Cherry Blossom Bakery

(updated 11/2023) I am changing my 3-star rating to a 4-star one after revisiting this bakery after about five years. The quality and taste of the food has improved much. Prices are still reasonable. I really like the finger-sized banana rolls. They have just the right sweetness, and are perfect snacks during the day. I also like the cream buns. Egg tarts are good as usual. The cream horns are good too. But it's very tricky--you could see the cream on both ends of the horn, yet it's hollow in the middle. So I would not recommend the cream horn. The store is clean and brightly lit. Although courteous, the staff are unfortunately less friendly than before. (2018) Friendly staff, clean seatings (a few tables), and reasonable prices. Pastries are fresh, but taste is average.

I sadly didn't have the time to spend too much time, and only had one item a Fried Pork Scallion Bun on that trip in December 2024. However it was a very tasty and satisfying little bun with a flavor with the sesame, scallion and pork with a nice doughy texture. Employees were very alert to know what you'd like to order in terms of delivery time. For first time visitors please remember they are cash only ahead of time before visiting, but they are priced pretty reasonable for a bakery in SF. I would give a higher score had I had an extended stay.

Probably the best egg custard tarts in San Francisco. All the other pastries are fresh and delicious as well. I highly recommend their pineapple buns, bbq pork buns and the savory ham and scallion buns.

The best EGG TARTS (DAN TAT) we’ve had!!! It was in the glass box on top of the counter but tell me why they were still warm and super fresh. The custard was silky smooth, not too sweet. The crust had a crunch. Seriously so good. We got the small hot dog buns too. Check this place out!!!

If youre a hk kid or grew up in a canto family, this bakery tastes like your childhood. So many classic and nostalgic flavors.

Stopped by here on the way back to the car and didn't disappoint. It is a small bakery with quite a lot of bread and pastries to choose. They are good and cheap !

The mini buns (pineapple, red beans, hot dog!, BBQ pork) are the best. Love coming here for mix & match mini buns and a coffee. Especially nice to sit at the front window on a rainy day for city vibes. FYI cash only

The pastries here are delicious! We always get the cocktail buns, and I personally love the barbecue pork buns. The only issue with this place is the service. The staff are not very nice. It doesn't matter if you speak Cantonese or not. The second-to-last time I came here, one of the staff members threw my friend's change towards her (on the counter) in a very aggressive, rude manner. It was honestly more funny than angering, haha. That same day, they seemed to be annoyed at all the customers, especially since someone ordered a ton of pastries but didn't have cash. (I believe this place is still cash-only.) If you can muster up the courage to go in and order a few things, highly recommend you check it out :)

i was looking for places that were operational on christmas day, and this place came in clutch. bonus points just for being open lol. got the pineapple bun, the ham and cheese one, and a bbq pork bun- all p solid. cash only establishment. small space, no seats. the ladies working on the day were moving the line quickly. 10/10 would go again!

When making a trip to San Francisco, no visit is complete without visiting an authentic family owned-and-operated bakery. This takes me to "Cherry Blossom Bakery", a staple in the Inner Richmond neighborhood of San Francisco. From my knowledge, this is their original location while their newer spot opened around 2016 off of Ocean Ave in the Ingleside neighborhood. Going back to this spot, they are situated directly on Clement St. and tucked in between 9th & 10th Ave. If you decide on driving here, parking can be a challenge so it is best to arrive by rideshare as well as Muni buses that drop you off nearby. The hours of operation are quite generous as they are open 7 days a week from 6am-6:30pm which are very respectable times to get your savory sweets during sunrise or possibly a late-afternoon snack before the evening hours kick in. Keep in mind that this is a cash ONLY business so make sure you bring those $1's, $5's, and other bills when paying the cashier. I also wanted to add that there is no indoor seating here. The bakery itself is small but well lit and at any given time, you will see a ton of savory baked goods. What makes this place special is that much of their dough-filled treats are loaded with a ton of protein-packed foods including chicken, pork, beef, and other various fillings. Some of the more popular rolls include BBQ Pork Rolls, Durian (fruit filled) Rolls, Chicken Pies, Wrapped Hot Dogs, and much more. And as for the baked goods, you can find just about anything and everything including cupcakes, croissants, cakes, cookies, moon cakes, egg tarts, and much more. I've eaten at quite a bit of bakeries in San Francisco and the Bay Area for that matter. This place might be small but there's a BIG variety of options here. The sweet ladies that work behind the counter were friendly, attentive and patient as my lady and I decided to take a bag filled with treats on our drive home (which is in Sacramento). We ate an egg tart that same day while enjoying the fresh baked croissant the following day for breakfast. We also tried one of their Cream Rolls and a Mini Custard Bun; all at very reasonable prices. All in all, "Cherry Blossom Bakery" is a must try and excellent small business worth checking out. Great hours of operation, excellent prices, and very succulent treats. My Yelp rating, a unanimous five stars.

