The Best Lunch Spots In Denver - Denver - The Infatuation

"Chef Zorba’s in Congress Park reminds us that, sometimes, avoiding the chaos of Colfax Ave. has a lot of perks. If you worked up an appetite escorting your parents through the Denver Botanic Gardens or just finished running around Cheesman Park, hit up this low-key Greek diner. The small strip-center spot has a laid-back dining room, a small sidewalk patio, and a menu that serves all-day breakfast, an Athenian salad with dolmathes, or a gyro melt with grilled onions. Just make sure to grab a slice of honey-drenched baklava for dessert." - allyson reedy, chelsea thomas

Yelp
Where do I start the food was delicious hot and perfectly cooked. The staff brings smiles to light up a room and the art on the wall captures a story and beauty behind every customer. Recommend 10 out of 10!

Yelp
Service is great. Super nice and very accommodating. Food is fresh and delicious. Had their Greek village salad with Jiro. Yum. Dolmas were really good too. My favorite was the chicken lemon and rice soup. I took my leftovers home and everything was super yum the next day. So glad we tried it out. Looking forward to trying their mouskka next time.

Yelp
Such a cool twist on a standard breakfast! The Greek food here is amazing but what really blew me away was having the breakfast hash with gyro. It was new for me and delicious! The portions are huge and I reheated my leftovers the next day and it was still amazing. The servers were so nice and attentive, I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
WOW- I went from a "meh, Greek food isn't bad" to a "HOLY CoW THIS MEAL CHANGED MY LIFE!!!" This neighborhood gem has turned me into a believer. I was skeptical about the domades- the grape leaves wrapped bites- but I was very, very wrong. The fresh herbs, the rice filling, WOW- it was really really good! I also had never tried moussaka before- it's like a Greek lasagna, with layers of eggplant, the delicious spiced beef, and potato. WOW- very tasty! I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Was there for breakfast. Have to say I have never had Gyro meat in a breakfast burrito before but it was really good. Also had the 2 egg breakfast and it was fine even though the sausages were a bit cooked to death . All in all, the breakfast was good and the service fine. Would go back

Yelp
Chef Zorba's is such a cute Greek diner that gives an old school vibe to the mix of their wonderful options of food. This yelp event hit the spot with Breakfast with our samples. I really enjoyed my table and spoke to some amazing Yelp elites that I sat with. My Pita Breakfast was really good and satisfying. Karen was super nice and polite and she catered to my table provided us what we wanted off the menu. I highly recommend Chef Zorba's Cuisine located in downtown Denver. Very well done, thank you for this opportunity Yelp Elite Squad.

Yelp
Reliable and consistently good! Chef Zorba's has been on my repeat list for Denver restaurant for several years now, but this is my first review. This is a true to form casual neighborhood Greek restaurant with a diner feel- think the stereotype portrayed in My Big Fat Greek Wedding! Except they not only have Greek inspired fare but more American fare options as well. Consistently good food and good friendly service! Always clean and well kept. My usual order revolves around breakfast (served all day), the gyros, or any of the other sandwiches! This recent visit, our table ordered the gyro deluxe ($15.90) and the unusual breakfast skillet with lamb/gyro ($14.25). Excellent gyro and opted for chips as a side. Homemade chips that were super crispy and not oily or over-seasoned! With the unusual skillet- I was purposely stepping outside my comfort zone and was impressed with mixing lamb into a breakfast skillet and even more shocked to learn how tzatziki sauce actually complimented this dish! No regrets! Our server was Natasha and she took good care of us.

Yelp
I arrived at 715am on Sunday. I saw 2 tables occupied. I sat at a comfy booth. I was served by Rachel G. She brought out a hot coffee (free refills) and a large glass of Ruby Red Grapefruit juice. I opted for a big breakfast, Village Unusual Skillet. Large amount of hash browns topped with chicken fried steak, gravy and 2 eggs over hard. Very good. Great service. I waited awhile. Then got a parfait glass of house-made rice pudding. Yummy dessert. No service charge. Their menu has a nice range of breakfast, lunch and dinner items. While there, I saw two groups of Denver Police officers and more patrons sitting on the sidewalk patio. They have 2 gender free restrooms. Plenty of free street parking.

Yelp
The food was okay. Don't order fries as they seem like they were freezer burned before cooking and were very stale. The falafel was delicious but very small serving. They will up charge you for each item. Like $1 for a small side of ranch?! Our waitress never came around and asked how food was after it came out and our drinks were empty during the meal. I remember coming to this restaurant a year ago and it was a much better experience.

