Best Restaurants in Stone Mountain, Georgia | Eater Atlanta

"It may be located inside a historic 1895 building, but Cherokee Rose is known for its modern take on barbecue. Restaurateur and Stone Mountain native Jonathan Hartnett opened the place in 2021, and here, every Monday night is steak night, which means it’s first come, first serve on specialty cuts like smoked prime rib or hand-peeled hanger steak. On other days of the week, try out the chargrilled or smoke-fried chicken with house barbecue sauce and one of the many specialty cocktails." - Olivia Harrison

We had fried okra for appetizer. I had the fried catfish with mashed potatoes and beefsteak tomatoes. I should have ordered greenbeans. My friend had prime rib with green beans. I had deliciouse chocolate pecan pue and she had lemon cake for dessert. Food was delicious and so reasonable for the exceptional quality. Our server Ann was on top of everything and she provided amazing recommendations! The live musical entertainment with soft sounds of the 70s and 80s completed the ambiance! Can't wait to dine again!

We had been wanting to try this place for a while and went last weekend. We had a nice time- but the service was painstakingly slow. Our server was so incredibly nice, but just took forever to get our drinks, then our order, then our food, then our check! (That’s the only reason I couldn’t give a five star). The food was delicious. I enjoyed the seafood over ravioli and my husband was pleased with his ribeye. The drinks they offer are interesting and while I dared not try, my husband tried the blue cheese and Tito drink as well as the whisky drink with egg whites… not my jam but he liked both! Overall- a great experience and we would go back!

Google
Service and atmosphere are excellent! The food is really good, but the last time we visited the food was exceptional. In particular, the vegetables were disappointing with the exception that the fried okra is incredibly delicious. We ordered prime rib and scallops. Michael provided excellent service and company.

Google
This is a nice little hidden gem in Stone Mountain; we only had drinks and two appetizers. I will definitely go back to try more food. The wings are really good and the crawfish cake was a little different for me but it was good. The bartender was super nice! I recommend, definitely!

If you're searching for soul-satisfying comfort food that delivers on flavor and tenderness, look no further. From the moment the plates hit the table, it’s clear this place takes pride in doing their dishes right. Mia was our server she was very attentive and provided great service. Let’s start with the fall-off-the-bone ribs—a true standout. Slow-cooked to perfection, they’re incredibly tender, with a rich, smoky flavor and just the right amount of caramelized barbecue glaze. Right alongside them we ordered the buttermilk fried chicken, a golden masterpiece. Moist and juicy on the inside with a perfectly crisp crust, it’s seasoned just right. The whipped mashed potatoes are silky smooth, buttery, and light, while the green beans are fresh, snappy, and sautéed just enough to retain their bright flavor. But the real surprise? The jalapeño cheddar corn pudding—a creamy, cheesy delicious accompaniment. Leave room for dessert you won’t want to trying the peanut butter pie. It's rich, silky, and indulgent—with a perfect balance of sweet and salty.

Service was good. We came at a very busy time, but it was worth the wait. Food was great! Atmosphere was friendly, hospitable, joyous and fun. Music was awesome!! Thanks! I will be back. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Google
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I can’t say enough good things about Cherokee Rose BBQ, Bar and Kitchen! From the moment I walked in, it was a five-star experience all around. The servers were incredibly attentive and friendly, making me feel right at home. The food? Absolutely phenomenal! Each dish is bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. And let’s not forget about the bartenders (Ammanuel and Megan)! They crafted some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had—each one was a delightful masterpiece and the bourbon selection, don’t get me started! If you’re looking for a place with amazing food, top-notch service, and delicious drinks, look no further! Cherokee Rose is a must-visit and return time and time again! Remember, this is a top-notch restaurant if your servers bartenders appropriately.