Cherry Blossom is in our regular rotation of SF takeout dim sum/Chinese pastry spots - we like them best for their baked buns. It was a bit intimidating ordering for the first time when I came in, but it's pretty easy to point and choose items. We regularly get the baked pork buns, curry puff (super flaky pastry) and pineapple buns. So good! In my dad's words as an SF native: "Wing Lee - Dai Bao (steam big chicken bun) Cherry Blossom (any baked bao) Good luck (best everything else)"

Got 1/4 cake, mixed fruit, a request. It turned out beautiful with all the Mango slivers as the border. There were cantaloupe and strawberries with whipped cream. I enjoyed it. Kids only ate the fruits. Funny.

Omg these egg tarts are soooo good! The crust is light and flaky and the filling is soft and creamy! Workers are so fast and efficient! It's quick grab and go place, and they have so many other things in there, not to mention durian cake! Yummmmm

I stopped by here to grab some Chinese pastries and HK style milk tea because my 2 hr wait at the Chinese Embassy for my visa pick up. This place opened at 6am!!! I got an onion bun, ham and egg bun, sponge cake, hot dog bun, chicken pie, 3 mini BBQ pork buns and a HK style milk tea. All that cost ~ $18. The buns were perfectly soft and the slight sweetness was perfect. I really enjoyed the bun. They were exactly what I was expecting. The pie crust was flaky, but the filling was OK. The milk tea was perfect. I loved that they have the mini buns - BBQ pork, hot dog or red bean pineapple. The lady at the counter was quick and friendly. I live in the East Bay, but definitely would be buying from there if I'm in the area again. Highly recommended for fresh Chinese bread and pastries.

Ordered a fruit cake for pick up. It was SO delicious, and reasonably priced. Called over the phone to place order but not exactly modernized with order# or confirmation codes so I just trusted the process lol and hoped it was ready for that day. And it was! Everyone enjoyed the cake and loved that "it's not too sweet"

My favorite Asian bakery in Inner Richmond! This place was always my go to for egg tarts and other buns. Their egg tart had the perfect consistency. It also has a great balance between sweet and eggy. The crust is a flaky crust, no the solid crumbly crust. No need to go all the way to Chinatown for good egg tarts! They also have solid pineapple buns and pork buns. Everyone is nice there too! It can be intimidating when everyone mostly speaks Chinese. They're really sweet and fast.

Egg tart - custard good, like a default taste, crust could be flakier. Cream filled bun - good, cream is creamy enough.

Love the lemon cake roll!!! The amount of lemon filling that it has is the best! They don't skimp! There used to be one bakery on Geary by 23rd on the corner that didn't skimp but they closed. This place is the closest I found to that one.

Ordered a cake for my mom's birthday. Upon opening the cake ...it was disappointing. The cake looked like someone rushed to get it out. Sloppy and the writing..... let's just say I should've just opted out from having them write it. Egh

Honestly great, reasonably priced bakery and reminds me of the buns I've had growing up. Their fresh bread in the morning is great, really warm, soft, and airy. My favorites are the pork floss and pineapple custard bun (the mini ones come in 3s and are a perfect snack size!) They have a huge variety to try and I also like the roast pork bun, corn & ham bun, hot dog bao, and egg tart. Would definitely recommend!

