Old‑school, family‑run spot known for generous combo plates and fast takeout. Consistently cited in City Pulse’s Top of the Town listings, it’s a northside favorite for sesame chicken, lo mein, and weeknight dinners that don’t break the bank.

Google
15-year customer. Food is always fresh, cooked to order, and full of flavor. So I've never been to an Asian country to be able to compare for authenticity, so if that's what you're looking for....I can't help you. If you are looking for Chinese fast food done well, in Lansing, this is your place. I love their egg rolls, sesame chix, lover's delight (I ask for it, not spicy), beef n broccoli, and this is the ONLY place I'll order crab Rangoon. The vegetables are always cooked perfectly, not soggy! If you're looking to save money, you could definitely share a meal between 2 ppl. I always have leftovers.

Google
We ordered delivery and it was fast and well presented. The young chow fried rice is always my favorite. We had the beef with mushrooms, friend shrimp, and young chow fried rice, and the crab Rangoon which was good but didn't taste like crab just cream cheese. Overall, excellent food and speedy service.

Google
Chen’s has been a staple for my family since childhood. Their food is darn consistent which is important to me - especially when I get take out. The portions are so large sometimes I can even stretch a dish out into multiple meals. They are a great local spot I’m always happy to support!

Aj Kauly

Google
Nice Family Run Healthy restaurant. They have a unique 'Diet' Section of menu, where all food is steamed, zero oil nor spice, perhaps a tad of salt. YOu can add your own sauces/spices to it! VERY affordable. Good place to have a quiet conversation too!

Donald Spicer

Google
The food here is really good and very affordable, my wife and ate for under 20 dollars. The dining room is a little dark and dingy but the food and prices more than make up for it.

Ben Greenstein

Google
Flavorful, affordable, quick and solid portions! My new go-to!!

Jeffrey Stieve

Google
Never had a take out without exactly what I ordered. I find that unusual for chinese. Great portions, fair prices and always great eats. I suggest more people consider tipping for take out, as it is obvious the staff spends quality time getting the food properly prepared, on time and correct!

Phil Stevens

Google
Great food prepared hot and fresh. I usually get the Jumbo Shrimp in Chili Sauce and it is consistent, tasty, and a good sized portion.

Yelp
Always fresh and delicious!! Cooks , servers and owners are wonderfull too! All the food is wonderfull I

Yelp
Called and called for an hour. No answer. Drove to the restaurant and a car was there, a sign on the door with hours 1-9 pm. call was 1pm. Got there and door was locked, a car was there but no answer. Very inconsiderate. I called again at 4pm to inquire what happened and to get the real time. I was told basically when they show up, then they open . Unexceptionable attitude. And last time I ordered the order wasn't placed and I had to wait til it was made. The whole point of calling in is not to have to wait. Getting fed up.

Yelp
Always hot and fresh. Have ate at this place for years and it's so good everytime. Best egg drop soup in town.

Yelp
I really do love Chen's!! However, their decor is outdated and unkempt. The restaurant is more often than not very dirty and maintenance seems to be lacking very badly. I tend to eat with my eyes closed because if I really looked around, I would not ever eat here. It's the recipes that keep me coming back for more!! Chen's is simply the best for vegetable fried rice, tofu, egg rolls, cream cheese rangoons, sesame chicken, general tso and so much more! I suggest you order take out or do as I do. Don't go to the bathroom until after you eat and don't look around too much either. Chen: clean your restaurant my friend!! You work far too hard and too good for your customers to wonder, "if this is what I can see, what does the kitchen look like?" Also, get someone to perform basic maintenance in your facility and update the decor. All of this cone with an expense but could really boost your business.

Yelp
I would highly recommend Chen's to someone who loves noodles as much as I do. When I go to Chen's I order noodles without vegetables and they are delicious. Their crab rangoons are amazing as well. I am very satisfied with Chen's every time I order it! :)

Yelp
Chens has been my go-to Chinese restaurant for over a decade. The quirky round building used to be a bank/credit many years back before it was a Chinese restaurant. The night deposit slot is still there and the building is a classic north Lansing installment. Their food is fresh and fast and prices cannot be beat for the amount of food included in each dish. What do I recommend? All of it. The hot sour soup is my favorite with tofu, veggies and the perfect balance of hot, sour. The eggrolls are perfectly crisp and not at all greasy. Lo Mein, Mei Fun, Mongolian Beef, Lemon Chicken (yum!), Sesame Chicken, Shrimp anything. They have lots of dishes without meat as well.

Yelp
I love Chen's. I feel it definitely is one of the best in Lansing but the only thing for me is that I live too far away for them to deliver to my house. But other than that, their food is always fresh and fast and cheap! You get so much for the price. I got what I usually order from Chinese restaurants which is sweet & sour chicken with some type of fried rice, this time pork fried rice. It was very hot. And I don't know if they changed the sauce but it was a lot sweeter than usual. Anywho, I barely got through half of my food without getting full and that is awesome in my book.

