Westchester Restaurant La Crémaillère Owner Arrested for Fraud - Eater NY

"Michelin-starred Le Grill — the slightly more casual and affordable restaurant in front of L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Chelsea — closed last week for renovations. It will now be its own standalone restaurant, closed off from the tasting menu space at L’Atelier. New banquettes, lights, and colors will be employed for “a luxurious lounge”-style restaurant, with hopes that the crowd and space will become more “high energy,” a spokesperson says. The menu, from longtime Robuchon protégé chef Christophe Bellanca, will change too, with more small plates that work for sharing. It’s expected to reopen in September." - Serena Dai

Quick seating and good food. I had the Chelsea Pasta which was tasty and filling. You can get Faygo scented candles next door!

I have been here twice, and both times the service has been slow. Waitress was friendly, etc, but the food took a while to come out. I would say we were there for two hours for dinner, and an hour plus for lunch. Kids menu options were typical, aside from the fact they have no milk (which of course was requested right off the bat. Runner up choice was juice boxes). The food was okay. Not spectacular, not bad either...just food. Overall? My mom really likes this place. For me personally, it is a place where I will eat but is not a place I would choose to go, if that makes sense!

We have had several very slow dinner services at this establishment. Tonight we were seated and then waited for over twenty minutes, trying to get the waitstaff's attention to begin the process of ordering our drinks. We left before anyone made it to our side of the dining room. Food is decent. Lunch service has never been an issue. Avoid in the 6-8pm time frame of you are in any hurry whatsoever, or hungry.

Various staff members have been rude on multiple occasions when I called for take out. On more than one occasion a woman barked, "we are having a private party tonight!" and hung up on me. Other nights when they were hosting a private party, my usual request for a burger on the flat iron instead of charbroiled was met with a sharp retort of "no special orders! " Never mind that orders have been wrong many times and the food is overpriced for the quality. There were also several occasions when I came in to pick up and no one was there to greet me. Also, the menu is very limited and the tomato sauce on the lasagna is very bland and acidic tasting. You could have a stoke from the amount of salt on the french dip. Finally, one day I was informed that the owner would no longer allow raspberry vinaigrette dressing on anything but one type of salad. After that I had no more reason to do business with them. The only reason I came back so many times is because some of the food actually tastes good.

Google
It consistently delivers better than expected. Excellent salads, and most everything else. I like the music they have. It's not horribly loud like the other "grill" in town. Consistently friendly and personable wait staff. My "go to" for a decent calm meal in Chelsea.

Google
Food is excellent and the servers are very attentive. Service is usually quick. We are always seated right away. Usually about 45 minutes to an hour from entering to leaving. I don't think I have ever seen it extremely busy. We generally go here a few times a month for lunch/dinner on the weekends. Will continue to do so. Unsure of the other reviews saying people are rude or food is cold. We have went here at least a dozen times and never seen anything of the sort.

Google
I don't know why everyone says this place is expensive, IT'S NOT! Me and my husband came here for a quick lunch, and happy hour is until 7pm. We sat at the bar and We had the Supreme Veggie and it was AMAZING! Portions are great! Our bartender was cassandra and she was super friendly. This place is a Gem.

Google
We went to this restaurant yesterday. We stood at the front for over 5 minutes, waiting to be seated. We were ignored, so we thought that maybe we are supposed to seat ourselves. So we did. A server came by and asked if we would want to sit at a different table, since there were 5 of us, but we told her we were fine. Everything seemed okay at this point. Then we waited, and waited. Finally an older employee came over to us, and said she was sorry but they couldn't serve us. Her reason was, they had a large top and not enough help. Then she said: That's why we didn't seat you! We were shocked and could not believe the rude treatment we and some other guests at a table nearby were given. My question is, then why did they not let any guests know when they entered the restaurant, that they are temporarily closed????? No, instead, they ignore you and then act like it's your fault. I have never been treated in such a rude manner at a restaurant. Totally unprofessional and extremely rude. Never again will we even consider the Chelsea Grille again, and we will certainly let our friends and family know about our horrible experience here.