Cash only! Yummy looking pastries. I had an egg and ham bun. Love the steamed egg and the sweet bun. The beef curry buns are good too. More recently my friend asked me to pick up a sponge cake from here. The mango mousse cake was SO pretty and so delicious! I love Chinese cakes because they're not too sweet, they're moist, and they are so light that it makes you feel less guilty. :) I went around 11 on a Saturday and got lucky because there was no line. They had 2 cakes in the fridge, and the lady working recommended mango over strawberry. But I bet strawberry is good too! You can also preorder, but it's nice they have a couple of cakes to choose from that you can just pick up that day. I think it was $36. Everyone loved it. I highly recommend this place for savory or for sweet treats.

My buddy lives near here so I get a chance to pick up goodies when I visit. They open pretty early in the morning so it's good to pick up breakfast on the go. Their egg tarts are excellent, especially when they are still warm straight out of the oven. I also like their mini pork buns. Very tasty, the amount of filling to dough ratio is good. Less chunks of fat than a lot of other places. Prices are great. There are cakes and other interesting filled breads that I am working through to try out.

We came here on the weekend to grab some treats. It was really cozy inside and there was a bit of a line line, but the ladies were very efficient with taking orders. Since it's nearing the autumn moon festival, there were a lot of moon cakes for sale! They had several flavors, but I didn't end up getting one. I ended up getting a onion bun and a barbecue pork pastry. They were both so tasty and reasonably priced. There were a couple tables inside, but it was a little crammed so I wouldn't count on there being seating. Definitely will be stopping by to grab some more pastries when I'm back in the area!

Today we went for a mango mousse, bad experience because it was not that at all. We got a cake filled with whipped cream decorated with mango slices. $36 for whipped cream cake is absurd. I do not recommend this place.

Born and raised SF, lived here for 30+ years and I have to say they've got one of the best, if not the best char siu bao (bbq pork bun) in the city. Their raisin buns are pretty tasty too.

I have enjoyed pineapple buns from Cherry Blossom on Ocean Ave for years - moist and delicious. This is the first time I bought some for myself but at the Clement location - the buns were neither. I am very disappointed and will never come here again. Next time I'm in the area, I will go to Golden Chariot Bakery. I gave two stars because the location at Ocean seems to be so much better and/or at least they don't sell dry, older bread. Updated: seems that only one was dry - the rest were better, up to a 4.

Solid Chinese bakery. They have a huge variety and they're always fresh. My kids favorite are their hot dog buns, pinneapple bun (with and without custard), egg tarts, cocktail buns, bbq pork buns and cake cups. They also have hong kong milk tea. Parking can be a bit tricky though, especially on the weekends.

Prices were great and there was such a variety of options for both meat eaters and not, and savory or sweet. Everything was so tasty and this bakery is def worth a visit

Visited on a Sunday evening for some egg tarts. There was still a full platter of egg tarts when I got there at 4:30 PM, I had Lung Fung for egg tarts a few weeks back and saw pictures of some good looking egg tarts and wanted to try something new. Well, steer clear... No wonder they still had hella at 4:30 PM. EGG TART - filling was silky and good consistent, BUT lacked flavor... The crust was also a letdown. Not crispy or flakey at all. Very stale and overall, just a bad egg tart. I threw it away after 2 bites (,: Forget this place. I'm only going to Lung Fung from now on.

Absolutely lifesavers as they saved me! Had to get a cake for Mom's birthday and they were soooo helpful and flexible. Helped me out by being so accommodating considering all the different changes, I needed for my cake order. 3 times, I was calling to make changes and even at the last minute! Didn't know that they have two locations, one at Clement and the other on Ocean Avenue. See pictures of the cake below. Love the Clement Street Location as just a bit off of the busy part of Clement Street, and always have parking!

An ok-cantonese bakery. Nothing fancy, just standard and priced reasonable, and consistent in quality.

