9 Local Denver Spots for a Great Bourbon Cocktail | Eater

"This Cherry Creek staple is known for its roasted chicken, lamb, and pork. Grab a seat at the horseshoe-shaped bar and settle into a dram of bourbon with a kale and rotisserie chicken salad. Or, reserve a dark and cozy booth and try the classic Old Fashioned (Bulleit Bourbon and Angostura bitters) with the rotisserie Colorado leg of lamb sandwich." - Vox Creative

Google
The CC Grill consistently delivers on service, atmosphere and food. I love the lighting and wood tones that sets a nice intimate mood for dinner. The service is always professional and friendly. I like that the workers wear uniforms and work together as a team to serve their clients. The food is fresh and very delicious. Whenever I’m back in the Denver area I try to stop in for dinner.

Google
The shrimp cocktail was excellent... but the grill chicken was dry and underwhelming. I didn't love the wild rice salad. We shared the corn bread nuggets and it didn't taste like corn bread. I didn't care for it. The sausage and chicken platter was meh.. we are in town for the day and I'm bummed we chose this

Google
Cherry Creek Grill never disappoints. The macho salad is hands-down the best salad I’ve ever had in my entire life—loaded with flavor, texture, and perfectly balanced ingredients. It’s crave-worthy. Pair that with their grilled artichokes, which are charred just right and served with a dipping sauce that takes things to the next level, and you’ve got a meal that hits all the right notes.

Google
Was able to snag 2 bar seats at a busy time of the day. The atmosphere was busy and bustling but it never felt uncomfortable or rude. The corn bread bites were incredible. We walked from our hotel to eat. That’s a fun experience.

Google
First time in the area and I based going here on good reviews and a rotisserie lamb sandwich. We arrive and the place is packed on a sunny day, all the outside tables were taken and there was a 25 min wait without reservations. Luckily the hostess immediately noticed seats at the bar and sat us quickly. The 2 bartenders were amazing, I would recommend coming in just for some drinks and conversation with them. They elevated the entire experience. We first had the dip duo, the guacamole was fresh and delicious and the jalapeno queso was unique and tasty! I changed my mind on the sandwich based on the glowing recommendation of the Famous French Dip. My counterpart had the salad with tuna. I was skeptical when the French dip was touted to be life changing. I was wrong. It has ruined me for French dip sandwiches for the rest of my life. I will have to come back here now every time I visit Denver!

Google
Good and service were awesome. We split the famous French dip au jus, it was absolutely amazing paired with their quinoa salad and fries it was more than enough food for my wife and I! The server and staff were on point as well...

I’ve been here a few times. Service is great. Food is amazingly delicious. The vibe is really relaxing and upscale. Always a perfect lunch.

Google
Cherry Creek Grill was amazing! 🤩 From the drinks to the apps to the main course, it was all spectacular. The chicken and french dip sandwiches were second to none. The hardest part was deciding which one to order! You will not be disappointed. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. We will be back, thanks Denver Cherry Creek!

Yelp
No Hats No hats in the dining area, but you can wear them at the bar. Food and service are always incredible. The chicken and ribeye are delicious! Try the seared ahi tuna salad and salmon with toast points for appetizers. Avoid the filet mignon - it's so thick it doesn't translate well.

Yelp
On a week night, we had a party of 7. One of us went early to put in our name. We waited at least 1.5 hours to get a table. We had out of town guests joining us. We had a bottle of wine. (ONE BOTTLE OF WINE!!!!!!) We were having a great time and laughing quite a bit and on occasion we were a little loud. WHEN A TABLE OF ADULTS ARE BEING TOO LOUD IN A RESTAURANT, SHOULDN'T THE STAFF POLITELY APPROACH THE TABLE , ACKNOWLEDGE THE NOISE LEVEL, AND ASK THEM TO TONE IT DOWN? That was not the case, when one of us went to order a glass of wine, we were told we were cut off and we needed to eat some food..... WTH? We had already eaten 2 orders of cornbread and 3 orders of develed eggs and water also. I thought we were on Candid Camera and that this was a joke or prank of some sort. It was REAL! We frequently visit this establishment, however because of this, my Husband and I will never be back and we will no longer bring out of town guests to Cherry creek grill! LIGHTEN UP CHERRY CREEK GRILL!!!

