It was out first time. Service was pretty good. The lady was nice hut for got our order...it seemed like she was running for the bar and the diner. Food was good, I'm not much of a crab puff gal, but I liked theirs. Perhaps this is how they should taste. The oil must be cleaned all the time to look the same but taste better. We aren't always this far into Portland. But I know, we'll come again!

Google
Fast, efficient service: the water and the menu were at my table a second after I sat. The waitress brought the tea and the soup quickly. The chow fun was tasty and filling with a good ratio of noodles, vegetables, and chicken. The waitress checked in with the customers a few times during my meal, and handled the check and payment with the same professional efficiency. Back again Jan 3 2025 - this time I had the twin kung pao special (chicken and shrimp) served with egg flower soup, spring roll, and a little metal cup of very hot Chinese mustard. All very tasty.

The atmosphere is escapism from the hustle and bustle of inner Portland: Lloyd District. The employees are very friendly and funny: in a very Chinese kinda' way ;-) There is a local bar scene off to the left, to the right is maybe 10 booths, and behind that there are 2 banquet rooms. The food is generally good, the prices fair under the circumstances (2025), the atmosphere is perfect 100% Chinese. Reminds me of some of the off alley restaurants I eat at while in China for 1 year: Beijing, Chongqing, Chengdu, Weihai, ect. But only a few people here (all take-out orders)...so I miss the NOISE....and the CROWD.....of China....other then those 2 things....I love this place. Oh, and the outside could use a bit of paint and a pot-hole or two filled in the parking lot. But for me, it's what's inside.

Google
They have claimed to be gluten free on some menu items over the phone only to inform me the opposite while trying to confirm gluten free foods later. They have been inconsistent in their information. Do not eat here if you're gluten free.

Google
Food is always amazing and staff is so warm and welcoming. We have been here a few times and each time its always the same warm feeling and amazing staff.

Dave H.

Google
We had this delivered to us and had a very large order. The food was mediocre at best. The fried rice was flavorless, one of the chicken dishes was supposed to have peppers and came with no peppers and celery. The pot stickers were the best part of the meal.

Will P.

Google
Amazing General Tso's chicken. Friendly service, proper decor and vibes. Will go again.

Jereb S.

Google
Ordered the salted pepper prawns, dynasty chow fun, and egg rolls. Egg rolls drenched and dripping with oils, inedible. Salted pepper prawns were very greasy and devoid of any flavors of salt or pepper. Chow fun noodles were mushy and had no flavor. Would not recommend.

Yelp
Great old school Chinese food. Takes me back to the 80s with the plastic and wood booths and glass top tables. The waitress was great and the food came out quickly. Loved the 3 ingredient egg roll...mainly cabbage, pork and a wrapper. The sweet n sour chicken, cashew chicken and general tso were great dishes. The broccoli scallops had a brown sauce that was too watery and the scallops had an off taste...definitely were frozen. Overall I'd come back for old school Chinese!

Yelp
1 star for poor quality, not as pictured, other pictures had multiple types of peppers and mushrooms, this was pretty much celery and green peppers. The sauce tasted fine. The Chicken was chewy. the portion was plenty. Freshness poor since the veggies were over cooked. would not order again No where in the description did they say that the chicken was battered and fried, The second 1* reason isn't totally their fault. it's partly doordash... but I assume a human being would have picked up on the fact that one person at a hotel was ordering an exact duplicate of their food. Both had a flag for no condiments or utensils even though that was the exact opposite of I requested when opened the order & updated it to make sure they gave me a plastic fork so I didn't have to eat with my fingers in a hotel room. So I got double charged for double the food which is double the trouble for trying to be convenient with ordering Chinese into my hotel room.

Yelp
I dont feelngood about piling on to a stack of lackluster reviews.....buuuut..... here. We are. I ordered hot and sour soup, egg rolls, and general tso chicken. The soup was ok, but lacking in both hot and sour. It wasn't bad per se, but if you're craving that "hot" (spice) and "sour", this didnt deliver on either. The egg rolls had a darker crisp (which was the selling factor on getting them), and the texture was ok. This filling was s bit mushy but the flavor was good. The biggest downfall was the overwhelming oil taste. I understand they are deep fried, but this was overwhelming. The general tso chicken was......not good. It was mushy and bland. Colorless and tasteless. The texture was also off putting. Picking up my order was timely (yay), but I felt like I needed an armed escort in and out of the building. Hopefully they can improve.
google avatar

Yelp
My order of Moo Goo Guy Pan was hot and delicious. The egg rolls were fried perfectly and was tasty and hot. They gave me the right condiments and one egg roll. I'm a very satisfied customer. Thanks Chen's Dynasty!