I was in the area around 5 PM today, I was thinking of getting some baked pork buns and scallion buns. Went to Lung Fung but they ran out of those. I came here, I picked up a baked pork bun, three mini pork buns and a big loaves of white bread with dry pork. They even offered to slice the white bread for me. (The sweet white bread with pork is so good and soft , I highly recommend). All of these only for $10.95 Try their white bread, They are exceptional. pretty close in texture and taste to Japanese milk bread (shokupan). I'm pleasantly surprised.

The pork buns are some of the best I've ever had. Inexpensive, and no yucky bits you're not going to finish chewing that end up in a napkin.

Let's get something straight - their Chinese baked goods are among the best in San Francisco. Everything I've purchased from them - the baked buns, the puff pastry fruit, bean or meat pies, the plain or filled breads, the moon cakes, the rice flour pastries, the egg tarts, all super yummy and expertly done. BUT The service is beyond horrible. I'm Asian but order in English and EVERY time I've been in on Friday or Saturday afternoon, the woman behind the counter grunts at me, is super rushed, and tells me to hurry up with my order. EVERY time I get my change, it's slammed on the counter or basically thrown at me. I don't expect good service every place I go. But I do expect the counter people to be human and treat people with respect. Apparently not here.

Mixed experience in regards to Cherry Blossom today. First, I had received an email alerting me that I had a discount available via Doordash that could be used for pickup orders. Given that it was President's Day there was no work, but I was awake and decided to order some Pork & Pineapple Buns. It was very easy to place the pickup order via DD, and in this case the price did not include a markup from the merchants standard prices which can happen when ordering via a delivery application. The drive to Cherry Blossom was painless just prior to 8am, and parking was easy given every parking space on their side of the block was open. Upon entering the shop my already packaged order was given to me, but there was some confusion because unlike a DD drivers order there is not a pickup confirmation step required by the customer. As for the order it was boxed, and bagged which was very nice. Regarding the Pineapple Custard Buns, they were fresh and as wonderfully decadent as remembered. The Pork Buns were Fresh, and Buns well baked, but the filling was very different lacking discernible meat pieces. The filling did not taste wrong but its lack of texture contrasts did not make it appealing. Would I come back for the Custard Buns, Yes. For Pork Buns I'll go to Lung Fung instead.

I always forget Good Luck Dim Sum is closed on Tuesdays ( do not ask me why). But their loss is my gain: Cherry Blossom Bakery is a fantastic choice for all your typical (and Atypical) Dim Sum. Sure they have all the baked buns pork, sausage, onion etc. Really unique buns too...even for you vegetarian folk. But they also have a vast assortment of pastries, cookies, cakes etc. Now this ain't B Pattiserie , Arriscault, or Schubert's but in a pinch their baked goods are perfectly fine.

The egg tarts always taste good when they just came out from the oven. The egg custard are tasty and not too sweet. The crusts is thin but not too flaky and just a little crispy. Also I ordered a dozen mix mini pineapple red bean and custard buns. They tasted like they were made a long time ago. The bread was not soft.

A solid choice for Chinese bakery in the area, they carry all the standard bun and tart options as well as a good assortments of cakes and cookies as well at a reasonable price. I found their standard bakery options to be a bit better than their cakes as these were a bit too light in flavor for me, though the cake itself was quite fluffy. It's also great that they are open till a bit later in the day, in case you find yourself having an evening desire for some Chinese baked goods.

We love this place! Terrific egg custard tarts (better than Golden Gate bakery, in our opinion), pineapple buns, etc. Extremely reasonably priced, and polite service.

I was rushing to find a snack for a bunch of hungry nurses and could not believe that I found this place on door dash. The goodies come in a familiar pink box that makes you think it might be donuts, but surprise! We got the meat buns. Mini pork buns - be warned, they use quite a bit of coloring. But the pork was sweet/salty and the bun surrounding was perfectly soft. They came warm too! I regret not getting the larger size. Mini pineapple bun - this bun had delicious custard inside! There was some type of sugar-crust on the top and I actually preferred the mini size since I'm watching my sugar intake. One day I have to go to the brick/mortar so I can see and try more goodies!