Yelp
Ok my wife made us reservations to this place not knowing this was a parent company of Hillstone Restaurant where we usually visit weekly so we opted into having the same meal which was the ruby red trout and got disappointed. Ended up being not as good as the parent restaurant so we were thrown back a little. Fries usually come stacked to the hilt and hot and fresh and that totally did t happen. Attentiveness is what makes a place and that didn't happen either Overall this is a nice spot to drink but I will be sticking to the original spot Thanks for trying

Yelp
I got a $22 salad to go and when the heat got to me today I asked if I could get a cup of water. The said the don't have to go cups. I was a little disappointed but oh well. When I got the salad there was no plastic ware. So I asked for some and oh we don't carry that. I asked how am I supposed to eat the salad. She said "i don't know. I'm sorry." They expect us to pay $22 and they don't provide us with a plastic fork to eat it?? I'm pretty appalled! NEVER AGAIN!

Yelp
first of all the waitress was not very nice when my friend asked about gf/ vegan options. She seemed put out when she had to explain the menu. we all ordered salads and the portions were very small. when asked for more lettuce and they said we would have to pay! I am tired of going out and paying a premium price and being hungry when I get home! I'll be eating at home more....

Yelp
My sister loves to go here almost every time we are in the cherry creek area. It is a fancy place and great from an upscale date. The servers are incredible! The menu is diverse and I haven't had a single thing I do not like on there. When they have the artichoke it is a must have!

Yelp
Went to CCG with 2 local friends. Very busy place. Very dark. Moody. Service was perfect. Menu is very small but they specialize in some great items. Everything we ordered was delicious. We started off with the infamous Grilled Artichokes, and then each had the Braised Ribs, and the Salmon Special. I also ordered a side of Cream Corn for all of us to share, which was perfect. The ribs with mustard bbq sauce were so delicious. Two ribs...crunchy caramelized crust and fork tender. The coleslaw side was possibly the best creamy slaw I've ever had. Small cut...it was almost like risotto! Excellent. Dessert was the only 2 items they offer...Banana Cream Pie and Oreo Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich with Chocolate Sauce. Excellent. Apparently part of a chain, but excellent evening.

Yelp
Really good atmosphere! Came back here for lunch on a Thursday and it was so busy! Service was a little slow at the beginning but after that it was exquisite. I thought the deviled eggs were worse this time. Think they changed the recipe, not too sure. My parents thought their sausage was a little undercooked, i thought so too. Burger was really big, yummy but not mind blowing. Chips and guacamole and queso was good. Chicken was decent. Come here for the vibes!

Yelp
Stopped in on a whim and was very impressed. Service was phenomenal, our servers worked together to make the dinning experience great! It's cherry creek prices but you're definitely going to get good food. Finally a nice day we sat on the patio and it was gorgeous with the elegant music playing in the background. Jumbo Shrimp was actually jumbo and both cocktail sauces were delicious. I CANNOT say enough about the Jackrabbit cocktail! Im coming back just for this! Duo Dip is a different take on queso (think palmetto ball) & guacamole. If you aren't afraid of spice, order this! Deviled Eggs come with 3 1/2 eggs and is on the mustard side but for someone who doesn't like mustard, I still enjoyed this.

Yelp
Good ambience, great service, mediocre food. The wine collection is good, but most of what we ordered - brussel sprouts, steak and even some other dishes were just fine.