Google
Cherokee Rose is a true gem. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in—the kind of place where the bartenders and owners feel like old friends. I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon for drinks and an appetizer and ended up staying longer than planned. The blackberry Manhattan was perfectly balanced, and the charcuterie board was just what I needed to complement it. As the evening settled in, live music began, covering everything from soul to soft rock—adding to the charm without overpowering the vibe. It’s the perfect spot to people watch, share great conversation, and feel genuinely connected. I’ll definitely be back.

Yelp
We stumbled to Cherokee Rose after a bike ride into Stone Mountain village from Atlanta; Not as far as you think taking the Stone Mountain path trail. We walked in around noon and were seated right away. A few of us ordered drinks but I stuck to coffee to power me through on the way back. I ordered the bbq sandwich biscuit which comes with a side salad. I thought it was great. The salad was nice so it wasn't too much of a heavy meal. There was live music so the atmosphere was quite inviting. I would definitely recommend it.

Yelp
As some of the previous Yelpers mentioned this place is a little pricey. For me the food was just ok. I would not rush back but if I am in the area I might stop by and try a different menu item. Upon arrival we were immediately greeted and sat quickly. The waiter was pleasant and he had a great warm smile. He made some recommendations since this was our first time. He did come and check on us and another worker came to check as well. The food came out quickly and the chicken was super hot!!! The sides were warm at best. The mushrooms and the potatoes were enjoyable. I think if they were a little hotter it would have tasted better. The portions were shareable for the most part, I was able to taste both types of chicken. The fried chicken could have used more seasoning but all in all it was edible. I did not opt in for desert but if I do go back I will try the peach cheesecake.

Yelp
#BirthdayRecap Mae & I visited @cherokeerosebbqbarkitchen located in Stone Mountain. We performed our own lil photo shoot before entering. Once inside, we were seated by the host and greeted by our waiter, Michael. We informed Michael that it was my birthday and he mentioned the chefs special, not on the menu "creamy pasta served with chargrilled chicken & shrimp. Having eaten chargrilled chicken recently I knew it would SLAP in a pasta (why didn't I think of this myself.) Anyways, I don't normally order the same as my guest because my only requirement as my dinner date is: 'you must be willing to share your food with me' lol, but fr We started with crispy buttermilk okra. This is whole okra and not your Granny's recipe. The 'last word' was ok but it only took one and I wanted the last word with everyone Also, I couldn't feel my legs so one was enough for me lol The sweet tea was delicious. The tea to sweetness ratio was perfect! We had 2-3 glasses EACH The lemon sponge cake was the perfect choice to top off my birthday celebration while Mae sang Happy Birthday to me. I visited Cherokee Rose BBQ Bar last month for our company's holiday party and made a mental note to check them out during regular hours. They did not disappoint! I'm going back for my second birthday, next week

Yelp
We went to Cherokee Rose after spending time at Stone Mountain. We went on a Wednesday, which they refer to as "wine down Wednesday", offering a few dollars off bottles of wine. We started off with a cocktail each, and both were delicious! Mine was a fun take on a French 75. For food we got the calamari. It was perfectly seasoned and had the perfect combination of crunch with a tender inside. For meals we had the tenderloin and a rack of ribs. Everything was phenomenal. While the food was fantastic and the service was even better. Emmanuel was wonderful and his customer service was unmatched. He was attentive, patient, and had a wonderful sense of humor. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Had a great dinner here! Sat at the bar and really enjoyed the excellent service and meals. It was my first time here and I will be back!

Yelp
Nice space, live pianist playing during our lunch. We ate on a Saturday and there were only brunch items but everything was good. App was great. Great service, Enjoyed it.

Yelp
We just discovered this restaurant today and the atmosphere, service, and food quality are all great! I tried the crawfish Egg Benedict, the coating had a mild spiciness and was very tasty. The bloody Mary's were great as well. We will be back!

Yelp
Cool little restaurant with a awesome bar in Stone Mountain. Great food, service can be slow, but the food is worth it!!