This little shop has so many great options to choose from! I was craving sweet bread when I stumbled upon this place...and honestly, it's now my new favorite bakery! Upon walking in, you can see that all the shelves and food displays are very much fully stocked! Food: Everything was very cheap and affordable, but be sure to bring cash as it is cash only! My favorite things I got were the mini custard pineapple buns and the bread with corn and ham. Let's start with the custard buns, it was so soft, delicious, and addicting. The pineapple flavor is very light, you don't taste it much, but the custard itself was good! Now on to the corn bread! It was my favorite! I ate one and it was the perfect level of savory that I had to drive back and buy three more HAHA. I've already been back to this place twice this week.

This is our favorite spor for breakfast buns. The lady remember us now and she always tease my 8 years old cousin to have her calculate the total. It was fun looking at them. Anyway, just to write this to appreciate everybody here.

Cash only. I must have been here before, but I'm not sure. I'm in this area pretty often, and have been for many years! Walked in here on Sunday afternoon while running errands in the area. Bought the following: egg custard $1.70, buttermilk bread $1.70, 2 cocktail buns $2.60 for both, flower cake $2.00 (sponge bread). The cocktail buns were great and will order that again. I ordered the buttermilk bread because it said "favorite" on the sign. It was good but not great. I'd order the cocktail buns over that buttermilk bread. I would definitely go back again.

The service was bad. I placed my order and was talking to my husband while waiting for the women to put the buns in the box. Then she said something to me, but I didn't hear her because I was talking to my husband. When I realize she was speaking to me and I asked "what did you say?" She immediately had a tantrum for everyone to see. She heard me ask her, but she immediately became upset and turned her back and walked away, threw the thong in her hand onto the counter in the back making a loud bang. I could see her in the back with her lips mouthing angry words while tying our box. Seriously! We are customers, and have to right to talk to whoever we want. Why get so upset? What a narcissist. I will not buy from them again. The food didn't taste that good either. The buns tasted old. She also got us to order more than we wanted.

My family and I had been patronizing this bakery for many years. The baked goods are always fresh. Our favorites are the curry beef buns, pineapple custard buns, and the egg tarts. We tried the curry beef buns from several other bakeries and they're not as good as theirs. The employees are nice and friendly.

Maybe a long time ago I passed by this place. I like the moon cakes of various kinds including those with salted egg yolks.

10/7/23 Cherry Blossom Bakery is the best pastry shop in all the world. I thought when I was stationed in Germany during my military years they were the best. Cherry Blossom Bakery rules !!!

Do you know how hard it is to find a place in Chinatown that sells curry beef baked buns? There used to be a place on Grant Ave a block away from Golden Daisy but they are no longer there. Fast forward to Clement Street aka 2nd Chinatown where I found what I was looking for. When I walked in they were not on display but when I asked they did have them. Pictured is the size uncut which is quite large and when cut in half to show the ratio of curry beef ingredients. 5 solid stars this place is located across from the Seafood Center between 9th and 10th on Clement.

On a recent trip into San Francisco, we wanted to check out how the New Chinatown businesses were faring as we come out of the pandemic. We came across Cherry Blossom Bakery to check out their traditional Chinese bakery items. The display case featured many traditional items such as barbecue pork buns, pineapple buns, and egg custard tarts. Everything was well displayed and looked delicious. The service was quick and friendly. Prices were very inexpensive compared to other parts of the Bay area. The only downside was they only accept cash. We came away with baked pineapple buns, baked barbecue pork buns, baked barbeque pork pastry puff, custard tarts, and a baked corn bun. Everything was fresh and tasty especially the egg custard tarts that were still warm fresh out of the oven. It's been years since we've visited the area and it's nice to see some businesses have held up (although not many).

Found out that they had durian cake and I had to try it for my birthday. It's a fluffy 3 layered sponge cake with 1 layer of delicious pure durian and topped off with fresh fruits on the top. Total price was $33 for a 6" cake. Would definitely come back as they have durian shaped durian cakes that I'm interested in trying. Their baked buns and egg tarts are very good as well!

