The 15 Best Vegan & Vegan-Friendly Restaurants In Atlanta

"Chelsea’s Bakery is a mostly takeout Jamaican restaurant on Covington Highway. Regulars walk in and head straight back to the cafeteria-style hot bar, where an attendant knows them well enough to start scooping their favorites with only a nod. Condensation fogs up the plexiglass food shield where there are no labels, so if you’re new here, just ask what items are what. If their plant-based mac and cheese is on the line, consider it a must. And any of their stewed tofus and vegetables are worth a try—rich curries and spicy jerk just do something so spectacular to vegetables, which is why this place is worth it even for avid meat eaters. " - nina reeder, demarco williams, juli horsford

Chelsea Bakery & Vegetarian is a Caribbean delight! This was my first visit, and I’m already looking forward to going back. Located on Covington Highway, this gem offers a mix of flavorful hot meals and a refreshing juice bar. For my meal, I ordered a large takeaway plate that included curried chickpeas, chow mein, and mashed pumpkin. Every bite was delicious—the flavors were rich, the portions generous, and the overall presentation was excellent. You could taste the care put into each dish. While they also had a variety of pastries on display, I skipped them this time (though they looked incredibly fresh and delicate). I did, however, grab a sea moss drink, especially for its health benefits—and it did not disappoint.

Google
This place is awesome! The staff is awesome! My dad took me here one day and I’ve been coming ever since! I eat here maybe 2/3 times a week! They have the BEST vegan mac ever! Ever! The curry is delicious, I always get the same thing so I can’t speak for the other items but the Tarts are sooo flaky and tasty and the drinks are top tier! 10/10

Google
The food was decent, and there was not much of a wait. I grabbed some BBQ tofu, kale, and mac' n cheese. I am not certain that this should have cost $18, though.

Very lovely atmosphere and quality service! Will be coming back for some more delicious plant based meals!

Google
The food looked good but I never tried it. walked in for the first time today and the lady working up front seemed uninterested in answering my questions about the options they had available. Why get an attitude about answering questions and try to rush me to order like it’s not apart of your job to be helpful. I do not recommend coming here if customer service is important to you.

Google
The absolute worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. My husband and I Came to meet our grandmother for dinner. Yes, it was 30 minutes before closing. However, as a small business myself, I appreciate EVERY customer who is interested in spending their hard earned money. The young lady behind the counter didn’t speak only until we got to the hot plate area. All she expressed is that what they have is on the table and they close in 30min. I honestly just wanted an explanation of the cultural food I planned on experiencing. Needless to say, I did not eat here and anybody who expects great customer service shouldn’t either.

I’m vegan again! My body just better appreciates the food choices. That said, it’s hard out here for a V. My area has absolutely NO vegan restaurants, and I have to drive 35-40 minutes for one. The drive here definitely proved worthwhile. Upon entering, I explained that it was my first time and was welcomed and thanked with a smile. I ordered two 3-item plates just to try a few dishes. On one, I had BBQ tofu, kale, and rice and peas. Everything was delicious, and I love saucy “meat.” On the other plate I had cabbage, curry tofu and pumpkin. Loved the flavors for the most part, but the pumpkin would have to grow on me. I guess I’m more accustomed to the flavor of sweet potato. The servings are HUGE, and I ate leftovers for two days, which were still delicious after it was reheated. Thanks for accommodating my dietary needs and making this journey a little easier. Will definitely return.

Google
I came for the okra but found a hair in there! For 3 vegetables the plate was $19!!! So pissed!

Yelp
Had to stop at my favorite vegetarian/vegan restaurant in Atlanta Chelsea's Bakery I had a large plate with rice & red beans, kale, & bbq tofu. Popcorn- their popcorn is spicy & so good. Butter flaps - I love this so soft & yummy. So excited that I devoured my plate before I took any pictures. I love this place, I will be back for some bread to take back with me to Phoenix.

Yelp
I'm never coming back here again.. Prices have skyrocketed to $20 a plate and the service is RUDE. Last time I came here the large plate was $10, now for the exact same identical plate it's $20 dollars?????? The place used to be full of happy cust now it's empty. They have ZERO customer appreciation, it almost seems like they hate their customers.. I'm taking my entire family of 4 somewhere else where our business is appreciated and the prices match the service.

