Ordered chicken fried rice, specifically stated chicken, egg and onion only. Egg is an up charge that’s fine. Get it home and it has bean sprouts in it. This is the 3rd time I have gotten this same dish this month. Never has had bean sprouts. Won’t be back.

Google
Last time I ordered pickup the man( I’m assuming the owner) was extremely rude and the food seemed thrown together. I ordered around 1:50 and made it to the pickup window around 2:10 and he was visibly annoyed and not at all friendly. I used to frequent this place often but I haven’t been back since that happened.

Google
This place used to be so, soooo good. In the past the spicy mustard and duck sauce were hand made…honestly there was nothing else like it. Now, you guessed it….packets of mustard and duck sauce. Take out only now…the cost cutting shows in quality.

Update your hours! We drove 40 minutes just to arrive to a closed restaurant. Panda Cuisine is 1.4 miles away for anyone else this happens to.

Google
We got carry out and the order was ready quickly. I very much enjoyed the cashew chicken.

Google
I've only tried the eggrolls, but they are much better than Foliage. Best eggrolls in the area IMO

First things first: Cheng’s is a wonderful restaurant with a gig-delivery OR customer pick up model and no seating for diners. We prefer to pick ours up which gives us a couple of minutes to enjoy the fragrances wafting out of their kitchen. The food is well prepared, fresh, and well packaged for the drive home. The counter service is polite and efficient. The parking is easy (they also have a drive-through pick up window). If you go pick up a paper menu to make ordering easier the second time. FYI, the five stars for atmosphere is because the waiting area is comfortable, clean and smells delicious.

Google
We eat here at least three times a month. It's that good. I'm vegetarian, so the vegetable chow mein is SO awesome!! My friends love the general tso chicken, and all the poultry is fresh, big pieces cooked when ordered. It may take a bit of time, never too long for us though. The egg rolls are big and fresh. I highly recommend this place to all my friends.

Yelp
This is the best Chinese restaurant in Lexington. I've gotten to go orders from here several times and they are always ready on time and the food is hot and fresh. Everything is always packed well and actually looks good, even in the takeout containers. You can tell they take pride in every detail. The General Tso's Chicken and Sesame Chicken are my favorite entrees, but I would go here just for the egg rolls. Sorry, no pictures ... I'm always too excited to eat it when I get home that I forget.

Yelp
Best chinese restaurant in Lexington! Amazing food with great portions and quick. The gen tosos and egg rolls are definitely go to.

Yelp
Very good take out spot on Clays Mill. The spring rolls are nice, and try your favorite fried rice.

John O.

Yelp
Food was very good overall ,I walked into the restaurant and only had to wait for 10 mins - I would reccomend and will come back next time I'm in town

Yelp
Okay I did not expect Cheng's to be as good as it was. The reviews mention good and cheap food but I thought, this is way too good to be true. I ordered hot and sour soup, sweet and sour chicken and vegetable fried rice. The hot and sour soup was delicious, with an actual kick to it and tons of different mushrooms. The sweet and sour chicken was perfectly fried with a sauce that tantalized my taste buds. Lastly the veg fried rice. It was SO good. Good plain, good with sweet and sour sauce. All of this for $17 and easily able to be picked up via a drive through? It really cannot be beat. Service was quick at the window. Just of note, they don't take American Express which is more than fine but for those who were planning to use that card! Definitely will go back soon and try other things on the menu!

Yelp
Our favorite Lexington Chinese restaurant. The best egg rolls, hands down, in the area. I wish they had homemade hot mustard but other than that it's pretty close to perfect!

Ben J.

Yelp
Best chineese in lexington. hands down. I wish they could open up the dining room again, because it had a quaint , if well worn, ambiance. I know it's not for everyone, but i liked it. Drive through is fine though. It's very quick, and hot and fresh. I usually go for dinner when i'm running late or don't want to cook so like 6:30/7-ish . Lunch menu was a great deal as well, but since there is no dining room i haven't been since pre-2020 for lunch. Before that it was a regular office lunch spot.