Yelp
Poor Lansing has a huge lack of good Chinese food takeout. Chen's is one of the better options. First off, it's very reasonably priced. They offer small and large options of the entrees and a large is enough to feed two of us easily. However, the quality is hit or miss. I've enjoyed their steamed dumplings and sweet and sour chicken. I don't really care for the general tso's chicken or fried rangoons. There also are never any veggies in with the chicken. I remember the good old days of onions, broccoli and peppers in my chicken dishes... The rice is usually pretty well-cooked. I've never eaten at the restaurant, but I have gotten takeout quite a few times. Twice, the order was slightly off, so make sure you check that. All in all, I'll keep going back but it's just not great.

Matthew F.

Yelp
Generally speaking, the food at Chen's is very good. I particularly enjoy their shrimp egg foo young and their fried wontons. Portions are a good size, and the cooks are conscientious of allergy concerns. My out-of-town friends like Chen's food, and this is where it becomes embarrassing. The restaurant interior is absolutely filthy - it is downright gross. For such a successful restaurant, there is absolutely no need for this. Indeed, the Health Department should be notified. This is a family business. The teen waitresses could use a tip in friendliness and manners, as well.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in Lansing. We found this restaurant after our old favorite, Golden Wok, closed in East Lansing so they could build another grocery store. Now if they could offer a Detroit Style Almond Chicken (breaded chicken breast, sliced horizontally, served on a bed of lettuce, with sliced almonds and a yellow gravy) it would be amazing! No Chinese restaurant in the Lansing area offers Almond Chicken like I grew up with in the Detroit area. Apparently Almond Chicken is a Detroit area creation after I Googled it to try and find a recipe to make it myself. Google Dale Yees in Livonia Michigan if you want to see what I mean about the original style Almond Chicken. Chen's version is good, but has many vegetables with it and is more of a breaded chicken stir fry in a light brown gravy. Similar to mushroom chicken that I have had elsewhere, but with many more vegetables. The appetizers are awesome, and we love the steamed dumplings. For Detroit transplants like us, this is your place!

Yelp
First time there and it will be the last time. Dining room is dirty and server brought me the wrong meal. I asked for sweet and sour chicken and she brought me orange chicken. I said I would just eat what she brought me. My husband had sesame chicken which was the same taste as my meal with a few sesame seeds tossed on it. The sticky flavorless sauce drowned the chicken. Very disappointed... we left 3/4s of our meal on the table and the server did not even ask if we wanted boxes (we didn't, but still..)

Yelp
I like this place..I picked up my order..it was ready on time. Good prices..got it home..So hot n fresh...and plenty of food..I will come back.

Yelp
Ate here about 3 months ago. Both my husband and I ordered the General Tsos. One bite for us each and straight to the trash it went. It was slimy, tasted funny, and was a waste of $20. I have no clue why everyone raves about this place, I really wanted to give this place an amazing review, but sadly I can't.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is very good. They have fast delivery, good food, and they are easy on the wallet. Not the best, but worth risking the trots for.

Yelp
Chens is a good restaurant all the food I eat here was good I love the general tso chicken it is moist has a great amount of sauce and the white steamed rice is very good the crab Rangoon is so so so good I also suggest the the sweet and sour chicken and the fried wantons the staff are nice and the building is clean

Yelp
Representing the security blanket in my restaurant repertoire, Chen's delivers decent food sans fancy ambiance. Whether your apartment just flooded or you've caught a mutant strain of the flu from a coworker, Chen's has the sweet and sour sauced remedy that is priced oh-so-deliciously. I recommend the general tso's with an order of crab rangoons with white rice, naturally. A meal at Chen's reminds me everything will be okay .

Yelp
My favorite Chinese food in the area. the only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because it doesn't compare to the chinese back in detroit. maybe that's not fair because that applies to pretty much every restaurant in Lansing. their bean curd is good as well is their lo mein. as far as im concerned their rangoons maybe some of the best i've ever eaten- that's with detroit included.

Christie M.