Yelp
I am grateful to them for providing halal meat. Only halal Chinese restaurant in Portland as far as I'm aware. The service is excellent and while the restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, the interior has some aspirations of opulence. There's an epic mural of a waterfall in the back and it was nice staring at it while slurping up some noodles. There's much better Chinese food in Portland. This is the most basic basic "Chinese" food. It's one note in terms of flavor, and that flavor is soy sauce. The "paradise chicken" has some sweeter notes but largely blends in with all the other dishes. We had Mongolian beef, general tso's chicken, and paradise chicken. Aside from the various textures, they were practically indistinguishable. I'm counting down the days until Taste of Sichuan opens up again in Beaverton. That was peak Chinese flavor and authenticity

Yelp
Three stars is generous and really for the lunch specials and staff friendliness! They have a main seating area, along with a bar that has a few small tables and video lottery. The lunch specials are a great deal and I have tried three now. General's Chicken, Beef & Broccoli, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. Beef and Broccoli were so good I forgot to get a pic. Come for some basic Chinese food. They have dinner specials, too!

Yelp
Stoped there for lunch today. Fast efficient service. Great lunch prices. Spicy beef, spicy chicken, and great hot and sour soup. What more could one ask for, probably will try this spot for dinner some night.
google avatar

Lance V.

Yelp
The food was excellent - Yu Hsiang Pork lunch special. Great quality and portions But a few service issues held the experience back. The hostess seemed surprised when I arrived, I had to get up to ask for water, and the soup was served alongside the main course instead of beforehand. The server never followed up with me after bringing the meal. These details affected the overall impression, but it was still a good meal.

Yelp
Egg foo yung was awful. Everything was sooooo greasy. Didn't even have bean sprouts in the patties. Egg rolls. Also extremely greasy. I didn't even eat it. Had 1/2 of an egg foo yung party. Ate 1 or the two egg rolls. Tossed everything out.
google avatar

Patrick H.

Yelp
Really decent Chinese-American food. Their egg rolls and crab puffs are legit. Their entrees are as expected but very tasty (dynasty beef, sesame chicken, and broccoli beef are our go tos.) Skip the fried rice.

Paula F.

Yelp
Food Sweet-and-sour sauce was like water and chicken was barely cooked chicken lo mein was dry and the little squares of chicken was tough not good!!!

Christopher S.

Yelp
Some people seem to like the food here, but it's so loud and obnoxious that you can't hear yourself think. The staff can't hear you either and will yell "Huh!?" over and over when you try to order or ask a question

Yelp
Sometimes you want the Americanized version of Chinese food from your youth, and in Portland, that's hard to find. When I'm craving an egg roll, not a tiny spring roll, but a real egg roll, overstuffed with cabbage, pork and other veggies, I head to Chen's. This is also my go-to for spare ribs, not it the chopped up version, the full Slab of ribs coated in sweet red Chinese barbecue sauce. And while I'm at it, I get an order of their pork fried rice which is loaded with pork, peas, carrots, onions and egg - the way it's supposed to be! I've never ventured from this order because these are the items that bring me to Chen's, the American Chinese versions that I can't find elsewhere. If I'm craving shrimp and snow peas or Mongolian beef I go to Shandong or Kong Pow! But for greasy American Chinese, it's Chen's all the way! Typically I order in the lobby and wait for them to prepare the food which is ready in 10 minutes. There is a bar to the left; it's super dark inside, surprisingly, I've actually seen small crowds in there during Happy Hour. The restaurant section with the old fashioned booths is to the right and it is usually empty or has just a few tables occupied. They have a small parking lot attached to the restaurant plus Easy street parking out front ion NE Broadway. Never once have I eaten at the restaurant. It's a bit too dark and the atmosphere is not appealing to me so I order take out and have my guilty pleasure at home, which is part of the enjoyment.