Yelp
I came to Valiant Bar & Grill for lunch after exploring the Finders Keepers Vintage Market that was in Chelsea this past weekend. We were looking for a close and convenient spot to grab lunch before making the trip home. It ended up being a great spot. We walked in around 12:30 on a Saturday and were seated right away. The menu is full of typical bar & grill food, but had plenty of options to choose from. I went with the chef salad, which was great! It's not often that a salad truly fills me up, but it had the perfect ratio of lettuce and toppings, and everything was fresh. My only complaint is that it took a little while to get the bill after we were done eating, but that's not the biggest deal in the world. I'm not in the area much, but I'd recommend coming here for a quick and easy lunch

Lori C.

Yelp
Nice place. Not busy when we were there. Food was good. Sports motif. Would go there again.

Lisa K.

Yelp
Loved the Greek specialties, very good service and fun sports memorialbilia. Large restaurant with an incredibly large menu of diverse food

Josh K.

Yelp
I've been here 20-30 times. And mind you the frequency does not equal my enjoyment. I unfortunately live very close to this establishment so it's an easy choice at times. Everytime I go it's dead silent. No music playing. Very awkward. Not sure what the issue is with the wait staff but I've never had a friendly server. They always seem fed up with me from the minute I sit down. If this place is going to be anything but a local shithole they should consider getting some better tv's and better staff and maybe playing some music or tv so it does not seem like I'm at a fucking wake while I watch SNF. Be better or go broke -local customer care

Irene L.

Yelp
I'm surprised by the low rating for this restaurant. Four of us had dinner on a busy Saturday night (the night of the Christmas parade). Three of us had excellent Greek entrees and the fourth had a seafood pasta that was very good. The lemon rice soup is the best I've ever had. Our server was a charming young lady and the service was fast and efficient. My only negative comment is the ambiance is "diner-like". I would suggest dimming the lights in the bar side of the restaurant.

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Prices are fair to a little pricey. Just ok. Would consider again.

Yelp
Typical sports bar so the atmosphere is exactly what you would picture in your head. They have tables outside you can sit at during warm weather, which is nice, but they awkwardly face a parking lot. I had the fish and chips and they were good. Definitely upgrade your chips to the waffle fries if you order this.
google avatar

Jeremy P.

Yelp
It was okay. The French dip was wasn't my favorite. It tasted kind of bland. And I've definitely had better. The atmosphere was great and the service was good too, especially with us being a huge hockey team and parents. Our two waitresses did a great job. I did hear the grilled cheese was phenomenal from another parent.

Isabella W.

Yelp
Bad service and didn't post times well. Disappointed, because I was very hungry coming in. Looks like a good menu but couldn't try :(

Shelly N.

Yelp
stars Don't order the $9 grilled cheese. Literally toast with a kraft single stuck in between. They got 2 stars because it was at least texas toast. Awful. And, not typical for them but the chili was so burnt I couldn't eat it. Did they not taste it or don't they care???

Barb K.

Yelp
Food was mediocre. Looks like it might be fun for happy hour. Service was good. Ruben

Carla T.

Yelp
Generally a decent place, good food, awesome service. However I regret going there tonight and will think twice before I go back. A very loud, very drunk and very foul woman was allowed to stay in the dining area. Management clearly knew she was causing a scene but allowed her group to remain and continue ordering rounds of shots and drinks. It was disturbing to all if the patrons in the room. I do not want to listen to someone yelling f bombs while I am trying to have dinner. Management needs to do better.

Jason E.

Yelp
ordered a hoagie and it was delivered wrong. server had another one made for me and it came out wrong on the second try too. gave up and paid for the rest of our meal and left. service was very slow (at least the server was kind)

Yelp
Opened today!!! We saw the sign followed its light to our salvation from hunger. Husband required a burger and it was late on a Monday night. Just wrapped up an exam and everywhere else was closed. Word was out because the bar area was packed. Nice big dining room for groups or families, but the big bar greets you just inside the front doors. Big screen TVs are on every wall, so there isn't a bad seat in the house. The bar is well stocked, reasonable prices and huge selections. The food menu is even bigger! Mediterranean, Italian, American, sandwiches and pizzas. Even breakfast! Hubs got his burger. I had a tossed salad, and grape leaves appetizer. The salad was nice, fresh and good size. The grape leaves were good but over salted. House wine is a healthy pour, good offering for the value. It's opening day and there was a hiccup but the staff addressed it properly and we are happy for the new open-late bar and grill that offers more than pizza past 9pm. We'll definitely be back. Welcome to the neighborhood, Valiant!