Yelp
I love picking up my Chinese food from this establishment. Every meal I've ordered is so good and fills me up. I always call my order for take-out as I usually get off work when I crave Chinese food. After you put in your order, it only takes 15-20 minutes and is ready for pick-up. You don't have to go into the restaurant to get your order, as they have a drive-thru on the side :) The staffs are friendly and super quick with their job. I love the restaurant's food and service. *thumbs up*

Corey G.

Yelp
Incredibly good Chinese food! Some of the best I've had in Lexington. I got the general Tsos chicken and the egg rolls and was very surprised with how good everything was
google avatar

Jack C.

Yelp
This is my favorite Chinese food restaurant in Lexington. The egg rolls are my personal favorite. The sweet and sour chicken is great and I love the fried rice. Service is always quick and they always have great staff.

Jack L.

Yelp
Carry out and drive through only, but that said, it "travels well." We order this about once or twice a month. Ingredients always fresh, flavors good. Prices quite reasonable. A good answer for dinner or lunch on a busy night. I personally love the Hunan Combination. Big shrimp, beef, chicken with vegetables in a light brown sauce. Good flavors, wholesome meal. The curry is also quite tasty, as is General Tso's.
google avatar

Rebecca W.

Yelp
We ordered Beef Lo Mein and Moo Goo Gai Pan with a couple of egg rolls. Both dishes presented well and tasted fresh but unfortunately the carrots and zucchini in the MGGP were under-cooked and hard. The egg rolls were also disappointing and seemed to be "leftovers" from the lunch menu. Portion sizes were decent and service was quick but I am not sure we will make the trip to try Cheng's again. A side note: we did order right at 4:30pm when they opened so perhaps the woks/kitchen staff weren't quite warmed up enough.

David W.

Yelp
Edit: This is for the Lexington, KY restaraunt. Not sure why Yelp has me in San Francisco. Could have been 'a lot' better. Cheng's is our go-to Chinese, both eat in and delivery. Tonight we ordered three meals for two persons (delivery). It's nice to have left overs. We are sooo disappointed. Here's why.. 1. The spring rolls were cold 2. They sent no hot mustard 3. The rice was cold 4. The fried noodles were stale 5. The Kung Pao Chicken was flavorless Understanding..., this was a delivery, but we have had Chinese delivered from Cheng's and numerous others before without issues. The order to delivery time was under 45 minutes. Plus.., noodles don't get stale during delivery. This was a 'quality' issue. We will probably order from them again, but it might be a while. If we have a similar experience then it will be a one star review and the last time.

Yelp
I had a taste for Chinese food and thought I'd try a new place. I'd never been to Cheng's, so off I went for the lunch special and picked up my selection curbside. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken. Lots of tender chicken, crunchy veggies and peanuts. Chinese food can be overly salty, but this wasn't, so I drizzled a touch of soy sauce on it. An all around good deal. 23

Yelp
We love Chengs. Enough to drive from Versailles to get our take away! The combination platters have lots of food and we've never been dissatisfied.
google avatar

Olivia W.

Yelp
Cheng's is one of the better Chinese restaurants I've been to in Lexington. The food was fresh and prepared quickly for a to-go order. The portions are smaller than what I'm used to from other Chinese restaurants but still plenty for 1 big meal!

Julya M.

Yelp
Tender chicken and flavorful sauces! Very fresh. Ambiance is quiet with no music so I recommend the drive thru
google avatar

Birdie B.

Yelp
THE best and our favorite period. We drive from Harrodsburg if we want Chinese food. They are so kind and prompt too!
google avatar

Pam W.

Yelp
We don't eat inside often (usually take out), but today we did and it was great. The restaurant was pretty busy for lunch and our service and food were great. The crab rangoon (my favorite) was some of the best I have ever had, and my husband's General Tao's chicken and my shrimp and vegetables were both delicious. This is a great lunch (or anytime really) spot. CHENG'S HAS REOPENED!!! We are so glad to see our favorite Chinese restaurant open again after Covid-19 has caused so many disruptions to normal life. If you drive by you will see cars lined up at the takeout window, and the food is just as good as ever, and maybe a little better because we have missed it so much! Grab some lunch or dinner and be sure to support them now that they are back.
google avatar

Xavier M.

Yelp
They had a nice worker and they were quick on our order and the food was good I hope they keep up the good work I will definitely will be ordering from Cheng's again soon
google avatar

Mackenzie M.