Yelp
Had the worst restaurant experience of my life here in December 2020. We came here for a birthday dinner with a friend. We found the staff and management to be horribly rude - shockingly rude. It's was a very busy and loud Friday night (a few days before Christmas) which is normal for Cherry Creek but staff seemed to be obsessed with our table. Perhaps they should invest in sound proofing or a better table arrangement rather than verbally accosting their customers who are eating dinner. We had two desserts for our group, but I would not recommend either. We've been coming here for more than 15 years, but the new management clearly is running a different agenda and doesn't seem to understand how the service business works. The culture here has shifted, and not in a good way. We won't be coming back. There are so many other better restaurant choices in Cherry Creek than this place. It's gone down hill.
google avatar

Yelp
The atmosphere is fantastic. Relaxed and comfortable, yet elegant. Indoor and patio seating available. We made a reservation to ensure we got a table. All of the staff were professional and friendly. The server was helpful and knowledgeable and assisted with questions. There are so many good items on the menu it was hard to choose. I opted for the Wood Grilled Ribeye. Perfectly grilled, little seasoning and tender. I also got the ice cream sandwich for dessert. It was a little frozen and difficult to cut through, but once it started to melt a little it was decent. This is a place I would return to regularly.
google avatar

Julia D.

Yelp
It is pretty dark when you walk in and because it is so busy/popular, it was a little crowded in the entrance way. It has been cold out, but they had space heaters in a few locations so it was a bit toasty in there. We got the deviled eggs, cornbread, ribs and the pork chop. I would prefer the eggs over cornbread in the future. We both loved our entrees and would order again. Pork chop was huge serving and very juicy. The ribs really were "fork and knife." Overall, it was a solid meal but don't know if there was anything super unique that would make me go back before going to try out somewhere new in cherry creek.

Yelp
Drove down here from Fort Collins in the snow for a birthday dinner (have been here over 50 times the last 20 years). Was told I would have to leave if I did not remove my cap. Tables next to us had girls wearing hats but I found out this only applies to men. Will definitely never return again. BTW...your online dress code does not state "men only."

Yelp
A beautiful hillstone group restaurant in a beautiful area serving food that's exceptional as expected. The servers are always attentive and friendly, the food is prepared perfectly, and you're guaranteed a great dinner. The hillstone group is known for perfecting a menu and hardly ever changing it. So rotating to different locations like this are nice to try dishes you may usually not have access to, such as a lamb sandwich that was maybe the best lamb I've ever tasted? I only wish they would add more items more often

Yelp
Service is excellent food is tasty and fresh. We had the Grouper and braised cabbage with goat cheese sounds a little fishy but tasted very good.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Wonderful ambience and always perfect food! My fave things to order are the artichokes, kale and rotisserie chicken salad, and the trout with coleslaw! Service is always wonderful too!

Yelp
After a long day of shopping and finding a restaurant with a patio to enjoy the summer weather, we decided on Cherry creek grill. We came at a time when it wasn't too busy and was able to get a table right away. Not sure why we had to give our name and still wait at the host stand for a minute. I hate when the front area is just over crowded- esp when people are entering and exiting the establishment. I find it just awkward just making your way through. We Started off with the smoked slamon. The toast was nice and crispy, the dressing/spread complimented the smoked salmon perfectly, making this appetizer a great start. We def needed more toast to finish the salmon or I need to load more salmon on each toast. The macho salad is a salad I always have to order here. It's light and refreashing. I do wish they would cut the avocado, chicken and croutons more instead of having it so chunky. The chicken sandwich was recommended by the server, it was good- nothing special tho- there was too much bread for me tho. And the fries could of been crisper and had more seasoning. The lamb sandwich was my least favorite. Just not a fan of the lamb. But if you are you would like this sandwich. Our server was very attentive and knew her menu. This is one of my go to spots in Cherry creek. Simple yet delicious.

Yelp
I had reservations with a friend at 6 pm on Saturday and we had a great dinner. 4 different workers approached our table when we finished our meal but were still visiting and were not ready to leave. When the 4th employee told us they needed our table and we needed to leave. We paid and left, the restaurant closes at 9:30 pm on Friday and Saturday. I have never been kicked out of a restaurant before. I will never go back and will let anyone I know about my experience. We paid a lot of money for our dinner, we should be able to stay as long as we want.

