Seattle Ethopian Restaurant Chef Cafe Has Quietly Closed | Eater Seattle

"Opened in 2009 by married couple Yihdego Gidey and Gburemical Tsehyesh, Chef Cafe built its business the old-fashioned way — through friendly service, great food and huge portions — becoming a homespun spot with plenty of regulars in the surrounding Central District. Because it had no website or Instagram and even a name that was hard to Google, its permanent closure on November 30 went largely unreported; the owners say the restaurant fell into financial difficulties during the pandemic lockdowns, never fully rebounded, accumulated too much debt amid rising expenses and inflation, and ultimately had to close. The old sign is gone, though a graffiti-style mural on the side of the building now serves as a kind of memorial, and a window sign indicates Maheder Cafe will be taking over the space." - Harry Cheadle

Located in a medical building. Not busy mid-morning. Friendly staff with made to order breakfast. The bacon breakfast burritos and salads are good with homemade chips on the side.

Excellent cafe in the Torrey Pines Science Park. Food is cooked fresh to order, except for the daily Hot Entree Specials. f you're coming here during your lunch, don't forget to text your order ahead of time, as It can take a bit for the order to be made because it's fresh! The daily specials are ready by 11:00 am, and are always great! They aren't cooked to order, though. I'd recommend the breakfast croissant with tomato and mustard, an excellent combination that gets your day started right! The flatbread pizzas are great as well! The pizza dough is stretched and baked when you order it, so expect to wait 20 minutes for the pizza. Definitely worth it!

Food was very good and the staffs were so friendly. Didn't know it's the cafe in the hospital and was skeptical when we got there, but ended up with a good meal.

I really wanted to like this place, the staff was very nice, the place was very clean. The food was disgusting. We ordered some french toast and chilaquiles. The french toast looked good, but the entire center of it was soaked with the egg wash. Both orders of french toast just mush. The chilaquiles tasted good, especially with the added cilantro and crumbly Mexican cheese, but it was drowning in salsa verde. This made the tortillas super soft and mushy. The salsa was way too overpowering especially with how limey it was. Needless to say $40 worth of food straight to the trash. I do not recommend this place.

It is in the office building, a little bit hard to find but the food is DELICIOUS! All the people who work there are so friendly. This becomes my no 1 choice when I am around that area for breakfast.

Burritos were great, service was excellent. Short walk from Hilton where we were staying. A little difficult to find location since inside an office, but once there was fine.

Wow! So glad I found this gem! Our breakfast burrito and sandwich were made from scratch and were so delicious. Staff was extremely welcoming. Very short walk from the Hilton at Torrey Pines. Like the other reviews mention, it is in building #5. Highly recommend! We will be back when we are in the area again.