Yelp
This may not necessarily be the go to restaurant for me when it comes to Chinese food, but overall their food is relatively good quality, and we have never had an issue with the service we've received there. We've only ever ordered to go, so I'm not sure how everything is within the restaurant itself.
google avatar

Will G.

Yelp
Much better than the other fast serve Chinese restaurants in the area. My 5 star rating is for the food taste and portions in comparison to similar restaurants.
google avatar

Liana B.

Yelp
Your go to for fast, good, Covid friendly Chinese food. They have a pick up drive thru window so you don't even have to leave your car! Reasonable prices and fresh food too. I ordered the garlic chicken, shrimp dumplings and wonton soup. I am a big wonton soup fan and I was not disappointed. The garlic chicken was good, nothing special, but solid food and a good portion I thought for the less than $6 small price. Shrimp dumplings were amazing and definitely shareable. They offer lunch specials for a cheap price which we will definitely be trying. Overall, a great local food place and perfect for quick, delicious Chinese.

Yelp
Cheng's is a good restaurant. It has a pleasant interior and the service is fairly quick. I went there for lunch and decided to go with the Hunan Combination lunch option. It isn't huge portion size, but for lunch that's what you want. Considering it is about $5 cheaper than the dinner Hunan Combination, I'd say it's a good value. The menu rates it as spicy, but I'd disagree and yet call it tasty. The chicken, shrimp, and beef are all quite good, which makes you happy you chose the Combination. The broccoli is a little stiff for my taste, as I prefer a soft broccoli which has had ample time to soak up all the other flavors. But other than that, I've got no complaints. I would definitely come back for lunch again.

Yelp
You really can't find better Chinese restaurants in Lexington than Cheng's! This Clays Mill Rd. favorite has been around for years and never disappoints. The menu is your basic Chinese menu found in most restaurants done to perfection. The soups, sides and entrees are excellent. Some of my favorites are the Hot & Sour Soup, Moo Goo Gai Pan, General Tso's Chicken, and Beef & Broccoli. They also use a very special ingredient that sets them apart from your favorite bourbon chicken joint in the mall....REAL WHITE MEAT CHICKEN!!! I know what your saying....come on man....parts is parts! I want those unidentifiable chicken nugs that comes in a white plastic bucket! Sorry Grasshopper, you have come to the wrong place! The staff is very friendly and they even have a pick up window so you won't be tempted to wander in North Lime Donuts as you are leaving! Oh, who am I kidding...eat in and then get your damn donut! Hopefully they have the Bacon Maple when you visit...but that's for another time.

Yelp
I tried this place for lunch one day and it's one of my best finds!!! Started off with Crab Rangoon which was great.. and sooo hot, straight outta the fryer! Anyway, then we ordered vegetable egg rolls.. they were ok, as expected toooo much cabbage was used to fill them up. The main course was made up of beef with vegetables and rice + spicy beef steaks with fried rice (2 entrees) ... both were delicious with ample portions! This was the perrrfect lunch for a rainy Friday afternoon in Kentucky. Will definitely be going back!
google avatar

Hannah J.

Yelp
Cheng's is hands down the best Chinese restaurant in Lexington. The takeout is always hot and fresh. I love their crab rangoons. I do wish they provided a bigger thing of the sweet and sour sauce for them. Tonight I tried the sesame chicken and I was so impressed I had to write a review. The chicken was all white meat and huge pieces. The sauce was perfect and not super sticky like other places. Their egg rolls are huge and perfectly cooked. If you like a lot of soy sauce be sure to ask for extra packets when you order. Love Cheng's!

Yelp
I'd give it zero if I could. Placed my order, everything seemed normal, showed up at their drive through, no food. They literally forgot to make my food and then responded with "we never forget". I'm trying to be polite as possible while starving, so I ask where is the food if they didn't forget. I told her what time I called and what order I placed. I asked what their number was to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Her eyes lit up, as if she had me where she wanted me. She refused to tell me the number and asked what number I called. I gave her the 9292 number while showing her my phone. The light suddenly faced from her eyes and she shrugged. She then said we can make your food now but it will be 20 minutes. I told her no thanks and sadly rode off to White Castle. People say this place is good but I'll never know, because I too, "never forget".

Paige B.