Chris N.

Yelp
Great place, great food, great service. Just had a large family event there. Owner & Staff very helpful and accommodating. Pizza's were tasty!!! Excellent & friendly service from Lauren!! Highly recommend. Would do that again without question.

Josh T.

Yelp
The food is amazing, online ordering is a breeze and Customer service is Outstanding!! This was the first of many meals at the Valiant.

Donna R.

Yelp
Coke didn't taste right. Food was ok but not great by any means. Service was alright. Bill was kinda high for 2 burgers, 2 fries and two cokes was about $50.
google avatar

Yelp
Went to the V tonight with my boyfriend and omg. This salad. Let's take a moment to appreciate and also, my phone camera and photography does not do it justice you guys. The Mediterranean salad was everything I ever wanted in a salad and I really was not expecting it as my bf said "let's get bar food tonight"! great staff, everyone wore masks and it felt super safe and clean. They also give Andes mints with the check and you know we love to see it!
google avatar

Kat D.

Yelp
A lot of people talked up Valiant to me and how great their burgers, kabobs, and fajitas were. Their kabobs and fajitas were very Americanized and disappointing to me. They have a massive amount of food options on the menu, so it's ideal as a place to get food from if the group can't decide on a restaurant: it's got everything from hoagies, salmon, and stuffed grape leaves to fish tacos, pizza and BBQ ribs. Everything tasted slightly generic to me, which I guess should be expected for a sports bar and grill with such a huge menu. The restaurant seems nice and clean with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating (with heat lamps), but I've only gotten takeout from there so far. I have ordered food for pickup 3 times from Valiant and they always seem to forget to put something in the bag. They gave me a gift card once as an apology for having to drive all the way back to get my son's food. The staff was nice about it, but it's s point of frustration.

Cliff L.

Yelp
I had high hopes given the new owner knows the restaurant business and Chelsea could use fresh perspectives. It was... ok. I had the cod special and the Greek sausage appetizer. The Greek sausage is good. It's basically a Eckrinch link with some Greek seasoning done on the grill. I was surprised at it, but that turned out to be OK. The cod was a Sysco product obviously served not very crispy with a canned aioli on top. The rice and broccoli were obviously microwaved half to death. For some reason there was an ounce of overtly sweet marinara splashed on the plate as well. The food wasn't offensively bad, it just wasn't very good. Service was quick enough, but awkward. Weird, given no one was in the restaurant when we were there.

J J.

Yelp
My opinion is falling. I see this in the restrooms and I have to wonder wtf, at the least, the person responsible for cleaning the bathroom is doing with the rest of their job. This has been on the wall and multiplying for a couple weeks now, so it's a present from either a regular or an employee. So wins all the way around!!!

Yelp
It's not hard to be better than Chelsea Grille, but I'm pleased with this new addition to Chelsea. Fun sport-bally atmosphere, I guess. Food was pretty good. Server was a high school student, but lots of check-ins from the manager. Mostly this place is getting 5 stars because it's not Chelsea Grille.
google avatar

Dan R.

Yelp
Unsatisfactory, everything was overcooked, and not fresh. Second time trying this place will not be back.

Yelp
Driven by Valiant Bar weekly for a year. Hunger was calling and so I placed an order by calling in, and he brought it our curbside with a smile too. I ordered a Ruben for my daughter and a French Dip I haven't had one in years and it was great, So glad Hunger called, I will be back
google avatar

Gale M.

Yelp
My husband, mother and I came to lunch. They both ordered lunches. I ordered ice tea. I am on a medical weight loss diet through St. Joe's. I have special entrees to eat. I asked them to microwave my food so I could eat with my family. The Standard, Classic Cup, and the Carlisle have all graciously assisted me. This establishment adamantly refused. I have a letter from St. Joe's asking food establishments to please honor this request. My family wanted to leave. I told them not to. But we will never be returning!
google avatar

Katie S.

Yelp
This was my fourth visit to Valiant restaurant. First time made a great impression! Server was excellent and food was good. Only one issue on our first visit...my daughters french fries were cold...easily remedied! Next three visits however, there was a large drop in service. Very slow on delivering food, appetizers came out at the same time as dinner, two of our four meals were missing sides, check was wrong on our last visit as well. Food is good for the most part, but service staff really need some training.