Yelp
What the hell is going on nowadays. Whoa !!! The prices . I stopped in to bring food home to avoid all the Xtra costs and I had to leave even then after looking at the price changes. All the entrees are like $18 .95 I just wanted my chicken Lo Mein , pint of rice and some dumplings. 6 now not 8 like used to be . Can't even get the containers of pork fried rice for $4.95 any more . Was $11.95. so sad at the world now, I'm so sick. I really miss the East coast Combination meals for like well what use to be like $6.95 back in the good ole days are even like $12 .95 now . For the 3 items I wanted used to cost around $21 is now $40 I am sorry to say but I wont feel bad if all you high priced places go out of business .

Yelp
Meh! Not impressed. Maybe it was because I was craving some really good Chinese food like I used to get prior to moving here. I ordered and had it delivered via Grub Hub. (The delivery guy was amazing though). My Orange Chicken was very tough inside and the breading on the outside was soggy and very gross. I could hardly even eat it. A few bites and my garbage can had a new friend. It was too tough to eat it. I had egg rolls as well. Those were good and cooked correctly, but...they forgot to send any sauce for it. Bummer!! I did eat the egg rolls until I got to the last one, something tasted sour in it. A bit spoiled and sour. Hmmm... didn't seem right. Then came the fried rice. Really? Overcooked and dry. Dry! I was so disappointed and actually a bit mad. I did call them, they were not interested in making anything right so the decision is, I will never eat here again, I will not recommend Chen's to anyone and....sadly, here came the review. The one great thing from my entire meal was my fortune cookie! So far, my fortune has been looking pretty good! ;)

Elm M.

Yelp
Not good at all, I'm sorry to say. Added a star for great customer service..but the food was horrible.
google avatar

Wendy W.

Yelp
Ordered for 8:45 but delivered at 8:19 - - so it was cold. Beef was not tender. Orange Chicken was fatty thigh meat and breading was soggy from the (not tasty) sauce. It didn't indicate you would receive rice (or ask white or brown) so we paid for it and didn't need to. So sad. Then.... I get a big chunk of orange peel in my Broccoli Beef! Not happy at all. I tried to call at 9:01 and no one answered the phone.
google avatar

Yelp
Just had an excellent lunch at Chen's Dynasty! Our meal was fantastic and the service was perfect and very warm. Great soups! The building is kinda funky, be sure to check the bar area. Lunch for 2 under $20? Not bad! See my photos...

Yelp
My mom loves American Chinese food so we got an order to go. My mom loved it. If your in the mood for that kind of food it hits the spot. The crab puffs were my favorite. Next time I will try something different. When ordering online they didn't have descriptions under the food items so that was a little frustrating.

Gabriel T.

Yelp
The gal at the bar stopped me asking for my identification, which I gladly gave to her to verify, she looked at it and studied it and gave it back to me and at the same time shook her head saying I, I, I don't know, I then replied, what?..you don't think that's me? She said no,mind you I have a very distinctive look, then she kind of had to admit it looked like me, especially after I flawlessly repeated my name, birthdate, address, so what this person had left was she said that she was 5'7" and I was not as tall as she was....how f**king insulting is that? I mean wtf? So rude!!! At a place of business, I am pretty sure she profiled me and does not like Latin men, that is the only reason I could think of, I would never, never, never ever recommend anyone go to this establishment, on that reason alone!

Andi L.

Yelp
Don't do it guyyyyys. This place truly isn't worth spending your money on. My partner got a sizzling rice soup and they barely gave her any rice for it especially compared to the soup portion. Her soup was bland and unflavorful. I got the hot and sour soup which is my absolute fave anywhere else, I can honestly say this was the worst version I've ever ever ever had. So bad, no spice, literally just tasted like thick goo. Took 2 sips and gagged. We also got the appetizer platter, and the best thing about the entire meal was the crab rangoons and that's not really a compliment to them. I'm just glad I had my own sweet garlic chili sauce at home because if I didn't, none of it would've been edible.
google avatar

Jay F.

Yelp
Serving sizes are generous and Decently priced. Staff here are awesome. NO Complaints about this place recommend this restaurant.

Alan K.