Yelp
So I'm not a "yelper" in fact i kind of hate yelp, BUT today my experience was so rude i feel compelled to warn others. Today i went to Chen's, a place i previously loved. I was feeling in the mood to try something new so i asked the waitress about the chow mein, she basically describes it the same way the menu does. If you google ANY photo of chow mein you're about to be real surprised about what i actually ended up with, its a total joke. Ok so the description of the item says mixed vegetables and crispy fried noodles. I ordered it with chicken. What i ended up with was a pile of sickly looking boiled chicken that's off color on a HEAP of onions and boiled cabbage with a couple thin slivers of carrots throught. No noodles. No rice. I get a sad bowl with maybe 20 won ton chips served on the side. Uh ok. I tell her this dish isn't how it was described, it doesn't taste good, and also there is a living fly flopping around in it. She tells me that I'm wrong. Points to the won ton chips and says that's their version of noodles. (What?! How?) and i tell her it taste bad too, she says you must pay for it if you order it. (She's not even trying to be polite, she's rolling her eyes and clearly mad and wants to force me to take this crap meal and eat it weather i like it or not) I explain it's not an accurate representation of what is described on the menu nor compared to what anything I've ever seen for chow mein looks like. Then i go back to the bug in the food that is STILL ALIVE. She tells me I'm lying, literally says there's no bug, and i will pay her. She's now lowered the price to half. I told her I'm not. She gets a man from the kitchen to come out and have him also tell me I'm going to pay for the food i didn't eat that has bugs in it. I told him no chance. He looks down at the bugs and i kid you not he said "well the bug came after the fact!" What does that even mean? Did he think he was going to convince me there's some sort of rule that i have to prove it dove in there in the kitchen rather than in the dining room as if it even matters how or when?! Or was the implication in somehow smuggled my own live flies into your indoor dining room just to throw at this $7 dish of food?! UNREAL. Eventually he just grabs it and walks away. SOOO what did we learn today? Don't eat at this shit hole.

Yelp
Fantastic portions when you eat in (as well as when you order take out), great flavors and very, very reasonable lunch specials (4-5 bucks for most of them). I eat here almost every week, and I have yet to be let down. I recommend the bean curd from the lunch menu, although its a bit spicy, so be careful! Did I mention the staff here super-friendly and helpful?
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
Barely Above average neighborhood Chinese. My 14 year old daughter loves the place. If you like general Tso then this place is for you. The other offerings aren't fantastic or terrible. The facility is worn and dated and round. Waitress never came to refill waters (no bar here). Lower your expectations for presentation and ambiance and order the General Tso or Orange chicken.
google avatar

Jessica J.

Yelp
My favorite go to Chinese food. I eat here at least once a week. If you're getting take out I would suggest eating it ASAP it gets a little soggy if you let it sit for too long. They could use some take out containers with vents. The kitchen could use some updating and deep cleaning. Also the back door of the restaurant could use a replacement there's holes in the screen and quite frankly a cardboard box window doesn't keep the bugs out. All in all the whole reason why people come here... the food... is pretty decent, lots of flavor!
google avatar

Asher M.

Yelp
I love Chen's. Fast, friendly, and best for take out. I hate eating there, during lunch it is packed, at night most people order take out. in fact, they know my family They have big portions, lots of meat and veg, and happen to be very affordable. My one big yank with Chen's is that their fried food (egg rolls, rangoons, etc) can be overly greasy, it is pretty hit and miss when you will get one that is fine.
google avatar

Dennis W.

Yelp
First time, last time. The generals chicken had an awkward taste. Fried rice was mushy with no flavor. How is it possible to buy a rice side at Meijer for 1.00 and it has a better flavor than fried rice from an Asian restaurant? We ordered takeout and picked it up ourselves. Wow I would never eat inside its filthy and looks to be decorated by picking up what others have thrown out... overall yuck

Yelp
So, I've lived in Lansing 1 year now and this is always where we order our Chinese food. It's the best in Lansing. What is good: pork fried rice, rangoons, sweet and sour chicken, sesame chicken, and more! Fast delivery.
google avatar

Dave C.

Yelp
The best Chinese food in Lansing, hands down. While getting pick-up and bringing it home is a treat for my wife and I, it's even better when you eat in. My two favorites are the chicken curry and the General Tso chicken.
google avatar

Samiha B.

Yelp
The General Tso Chicken is more like sweet and sour chicken. It will be red instead of brown and the chilli oil, if you like spicy, somehow is burned instead of tasty. The service however is very fast.
google avatar

Brian P.

Yelp
Above average Chinese food in Lansing and for the best price. Have never dined in only takeout.

Dparis A.

Yelp
Great food great price . No matter the time of day the food is always good. Never old and never late.
google avatar

Paige H.

Yelp
Was looking for a Chinese restaurant in Lansing. I read how great the reviews were for Chen's so I decided to order orange chicken and sweet and sour chicken. It was amazing! Not greasy at all. Great amount of chicken for both meals and it is very fresh. Highly recommend and would get again!!
google avatar

Jack L.

Yelp
Lunch was pretty inexpensive - but not great. I ordered kung pao chicken and it was a thick brown sauce with a few pieces of chicken. Mostly it was water chestnuts, huge green peppers and some baby corn. The price was right but the food wasn't great.
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
Chen's is your perfectly average americanized chinese food we all crave on a bad day. The decor is old/outdated, it is dark inside, you have to ask the server for napkins/straws (although they are all friendly!), and there are no real parking spots around the building - it's amazing. The food is all insanely cheap, and the portions surpassed all of my expectations. My friends ordered the sweet and sour chicken which just came with fried chicken piled high on a large plate, served with a huge bowl of artificially colored sauce. All in all, Chen's is your classic chinese restaurant with the mediocre food that we all love. Definitely split portions!
google avatar

Edwina R.