Yelp
AMAZING! Everything I've tried is always really delicious. I've been here many times and the food is consistently good. I typically get the large plate that comes with 3 items. I would love if they have the option for 4, but that's just me being greedy!! Lol But I make it up by getting a potato samosa, a lentil samosa and a chickpea patty. Please get all the things!! You'll thank me later!

Yelp
I stopped in today after not visiting for a very long time and I now remember why I stopped coming. Used to come here all of the time back in 2020-2021 but since then, their prices have skyrocketed! The quality and service has diminished as well! This is NOT a $10 plate!! It's sad to say, Chelsea's will not get another dollar from me. If I ever do come back, it will be for the juices and the juices only.

Yelp
I've been to Chelsea's Bakery twice. These pics are from the first visit. They have premade buffet style food, you get to choose between 2-4 items depending on price. Our food was well worth the $20 for 4 items and they added in the plantains for free! The bbq tofu was delicious and the rice & peas too. If you're looking for a Caribbean vegan spot this is it. They have a small dining area but we took ours to go. They also sell juices but I did not try those. Servers were friendly, I will definitely be back.

Yelp
Visited this restaurant late one Sunday afternoon. The food, served cafeteria-style, seemed to have been warming for awhile. Some of the food didn't look like ordinary dishes so I asked the server what her favorite was. She stated she "didn't eat this stuff". My husband and I proceeded to try a variety of items. We tasted the vegan lasagna, rice and beans, cabbage with veggies, macaroni with veggies and there were several soy meat versions --barbecue, curry, etc. I think we had the curry. Most of the food was bland, not much to talk about.

Yelp
First time stopping in at Chelsea's for pastries. Restaurant is small, has cafeteria-style setup for their hot food & pastries are in glass display wrapped on pans. The hot food looked fresh and tasty, they do not offer samples. Weird thing about this restaurant, I did not see any menus or QR codes. I had to ask the woman who working how much everything was, I'd rather just get that info from a menu. I asked the price of the pastries, the lady told me they were all the same price but when she rang it up the price was different (came out cheaper so I didn't complain). I got a guava pastry $3 & a pineapple pastry $2.25. The guava crust was unfortunately dry & didn't have the amount of filling that I prefer. It most definitely was not made that day either. The pineapple pastry was better, crust to filling ratio was good, filling was tasty. I actually would come back to try their hot food but I would get my pastries elsewhere.

Yelp
I was in the area for Fingerprinting & saw that I was pretty close to Chelsea's that I bookmarked ions ago. I like the concept of a buffet-style food, yet everything seemed to be heavily seasoned with Curry this & that. I got the BBQ Tofu & after a few bites, I was done. The Noodles reminded me of Rice a Roni, not a homemade Noodle dish & did nothing for me, same with the over charred Brussels Sprouts. I did eat all of the Mac & Cheese, yet it had a little too much Saffron or Curry as well. For a Bakery, the display case was limited & the Banana Bread was hard as a rock. 3rd star for the drinks, smoothies & Sea Moss. Service was rushed with the employee not really offering suggestions or guidance. I won't return.

Yelp
Great food .amazing juices and fast service. What more could you ask for? I wish they had more locations

Yelp
As a public service Vegetarian doesn't always translate to "gluten-free" so be aware FYI on that piece, I came here with high expectations of finding a new veggie place to visit. When we got here we were hit with the strongest smell of weed I've smelled in a long time, some of the vegetables tasted like canned stuff and at these prices, I'm expecting fresh. While I can agree that they do provide generous portions. Just because you get more crap doesn't always translate to a good thing. This coupled with the bad attitude of the staff does not make this place a winner. Avoid if you can.

