2024 Is the Year of the Snack | Eater Portland

"Known for nostalgic Mexican-style snacks, Luna Contreras’s Northeast Portland pop-up Chelo has built a reputation for items like gorditas, guacamole, and totopos (she even appeared on the Netflix show Snack vs. Chef). Moving from the Dame restaurant collective into the smaller Lil’ Dame prompted a menu shift toward smaller-format snacks that better fit the space, and Contreras emphasizes keeping many options affordable (under $20) to serve her loyal following of queer people of color." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Friendly staff with a nice selection of freshly baked pan dulce! Is running errands and saw the bakery, so I stopped looking for pumpkin empanadas. Their baked goods are larger than I've seen at other bakeries. Their pumpkin empanadas are larger with a good balance of pumpkin filling and bread.

My favorite bakery since childhood! 💖 Authentic Mexican sweet bread, that is well baked and reminds me of my childhood years everytime I take a bite of it 😋 it honestly feels that it has been made with lots of care and love. The People are very welcoming and friendly. This is the only bakery my family has been loyal to ever since I could remember since their bread is unbelievably delicious!

The smell from outside is amazing. The bread is large compared to other bakeries but I was disappointed. The bread I bought was hard and old. I was charged 16$ for 6 breads which I thought was expensive especially for old bread.

Nice spot for homemade breads and tamales. The pieces are larger than in other bakeries. They also have a couple of tables in case you want to enjoy your food out there.

I first started shopping at this bakery after suggested by my girlfriend's family. She grew up in Westminster, with her mom having bought from this bakery for years. They recently upgraded their cash register (used to be an antique register, cash only) but now they take credit/debit as well. Long gone are those days of cash or find an atm. This bread is great, and much, much better in quality than the pan dulce from the large chain stores. Try the puerquito!
