (Customer service 10 out of 10)✅

Jamaican food is one of those cuisines that is always a great idea. Understanding how to layer meat with flavor and balancing that out with spices and ensuring it’s brined all juicy is an art form! The staff at Chef Wayne’s spot are amazing, not only friendly but helpful and honestly reminding you what good service looks like! They were so kind and went above and beyond, which in the service industry can be very hit or miss. Now we arrived knowing we wanted all the beef patties lol, Jerk chicken (which comes with your choice of rice & peas or Mac n cheese with plantains and fried sweet bread) and Rasta Pasta which we added Curry Chicken which wouldn’t work flavor profile wise but wow, I was shook. The Jerk has such a level of depth of flavor and fell off the bone which just shows a skilled chef that executes every time. I even received a free Pattie which I’m so grateful for! Get behind small businesses WNY! These people are great at what they do and come with talent and all the flavors.

We ordered from Chef Big Wayne Jamaican Cuisine for a party of 15 people and it was such a great experience! We didn’t give them much notice, but they were super accommodating, delivered the food hot and right on time, and were so friendly the whole way through. The food was absolutely delicious, authentic and full of flavor. Everyone loved it! The jerk chicken, stew chicken, escovitch fish, saltfish fritters, and plantains were all a hit. You could really tell the love went into the cooking. Thank you to the team for making our event extra special. We’ll definitely be back!

My experience at Chef Bigwayne Jamaican Cuisine was outstanding! The oxtails meal served with rice festival and plantains was a true delight—flavorful, tender, and perfectly seasoned. The jerk chicken and Jamaican beef patty were equally delicious, showcasing the chef’s mastery of traditional Jamaican flavors. The welcoming atmosphere of the restaurant made me feel right at home, and the service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. It’s also great to support a small, black-owned business that values quality and authenticity. I highly recommend Chef Bigwayne Jamaican Cuisine to anyone looking for the best authentic taste of Jamaica, excellent service, and a family-friendly dining experience. Five stars all around!

We had the absolute pleasure of having Chef Big Wayne’s Jamaican Cuisine cater our large-scale event with over 200 students, and the experience was nothing short of phenomenal! From the very first bite, it was clear we were in for a flavorful journey. The spread was vibrant, generous, and packed with authentic Jamaican goodness. The jerk chicken was hands down the star of the show—tender, smoky, perfectly seasoned with a sweet heat that hit every taste bud just right. It was bold without being overwhelming, and every bite had layers of flavor. The rasta pasta was creamy, rich, and had just the right kick, while the rice and peas tied everything together with that signature island comfort. We were especially impressed by the golden and perfectly caramelized plantains and the flaky, savory, and absolutely addictive chicken patties! Even the vegetable options were so well-seasoned that they held their own alongside the main dishes. Chef Big Wayne and his team delivered more than just food—they brought culture, warmth, and satisfaction to every single plate. The service was efficient, the setup smooth, and the portions generous. I highly recommend for any event, big or small. This is Jamaican cuisine at its absolute best!

We went today with our family. We ordered Oxtails, Jerk wings and Rasta Pasta with shrimp. It was FABULOUS!!!! We are visiting from Baltimore nothing comes close to Chef Big Wayne! Everything is fresh steaming with layered flavors. Hope to get back before we leave. EXCELLENT

While the food wasn’t quite what I hoped for, I appreciate the effort. The jerk wings were decent, but the Rasta pasta fell short of my expectations. As someone from NYC, I’ve had the chance to try some amazing flavors, and this didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The plantain could have been sweeter as well. I’d love to see some improvements, as there’s definitely potential here!

Yelp
This is in the new West Side Bazaar, to replace the one that burned in 2022. The new location used to be a bootleg warehouse during Prohibition. Suitably, there's a bar on the first floor! Chef Big Wayne and his nephew Kyiree were happy to see us: Buffalo was bracing for another storm (1/22/25) and many chefs and customers had stayed home. Very friendly service, amazing aromas from the stove as the order was being prepared, and a quick filling of our order. We chose to eat in the comfortable food court, open daily 11-8pm. The food was delicious! Slow-simmered oxtail stew, caramelized from hours of cooking; a curried goat meal with carrots and potatoes perfectly seasoned and tender, with mac and cheese, with cabbage cooked with a hint of spice. The plantains were lovely. We also loved the Ting soda in pink grapefruit, and a sorrel/ginger soda, both Jamaican favorites.

Yelp
Absolutely the best! Jamaican food in the 716! Just enough spice to tingle, without overwhelming. Everything is made to order, so it takes a moment to get your food. Totally worth the wait.

Yelp
He was at the Diversity Festival recently, a festival that was all but rained out. I ordered oxtails...yummy! Hadn't had them in years they're not on many menus. The serving was large, with carrots and potato and served on a bed of rice. The takeout container was compostable: yay! As anyone knows who reads my reviews, I don't like disposable.

Yelp
The service was excellent. The food was even better than I expected. I ordered the jerk chicken wings with a side of Mac and cheese. The price was reasonable. The chicken was cooked to perfection. I'd definitely recommend them to any looking for authentic Jamaican cuisine.

Yelp
The gentleman who took my order was SO nice! I'm also VERY grateful for him because he put me on goat!! I was going to order chicken curry because I knew I already liked it, but by a twist of fate goat curry was rung up. He was going to correct the order for me but I figured, why not? The goat was so tender and full of flavor. I'd almost liken the flavor of the meat to a Chuck roast or even corned beef. Absolutely divine! If you're coming to this restaurant, COME HUNGRY! The food is delicious and the portions are HUGE! The West Side Bazaar is clean, everyone is friendly, and there are plenty of spots to sit. If I could give Chef Bigwayne 10 stars out of 5, I would! If you guys are seeing this, THANK YOU and I will definitely be back!

Yelp
The Oxtail with Mac and Jerk Chicken with their special sauce on rice is chefs kiss! Food was absolutely delicious and tasteful I cannot get enough! Staff was very pleasant and nice, will definitely be back again! The festival and plantain is also like no other I've ever tasted!