Yelp
Best food I've had in Atlanta except for Desta. Ethiopian! My favorites were the cabbage, kale & chickpeas there's lasagna and black-eyed peas were delicious but they were a bit too sweet for my taste buds. I wasn't a huge fan of the lo mein but it's still good. I also got a slice of the vegan carrot walnut cake that was yummy but way too sweet for my taste buds. Disclaimer I rarely eat sweets and avoid processed sugar most of the time so my taste buds are probably different than the standard taste bud which is why I'm still getting this place 5/5 stars. I also avoid fake meat usually but I did try a slice of lasagna that was very tasty.

Yelp
Just stop by for the Mac n cheese and soy fish. Very tasty. Very clean. Helpful workers

Yelp
The food has always been delicious; and a sign of the times it's $16 for 3 items and when I first ate here, $11, then $13; and portion sizes have gotten smaller. It a treat for me; I go 2-3 times a year now.
google avatar

Antwynette R.

Yelp
I came through the week before the lunch crowd and was the only one in the establishment. So service wasn't a problem for me as I've seen other reviewers complain about. There were lots of menu items I wanted to try that they didn't have such as the chickpeas and the curry. I opted for the okra, kale, sweet and sour, and brussels sprouts. Everything was really good. The kale was probably my least favorite because it lacked flavor. Also, it tasted a bit gritty which tells me they were not cleaned well. I ended up throwing most of it out. Otherwise this would be a four-star establishment. The prices also have gone up a bit, I spent a little over $18 for a three item plate and one side dish....somewhat steep for a takeout establishment.
google avatar

Yelp
Really yummy vegetarian/vegan food! And the portion sizes are amazing for the price. I got the large plate and a soy patty and spent about $11-12 dollars (including tax). The flavors were amazing, but I think next I'll get the lasagna instead of the BBQ ribs. The flavor was amazing and the soy ribs were well prepared, but the lasagna looked amazing lol. When you enter, there's a hot food line and a bakery display (as well as some handmade vegan juices and a few classic Caribbean sodas). The employees move pretty quickly, so as long as there isn't a long line, you should be in and out in less than 10 minutes. Amazing food, and helpful service. I'll definitely be returning!

Yelp
VEGAN REVIEW: Chelsea's Bakery is a vegan eatery and bakery nestled among other storefronts on the side of Covington Dr. It looks very much like a mom & pop kind of eatery. There are about 4 tables where diners can enjoy their meal, but it seems that most people order take-out. The atmosphere wasn't really conducive to eating in, but if you do decide to eat in, you can order and eat and then pay after your meal. There are 2 sizing options for food. I can't quite remember the pricing for the the 2-item deal, but the 3-item deal was $10 and that's the option I went with. I knew I wanted the mac & cheese and the kale, but I couldn't decide between all their proteins (specifically the curry chick'n and the BBQ tofu). I asked the man helping me what he would recommend and he said it was dependent on how he felt that day. He then proceeded to give me samples of ALL of their proteins! While they were all good and I do love me some BBQ sauce, I went with the curry chick'n. I loved the curry chick'n - it was very flavorful and hearty. The mac & cheese was good, but definitely an indulgence. The kale wasn't seasoned enough, and I was left wishing there was a salt shaker nearby. Overall, I would recommend Chelsea's to vegans and vegetarians looking for some hearty vegan eats. The food was pretty good and the service was great. Don't forget to ask for samples if you're trying to decide among the many options here.

Yelp
The Mac n Cheese is banging has a hint of a turmeric or curry flavor. I ordered the okra, mushrooms, and busses sprouts. Large servings it is worth trying.

Yelp
I've been waiting months to try this vegan Jamaican food and I was not disappointed. The portions were large, the staff members were hilarious and friendly, and the restaurant was clean! I got the kale greens, Mac n cheese, and yucca... and also a cabbage patty and red velvet cake. It all came up to about $17 which isn't bad at all considering I had enough food to last me two days. You can tell they get a lot of regulars because they knew people by their names and I even received recommendations from other patrons. I will definitely be back. Oh! They also have the most delicious Sorrel and sea moss drinks! Don't sleep on this place because you will not be able to find vegan Jamaican food any where else! Next time I will be trying the pea soup, dumplings, and bbq tofu.... and the German chocolate cake!

Yelp
One my favorite vegan restaurants in Atlanta. If you try this spot, get there early cause the do sellout of some popular items. I always end getting the okra. The prices have went up over year, but the food is still amazing.

