Google
I recently had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant, and I was genuinely impressed by the food quality and flavor. The dishes were vibrant, fresh, and full of authentic taste. The portions were generous, and everything was served hot in metal pans that helped keep the dishes warm throughout the meal. If you’re a fan of bold, satisfying Chinese stir-fry dishes with great ingredients and solid wok technique, this place is absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back to try more dishes!

Google
The frozen dumplings here are so tasty, the Henan-style braised noodles are authentic, and the side dishes are amazing too. Definitely a spot I’ll keep coming back to!

I lived in China for 14 years and this is the most authentic Chinese restaurant I have eaten at in Los Angeles. There is a dish at the restaurant called Pídàn qiézǐ (皮蛋茄子). It's a preserved egg and eggplant combination. Sounds funky, tastes amazing. Don't expect eggs rolls, rangoons, & fortune cookies, but if you want a taste of central China without the air fare and hassle of getting a visa, go to Chef Fu's. 好吃!

Google
Spicy beef noodle soup broth was really good!! Our kinda new favorite Chinese Restaurant (Hunan cuisine) in the MPK area. All the dishes were decent and super flavorful but not overly in any wrong way. Quality flavor. Cauliflower dish, and the Intestine tofu dish are spicy! For those who like spicy (medium spicy lovers), it's good. But for mild to medium spicy eaters, it was barely doable but with tears and sinus changes. They said to ask them for light mild spicy (translate as small spicy) because maybe the app doesn't allow that choice? Note to self to order small flame/mild spicy next time for my sake. Spicy beef noodle soup wasn't too spicy. Super great broth! Loved it!! Didn't feel too salty. It was packed with flavor. I would recommend this for anyone craving noodle soup. If you take this to go and leave it overnight, remember to separate the noodles and soup, or else the noodles will soak up all the soup...and leave you soupless haha Its a rare occasion we order beef night soup or carb items but was craving a Chinese noodle soup dish. Pumpkin Pie dessert was like an air puff with thin flat mochi in the middle. They said no dairy is used but not not too certain if I trust that too much. Looking forward to coming back and trying more dishes!!

Google
Food is delicious But not very spicy. The eggplant is the best. The pumpkin pastry is also good. They put tons of cilantro in some dishes. Toilet is hidden behind the kitchen, not very hygiene for the kitchen. Price is on the lower end.

Google
If you can handle spiciness, check out this place. This place is very authentic. Food is delicious, and the price is reasonable.

Google
Food: 5 stars. The flavor and portion of the food are impeccable. My personal favorite is the cold dish bar, where you can get three combination with $6.99. The flavor of the cold dishes is amazing. Cleanliness: 4 stars. The current rating from the authority is “B”, but it seems pretty clean inside and I have not had any problem with the food. Service: 4 stars. The service is good but it has a minimum of $35 purchase for credit card payment, if you wanna pay with your card with less than $35, you’ll then have to pay a $0.75 fee. Convenience: 5 stars. The restaurant is located in a small plaza and there are quite enough parking spaces. Overall: 4 stars.

Google
Very authentic Hunan food!!! Been here many times already. The waitress lady is always so nice too.

Yelp
Very good food and even better customer service! They were very friendly and served us up right away

Yelp
Came here on a weekday and tried it out. The location doesn't seem to be busy (we are the only table), but they have a good amount of delivery orders. Ordered a spicy beef without spicy and yang chow fried rice. Food tasted good and had good portion. The waitress was able to recommend food that can be made not spicy and was friendly. But needed to grab her attention to get things.

Yelp
Had dinner with the in-laws and went coo-coo bananas with the ordering. I will say that everything was pretty good, very reasonably priced (almost pre-COVID pricing), great portions and consistently good service. My son really like the fried lamb with cumin. It was not as good as the toothpick lamb at Yunnan Restaurant in Monterey Park, but it was still quite tasty. We also really enjoyed the spicy pork intestine which was deep fried well but still kept the intestines soft on the inside. My younger son really enjoyed the hunan stir-fried pork which was served with a lot of stir fried peppers and the saute spicy beef was also quite tasty. They weren't shy with the portions and the pairing of the cilantro with the spicier options like the saute spicy beef were great. While not as good as the version at the now closed Tang Dynasty, the preserved egg with eggplant was also delicious. There seems to be an emergence of new Hunan restaurants that are popping up all over the place serving very similar dishes and using similar kitchen gear. For instance, the preserved egg with eggplant dish is invariably presented in a mortar with a wooden pestle. For instance, Dong Ting Chun serve very similar dishes but with smaller pricier options. We went on a Saturday night and there was only one other table that had customers. There was a steady stream of takeout. I'm hoping that more people catch wind of this place. Good Hunan cooking with great pricing and good service for a Chinese restaurant. We really wish these people well.