Yelp
The food was not all that great. The hot and sour soup was missing the sour component. The shrimp was ok but not real flavor full. The spring roll was land. I was surprised I got sweet and sour sauce but absolutely no soy sauce that is requirement for Chinese food. Over all I would rate 3 out of 5 stars. Grub hub was efficient in their service. The cost was a bit more than expected. $36+ was too high for what I got. I don't get these service fees though.
google avatar

Krizia N.

Yelp
I ordered through DoorDash and they have a 4.7 rating on there. So, I thought I'd give it a try. My order: - Chow Fun (no meat option - they automatically add pork, beef and shrimp) - Hot & Sour Soup - Crab Puffs All of three were bland. The Chow Fun didn't come with sauce (see photo), it was so bland that after two bites I didn't want anymore. The soup was super oily (see photo). I like how they give 8 crab puffs but they're unfortunately bland. They also didn't give me any utensils, soy sauce or the sweet sauce for the crab puffs... Don't recommend.
google avatar

Nick C.

Yelp
The egg drop soup was good, but it ended there. I ordered this on Postmates. Under special instructions, I wrote "ALLERGY WARNING no mushrooms" in all caps. But that was completely ignored, so my partner couldn't eat anything but the soup. The Happy Family was by far the worst variation of this dish I've ever eaten. It was sour like the sauce had vinegar or lemon in it. Normally, the sauce is a rich brown, put this one was an unappetizing tan. Also, the chow fun was bland and tasteless. $39 for the food and another $20 for delivery made this a very disappointing meal.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
My wife and I ordered take out. Bill was around $50 including tip. We got two orders of Genera Tso and the Szechuan String Beans. The General Tso's was just... bad. Strong taste of vinegar, kinda mushy... just disappointing. We tried it the next day thinking maybe it would taste better cold. Nope. It was tolerable but not at all enjoyable. The Szechuan string beans however were gross. They tasted like they were soaked in vinegar. Definitely won't be giving this another try... too expensive and not at all worth it. Note: My expectations were for cheap [Americanized] Chinese food. It fell well below these expectations.

Brooklyn S.

Yelp
I would not recommend. The only thing good was our tables service. However, the table next to us arrived way before us and still hadn't received their food when we left. The crab puffs smelt and tasted moldy. The food also has no flavor and was bland. Ambiance was sub par. It's the first time leaving leaving a Chinese food restaurant without bringing the food home for ourselves or even the dogs.
google avatar

Vili V.

Yelp
I usually order Postmates from here and it's always...you know...like regular Chinese takeout comfort food. But TODAY, I don't know if they had a different chef or what, but it was absolutely delicious. The General Tso's tasted like a fresh chicken from the backyard-super plump and juicy and the sauce was perfectly savory. Possibly the BEST General Tso's I've ever had. Enough to write a review for a supposedly three star restaurant. The BBQ pork fried rice was so full of veggies and pork and whatnot, I couldn't believe it. Everything is always large portion sizes and this was no different. What a delightful surprise! I hope whoever cooked today continues to do so with such delightful flavors. You get all the stars!!!
google avatar

James O.

Yelp
Ordered take out hot and sour soup the other night. I have high standards for this - the best I know of was Chen Yen before he closed. Where, oh where, did the chef go and did he take his recipes with him? The soup from here was pretty good but not outstanding. The broth was pretty tasty but the goodies were a little sparse and lacking in many vegetables. I am very sensitive to really spicy foods and this was well within my taste range. But some people might find it a little bland. I will continue my search for a really outstanding hot and sour soup.
google avatar

Steven C.

Yelp
This I know to be true: about an hour and a half after eating some pork fried rice, some orange chicken and 3 spring rolls from Chen's Dynasty (delivered by GrubHub) this last Monday evening, I began projectile vomiting and having explosive bloody diarrhea which lasted all Monday night, all day Tuesday, into Wednesday, and I spent most of today, Thursday, (now Friday) in the hospital's Emergency Department, where I was diagnosed with gastroenteritis (inflammation of the stomach and intestines, typically resulting from bacterial toxins or viral infection and causing vomiting and diarrhea). I had to be given fluids via IVs because I was so dehydrated and unable to hold even water down. I received a strong dressing-down for having waited so long to go to the ED. Conjecture: Was it food poisoning? By my understanding of what the docs all said, it most likely was. They apparently could find no evidence of a virial cause. And since it occurred so soon after ingesting my meal from Chen's Dynasty (and I had not eaten anything all Monday, just drank my usual bottled juice and coffee drinks), it's extremely difficult for me to *not* believe that there was some causality there. JMHO. Will I eat from Chen's Dynasty again? "Likely not." .
google avatar

Holley M.