Yelp
This restaurant is understated in appearance located in a small strip mall on Covington Highway. The shared parking is decent depending on the time of day you get there. Here's how it works. You select a small or large "dinner". Small is two items and large is three items. The small is $8.50 and I think the large is about $11. Portions size is great, so even if you get two items the average person will be full. The usual men has lasagne, Mac n Cheese, BBQ tofu, curried chunks, vegetable medley, sautéed kale, cabbage, beans, chickpeas, etc. they have a beverage cooler with a large variety of fresh juices and bottled drinks. It's best to get your drink from the cooler then go on the line to make your order. They also make fresh smoothies to order. Most people take their orders to go, but there's a few tables are available for "dine in". I see a few reviews indicating that customer service is not the best, but I've never had any issues. The owners and staff are professional and friendly enough. The facility is clean, although the decor is not a posh.. it has a homey feeling. One of my favorite places to get a quick meal.

Yelp
Traveling to Atlanta for a trip .Stopped in the taste the food. Front counter cashier definitely had a attitude. No clear menu for people to look at . Asked for a small portion of okra and lo me in . Definitely not worth it and paid over 9 dollars. wasn't worth it . Would not recommend .

Yelp
CUSTOMER SERVICE - CUSTOMER SERVICE - CUSTOMER SERVICE - CUSTOMER SERVICE... The customer service here is not good. Its been years since I've been here. I buy vegan food from restaurants & vegan places like Sevanada almost daily or 4x a week. This place a long standing business, which is great and yet surprising. There are too many restaurants with great customer service to spend your hard earned dollor somewhere where they can't even put labels on there food nor even explain wtheck it is like I'm never returning. The food was ok lol... But too many other places of quality, smiles & good vibes. Pros: They make fresh juices, I'm happy that this area has a place that offers vegan food (I don't live here but I frequent the area) they also have variety (though the food is unlabeled & any other place you'd feel comfortable to ask for a sample if you never tried it)... Note to the business owners: If your no longer happy running the business just hire some really nice front of house staff, remarket and brand perhaps buy some street signs and promote your juices (ppl love AFFORDABLE fresh juice & smoothies trust me I make and have a weekly stipend for it)... It will help you pay for the nice employee that smiles. I've forgotten how stale customer service can be... I walk into any business... Qt, moes, chipotle, vi va la vegan, anyother biz and the greetings are loud and clear. By the time I order I damn near just give them my money by adding on extras. I felt so awkward here that i didn't even want to add on the pastry I looked at and I didn't... The customer before me did the same thing. Gosh the vibe.

Yelp
Sea Moss drink, guava tart, lentil samosa, and vegan lasagna for $16?! YES, PLEASE!!! The sea moss drink was a little chunky for my taste, but the tart and samosa made my eyes roll back. The lasagna is in the fridge, waiting to be devoured. Such a beautiful hidden gem on the east side. Will be visiting again. NOTE: Typical culture. Short tempered staff, understaffed. Breathe and get your food. It's worth it.

Monique' M.

Yelp
I've eaten here a number of times for a number of years now. The food is consistently hot and tasty. Some items have disappeared from the menu and some items are not replaced once depleted during the day. I will say the the restaurant (savory) food is much tastier to me than their bakery items. Their bakery items aren't as moist and sweet as I would like. I have never had any of their in-house juices. They are always generous on the serving size (especially close to closing time). The owner is always friendly and polite. They have a loyal customer in me.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! I was looking for a place that had good food that I could actually eat and didn't mind paying for. I did not want to eat vegan junk food. Chelsea's did not disappoint. I usually skip out on vegan Mac and cheese but theirs is actually really good. Barbecue tofu was also great as was the kale. I will definitely be back any time I am in the area. The red velvet cake was really good as well. I agree with one of the other reviewers who said that it was more like an almond cake but still really good. Oh yeah! Don't forget to try a chickpea patty it is something special. Lol

Janice S.

