Wow. Best restaurant in San Gabriel for Szechuan. Seriously no joke. One of those few times Jonathan Gold was spot on. Lion fish was incredibly fresh. It takes a bit of time to prepare but the wait is well worth it. It reminds me a lot of fish and chips without the chips and a nice gingery sweet sauce to dip your "fish fries" in. Lovely fishy. It's a large fish. Do not be deceived by the photos. Toothpick lamb was the winner of the evening. Everyone loved it. I don't like cumin but I love it here. It's a perfect spice balance with the cumin. Very savory too. It's hard to stop eating Ice powder dessert doesn't look pretty like some of the Yelp photos but it is refreshing like a cool jello. Tan tan noodles were very good. Excellent spices and just the right amount of spice. It came out piping hot. Beef jerky had a really great spice flavor but too much oil. It's a cold dish but I really wish it was warm. Skip this one.

This place is really good! One of the most authentic Chinese restaurants in greater LA. You can see why theres a line and parking is difficult. After having had authentic numbing Szechuan good in China, this place comes awfully close. My Chinese friend brought me here and I was not disappointed.

It has taken me way too long to finally get to write about Chengdu Taste, especially being a fan of Sichuan flavors. This is authentic sichuan / chengdu style Chinese dishes. We got the toothpick lamb and twice-cooked pork. The lamb was delicious, fatty, and had some spice. It is spicy but flavorful. The food was really good, came with a generous portions, and as oily as you'd expect. This is my third time coming down to LA and visiting this restaurant so it's become a tradition to eat here every time I come to LA. All the food has been good. And the prices are reasonable. There's a small surcharge on rice. But the portions are good.

Tranditional Sichuan taste, not americanlized Chinese food. Probably not suitable for the person who can not eat spicy food.

This place is awesome! I was the only non Chinese in there for dinner. The aroma that hit my nose walking in told me that my mouth was in for a treat. Many authentic Chengdu dishes. They don't have traditional, burner in the center of the table hot pots, but they have managed to make a variety of dishes which evoke similar flavors. Highly recommend the Beef Jerky and the Lamb on toothpicks. Fantastic. Will definitely hit this place again the next time I'm out here.

Jonathan Gold is usually right. I have never disagreed with his taste in food until today. I don't fault him though because at the end of the day he isn't Chinese. He won't know what great Chinese food taste like. Chengdu Taste is a decent restaurant but I would not dub it has THE Chinese restaurant. This tiny restaurant serves super spicy Sichuan food. I really enjoyed the cabbage and the chicken. I was disappointed with the Frog and the fish because of the size of the protein. In both dishes the protein took up 1/4 of the plate/bowl and the rest was covered with spicy peppers and vegetables. Be prepared for a two hour wait no matter the table size. Apparently you can pay $35 for a lady to wait for you.

So far only tried the 'tan tan' noodle. They were delicious! Perfect balance of heat and flavor. The noodles soaked everything up very well, and had great texture. The service was quick, and restaurant appeared clean. Will definitely be returning to try other items.
