Chef Smokey’s ATL

I passed this spot on the way to my favorite diner in the area and promised myself to try it. Decided against the diner at the last minute this evening and walked in here instead. I’m glad I did because the food and service were great. It’s Mexican food with a bit of an edge. I ordered the burger with pimento cheese and onion rings…and it was really good. However, my daughter ordered the birria burger and I could not stop “tasting” it. It was the most amazing thing between bread. The beef was tender, juicy, and flavorful but the bite of the onions and cilantro took this sandwich to another level. I definitely recommend you stop here for one.

The menu was confusing. None of the menu items had descriptions. The appetizers were pretty bad. Charging $6 for chips and salsa at a Mexican place should be a crime. We also got the cheese dip, since they were the same price. It was cold, and apparently completely unseasoned. It tasted like melted white american cheese. The portions were also very small. The micheladas were $10 each regardless of what beer you choose. The entrees, however, were good enough.

The establishment is clean and trendy but a bit drafty. So I love that this place stays open until midnight on Saturday's and the Birria taco meat is well seasoned, but the dipping sauce was less flavorful loved the flavor of the rice and beans but came out cold. All of this would have been overlooked, but our waiter sealed the deal with the solid 3. A young man who acted like it was his first day had no sense of urgency and attention to details like noticing that drinks needed to be refilled and bringing things we requested like two or three times. I hope he gets more training.

This was our first time here. We heard about this restaurant from tiktok. As you can see from the looks of our plates we enjoyed the food. 😋We ordered chicken & beef quesadillas, the chicken & rice bowl, chicken nachos, Barris fries, taco plate, and the burrito. We got a mix of chicken and beef dishes and the chicken by far was our favorite. We also tried the mango and strawberry margaritas. They didn't skimp on the alcohol which is always a plus. Service was great. Everyone spoke. The overall atmosphere was wondeeful. We will definitely be going back. It is great having such a quality establishment in Austell. My only suggestion would be if you aren't a fan of cilantro speak up when you order your food because they really make sure you get lots of it.

We tried the birria fries, birria pizza, and chicken and beef birria tacos. Everything was fresh and hot. I enjoyed everything I tried, but I REALLY REALLY liked the pizza!!! Service was good. I will definitely be back.

It wasn't bad as it was my first experience with Barria tacos and they were tasty. I do wish the chips were warm... but other than that; I'd try them again. Good food and the prices weren't bad either.

Good food. The Birria ramen was a bit spicy but good. The birria pizza and birria fries was yummy as well. I didn’t get the birria nachos this time but they’re good too.

I hate leaving negative reviews, however, this will hopefully help to improve some of the flaws. I drove 2.5 hours to come here as I’ve been a patron when they were down the street selling out of a tent and the lines where ridiculously long (well worth the wait) but now that I came into the restaurant, I can not say the same. Let’s start off by their operating hours 1600-2200. We were there by 1600 and as soon as we come in we are told that they are not ready to be open as they are waiting for management to arrive. Fast forward to after 1630 they were now able to take patrons. We were seated, had a great waitress and we asked for recommendations on the fries…she stated they would be a good appetizer. Great, got the fries…they were delicious, but what i couldn’t wait for was my birria tacos!!! Well, we received our tacos and when I say I was beyond disappointment is an understatement! The tacos barely had any meat and or cheese!!!! What did I pay $3 each for because what was in it did not equal $3. I hope that you all take a look at the reviews and fix what a lot of people are leaving negative comments on and that is hours and the portions of what you all provide to your consumers.