Yelp
I love this place and the people who work there! I treat myself on social security check day by getting food from there. Not only are the items in the buffet delicious but I love their samosas and their little bottles of ginger beer.
google avatar

Shanya D.

Yelp
I love their peanut punch one of the only reasons I go here. The food doesn't look appealing at all i've tried it a few times but it's not the greatest however if you are vegetarian this is a dope place to try out.
google avatar

Simmone S.

Yelp
My meal had great flavor! I got a large plate that consisted of Mac & cheese, eggplant and soy beef. I was so hungry I tried in in the car. When I tell you I was blown away???? Lol, everything was so good! I even went back in and got an additional plate for my mom that had okra, soy beef & eggplant! Definitely will try the fresh fruit juice next time :)

Yelp
Vegan Review: My wife was attending a birthday brunch for my aunt (females only) at a restaurant in Buckhead so I decided that me and the little guy would drive to Decatur to give Chelsea's a try. It's right off of Covington Hwy. The Mac and cheese was the absolute most delicious Vegan Mac and cheese I have tasted so far. It was as good as my mom's mother-in-law or wife's Southern versions. I got a side to go it was so amazing! I also got the tofu ribs and kale along with a slice of Red Velvet cake. Everything was satisfying and flavorful but the Mac and Cheese was the best! I will be back as this is another great Vegan find in Decatur!
google avatar

Janice S.

Yelp
I go here fairly often because I love their food and the staff is so nice. They have the best samosas too, very tasty and large. I was going to a potluck gathering on Saturday and I ordered ahead 12 potato and 12 lentil samosas. When I went to pick them up they had just taken them out of the dryer so that they would be hot. Everyone loved them and wanted to know where I got them. Thank you, Althea and Donette!

K O.

Yelp
LOve this place!! I pretty much get the same things when I go there. Seamoss drink-it's made with almond milk. Samosas,-they have both lentil and potato. I like the potato better. Mashed pumpkin-has onions and bell peppers in it. So tasty!! And let's not forget the red velvet cake!! It's a gluten free, and free of lots of other things, can't remember it all. But I caught it on a great day!! It was so fresh and moist!!
google avatar

Tri W.

Yelp
After passing by this restaurant a lot due to me living in the area I now believe it was reason I never stopped by to taste their food. I only stopped here one night because I needed something quick and healthy to eat. One of the worse vegan restaurant experience I've ever had. The curry chickpeas were spoiled I couldn't even eat a spoonful because it was sickening. The callaloo was not good;didn't smell fresh or taste the best. Idk if they mixed old food with new food or what but I will not be returning. Water taste better than this food.

Yelp
If you want to go vegan with a Caribbean twist, Chelsea's Bakery is it!!! Now for years, I've been going to this strip mall because there is another Caribbean restaurant (Liz Roti), I go to. I had never noticed Chelsea's sitting on the corner. I was told about the pine tarts, which are pastries stuffed with sweet pineapple filling. They also offer other flavors, like guava, and strawberry along with other types of pastries. My curiosity peaked when I saw people going to the hot food bar ordering from there. From pumpkin, to the okra, cabbage, curry chicken, curry lamb, and mac and cheese, it's all vegetarian!!!! When I tell you the flavors are amazing and you wouldn't miss meat at all!!! My favorite is the okra, which is wonderfully seasoned. Another crowd favorite is the Lo mein but today it wasn't on the bar today. It is good as well. You want go wrong with whatever you get here. Oh yeah, don't forget about the juice bar!
google avatar

Kevin P.

Yelp
Y'all I'm not Vegan or even Vegetarian but this vegetable plate was the bomb and you will get full! I had the cabbage which includes peas, carrots green beans. It's taste Jamaican and is really good. Had the noodles which are lo mein noodles I believe seasoned with red onions, carrots and red peppers. I could have had a meal with this. I'm not a huge fan of kale but this was seasoned perfectly and I'm at least a fan of their kale. I can see sneaking in veggies to your kids and them liking this. I couldn't eat everyting in one setting they gave you your $10.50 worth. Bruh man will definitely be back. It's small shop next to International Roti House off Covington Hwy near Memorial Drive. I'm selling some houses in the hot MeadowbrookAcres neighborhood and was heading for Jamaican good when I saw this. So glad I did!