Yelp
I love this place for take out. There is very seldom a long wait and I love the way the food is prepared (very flavorful). Parking isn't so great but the food is worth it.
google avatar

Nora C.

Yelp
I got carryout here because of the good reviews. The wonton soup was very salty, yang chow fried rice had frozen vegetables in it... at least the boneless BBQ ribs were good. I was not that impressed.
google avatar

Angela M.

Yelp
It's okay. Food is pretty good. The place is clean and the staff is friendly. I'd eat there again but it's just not my first choice in the Lansing area.
google avatar

Jim M.

Yelp
Awesome Chinese food and priced good. Very good portions. I like everything I have tried. My favorite is the shrimp and chicken egg foo young and the happy family dish. There crab ragoon and egg rolls are delicious. The decor is very outdated, but if you can get past that, it's definitely worth the stop.
google avatar

Dan M.

Yelp
I don't eat Chinese, so this is for my wife. Before pregnancy she loved this place. Now, in the turbulent ocean of hormones Chen's is a life vest. Great service, decent price, wide selection of menu items, and it delivers. The only question is can I get it home fast enough.
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
For the price you pay this is by far the best chinese food in the Lansing area. Lunches that run between $4 and $5 and its tough to break $10 for dinner. If you like your food spicy make sure to ask for extra spicy! I eat here twice a month or more and recommend Chens to everyone!
google avatar

Edward W.

Yelp
I stopped for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised. The building was round, and looks like it was built in the 50s, but the food was amazing. I had the garlic chicken lunch portion. I'd hate to see the dinner portion because it was huge! Cheap too. I'm sure I'll be back.
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
Chen's is by far the best Chinese food in Lansing. Their prices and reasonable and their portions are terrific! I usually order a combination platter and its enough for lunch and dinner! Their sweet and sour chicken is absolutely heavenly and their crab Rangoon are killer! Their staff is super friendly, especially Jason, the owner, who greets us by name!!
google avatar

Mike A.

Yelp
Poor run of the mill food. I got the almond chicken. Chicken was way over cooked. Bent my fork trying to cut it. The lady came over and was touching my food with her bare hands. Like I'm gonna eat that after she did that. More like jerky or dog food. Stay away from this dirt hole.

Eva W.

Yelp
I wanted to try something new at Chen's. I read all the great reviews. I should have ordered the general tso from the reviews but I ordered beef and scallions (Mongolian). It was a heavy carry out dish so I anticipated a couple meals worth! I am sorely disappointed as it was full of sliced onions a few scallions and about 3oz of beef. I ate the beef and took the picture....all onions....yuck! Who would like this greasy mess?
google avatar

Rebecca G.

Yelp
After trying Chen's 5-6 times, trying something different each time, I have given up. I feel I've given it a fair shot, unfortunately, I won't be back. Thankfully, this isn't the only Chinese restaurant in Lansing.
google avatar

C C.

Yelp
Chen's food is pretty standard Chineese fare. I went with a group of 5 and we each ordered a different for about $8/dinner; and none were great, but no meals were sub-par. However, what was appreciated was that portions were very large, and we'd regretted not ordering half of what we did. Perhaps most interesting about Chen's is the ambiance: It operates inside a restored bank on the sketchier north side of Lansing, and the interesting architecture and bullet scars on the drive through window (for the old bank, not for the restaurant) make it an experience worth your time.
google avatar

Mary C.

Yelp
Ordered Szechuan chicken and spring rolls to go. Perfect spice and heat to my order. Good size portion, not too expensive either. Never ordered from Chen's before tonight, but I will go again.
google avatar

Sammi D.

Yelp
Very delicious food....I always get takeout it's cheaper, plus the atmosphere there isn't that good. Highly recommend! Best Chinese take-out in town!
google avatar

Roberto T.

Yelp
Great food at a good price! Lunch specials are generous and the staff is friendly. The only place to get the Best Chinese by far!
google avatar

daphne r.

Yelp
Love everything I've tried. Not your typical Chinese- traditional American Chinese dishes but done WELL. Highly recommend the General Tso's, crab rangoons and the special wonton soup for two!
google avatar

Ryan B.

Yelp
Chen's is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant in town! They are willing to make substitutions, so you can customize you meal to your exact liking.

Jim E.

Yelp
Best Chinese food in the area. Huge portions and delicious. Usually get as takeout and they usually are pretty quick about making it. Always friendly when I pick it up.