Yelp
This place truly teleports you to Greece with the food and service! The portions are big and family style which is perfect for big parties or small ones who love leftovers. I started with the chai latte which was delicious and got try dolmathes for the first time. The food doesn't feel heavy which lets you enjoy yourself through the different courses. I was able to get the gyro with chicken instead of lamb/beef with a side of fries. However, my favorite was the Greek salad! It was very refreshing with a delicious vinaigrette dressing. Ended with some dessert and could not rave enough about their baklavas. Unfortunately I did not get anything from the breakfast menu but people around me did and they all loved it! The portions are big so definitely come hungry. Lastly, when it comes to the service I was truly impressed on how quick and attentive they were. I recommend this place for breakfast and dinner!

Yelp
Had a great dinner here, a total 180* from when I used to visit Chef Zorba's when I lived around the corner at The Carolyn Apartments many years ago. The current rendition run by Karen, the owner and her wonderful staff is a beautiful addition to one of my favorite neighborhoods in all of Denver. The food, ambiance, and the comfort of the restaurant made for a fine evening for the group I was with. Everyone appeared to have a great time with many ordering various entrees that covered the positive spectrum of neighborhood dining taken to a much higher level. The Athenian salad was a masterful hit! The plate of dolmades, tomatoes and cucumbers along with pitas and pimento dip and light and flaky spanakopitas were great appetizers! My gyros plate was moist, filled to the max with tomatoes, onions, more pita and French fries... WOW, I brought the delicious baklava home! Perfect dinner! Upscale entrees and other appetizers that I viewed from my dining companions... steak kebabs, thick pork chops, Mousaka, lemon chicken rice soup, breakfast for dinner pancakes, eggs, home fries, bacon... everyone was smiling and happy at the table. What a fine time enjoying home cooked food taken to a higher level at a neighborhood venue. We will return, highly recommend!

Yelp
Good food, good service, and they're fast! It's rare for that neighborhood to have outdoor seating but they do which is great.

Yelp
Chef Zorba's is a neighborhood classic yet the food is mid quality at best. The lemon chicken soup is rated as one of the best in the city but it has close to no flavor and I always end up adding more salt, pepper, and even lemon. This restaurant is expensive and overall low quality. The best thing I've ordered was a patty melt that was $20. Not worth the price. Service is excellent which is why my rating isn't one star.

Yelp
Cute little spot and dog friendly, good service and delicious Mediterranean salads! I love going here for breakfast too and sit outside with my pup! Love this cute spot!

Yelp
This place is clean and well decorated. Always different going into a Greek restaurant vs an American one. Staff noticed us right away, even though they were tending to a large table. We were still greeted and seated quickly. Orders were taken and brought out really quick! We couldn't understand some of the complaints by previous reviews, maybe just bad happenstance. The food is good, larger gyros than Gyroz restaurant serves. Not knocking them, just comparing. My only suggestion for them is to add feta and have the Tzatziki sauce already on the gyro if you're eating in. The Baklava was also good; although I think they use a sugar syrup instead of honey, but still delicious! Overall good experience and good food. We noticed their breakfast options and will probably be back sometime to try their breakfast too.

Yelp
Came with a friend to try this spot! Always walk by it and finally pulled the trigger. I got the gyro and the onion rings. Food was delicious and well executed! Small mom and pop spot serving flavorful food. Service was great and swift. ambiance gave you family kitchen which are Alwyas perfect.

Traditional classic diner food. Friendly service and variety of Greek breakfast and lunch food that doesn't disappoint!

Yelp

Yelp
Like many others, we discovered Chef Zorba's for a convenient lunch given its proximity to the beautiful botanical gardens. It was clear this has been a popular neighborhood breakfast/lunch diner-ish place for a long time, but it was also apparent it was recently refreshed with a nice decor. I mean, I took a picture of the bathroom! As far as the food, it was filling and satisfying, but nothing particularly special. I'm a big fan of Greek salads, so I ordered their "famous" Athenian salad with gyro. The red wine vinaigrette didn't do a whole lot for me, and the gyro was a bit dry and oddly crumbly...like pieces that fell off or were leftover from slicing. Yet, the variety in the salad, including egg, grape leaves, and salty feta, olives, and pepperoncini was nice.

Yelp
Ode to the Bombastic Bistro I strolled in hungry, heart aflame, Not knowing that I'd leave with fame-- For tales I'd tell of sauces bold, Of dinners rich and stories told. The lights were low, the mood just right, With jazz that kissed the Friday night. A waiter danced--yes, danced!--to me, Like Fred Astaire with my iced tea. The menu read like poetry, Each dish a sonnet, bold and free. I ordered something hard to spell-- It tasted like a wish from hell (But like, the heaven kind of hell). The chef? A wizard, wild and grand, With saffron spells and garlic hands. He tossed and flipped and flambéed flames-- The crowd all gasped and called out names! Dessert arrived with fanfare loud: A cake that came with its own cloud. Vanilla mist! A chocolate rain! I swore I'd never eat again. So cheers to that bombastic place, With flavors bright and velvet grace. A super-fantastic, full-blown dream, Where food's a show and forks all gleam. Shoutout Ben

Yelp
Favorite breakfast place! Staff have always been great and friendly and the food is delicious, I personally love the chicken fried steak. Restaurant itself is cozy and always cleaned.