Yelp
Meal was delivered by: GRUBHUB (dropped outside apartment door/despite instructions to text or call) our food was just left at the door without any notification it was there. . Food was not flavored, cold and VERY expensive at $32.00 for 1 dinner, egg rolls and shrimp fried rice. We will NOT be ordering anything else AGAIN.
google avatar

Carissa B.

Yelp
Moo shu shrimp is my favorite - it's hard to find and hard to find done well. Chen's does it exactly how I like it. Delicious!!!!!!

Cheryl P.

Yelp
We chose Chen's because of the high ratings on DoorDash. Disappointing! Very bland in both color and taste, there wasn't much sauce and that added to the overall lack of flavor. And the shrimp were weirdly mushy! (That's what got me to leave my very first ever Yelp review!)
google avatar

Dana H.

Yelp
The first few bites made me think this was decent Americanized, guilty pleasure Chinese food. Turns out, it's just the bad version of that. But, as I say, even a bad doughnut is still a doughnut, so I ate it all and I'd do it again. The crispy fried wontons looked like giant tortellinis without filling. They were crisp on the putter parts (more like stale) but chewy (and stale) in the middle. Not great. The general tso's didn't seem like it was fried before drenched in the sauce (which was actually pretty good). There was nothing crisp about them, it was basically cooked chicken thigh in sauce. I did like that the sauce came in spicy levels. I love spicy, but keep in mind that medium might be too much for a lot of people. The vegetable fried rice was crazy greasy. In a good way. In addition to your typical addition of what we're frozen peas and carrots, there were mushrooms and onions. So that's something, I guess. I ordered this food on Amazon Eats. It was a-okay.
google avatar

Lizz E.

Yelp
The food we got was Inedibly bad. I'm giving 2 stars because it was December 27th. I understand the crunch after Christmas. But seriously. The food was bad. Flavorless while also being spicy. Weirdly dry. We couldn't eat any of it.
google avatar

Izaak Z.

Yelp
This place is overpriced and not very good. My Chicken with Orange Flavor was overly spicy and I wasted half of it because I could not take the spice level. I understand that there are some people who like spicy foods, but please have a warning on your menu. "Chicken chunks, orange peel and ginger" does not seem like it would be hot, right? To be fair, I think what I wanted really was the Lemon Chicken (which sounds like what most other places call Orange Chicken "Batter fried chicken breast covered with sweet lemon sauce." It's sad when the Chinese hot bar at Safeway is better than at an actual Chinese restaurant. Before anyone complains about authentic vs. Americanized Chinese food: authentic this isn't. It's your standard Americanized Chinese schlock. The thing is, Americanized Chinese food can be sublime or not. This was not.
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
everything I ordered barely had any flavor. I don't know how everything could literally taste like nothing, but that's what happened.

Javier M.

Yelp
Terrible service. Food is ok. Ambiance is as bad as the service. Never know what you're gonna get!
google avatar

Joseph F.

Yelp
Yummy, found this little gem on Grub Hub when we were trying to get a Chinese food fix when the in-laws were in town for the holidays. They do delivery which is a plus and we have not tried their dine in option yet. Its just so convenient to get delivery. My wife has a love for their spring rolls that are little bits of deep fried vegetable heaven. I have daily cravings for their kung pao beef or chicken fried rice. How they get the smoky flavor into each bite is an amazing feat that I have not been able to master in my kitchen. When you want Chinese food done right and want to watch Netflix and chill. Look no further, Chens Dynasty is the place for you!

Lolo R.

Yelp
I tried them out on DoorDash and was very unhappy. My mushu felt completely uncooked while my potstickers were dense and hard the crab ragoons were okay will not return
google avatar

Erich Q.

Yelp
Tried them twice now via delivery through Postmates. Each time, the food was awful. It's just sugar paste on protein, basically. No flavor. Also, they got the order wrong 2/2 times. Try someplace else.
google avatar

Charl L.