Yelp
My wallet is thankful that CR is an hour from home cuz I'd be here all the time! Such a beautiful, historic, open venue space with great vibes, live jazz for Saturday brunch and ridiculously good food. My wife's frittata was fluffy, monstrous and as wide as a frisbee and my portion of pork hash was not only sizable, but chock full of smoked meat goodness. The craft draft beer selection is good, but the canned selection is even better/more diverse. Try this place and get ready to come back again.

Yelp
Love this place! Posted up in old downtown Stone Mountain. The Ambiance is a chill upscale restaurant and bar. The service is always courteous and fast. There was phenomenal live music the Saturday we went and I think that's the norm on Saturdays and Fridays as well. The drinks are really good and they have some excellent IPAs. Our group of eight had a reservation and I recommend you do to if it's a Friday, Saturday or Sunday regardless of the size of your party. I hear they also do brunch on Saturday and Sunday so I'll need to check that out as well. Our party tried several apps and dishes. All were delicious, no complaints. Will definitely return and highly recommend!!

Yelp
I have to update my review since my initial visit. I have come several times and each time has been better than the last. It's consistently delicious and immaculately seasoned. From the standard menu items to even the specials, I've yet to be disappointed since my initial visit. Thank you for consistency in flavors. Most often I frequent the bar and the bartenders are so welcoming and friendly. The drinks are delicious and expertly crafted. It feels like such a neighborhood place that people love and care for. The crawfish cake is still my favorite but I also love the fried okra, beef short rib, fried catfish, fried okra, fisherman's stew... the list goes on. The brunch is amazing as well! Try the waffles. My new favorite restaurant.

Libby T.

Yelp
The food was really good, great ambience and friendly staff. The wait (even with a reservation) was very long and the food was a bit delayed but overall we had a good time and enjoyed the experience!

Yelp
I've always wanted to try this place but was unsure what they offered but was told it was good which only doubled my interest. I finally checked in and see it's BBQ and now I'm invested to try. When on a Sunday brunch idea and they have a brick outside, Wolfe and leather outside with a man at the piano singing live music. Elevated casual is the scene here. Full bar and seating at the bar. TVs to watch anything that might be going on. You can tell there is absolutely intentional choices in everything about this place. But the food (brunch): Started with the shrimp and calamari. Both definitely good but the calamari was definitely return worthy. I tried my sons cat fish (wish I'm normally not a fan) and it was good. It came with the grits. My other family got chicken and waffles with syrup. I got the Eggs Benedict. The biscuit was hard and so was the waffles. Kinda like they where good but sat in the heater to long. But for the staff to be so nice. The drinks to be so good. The style. I would be back.

Monica T.

Yelp
Okay here it gooooooes! Ryan the GM really Knocked this out of the park. We had the steak and eggs and the bread pudding with pecan smoked bacon. Let me start with the biscuit. Light. Fluffy. Not greasy. Perfect cat heads of love. The steak was smoked and oh my just perfect. Much like a dry aged steak. Eggs. Say no more. Perfect scramble similar to the French style. Bacon bacon bacon. Pecan smoked and perfectly cooked not too crispy and bendable. The grits have my heart. Creamy. With a little cayenne kick to keep you guessing. Bread pudding as it is meant to be. Firm and decadent. Balance of sweetness is what you dream about a bread pudding. The amaretto sour was a classic with whipped egg whites and amarena cherry. Shout out to the staff for execution and consistency!

Yelp
We tried this for my Mom's 60th birthday for brunch. There was a nice gentleman playing the clarinet with some nice background music. We made reservations again, so we were seated in a timely manner. Everyone ordered different plates but we all agreed the food was delicious. I had the fish and grits, it was very good. The little Cajun sauce that came with it made the whole dish for sure. My Dad got the chicken and waffles, thankfully he shared because WOW! So so good. We'll definitely be back to try dinner sometime!

Marie W.

Yelp
One word. PHENOMENAL!!! Never knew this place existed but my friend and I gave it a try a few weeks ago. The ribeye was divine! Service was excellent! My only complaint is we were made to sit at the bar instead of a table. We were originally going to go to Sweet Potato cafe so I was not dressed for this type of restaurant but if that is the reason for the bar seating then the food made up for it!! Will definitely be back dressed in nicer attire!