Yelp
Ordered delivery twice and loved both times. The gyro is so good and the lemon chicken soup made me feel better when I was under the weather. Only downside is I can't order extra sides of gyro. I have to order a salad or a dish and add a side of gyro. On my second order I had to get a Greek salad to get a side of gyro meat lol. My delivery came and no gyro meet I was so sad! I called in to Zorbas to let them know and the owner or manager drove it all the way to Greenwood Village to get me my meat. The service is amazing and the staff is so lovely. Thanks for taking care of customers

Jenna E.

Yelp
Service was okay but it was FAST. The food was pretty fire. Got the fried mushrooms which is a good amount! Worth it! Got the village with falafel. The falafel was tasty but small! Got the specials of the day; Greek Philly and cream of mushroom soup. It was pretty good. Cute little local mom n pop feel.

Yelp
this place is vibrant and accommodating, with lots of seating. the menu is diverse, the fries and spanakopita are delicious, and the staff is welcoming. i love coming here with my family for breakfast!!

Yelp
Love this local neighborhood spot! I think the food you get for the price here is awesome, and the waiters I've had have always been awesome! Huge portions and pretty tastey food, a favorite amongst my friends and I is the pita breakfast add gyro meat. Nothing incredible about the food overall but a reliable local spot that I am happy to have around the corner.

Yelp
The BEST Greek diner (and just diner in general) in Denver. The staff is amazing and makes everyone feel like family, not to mention the food is always sooo good. Best bang for your buck and very filling, always consistent. The Chicken Lemon Rice soup is a must, along with the onion rings and banana pudding. Love this neighborhood gem!

Ryan T.

Yelp
Hello, I've been coming to Zorbas since I moved to the neighborhood in 2012 and this one left a bad taste in my mouth. Don't get me wrong, the food is great, as usual but when the check came, I noticed a $1.50 egg surcharge and I asked the waitress does the Huervos Rancheros not come with eggs as listed on the menu with a fixed price? She said it does and proceeded to hand me the triangular stand that was hidden from my view on the table to explain their "egg problem". It would have been nice to know this beforehand because I view this as a sneaky underhanded tactic to swindle unsuspecting diners at this establishment. Best recommendation is to either let the patrons know during ordering by saying, "by the way, I don't know if you knew this or not, but unfortunately, there is a $1.50 surcharge for all orders containing eggs due to major price increases as of late. Are you ok to go ahead with this order?" Had that been known to me before I ordered my usual, I would have understood and fully sympathize with the situation. The fact that this was left out of the conversation is nothing but a money grab for all unsuspecting folks. Do better!

Jackie P.

Yelp
Great lunch. Many options for kids instead of just Mac and cheese and chicken nuggets. Great brunch still going at lunch time. Love the dessert display when you walk in. Lots of staff, friendly and attentive. Good place for family, have been here a few times and enjoy.

Yelp
Went here for breakfast a few weeks ago when we were in the old neighborhood. It was our favorite place to have breakfast during the years we lived in Congress Park. They have updated the space and the menu. The prices have increased, but that is definitely expected and they are still really good for the food you receive. The changes to the restaurant are great and I love the walk-up window. The weather was good so we sat outside and were helped immediately. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There were dogs everywhere outside, which we loved. They even received a treat from the walk-up window, which was super cute. I ordered the green chili benedict and they were very accommodating when I asked to switch out the english muffin for a biscuit and scrambled eggs for poached. It was a very large serving and really great. My husband got the omelette with gyro, feta and tomatoes which came with toast and hash browns. The only issue I had was the lack of salt in the meal, especially the potatoes. Other than that we loved our meal and the experience.
google avatar

Peyton G.

Yelp
The green chili soup was perfect. It had a good kick. The salmon and rice were alright, it was toward the end of their hours when our group of 6 came and they provided excellent and quick service which was appreciated
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
I thought it was only OK. I thought the Athenian Salad was fine, but nothing special. One friend had a Reuben and didn't love it. One friend had a gyro melt and said he wouldn't order it again. The only one who really liked their meal was my husband who had a green chili smothered burrito. Go figure. My husband also really liked the morning margarita made with cranberry and pineapple juices and the baklava ice cream. The atmosphere is pleasant in a neighborhood restaurant kind of way, and the service was good.