Brittneh R.

Yelp
They keep impressing me so I had to leave a review! This place is great when you know what you want! For desserts they have pine tarts and omg!!!! Best pastry you'll ever eat. Next, for drinks I recommended the Seammoss and my new favorite the Almond Vanilla Punch. I was so impressed, I really didn't expect for it to be this good seeing that I only purchased it because the Seamoss was out. It's my new favorite! But this the kind of store that every drink you experiment with wounds up being super good. I randomly had the curry veggie plate and I'm not usually a fan of soy but they won me over. It's so hard to find real rich curry ( dont think I found any others actual) so I'll bend the rules for them. Great spot for vegans and all the items are worth a try you'll end up falling in love!
google avatar

Ashlye B.

Yelp
Oh my God this is the best non meat food that I have ever tasted. I will continue now on my journey with being a vegetarian.. I got the Sweet and Sour tofo- tasted like a real tender beef, with pumpkin smash- oh it's was wonderful and spicy. With kale sauteed ... I missed the Mac n cheese because he said it's served on Thursday and Sunday!! I'll be back.
google avatar

Nicola L.

Yelp
Haven't been here in years. This was our family trip, Good Friday stop. So first, I had to be rolled out - not cute!!! The family thoroughly enjoyed themselves. This is a place everyone can appreciate, meat lovers are welcomed. You'll only second guess yourself after. Parking, pay close attention because cars are moving and barely stopping. It's not that bad, but dont talk and drive in this lot. Once in there's a vegan bakery and food station. Two food choices $7.50, three $10. The flavor is over and beyond this earth. If you are weak and timid, like your food bland and cold this is not the place for you. Eating in they serve you with nice cutlery and a wonderful fabric of a napkin. I'm a natural girl at heart so it spoke to my inner Rastafarian. Now, service they have a lot of regulars so don't be bothered that you don't get the warm and fuzzies you just haven't been tried and true yet. Otherwise try everything and go back often.
google avatar

Yelp
Second time coming after some months & got the same attitude. Lol. Got the same dry end pieces of currant roll. I haven't gotten to try the food yet, but the service is not worth me coming back.

Troy A.

Yelp
Omg! Can I tell you this is one of your towns best places to eat vegetarian!! All the food had wonderful flavor. From the lasagna which if I didn't know would of thought it was meat! To the eggplant and Brussels sprouts. All very wonderful on the pallet. Rounded it off with a ginger drink. I will def be back every time I am near! Thank you so much for making it easy to vegetarian!!

Don't miss the magic Several of the negative reviews might have not sampled this restaurant's strengths. Their juices and Jamaican style sea moss drinks are outstanding. Their brown rice and peas and fresh vegetables are delicious. I like their lasagna but it's an acquired taste if a sweet lasagna could scare you off. When they have pumpkin I always go for that. It's savory and perfectly cooked. The prices are not low but they give huge portions so the value is solid. If I knew the word for Bravo in Jamaican.....I would end with that.

Yelp
Excellent bakery with vegan cheese bread a lot more delicious looking breads that I was not able to try this time around. Superior customer service, friendly, welcoming, and informative on all my questions. Wonderful array of vegan options, scrambled tofu, and BBQ vegan dish that I wish I could have every day! Clean and nice covered tables for 4-10 people

Yelp
Good flavorful food. Not too many options as they only make certain things on certain days. Which is sad when you come specifically for Mac n Cheese, but still good food. Many flavors you wouldn't normally get with a full vegan meal. I especially like the BBQ tofu. They also have a good selection of Jamaican sodas. yum! Small restaurant with few tables, definitely a take out type of place.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are visiting from out of town and we found this place through this wonderful app. The place is easy to get to and is very nice and clean. Now let's get to the best part, the food! We got the tofu scramble, the soy mix, porridge, vegetable roti (I love homemade roti), and soursop juice. Every was very tasty and delicious, and it is all vegan food which made me very very happy. The prices are extremely affordable for he quality of food provided. I would definitely come back to try the rest of the food. Come visit them if you live in the area.