Yelp
Ordered through DoorDash as I was not feeling well and was craving egg drop soup. Not a big Chinese fan anymore as they all seem to be about the same and not great quality. But, didn't want to deliver just soup so I got chicken chow main as well. It is definitely an old school dish and generally a safe choice. I had it the next day. Oh my gosh was it surprisingly delicious! I asked for no onions and they got it right. It was the first I have ever gotten that was not in some kind of goopy sauce. It was cabbage, carrots and delicious white meat chicken. Very flavorful for such a simple dish. My faith in local Chinese food is restored!
google avatar

Taylor J.

Yelp
I am not a huge Chinese food eater but this was delicious. We had the Hunan combination which was very good. Not spicy in my opinion. The Mongolian beef was fairly good. The egg rolls were awesome! The crab rangoons were huge and so yummy! The sour soup was alright but the wonton soup was very good. The only surprising thing was the small size of the fried rice. But everything was so good, I will be back for sure.
google avatar

Linda H.

Yelp
This place has the best Chinese food I have eaten in years. The people that work there are super friendly and fast. The Orange chicken is made with huge chunks of chicken and the vegetable lomain is my other favorite. It's a little pricy but so worth it. They don't have fountain drinks only bottled coke. I don't care I love this place for Chinese food.
google avatar

Jim B.

Yelp
This place was definitely a find. We were looking to try a different Chinese restaurant than our usuals. A quick look at Yelp and we decided on Cheng's and man are we glad we did. The food was spectacular. Very likely the best egg rolls either of us have ever had. Soups were wonderful and the entrees did not disappoint. We went back a second time to make sure that it wasn't a fluke. Ordered the egg rolls and some dumplings. Wonderful as before. The service is absolutely amazing given that there is just the one lady taking care of the entire front of the house. This is definitely our new favorite Chinese restaurant in Lexington. Try it out. You won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Brianna M.

Yelp
One of my friends wanted to meet at Cheng's for a pre-party birthday dinner, and honestly I didn't expect much because Chinese food is hit or miss. This place is definitely a hole in the wall, but the food is delicious! By far the freshest and most delicious Chinese food I've had! Starting with the miso soup, I LOVED it! It had little dumplings in it that were savory and moist. The egg rolls were super crunchy and had lots of filling-I could have made a meal on those alone! My chicken lo mein was so fresh. The noodles were recently cooked and the veggies still crunchy. So good. The portions are big enough to split or take home leftovers. I sampled the spicy noodle dish and LOVED it. But it definitely packed a punch. I will absolutely come back to Cheng's when I'm in Lexington!!

Jay D.

Yelp
DO NOT order here... UNLESS you are willing to wait 40 minutes in line for your carry-out order. I even called prior and told the girl I was un-willing to wait 40 mutes in line, asked if they were open for walk-in carryout and she said, "Yes, but not indoor dining." Later, when I arrived, the door was locked and when I called she said I had to wait in the drive through line. Neighhhhhhhh... that is Horse Shit. NOPE. Did not wait and will not wait that long for some mediocre food. As almost everywhere these days, just piss poor Customer Service.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant. I moved from Lexington to Louisville two years ago, and I've yet to find a place in Louisville that compares. I was in Lexington recently and got my Cheng's fix and it's exactly as I remembered it. Cheng's has carry-out, a drive thru, and also a small dining area. I've almost always dined in, and it's never been a bad experience. It may seem slower than other Chinese takeout but it's worth it, as it's all made to order. I always get a combination plate, which comes with entree, rice, egg roll, AND soup. They have the best veggie egg rolls! I could probably just eat a plate of those for my meal and be satisfied. My favorite dishes are the sesame chicken and general tso's. Their general tso's sauce tastes homemade, as opposed to the thick sugary goop that's often covering cheap Chinese takeout general tso's. They also have an authentic menu, but I'm too happy with my usuals there to venture out! Every meal I've had at Cheng's has been consistently fresh and tasty. I highly recommend dining in for a cup of hot tea and a combo plate or stopping through the drive thru if you're in a hurry!

Betty L.

Yelp
Finally a decent Chinese restaurant. The egg rolls were good and not too greasy. The chicken and vegetables was very good wth lots of veggies and chicken. Wonton soup not great. I will go back and try other dishes. Worth your try
google avatar

Whitney P.

