I took my parents out to dinner tonight along with my family (4 adults total + 3 kids). This was our first time here. We called ahead for same day reservations, which I appreciated that they were able to do. I had been to brunch previously next door at Escape 360, which I enjoyed. Unfortunately, we will not be back at Chef Sun's, and we would not recommend. The atmosphere was nice, but the food was average. Nothing we ordered was terrible, but nothing was great either. I don't mind paying more for excellent food, but the prices were a bit high for just average food when compared to places like Dumpling House or Kitchen Master, which are not only cheaper, but better as well, especially their soup dumplings and beef pies. The 2 stars given is mainly for the poor service we received. We did not see our server again after she took our order and maybe brought out one of the dishes we ordered. Not once did anyone ask if our dishes were ok, if we needed water refills, napkins, or anything. I had to flag someone down to give us our check and boxes. Today is Labor Day so a Monday night. They were busy, but not anything crazy. When I received our bill, I saw that an automatic 18% tip was applied. The girl who brought us the bill and boxes to pack our leftovers was not our server either. I let her know that had the service been great, we always tip 20% minimum and over that. I let her know nicely and respectfully that if they had not applied an automatic tip, our server would have only received 15% (and that's being generous) because we never saw her again and not one person checked on us. She apologized, and I told her it was not her fault, but I just wanted to give them feedback. Just because an automatic tip is applied doesn't mean you should give subpar service. Especially since I would have happily given over 18% for good service. If you are wondering what we ordered, we got the soup dumplings ($13 for 6 pieces), beef pies ($9 for just 2), steamed beef buns ($12 for 5, recommend), red oil chicken wontons ($10 for 8), walnut shrimp (too much batter, $19), House Biang Biang Noodles with beef ($12 + extra $6 for the beef), stir-fried beef noodles ($18), Braised Beef Noodle Delight ($17, husband enjoyed and recommends this one), and shrimp tempura ($10 for 4). Overall, dishes were overpriced and service was poor.