Yelp
Food: - preserved egg and eggplant: 9.5/10, very flavorful, fun presentation - sauerkraut fish: 9.5/10 - hunan fried rice: 6.5/10 - authentic Chinese flavors, big portions Service: - friendly staff - fast service - took off a star because gratuity was included at 15% in the final check and we were not notified ahead of time there was also minimal service (no water refills) the wait staff only helped us bag our food at the end Ambiance: - empty an hour before closing - fun decor - large lot for parking
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
This place is definitely worth checking out! The food was delicious, and the presentation was super cute. Portions are generous-more like dinner sized-so if you want to sample a variety of dishes, I'd recommend going with a larger group. We went as a group of three, ordered 5 dishes, and still had plenty of leftovers (which we're definitely looking forward to enjoying tomorrow). Everything we ordered was flavorful, but the spicy beef rice noodles and preserved egg with eggplant and pepper stood out as my favorites. And don't skip the Pumpkin Pie for dessert-it was the perfect ending to the meal. It had a pain puri-style mochi vibe, lightly sweet and really unique.

Yelp
Low-key spot. Great for a quick bite. Went for dinner and had Preserved egg with eggplant and torn cabbage. Both were excellent, but the cabbage was the sleeper--amazingly simple, and you just want to keep eating it. Frog in dry pot was very good. Next time we're going to try the egg dishes. Staff was super friendly and helped us make our selections. Very well done. We'll be back.

Yelp
I came here with a group of 6 on an LA trip. We were craving family style Chinese food and randomly came across this place. We got a variety of dishes, but my favorites were the beef chow mein and the eggplant with century egg. There was lots of yummy sezchuan food and a lot of the dishes were spicy. I would definitely come back to this place next time I'm in the area!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
The restaurant is pretty small and service is a bit slow, but the food is flavorful and delicious, not too spicy though. We enjoyed the dish we ordered. Nice presentation with big portion too. Fish head with hot pepper: not a lot of flavor when I ate there but got spicier after taking leftover home and cooked a bit longer. Chicken with pickled radish: loved the flavor but the chicken is in super tiny pieces with lots of bone. Blood curd: bean sprouts was overly salty. But the duck blood was delicious. Fish in chili oil: not too spicy when eating there either. Big portion. Intestines with stinky tofu / pork trotter with stinky tofu / Spicy pork intestines / Hunan stir fried pork : my favorite dishes. Not too spicy but so good with rice.

Thein C.

Yelp
I loved the food!!! I ordered cumin lamb, fried pork and eggplant with preserved eggs. I went there on Tuesday lunch and I saw a few dine in customers. The restaurant is located inside the strip mall and decent parking spots. I saw a couple of take out customers who picked up their food. Service was ok too. Definitely I will go back especially for cumin lamb and eggplant dish.
google avatar

Jack Z.

Yelp
They have amazing food and amazing service! Anyone who love spicy food should try here! And the staff is also pretty nice and friendly to us
google avatar

P Y.

Yelp
Local neighborhood hole in the wall that is the most legit Hunan food. Every dish is so fking good and flavorful! I bring all my friends here and they are all return customers. Super friendly service and a restaurant that appreciates every customer. Weekends could get packed so suggest to go early or make a reso in advance. Come on.... Which super legit and traditional Chinese restaurant gets over 4 stars on yelp??!! Let's take them to 5!!! There's no misses here. Only hits!!
google avatar

TY Z.

Yelp
Great smashed eggplants and cultice smoked pork. Their tofu fish head soup is also outstanding. This is a small restaurant that doesn't have many staffs member, but they do their best to serve and keep it clean. The price is also on the cheaper side. This is such a hidden gem and I would recommend it to any one who likes spicy Chinese food.

Tiffany L.

Yelp
Excellent service and food ,Whether you're a fan of spicy food or looking to try something new, this place is a must-visit. Authentic, flavorful, and unforgettable - I'll definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Qiaoxing L.