Yelp
Wow, Stone Mountain has a vibe since I've been back in many years. Cherokee Rose is packed for brunch on Sunday. Crab cakes are so last decade with their crawfish cake which is delectable. Excellent small menu. This place is no secret, great food, ambience, very friendly service :-)
google avatar

Yelp
Cherokee Rose has an Upscale ambiance. The servers and bartenders were attentive and communicative, smiling, ensuring customer satisfaction. Overall, my experience was extraordinary. I ordered the chargrilled chicken with a side of asparagus and a salad. And cocktail shrimp for an appetizer. Delectable, to say the least. Great place for groups, dates, and solo diners.

Yelp
I visited Cherokee Rose Jan 27, 2024 and ate the Smoked Chicken Spread with hot sauce. This was my second time visiting the establishment in recent months, when I visited previously I ordered the same thing and enjoyed it. My score of only 1 star is because I got food poisoning and developed symptoms approximately three hours after consuming the meal. I knew it was from the dish as that was the only thing I ate that day and fell ill not long after. The next day at my concerned friend's request, I went to Piedmont Urgent Care; there I diagnosed me with food poisoning. The first day I had a myriad of symptoms and felt like I was going to faint and diarrhea that lasted for 4 days. I called the restaurant the following week once I felt better and was told the caterer would call me the next day -- I did not get a call. After four days I called again and left a message with the lady who answered; shortly after I was contacted by the owner. The owner was non-apologetic, defensive and blamed my illness on another establishment that I did not even eat at. There was no offer of crediting my purchase, willingness to help in any way or accountability that his staff may have used unsanitary practices to handle the food. For this reason I will never return to Cherokee Rose as I would like to leave as healthy as I did prior and if you are considering dining here I would think twice.

Connor G.

Yelp
You've got to go here. This place had the best vibes, food, and service. Best chicken and waffles I've had and my girlfriend had the best French Bread Pudding. One to save in my book of Atlanta/Stone Mountain restaurants.

Yelp
I absolutely love this place! The feel & ambiance of this place is so inviting, the staff is welcoming, accommodating and very attentive to checking back with you to make sure you're well taken care of. The food by itself is top notch. The redfish is amazing and I have yet to receive a steak that hasn't been near perfect in its temp. Truly delicious! I trusted them all so much that I held my wedding here with close to 60 people while they still hosted full service to the rest of the restaurant and it went off without a hitch! Can not recommend this place more. I never, ever leave reviews but I felt very compelled in this specific instance! :)

Yelp
Man........this place is good! I was astounded at the combination of quality and creativity with the lunch menu price point. For what you'd spend at fast food, you'd get a fantastic meal here. I had the pork BBQ sandwich with fries for lunch. The fries are essentially half of a potato in wedges well seasoned. The pork BBQ sandwich was done perfectly with the right amount of sauce to meat and full of flavor.

Yelp
Food drinks and ambiance are good. It's a historic building and it's really cool. Nice addition to the area we need more like it. It's a must stop by if you're in the area.
google avatar

Marylouise A.

Yelp
Our group only went here because of the Art Station's show. I recommend just having appetizers and enjoy the music on selected nights. I had the salad because the entrees are too large for me. Sharing would be an option. Nothing special about the salad that had sliced grills chicken, which was just ok. One guest had the seafood stew, which she enjoyed. Another guest had only the sides. She enjoyed the coleslaw, but not the beans. A lady next to us had the short ribs, which was huge. Anyway, probably not going back.

Angela H.

Yelp
Good food and atmosphere . I enjoy the brunch menu and the entertainment gives it an upscale vibe. Makes downtown Stn Mtn even more special.

Yelp
Ryan was our server and he's great! Food was perfectly cooked and nice and fresh! Very chill and relaxed vibe, super clean and cozy restaurant

Mesha J.

