The 10 Best Indian Restaurants In Jersey City

"This food truck parked on Christopher Columbus Drive between Marin and Warren Street makes amazing dosas and kati rolls. The pepper chicken kati roll, masala dosa, and Indian coffee are the must-orders, but you’ll have to time it all accordingly—they’re only open from 6:30 to 10pm every evening, so plan to get there early to ensure you’re not stuck waiting in line." - nisha vedi pawar

Google
I buy from them almost every week. The taste is consistently good. There are lines and wait times are sometimes long during peak hours, but nothing unusual for a food truck.

Chennai flavors offers a homely food experience, and probably one of the best, most authentic, fresh South Indian food I've had in Jersey City (especially the coconut chutney). The truck is extremely clean, and they ensure separation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, which is quite important, especially to vegetarian and vegan people. I had Masala Dosa and Veg Biryani, both of which were amazing. Also the prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes they serve, again probably the best in JC. Would definitely go here a few times!

Google
Good south indian food. Good tasty food. Casually did a search and found this place around 10pm. Did not have chance to have dosa as sambar and chutney got over. Tried veg kothu parotta , paneer kothu parrota and veg briyani.. very economical pricing. Be prepared for some extra wait time when it is crowded. Overall ok to go 👍

Google
Horrible. Waited for more than 30 mins for 2 items… And no food was not prepared on first come first serve basis. We saw 3-4 people who came after us also get their food before us and when asked we were told- dosa has yet to be made.

This food truck is managed by Indian people. The rolls here are very tasty. You get coffee, lassi, and shakes here. It generally closes by 11:00 PM. Last order time is 10:00 PM. So place your order on time. Prices are affordable. They also serve biryani, chole bhature. Give it a try if you like food trucks!

Google
Chennai flavors offers an inexpensive and accessible takeout option for South Indian food in Jersey City. The food is tasty and flavorful, with the caveat that the dosas lose some of their crispiness when packed. Nonetheless, we relished the Masala Dosa and Mysore Masala Dosa, and eagerly look forward to being back to try more!

I'm obsessed with this food truck! Fresh, made-to-order dishes at amazing prices. Family-owned, and you can tell they're pouring their hearts into it. My go-to is the Paneer Kothu Paratha - ridiculously flavorful! The yogurt adds a perfect kick. Worth the 45-minute wait, trust me! The chef works hard to get every dish just right. Don't let the wait scare you off - this food is the real deal. Support local and give it a try!

Google
Solid and affordable south Indian foodtruck. Got some kick in the food: I ordered Chicken Curry (like a brown onion gravy with some chilis) and a Chicken Pepper, rice plate, for $12 each. Came with some lettuce ("salad"). Good amount of food for the area. It's nothing fancy but hey, it's decent and filling.

Yelp
I love Chennai Flavors Indian food truck!! They don't have an extensive menu - just dosas, biriani, curries, parathas and Kathi rolls but everything they do is freshly made and I need to come back again soon good!!! There is always a line! I see people double parking just to pick up their food or order because they see the truck! I also love that it's a family business and they take pride in their food!!! So happy that it's here tonight!!

Yelp
Got pepper chicken kathi roll. It was sooo good! The spicy chicken blended well with the spices giving it a unique flavor. I'll definitely go there again.

Yelp
Great pepper chicken kathi rolls, very flavorful. Reasonably priced. The chicken biryani is also very good and it is advertised as authentic. In general the food is flavorful and spicy. Usually a decent line.

Yelp
Let me put it this way... when people drive to a food truck for their food... you know it is good. Chennai Flavors used to be parked down near Exchange Place, but now seems to have settled into a consistent spot across the street from 50 Columbus. Personally I rotate between the chicken biryani and the tikka masala katti roll, but my wife has discovered the masala dosa and that's pretty much what she goes for these days. The mango lassi is delicious as well. Since I am a frequent consumer of the katti roll here... I do have to make one observation. The roti bread that is used to wrap the fillings is usually, in my experience, more like a tortilla in other establishments. Meaning, they tend to be a little on the thinner side and maybe machine made. The roti here I think is handmade and is flaky, chewy, and can stand on its own as it's own item on the menu. Maybe this makes the roll here less of a roll and more like a katti soft taco... but I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Yelp
At first this business may look like a truck from afar, but its eye-catching title and exotic smells is what brought me here. Hence, I ordered and the staff for this food truck is amazing. They may have long lines although the food when I ordered had aroma and actual taste. I asked for a Chicken Biryani and they make the pricing reasonable. Most other trucks/restaurants serve Briyani for 20 or more dollars which isn't even good. Though, the Chennai Flavors Food Truck but they make it $11 and their Briyani is rich with many exotic flavors. There are so many other food trucks that I've been which serve the Indian Cuisine but none as Chennai Flavors. They are the best truck in the city, if not the State of New Jersey! P.S. You got to love the staff, be patient for them and the truck may have many people but the food altogether is worth the wait. Love to revisit and come here again ;)

Yelp
First off, I finished making a transaction at the Chase Bank and went to look for food as I was hungry. I saw multiple food trucks, but none of the trucks really flashed my eye except for the Chennai Flavors Food Truck. Moreover, I walked up to the truck and the staff was really polite. I ordered their Chicken Biriyani and a Mango Lassi. Right off the bat, their Chicken Biryani has so many rich flavors and spices. The Mango Lassi had a nice, sweet flavor and had the right amount of pulp. Overall, this truck has great Indian food, staff, and worth MY 5 star ;)

Yelp
Great dosas, utappams, chicken biryani and great service - love the location and value for money.

Yelp
It's a really solid food truck with the best Kathi Roll I've had in Jersey City so far. The portions are fairly generous but you'll probably want two kathi rolls per person. The prices are fair, not a bargain but not overpriced, and so far everyone who I've taken here has enjoyed what they've eaten. Kuttu parotha was good but wasn't the best I've ever had, even in New Jersey. One star off because I'm tough critic on Indian food and though this is honestly really good, and scratches the itch certainly, it's not the best I've ever eaten.

Yelp
Ordered the Masala Dosa here. The filling was delicious, but the Dosa was a let down as it was far from crispy.

Yelp
I like their coffee and dosas but their cocount chutney is so watery now as compared to before. It has more water than coconut. Its more like coconut water than coconut chutney. If it continues, I will not longer buy their dosas.

Yelp
Worst kati roll I've ever eaten. Mango lassi was good but could be colder. I definitely expected better.

Yelp
I am surprised to no reviews for this place! Anyways, I can strongly recommend this place if you are looking for some light Indian food. Their food is simple and flavorful- not loaded with butter/grease. I have tried their biryani and the veggies with rice and dosas- all of them have been excellent. Ironically, they are typically parked next to an Indian restaurant but still manage to draw a big crowd.

Yelp
Hands down the best food truck!! My favorite is chicken kothu parotta, uthappam and coffee. Katti rolls are good too! Takes me back home. Their sambar/lentil vegetable curry is also really good for dosas.

Yelp
Good light indian food . Good options of Kati Rolls , South Indian options and veg Biryani . We have ordered multiple times and more or less taste is consistent . wait time is on the higher side but I guess because there is only 1 cook responsible for everything.