Yelp
Came here with friends and we were blown away by how good everything was! The stir fried pork intestine and the spicy lamb were packed with flavor and heat, exactly what you'd want from a spicy spot. Also loved the preserved meat fried rice, super savory and satisfying. Prices are fair for the portion size, and the menu is massive, so there's something for everyone.
google avatar

Y C.

Yelp
Ordered a spicy beef noodle soup and it's impressive! The beef is very tender & juicy, the noodle is so chewy and the spicy soup is incredible! Definitely will go there again :)
google avatar

Yelp
Came to eat here with my family of 13. They were able to accommodate us. The young man that served us was great, our communication was done with a few words since we don't speak his language but he was still very good. We ordered a FEW plates and they were all great! Our family loves chilies/ spicy food and this was the right place! Inside was very quiet and clean. I would come back to try new dishes.

Yelp
In town for a bowling tournament and needed some dinner after a day of bowling. We decided to have some spicy food. This place is a small business with about 10 tables. Upon entering the employee was busy playing on his phone and didn't notice us for about 5 minutes. Once he saw us, he motioned for us to pick a table. We ordered the fried lamb, spicy trotter (pig feet) and sautéed cauliflower. Everything was seasoned well and about a medium heat and my favorite was the cauliflower, which was basic but full of wok flavor & seasoning.
google avatar

Charmaine L.

Yelp
We ordered the..... 1) frog in fry pot 2) preserved egg and eggplant (table favorite) 3) Cumin lamb 4) pork intestine and stinky tofu 5) Cauliflower clay pot 6) gluttonous rice with rice wine soup They gifted us a pumpkin pie! Everything tasted gooooood must eat with a group!!

Jan L.

Yelp
This restaurant is very small, but is clean and is a hidden gem in San Gabriel valley area. The foods are tasty and the complementary watermelon is a plus. We will come back again.

Q L.

Yelp
Grilled fish is the best! The fish is very fresh Will invite more friends to go back again!
google avatar

Yelp
My friends and I had the most delicious Chinese dinner @ Chef Fu. The food was so fresh, and every single dish we ordered was scrumptious!!! Not only that, but the prices are very reasonable and the portions generous! There was only one old lady serving, but she hustled and the service was excellent! We all agreed that this restaurant is one that we will all come to again! We ordered the: Preserved Egg & Eggplant Fried Cumin Lamb Kung Pao Shrimp Stir Fried Beef And for dessert, Candied Yams...which were amazingly yummy!

Starr C.

Yelp
Food is delicious. Haven't tried a since thing that is bad on the menu. Service was great, free drinks if u are waiting for your food. Ambiance is not bad but inside is clean.
google avatar

Tinyee H.

Yelp
Overall the food was delicious. We ordered a lot of spicy dishes that were not as spicy as expected. We ordered water cooked beef, stir fry frog's legs, eggplant and thousand year egg, stinky tofu stew, fried pork intestines with red pepper, red cooked pork belly, fried noodles, and cabbage stir fry. We were there at 8:10, and they were able to organize a table for us 9. We waited about 20 min before the first dish arrived then 6 more dishes came. We were feeling a bit full and wondered where our other 2 dishes were; we asked that they cancel the last 2 but they were already making one of them. They gave us 4 iced teas to make up for the slow service.

Maggie T.

Yelp
Oh gosh NO! I ordered take out, so maybe eating in may be a better experience. The pictures on Yelp look a lot more appetizing than what I got. Everything was very greasy and oily and the price was not cheap. For the quality and price, there are so many better options in MP.
google avatar

Briz A.

Yelp
First time coming to Chef Fu . My husband and I came here because of the reviews. It didn't disappoint. The lovely lady who welcomed us was the sweetest and the service was amazing. The food was DELICIOUS ! Very rich and flavorful. It is a perfect place for a family gathering or a casual dinner for two ‍‍Highly recommended
google avatar

Jessie C.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that this is a place I will want to come back to. I am already full, but I still want to continue because the dishes are very tasty. So, let me take a short break to write this review first to pace myself better, lol .... the free appetizer peanuts are actually hot, nicely surprised. The portion is really good, so there will be a lot of leftovers. I like everything we ordered, and there are many more dishes I would like to try. My favorite so far is preserved meat with bamboo. Okay, I am ready to go back for a few more bites.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
I LOVE the food here. I normally can't eat bell peppers or any type of peppers but the peppers here are really good! It's savory and salty, and makes you want to eat a lot of rice which is what I love. We ordered the eggplant and century egg, stir fried pork with peppers, and the frog chili pot. All were amazing and wonderfully cooked. The place is small and still new, so theres no line and it's quiet. However, food is amazing. English speaking is limited but we got through it with pointing. Definitely one of my new favorites.