Yelp
I had high hopes for this place after walking over from the botanic gardens, but it didn't really deliver on food or service. Got the hummus, a chicken wrap, and a gyro. The hummus was sad cafeteria hummus -- seemingly no oil or tahini, and definitely not what you would expect from a Greek restaurant (note to self: I should have read the other Yelp reviews more closely!). We asked for soup with the wrap and got fries instead. The wrap and the gyro were both pretty salty. I would have given 3 or 3.5 stars, but when paying the bill, they miscalculated the tip (the amount that says it was 20% was actually 25%). I noticed a second too late, but called the next day to tell them. They said they would adjust it but didn't. It felt kind of scammy.

Patrick M.

Yelp
Service was great! The grilled cheese and smothered fries was cardboard and mush. How can you screw up a grilled cheese. Unbelievable!

Yelp
Excellent Food. Best soup I have ever eaten. Lemon chicken. Service was top notch. Love this place.

Yelp
Legit! Reminds me of being back in Chicago. The gyro meat was on point. We went in for "brunch" on a Sunday, just 2 of us. We only had to wait about 5 mintues or so but the place was packed! Good for them. I would love to go back for dinner. We had the gryo sandwhich and the whole hog breakfast sammy. Both were amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Great lil breakfast spot. All the traditional faves with some fantastic Greek ad ins! Street parking so be patient!

Yelp
Wow!!! The food was excellent and portions were good sized. Best pancakes I've ever eaten. Service was outstanding as well and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
So the saying that goes '3rd time is a charm' did not apply to our experience at CZC! For a Friday at 5pm it was a perfect time to be sat right away and only 3 tables occupied! Great start right? And then it ends as far as a great starts goes! We received our drinks and waited 10 mins for the waiter to return, place our appetizer order and then we waited, and waited and waited! When we did get our appetizer we also got our dinner salad that was wrong and waited another 5 mins and advised of the issue! Before we got our salad back we had our dinner served! So now we have appetizer, dinner and salad all at one time....needless to say we had to send our dinner back to keep warm, while we ate our appetizer and salad. Sadly, we brought our dinner home in a to go box! There were 5+ servers so wasn't a matter of short staff maybe a case of staging or caring...not sure but we won't be back to find out..

Yelp
This place has great food and a nice indoor and outdoor seating area. They have breakfast, lunch and dinner and a big menu. I ordered the falafel sandwich and it was absolutely delicious. It took a while for it to come out of the kitchen but it was fresh and very tasty. The service was great and the personnel was very friendly.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
Solid neighborhood diner with an emphasis on Greek food. We've been here a few times, getting both breakfast and dinner food and have always been pleased with it. Service is friendly and portions are generous.

Yelp
Zorbas is amazing every time we dine in. The food is great ( try the pancakes!) and the servers are always attentive. The managers are welcoming and remember you when you return! Everything on the menu is delicious!

Brooke K.

Yelp
Excellent service, delightful food and welcoming atmosphere. You can't ask for a better neighborhood diner than this one.

Luke N.

Yelp
I've been going to Zorbas for 15 years and it's never once let me down. I would go here everyday for the service, food, and lovely neighborhood ambiance if I still lived in the area.

Katie K.

Yelp
Zorba's menu is quite varied. The service is always prompt. The servers are very accommodating about separate checks. The portions are large.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
Zorba's is such an incredible neighborhood diner. The food is all incredibly good, the portions are perfect and the prices cannot be beat. The dessert counter is where the magic is really up leveled. You absolutely have to take a minimum of two desserts home. I have never been disappointed with any Zorba's experience. Huge shoutout to Zelda as well for just being the most wonderful human being and enjoyable person to converse with! Zorba's is lucky to have you.

Dorothy H.

Yelp
I have been to Zorbas three or four times now when visiting friends in Congress Park. The menu is quite extensive, not just Greek food. I had the eggs benedict for breakfast, excellent. And for dinner the gyro platter, lots of meat. The sides list is quite large so one can find a side one likes (instead of having two or three choices.) The food is fresh and plentiful, I took half my dinner home with me. One is greeted at the door and the service is really good, with lots of coffee refills. The neighborhood is nice and there is parking out front and in the back of the restaurant. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
Great Food & Service!! The food is so good here! The servers are very nice and hard-working. I'm not crazy about the tzatziki sauce though.

Saraya M.

Yelp
This place is so cozy and awesome. It is extremely clean and well maintained, and has a beautiful blue and yellow color scheme. We ordered the Rueben and the Village Unusual Skillet and they were both delicious, though I think the skillet was the best. We've had the Gyro sandwich before and it is consistently amazing also. Topped it off with the chocolate cake which was similarly bussin. Our waiter this most recent time was incredibly attentive, kind, and had scholar-level knowledge of Legend of Zelda lore. 1000/10