Natalie E.

Yelp
There food is pretty good I've only been their with a big group but it does take a little while for food to get to us. The food is kinda pricey since it gives a little bit of a Coney Island vibe. Would recommend trying.

Saudia S.

Yelp
Four stars for now. Food was good, we ordered basic menu items. French dip is great. Nice and salty, good portion, I ordered French fries instead... yum!! Hubby ordered chicken medley soup which was really good!! And a tossed salad, which was not just iceberg lettuce- lots of veg. Little guy had a quesadilla. We ordered cheese only, and all the toppings came on the side. That was tough to get a giant heap of jalapeños on a kids plate, but we worked through it. Service was tough, but adequate. Ambiance was good- all the TVs are muted and there is music playing. It wasn't too much Loud Sports, which I really appreciated. Overall, a good start for the new venue. We'll be coming back!!
google avatar

M W.

Yelp
Mediocre and overpriced. Hubby had ham sandwich which had way too much mustard on it. I had chicken and waffle. 10 dollars. 3 very small chicken tenders... and wait for it... I got charged for dipping sauce for them.
google avatar

Guy P.

Yelp
Awesome sports bar! Burgers were excellent. Staff was friendly and fast. Can't wait to come back.
google avatar

Wendy F.

Yelp
Thursday night 8 p.m. Service was good, steak fries and wings were good. We did not feel rushed so we were able to sit talk and catch up with no one waiting for our table. The down side was it is a sports bar, when I asked what was on Draft they were out of everything but coors light, Miller light and one other domestic beer. I went for a good beer after work. Will return but hope they have more on tap.
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Great food, prices, atmosphere and staff!, Perry knows the restaurant business and this is a welcome change to the area. Well done PP!!
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Good service, great food, nice selection of drinks, and many large screen TVs. What more could you want in a sports bar?
google avatar

Greg U.

Yelp
Had drinks and some appetizers last night and went to see this new restaurant, great service and fun atmosphere. They brought the rap around bar back making the bar engaging again. Lots of space and the owner was visible greeting all the guests which in my opinion makes eating out a more memorable experience. They are now carrying top shelf drinks which many of the Chelsea restaurants do not. Good job all around and we will be back for sure.
google avatar

Jennifer T.

Yelp
Don't expect much I have been here twice. The first time was for drinks. Some of our party ordered meals and they just didn't look so good compared to the price on the menu. Second visit, I ordered several appetizers with friends and I was hugely disappointed in the quality of food. First of all, the "sampler basket" had all boxed, frozen items. Not one sampler appeared to be made in house. the onion rings were burnt, two jalapeño poppers were tiny and fried together, three mozzarella sticks over cooked and 3 chicken tenders that I did not even try. The flaming cheese was burnt and not anything like a Greek restaurant would serve. The Mediterranean platter was plenty full but it was pretty obvious none of the items were made in house. Now, as for beer, not a very large variety considering all the competition in the area. The prices for bottled beer were a tad high and on a weekday night there was not even a happy hour. For the high price on the food and drink you would expect much more that the quality they are dishing out. I would steer clear of this place and head to another local place in downtown Chelsea. We will not be going back.

Ashley F.

Yelp
Food is decent, there are a lot of items that differ from other Chelsea eateries, so its exciting at first. But that's about the only positive. Prices-Steep. You can go to B52 and get much better quality food and bigger portions for the same price. Atmosphere-Weird. The back room is reminiscent of an applebees, and the front room reminds me of an old folks home cafeteria. Too many tables in a wide open area. Service- HORRENDOUS. I thought it was just bad because it was new, but every time we have been in there, our waitress has gone missing for extreme amounts of time. And I have seen other customers get just as visually frustrated at the lack of attention. Oddly, it has never been very busy when I've visited, so I'm not sure where they go? Chelsea needed a fun sports bar, but this place feels like it didn't fully commit to being one.
google avatar

Jessica P.

Yelp
I thought I'd check this place out, so I took my kids and the hostess sat us at a booth. She was nice and have my daughter crayons to color with, but then we sat there for about ten minutes while waitresses walked past us totally ignoring us, so we got up and left. As we were walking out, one of the servers who had ignored us while we were sitting down asked if we needed anything. I told her we needed to order lunch, but couldn't sit there all afternoon so we were going to leave. She said that they were busy, but it didn't look that busy and had someone just acknowledged us and said, "we'll be right with you", then we would've been willing to wait. I guess my service standards are too high.