Yelp
My friend and I both got food poisoning Christmas night. We ordered the dumplings, Kung Pao, and General Tso's chicken. We threw up all night!!!! I filed a complaint with the Health Department. We would like a refund!!!! We are still sick!!!
google avatar

Chef N D.

Yelp
Uh....mediocre at best. If you just gotta have some Chinese food. But don't expect to find anything great. I got the hot and sour soup and the dynasty lo mein. The hot and sour soup was bland and maybe it was because it was the end of the night and didn't want to whip up no more. Nevertheless it had no flavor...like it was missing rice vinegar and a little soy. The dynasty lo mein was even blander it seemed like they cooked it with no lo mein sauce. To make this more desirable I would suggest adding some oyster sauce and sweet soy sauce. They need to rename it Dy-NASTY lo mein.....because if you due from eating this you gone have a nasty taste in your mouth. LOL But basically this sucked...not so good Chinese food.
google avatar

Tony T.

Yelp
Ok, I love me some Chinese food. I'd like to think I'm a connoisseur of Americanized Chinese food. I grew up spending a lot of time in Chinese restaurants, done take out, bussed, and served in a few. Chen's I think is a rock solid Restaurant. I wasn't too keen on the Kung Pao Chicken since they slightly breaded/deep fried before sautéing. That I haven't seen and tasted before. That said, the texture was fine however the sauce was under seasoned and under salted. This is something others have also confirmed. OK hater comments over. Hot and Sour was in my opinion the best I've had in Portland. I'm not sure what the deal is but East Coast Hot and Sour soup is just WAY better than West Coast. East Coast is just way more consistent. I haven't found a place here in Portland where I really love the Hot and Sour Soup.... Chen's Dynasty is legit. I also had Sesame Chicken, it was definitely good, not quite as memorable as the Hot and Sour Soup though. That all said, when I had Chen's it was take out. I will definitely try it again sometime dining in. The joint didn't look super appealing, kind of typical old fashion West Coast Americanized Chinese food place with a dingey bar attached to a 70's looking Chinese Restaurant. I will definitely try it again and re-rate my stars.
google avatar

Johnny L.

Yelp
WOW! My wife and I were starting to lose hope of finding any good Chinese food in Portland. We have had tried several other places and all were bad, really bad. But, yesterday we thought we we make one more attempt and to our amazement Chen's Dynasty was very very good! We ordered the Szechuan Sesame Chicken, King Pao Chicken, Pot Stickers, Crab Puffs, and Dynasty Lo Mein. All of the food was very good!!!! I also want to point out that I made modification requests to the food and they made the changes we requested without any problems and everything was correct just as we requested. They delivered our food earlier than they told us. The delivery person was very nice. No delivery charges unlike other restaurants and their prices are very fair! Other restaurants are more expensive and have bad food. I would also like to say Rosanna who took my phone call was very polite, very professional and she was very patient. Rosanna left me with a very positive impression. We are happy we finally found a great Chinese restaurant! We would like to thank the entire team at Chen's Dynasty. We have ordered several times since our first post and they have been perfect every time!!!! We always order with some specific modifications and every time they got it right! Food is always hit and tastes so good!! Again, thank you to the entire team at Chen's.
google avatar

Maya-Luisa G.

Yelp
Worst Chinese food I've ever had. Chow fun is very thin w/ shredded chicken, zero flavor. Dumplings were too thick yet brittle & falling apart. Chicken w/veggies also had zero flavor. Just say no.

Kevin V.

Yelp
I really like the food here. It's typical American style greasy-spoon Chinese food. If that's what you're looking for, you're in luck. I think their COVID measures are very nice, so no worries there.
google avatar

Brad V.

Yelp
We ordered on Door Dash and it got here very quickly. However, the food was so bland and had no flavor. The pot stickers were mushy and tasted like cardboard. You can tell they use so much msg in their food as well. I will NEVER eat here again. We ended up complaining to Door Dash and they gave us $30 back. I even had to send pictures in for proof and they agreed, it didn't look great. There are so many other restaurants that are so much better than this place. Don't waste your money here.
google avatar

Nico O.

Yelp
Ordered the general tso chicken and chicken with orange flavor for $30 and it was awful. I honestly would rather have went to the food court in the mall. Super overpriced and tasted gross. I couldn't even finish my meal