Yelp
12/22/23 was my first time visiting Cherokee Rose- I honestly won't be back. Everyone has their own opinion and I was truly hoping for a better experience because of all the great reviews. The restaurant is beautiful inside decor as well as outside. The food I didn't too much enjoy I ordered a salad and fried chicken dinner with two sides, let's just say that it wasn't the best at all and I'm extremely sick. The fried chicken wasn't cooked all the way through once we brought it to the managers attention, there was no apology, no acknowledgment of the undercooked chicken. Our waitress (whose name I will not disclose) seemed as if she worked hard that day and was just tired and annoyed when it was time for her to wait our table. We did arrive around 8pm. That still doesn't give an excuse for poor service and poor food quality. This is just my experience!!highly disappointed.

Dorsey D.

Yelp
Good neighborhood eatery for solid supper. Generous portions of a variety of designer Southern recipes Live music on weekends Good service. Homey touch

Yelp
We went to Cherokee Rose to celebrate a 50th birthday. Even though I didn't take pictures of everything, I absolutely loved okra, hummus and shrimp cocktail as appetizers. My main course was the red fish with creamed greens and mushrooms for my sides. Micheal was our server. He was very attentive and made great recommendations. The restaurant was clean and we were in the private room.

Sam S.

Yelp
I had a great time at the restaurant. The trout dish was delicious, and the staff were really friendly.

Ed S.

Yelp
Cool spot Nice ambiance amazing service... now let's start with the food. crawfish cake with Romalade..... drop mic review over .... If I ended here with just the app it would still be 5 stars. But. Amazing draft local beers... and great pulled pork and the review stays 5 stars. Then even though I had no space left I tried the cranberry bread pudding.... Ok I have to find something wrong.... It could have used more rum sauce!! Great surprise in the heart of Stone Mountain!!!

Yelp
Great lunch! Delicious catfish sandwich and dessert! It was the best fried catfish I have ever eaten. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
I have been here many times, but just had to say we love this place and look forward to going there each time we go! I was there last night with a friend and the food was delicious. Thanks to Jonathan for such a wonderful and beautiful restaurant in our area! Happy 2nd anniversary Cherokee Rose!

B V.

Yelp
Had the Ribeye and was very disappointed. Very chewy, rubbery piece of meat. The Ribeye had a very strong bitter and burnt flavor . Overpriced and a ripped off. This was definitely not a $40.00 piece of Ribeye.

Dana G.

Yelp
Excellent!! I only have pics of the appetizers, but everything was very well-prepared and tasty. Highly recommend the following: Crawfish Cake - very meaty! Fried okra - very crispy and flavorful Trout - simple and yummy, especially with a squeeze of lemon Fisherman's Stew - AMAZING! (A little spicy, which only adds to the awesomeness) Chocolate pecan pie - enough said Great date night spot. Live music Sports on the tv at the bar.
google avatar

Denise B.

Yelp
The ambiance is great. I typically sit at the bar where the bartenders are A-Mazing. Two of them are my absolute favorite bartenders. I wish I could remember names: one recognized my voice over the phone when I called about the hours and the other is sooo freaking personable and attentive even after working super long shifts to cover for others. I visit for the dinner menu and order almost the same thing every time: blackened redfish, rosemary sweet corn and fried okra. For the win, I order two mia palomitas!

Melanie G.

Yelp
Once again amazing food. Even better service. Michael is the best waiter we've ever had at any restaurant. The ambiance here with the live music, historic building, excellent menu, top notch service makes this place one of our regular stops !
google avatar

Danny D.

Yelp
A wonderful place to eat, drink and meet friendly staff, friends, neighbors and family .

Yelp
Great place and excellent service. Catfish was %, Ribs, mussels and wedge salad also great. Desserts and cocktails were well prepared. Gets busy. Reservations recommended.

Yelp
Loved everything about this place...returning this weekend! Great food, amazing service, and such a lovely atmosphere.

Kevin W.