M K.

Yelp
went for early dinner, it was not busy and there was plenty of staff, could not get water refilled, had chicken pesto linguine, it was served cold. The chicken was dry. the server had to be asked twice to bring a spoon. was ill all night, think it was food poisoning .

Kevin B.

Yelp
Great service, very nice people. The food was not good, except for the cheese sticks. I don't want to write a bad review but maybe this will make the restaurant better. I had fish and chips, fish was like frozen fish from the grocery store. My wife's salad (how can a salad be bad?), it was the hard boiled egg. My wife had one bite and said "something's off" and didn't eat the egg. When she was finished picking through the salad she pushed it away from herself towards the center of the table. I then smelled the egg and gagged, almost vomited. I don't think my wife's nose is functioning correctly. I can't believe she didn't send it back.
google avatar

Rod B.

Yelp
We have been to this place a few times now and always had good food. Service has always been so-so though, But last night we went back for dinner and had a pizza. Now mind you the pizza we had the first time was awesome! But, they changed the sauce and got pretty scimpy on topping and last night the pizza stunk. The sauce was terrible and very little topping. If you go, avoid the pizza and prepare for slow service.

Karen W.

Yelp
Cons: Food was okay, not great, as was the service. Bacon was barely cooked on the bacon cheeseburger and two requested items were left off the burger. When told this, the waitress did get these items quickly. Drink ordered up was not shaken/stirred with ice then strained and was served warm. Bacon fettuccine with grilled chicken was good once cheese, pepper and pepper flakes were added. Table next to us had a messed up order as well. Pros: Great atmosphere, lots of room in which to seat diners, varied menu has potential, manager apologized to the table next to us. We'll give it another try, though.

Loyd P.

Yelp
Very disappointed the owner said U of M players would be hanging out there. I guess he is some kind of booster. Place was empty no players in sight.
google avatar

Gwen S.

Yelp
The food is mediocre at best. So many menu items and none of them stand out. I highly advise against the nachos. The service has been poor/fair all the times we have dined here. Wanted to like this place due to the slim number of restaurants offered in Chelsea.
google avatar

Collin D.

Yelp
They get two stars for being clean and friendly. Food is slow and bland. The fifth star is usually reserve for something outstanding, and this is the fourth time I've visited this establishment (so I feel I've given this place a chance). I'm a Chelsea local, and really want to support local businesses...but only when they hit the mark. Kids got kids meals except for one of them that got a pizza. They charged me $15 for said pizza that was terribly bland (that makes $17.50 for one kid since she got a drink). When there's Thompson's, and Jets for pizza....And, Cleary's pub in town with better kids and adult meals. I got a western burger that was bland. The only good meal were the fish tacos that my wife got but the salsa was terrible and the chips were stale. It's great that you're sweet to my kids by giving them free ice cream, but sorry, I'm not impressed. I'll be taking my money elsewhere.

Mark W.

Yelp
Me and my brother-in law went there last Saturday to watch the NFL playoff game.Nice place, good food and service. Plenty of TV's, but they where playing music instead of having the sound of the game on. I asked if they would turn on the sound of the game. The manager told me that they only that for big games. so I told her that its the NFL playoff game that it is a big game, but she ignored me and walked away. So we finished our diner quickly and left. Not my idea of a sports bar.

Abbey D.

Yelp
I was a bit hesitant to try this place because of the prior reviews. We were pleasantly surprised with our takeout.I decided to get some of the more Greek leaning food. Feisty feta, spinach pie, and lemon rice soup. My husband had a Reuben. Interested in trying more items next time.

Toni O.

Yelp
Been there twice both times order was wrong. I have many friends that went there said they won't be back. Too bad we were hoping to get a good restaurant in Chelsea guess this one isn't it.

Jackie S.

Yelp
The food was just so, so americanized food. The grape leaves lacked the flavors I am familiar with. The lasagna was made with a sweet sausage and could hardly get down the second bite. Probably won't be back .

Michael T.

Yelp
Valiant Bar and Grill is a great place to watch a game and get some food with your friends and family, but is also a great place to go for a night out with friends. Very high quality food with a great wait staff and management. They have a humongous menu with so many options. Love this place