$36 bucks for a "cake". This was last minute, the cake had strawberries, green grapes and a kiwi. NO FILLING between layers. The whole cake was pink frosted, 2 layers of thin cake and the largest top layer of frosting. No one wants to eat that. There were 3 cakes left in the display case.There's a five star display that I thought was a credit card machine. CASH ONLY but somehow they can fulfill orders by grubhub??? Will not come again to this location, the one on ocean is way better, not sure if they have the same cake decorators but the two I've gotten on Ocean Ave were far better.

3.5 - 3.8 stars This is a Chinese-style bakery. I haven't been here in a while, but when I was eating more carbs, I like their: -Chocolate rolls. Reminded me of those Yule Logs during Christmas except less sweet, less frosting, and very yummy. -Cocktail buns, filled with lard, sugar, and coconut. Oh dangerous, but a treat! -Cream horn is also delicious. Flaky phyllo crust and delicious cream, with a cherry. They sell these in local Russian bakeries, but I like them here because they are a bit less sweet. -Ham, corn, and mayo bun. A little sweet and salty, hitting all the notes. -Egg tart, when it comes out of the oven piping hot. Sometimes the customer service is great, but sometimes not so much. Depending on who you get really. They constantly try to upsell you while you are shopping. I get it. It's a hustle, but sometimes I just don't want that. Also, sometimes, when you buy maybe 2-3 egg tarts, they put them in a bag instead of a box. Who wants smashed egg tarts? Nobody... Despite all of that, I still think they are a pretty solid bakery around these parts which is why I'm rounding up.

Cherry Blossom bakery is essentially a breakfast staple in our household. We love getting their baked buns by the dozen which makes for a nice breakfast on the run on busier weekdays. My personal favorites are the red bean swirl or the black sesame filled buns. The rest of my family likes more traditional favorites like the pork buns, hot dog buns, and raisin buns. I feel like you genuinely can't really go wrong when picking things on the right side of the pastry shelf. On the left side, there are more western options like croissants and turnovers. They aren't necessarily bad, but at the same time, they don't have the same flair as other artisan bakeries. Price per bun ranges from about 80 cents to 2 dollars each depending on the filling it style. Generally, I consider this to be a good deal. I also find that the buns here are bigger and fluffier than those of Wheat Field Bakery and fresher than those at Red A.

I wanted to find out for myself what all the hype was about. Wow, prices for buns have gone up considerably. And the buns are smaller than I'm used to. Sign of the times. The pineapple bun is slightly under baked and the flavor...is just ok, I've had better. The first two bites left a baking powder aftertaste which I found unpleasant. The filling inside the pork bun was good, but, again, the size is smaller than other bakeries. I ordered a bun with whipped cream and coconut flakes. The whipped cream was a cross between whipped cream and butter cream. Cash only. I only had a limited amount of cash so I limited the number of items I ordered. Had they taken cards, I would've been inclined to purchase more items. Hint hint. I just don't understand why some businesses these days accept cash only. If it's the fees charged by the banks, I understand but, hardly no one carries a lot of cash anymore and again, if you accept cards then you'll probably get your customers to buy more items which is a good thing for business. Anyhow, I'd like to go back to try the other baked goods but, since they don't accept cards, I probably won't.

Omg this place I barely have the words. But I'll try. I was always told all my life in the SF Bay area that Golden Gate bakery is it. This is where the best egg tarts are. And people get very frustrated at Golden Gate because they're not open regularly, they have huge lines, and its just unclear how you can even obtain these egg tarts even if you show up. I've had the opportunity to have Golden Gate a few times, all fresh, and obviously think it's very good. However, that was before I found Cherry Blossom. I think Cherry Blossom, for me, rivals Golden Gate and I prefer Cherry over GG! I like that the crust is a little more flaky and less crust-pie crust like, and the filling is more eggy and a little less artificial than GG from a taste perspective. They only take cash here, despite what people may have seen, and I would call to order in advance!
