It's funny, as a guy with Chinese background and history, I've never really learned to love the taste of beef noodles. It wasn't really my taste since either the broth would be too salty and the beef to be too soft and vice versa. Out here in Taiwan, I found this place on my yelp while looking up noodles in general. Curious about this place, I decided to google it up and what do you know, it is a small franchise that has locations all the way to Irvine, California.
Let's talk about atmosphere here. It's a very generic Chinese restaurant. You have the Chinese music and background all around the place.
For starters, they offer a good amount of side dishes to start things off. The side dishes included edamames, choy, glass noodles, and radish. The edamame were topped with a pepper and lemon sauce, which complements the cool tasting edamames with the warm sauce.
I ordered the regular beef noodle soup, or as famously known in Cantonese "Nao Yoke Tong". These noodles were fat white noodles, which threw me off completely since I was totally used to eating them with thin egg noodles. There's a good amount of broth along with noodles and a fair amount of beef. The noodles were okay in my opinion. Definitely hard to eat because I don't usually like fat noodles. The beef was pretty good. Very soft on the outside and perfect texture. Soaks right in with the broth, which I will get to soon.
The broth is the grand prize here. It's literally that good. Extremely rich in flavor and tasty overall. I could literally just drink the soup all day if I wanted to. I even added some chili sauce to heat things up and the beef broth still attained its flavor.
Overall, this changed my experience when it comes to beef noodle soup. Come here for the broth itself. Definitely worth coming back here. Well maybe not fly all the way back to the Taiwan location, but I'll give the Irvine spot a try.