Yelp
I like this spot in Stone Mountain Village. They're a little pricey so that's why the 4 stars. But staff is cool and food is pretty good.

Serafina S.

Yelp
Five stars isn't enough! I would give them 20 stars! Had reservations with my husband and two children for New Year's Eve and they were quickly accommodated. Beautiful menu with choices for everyone! The cocktail menu was out of this world! our appet and entrees were beyond our expectations! EVERYTHING was a "WOW! That is amazing!" Beautiful. uilding, gorgeous, elegant interior, fan live music that wasn't so loud you couldn't talk and scrumptious food. Absolutely lovely!
google avatar

Jake M.

Yelp
Don't just come here for the great food, but come because they have great food and spectacular customer service. Michael was our server and he was polite, attentive, and he gave us great recommendations. I got the catfish sandwich which was one of the best fish sandwiches I've ever had. Fried okra and crawfish cakes were both 10/10, but Michael's service made this experience a 12/10 -Extremely satisfied customer

Regi B.

Yelp
Cherokee Rose is a great neighborhood establishment. The service is great, the ambiance is great, and the food is outstanding. Our server, Michael, is the best. He even Sung happy birthday to my mom at her surprise party we hosted there. Highly recommended. You'll thoroughly enjoy yourself.
google avatar

Yelp
Expensive, nice, went once -- probably not in rotation for places to eat. Stone Mountain Village is always a nice place to visit.
google avatar

Lena T.

Yelp
Oh my gosh. Where do I even start? Cherokee Rose is such a great spot in Downtown Stone Mountain. They have live music and enthusiastic servers. Every single thing we ordered was delicious. The shrimp, wings, meatloaf, the steak, the parsnip potato puree, mushrooms. I could go on and on. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Who knew you'd find such elevated but reachable dining in downtown Stone Mountain. 2nd time here after stumbling across it for brunch a while back so came back to try dinner on a Saturday night. We we were lucky and were able to grab the last reservation. Restaurant is housed in a old brick building and they've done a good job of updating while maintaining its rustic appeal. I'm a fan of fried Okra now because of Cherokee Rose. Flash fried split whole lengthwise with a buttermilk base dip. Scrumptious! Meatloaf is pork and beef with a bbq sauce and is juicy with just enough of bread crumbs so it's not too thick and not too little we're it falls apart. Blackened Redfish was to die for and a very underserved dish in Atlanta. We both had the hash brown patty and the oxtail collard greens. Place can get a little loud when they have live music because that just happens in a brick building with high ceilings, but you didn't have to shout to hear your dinner companions. Hopefully more restaurants will join this area because downtown Stone Mountain has so much potential and this restaurant is a great start. I did see a couple of other places like a coffee shop, pizza joint and a brewery so will definitely be back to this restaurant and will venture back to try some others.

Chris P.

Yelp
I have been looking for a higher end dining/bar experience closer to Lilburn, I don't want to drive to Buckhead. Cherokee Rose was a great find for me last week. Kevin at the bar was fantastic and very knowledgeable, he suggested Old Soul Bourbon and it was a great choice. For a "BBQ" joint, the menu is very high end. I went with the pork tenderloin and it was a winner. Great flavor, well prepared and large portion. I liked the diverse group of people the night I was there. It is nice to see all different backgrounds enjoying a drink and meal together. Cherokee Rose is now my "go to" place.

Brenda M.

Yelp
Haven't eaten at this restaurant lately (since last September) but my first two or three visits were wonderful and then me and my guests hit a brick wall. Fried chicken was substituted for fried fish. The so-called pulled pork was awful. About the only items that I will recommend are the calamari and the hot pimento cheese spread with chicken. My relatives made a reservation on 12-31-23. They had drinks and appetizers and then they were told that they did not have the entrees they wanted. They were given credit for a portion of the drinks but this is no way to encourage business. I have other examples but this should be sufficient to warrant the 2 star rating.

Joy C.

Yelp
Waitstaff is amazing and the best food! Also they have a private dining room especially for private parties and events.