Pearl M.

Yelp
My first time here trying their food. Since I don't eat too spicy, so I ordered the non spicy dishes. The fish head and tofu soup was very delicious and full of flavor, but of course lots of bones. Just need to be careful when serving the fish with young kids and seniors. The Yeung Chow fried rice had lots of shrimps, but no BBQ pork. It's a little bit oily, but tasted good. Maybe I will ask for less oil if I order any fried rice dishes again next time. Will like to try their other dishes next time.

S L.

Yelp
Came in on a Thursday night for dinner. Service was slow. Every dish was super oily and salty. I don't recommend.

Anette E.

Yelp
My mouth and tongue started swelling after eating only a couple of bites. I'm not sure what they put in their food, but I'm NEVER coming back here.
google avatar

Se S.

Yelp
We randomly popped in here because they take cards. It was absolutely delicious . We got yang chow fried rice, shrimp chow mein and spiced tofu with chives. Really good and large portions.

J L.

Yelp
I always pass by here and just do a quick glance at it because I assumed they took cash only. Today, I was curious and checked it out. I noticed a visa sign on the door! We ordered vegetable chow mein, stir fried green beans , sauté spicy beef and glutinous rice balls for dessert. All dishes were flavorful and yummy. The best part was the woman who waited on us was so pleasant and helpful. It wasn't a noisy environment around 3 pm on a Saturday. Will definitely come back!

Rundi B.

Yelp
This is truly a hidden gem. Great food, great people, great service, great value. We ordered the spicy lamb, the cabbage and the black sesame soup. They were all excellent. Be careful of the spice level though. We ordered the lamb at a medium level and it was hot! We ordered the cabbage as mild and it was just about right. The people who work there including Chef Fu are very friendly and helpful. Give this place a try, you won't regret it.

bigmelon L.

Yelp
This place is surprisingly good. Portion is generous, and dishes are very authentic Hunan style. How could you say no to this place. Love it. Will come back soon.

David W.

Yelp
I discovered this newly open restaurant chef fun(洞庭湖)from blogger's mentioning. The dishes we ordered are very authentic hunan style. The salt pepper shrimps are crispy outside and tender inside. We really enjoyed everything put on table.

Juliette P.

Yelp
Very unassuming restaurant. We walked past this restaurant several times, me on my way to the nail spa, or me with my fiancé heading to the nearby sushi restaurant, not paying much attention to this place. On one occasion, my fiancé glanced at the posted menu as we walked past and we decided we'll give it a try some day. Well we did, and boy are we glad we did that! Can I say, delicious Chinese food? I learned from the owner that the food is Hunan style Chinese food. (Forgive me, I'm not Chinese, I just love good food.) We had the cumin lamb, salt and pepper shrimp and sautéed cauliflower. Super Delicious! Try it! You will not be disappointed. Oh! And the ambiance inside is much better than you expect from sell the outside. Here are a few photos I remembered to take halfway through the meal.

Lil T.

Yelp
great service recommend going tasty food. and very cozy and nice setting. would come again and location is also nice very accessible.

Xiaoling Z.

Yelp
Very authentic Hunan food! Price is very reasonable and the waitress is friendly as well. Highly recommended.

潇翰

Yelp
Best chinese spicy dishes in LA. Far above average level. Great price-quality ratio. 最好吃的湘菜

Maureen T.

Yelp
This place serve great food and good price. However, very slow and the walls are dirty. Sometimes they serve you peanut as you are waiting. Sometimes they don't. They don't always do first come first serve. Either they serve the people they know first or simply they got confused with the order of the ticket. Sometimes I see other people came in after us gets their food first. Very inconsistent.

Richard K.

Yelp
A nice welcome addition to the Monterey park area! This place serves authentic Hunan cuisine if you're looking for some spicy Chinese food. It's a small restaurant located at the corner of a building next to a boba shop. The waiters have limited English but you can get by pointing at the menu items or bringing a bilingual friend.

Brian K.

Yelp
Excellent service. Impressive portion size. Food was made to order. Would come back again!

Denny J.

Yelp
the best Chinese restaurant in CA 牛蛙好吃,皮蛋擂茄子好吃,老板也很好,服务在中餐厅中也是鹤立鸡群。餐厅只有老板是主厨,质量很有保证。强烈推荐。
