Yelp
Hands down the BEST Indian grocery store in the USA! It's HUGE w/ tons of variety for all of you Indian foodies out there! I've been going to Cherians for the past +15 years and it's still the best in regards to cleanliness, organization and variety. They recently renovated and expanded their store.
I also shop at Patel Brothers down the street, but found that it's too cluttered, disorganized and just not as hygenic or clean as Cherians. And Cherians has twice the selection, variety and is slightly cheaper. Because Cherians is larger, their aisles are wider so there's less congestion, which makes shopping there a delight. There are also many workers (mainly hispanic), but they know their products and can show you exactly where to find what you need. The store owners are always found at the front of the store man-handling the check-out area. I like that they are still very hands-on with their store, despite the huge success.
Cleanliness:
What I love about this place is that every time I visit, there is always someone mopping, sweeping, wiping down, cleaning something. Being a healthcare provider, this makes me happy! Knowing that they make sanitation a top priority is a huge plus, especially for an Indian store.
Food Selection:
I love their frozen food section. They have an amazing selection of frozen samosas, naan, parathas, desserts! it's endless! Their spice selection is unmatched! I used to go to Dekalb Famer's Market for my spices, I still do, but they don't have a good variety of Indian spices like Cherians. Dekalb Farmer's Market also doesn't have a good variety of the many Indian flours or dal...like moong dal. They have a good fresh produce area with many southern/northern Indian vegetables, peppers, curry leaves for cheap!
Cafe:
They also have a small Indian food cafe at the front of the store with freshly made South Indian snacks. You MUST TRY their freshly made plantain chips...the best I've EVER had!
They're so good, cooked perfectly and fresh. They sell it by the pound.
Parking:
It's located up a hill with a large sign that reads Cherians. The building is huge, but can be hard to miss b/c it's not along the street. Once you drive up the hill, you will find ample parking.
Overall: this is the best Indian grocery store in Atl, a staple among the Indian community and a must for all foodies! If I ever have to move away from the perimeter, I'll deeply miss this place and Dekalb Farmer's Market.