Yelp
If you're looking for absolutely no interaction or service you've found found the right spot! The food is fine, but I went through the drive-through on two separate occasions and neither time was asked if I wanted utensils nor were they given to me. How am I supposed to eat takeout without utensils? There was not a "hello" " how are you doing?" Nada! Handed me my food ,we paid , and we were gone.Next!

Rhonda B.

Yelp
Get over that you can't be seated inside - this is the best Chinese take out around! Restaurants are struggling enough to keep staff & cover overhead - I'm thankful they are doing what is best for them to stay open!
google avatar

Liz R.

Yelp
What can I say except I'm just pretty fed up with the negative attitude. I've given them enough tries and they are just not pleasant people. Don't go through the drive thru and after you've paid AND tipped ask if you could please get a water to go also, you forgot to take your medicine. You get that "look" you know, like you're cheap or trying to cheat them somehow so they offer to sell you a bottled water. That's okay, never mind...I can drive thru a McDonald's and not order anything except ice water and get it for free (usually, sometimes they charge a quarter or something). Oh, and I'm out of town, eating in the car because of Covid and still chose to support them even though almost all other restaurants have reopened their Dining Rooms but he seemed very irritated when I asked for utensils. Yeah...I'm just done supporting bad attitudes.
google avatar

Kristina T.

Yelp
We visited Cheng's being so close to our neighborhood. A great reviewed Chinese spot! They stay busy in their driv thru we decided to eat in. The service was great--we got our food almost immediately. If you're short on time, this is a good spot to go. I ordered the veggie lo-mein and my husband got the General So's chicken with white rice which both were good. The chicken pieces were big so definitely enough food to split with someone else. I also tried the sweet and sour soup, it was nice for a cold night. Check it out if you're over in the Clays Mill area.

Mike T.

Yelp
I have eaten here several times and food has been excellent. They have a drive through for pick up orders which is nice.
google avatar

Suzanne H.

Yelp
Cheng's does their genre of food right. It's your basic "take-out" style of Chinese food; but it is fresh and tasty. Certainly the best in Lexington, and my go-to when I want this type of food. I've been there a couple of times and have never been disappointed.
google avatar

Meghan G.

Yelp
Hands down the best Chinese food in Lexington. Everything we've had from there has been fantastic. Seafood items are always perfectly cooked. General Tso's could be a tick spicier. But their noodles a perfect.
google avatar

Jeff H.

Yelp
I read several good reviews of this restaurant, so visited them for a late lunch. The location is very accessible, with good parking. The decor and atmosphere in the dining room is nicely done, not fancy but good. The food and service here is above average, I do recommend going here, they do a excellent job.

Ben H.

Yelp
Really good Chinese. White meat General Tso's (the only way to go IMO) is a must try. All the classics are great here. Awesome service too.

Caution And Danger L.

Yelp
I've been going there for years, and the food has always been good. However, after covid, they closed their inside dining. that's fine, but now they do carry outs. That's fine as well, however, when I called to place an order before they closed on a week day at 9:00 P.M, at 8:30 P.M, the lady who answered the phone was very rude and said "were closed, and we close at 9" and I tried to reply, but she immediately hung up on me. Also, the guy who works there is also rude, he barely talks, and he doesn't even say a word once during the pickup process. I hate it that the service has gone down, but I'll never go back. it's been good for years, but the staff have turned rude, and don't care.
google avatar

Kerry F.

Yelp
We just tried Chengs out . First ones in the restaurant We were waited on immediately . Fast and friendly, we ordered the shrimp dumplings , veggie fried rice, veggie chow mein and Mongolian beef. Everything came out hot and delicious will definitely go back

Jo S.

Yelp
Chengs is a Lexington staple in Chinese food. The drive through makes things super easy and the food is always good.
google avatar

John W.

Yelp
We are picky Chinese eaters and Cheng's is the best in Lexington. Don't tell anyone though! They have a small dining room, but our favorite style is take-out. Great egg-rolls, Pork Fried Rice, Gen Tso's Chicken, Beef & Broccoli, Lemon Chicken, Orange Chicken... OK Well, Everything. ;-) We've never been disappointed.