Yelp
A lot of people rave about this place so maybe my expectations were out of line but I wasn't impressed. Let's start with the restaurant itself - there isn't a proper entryway so you are subject to the elements even inside - it was freezing anytime someone opened the door. I got the French dip sandwich with a side of fries. The sandwich was decent but not worth anything close to $25. The fries were... edible? They honestly reminded me of In n out (which no one goes there for the fries!) Service was lackluster. Not bad, just not good either. For over $30 with tax and tip for just a sandwich and fries (no drinks!) I would have expected much much more. I would skip it, honestly.

Yelp
When you walk in the ambience is rustic and comfortable, with dim lighting and seating only in booths. Reservations are a must to get one of the booths, but there is also a relatively large bar area where you can wait for your table or order from the menu on a quick date night stop in. The Dings Crispy Chicken sandwich is highly recommended, for good reason, it's always perfectly crisp topped with cheese and creamy coleslaw. The burger is so tender and juicy it doesn't need anything else on it. The service is always fast and attentive, with an extensive wine selection. This is one of my go-to restaurants when I'm in town!
google avatar

Cheryl B.

Yelp
I have eaten at this restaurant for 2 decades. The food never disappoints, the service is excellent. The booths are comfortable and it's as quiet as a restaurant can be that is always busy. I give it highest recommendation possible.
google avatar

Craig S.

Yelp
Great spot in the Cherry Creek area. The staff were very friendly and the service was excellent. I went with French dip which was delicious and instead of fries I enjoyed the cucumber salad. Both were worth ordering. You will not be disappointed. Enjoy!!!!

Yelp
Just moved to Denver and this is the spot! The service and food was amazing! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
We took some old friends from out of town here. Everyone had a great time: From the wonderful setting, top notch service, and excellent food it was a wonderful experience. Great diverse menu Not wine and cocktail selection Place is always pretty busy so make reservations One of our favorites in Cherry Creek

Yelp
A solid bet for quality dining and service in the CC hood. The bar staff of Katie and Alice Anne provided energetic service with a personal touch. I usually cave to routine and opt for the Scottish salmon (nicely medium rare) with an extra dollop of pomme purée. The kale side salad is the best. I want to know the secret to making kale flavorful! The bar area was abuzz with patrons, allowing us time to chill with a pre-drink while waiting for seats. I do appreciate that they have a waiting list for bar seating. Lessens the stress of being a vulture for an opening. Def a return customer at any Hillstone Restaurant!

Yelp
-- Sometimes you can tell the staff knows the menu better than their chef... -- My mother is honestly super passionate about this place, but sometimes I think she's just wanting a good place to tell people about in Denver. She is a phenomenal cook herself so I trust her judgement. While she had a happy outside, her sandwich was barely touched and her fries and side weren't even though about. I know this is a fairly dramatic review but to be honest, this place needs some polish. Ingredients inside the food seem like they were added for bulk and not flavor. My caeser salad was mediocre at best, the rotisserie chicken was bland and the dressing seemed somehow like an after thought. However the main point of this was to say I can tell the staff knows better than the chef, my coffee was AWFUL but was served to me regardless. The bartender acknowledged my disgust and said that she too hated their coffee. (I believe the espresso is pushed to tight during the pour, but the coffee beans themselves tasted burnt or expired) I bet the staff knows how to modify their dishes to make them taste better, and I'm sure they are the reason the front of house seems lively. I also couldn't tell if they were being managed properly from their body language seeming submissive when the FOH manager was on the floor. Otherwise the location is nice and the inside is luxurious, but someone needs to tell whoever is in charge of the menu to take risks and have bold flavors. I hate leaving a place I spent $100 on for two, and all I have to recommend is their jalapeño cheese dip ‍. The bartender was lovely regardless but I can tell she isn't the happiest when it comes to working that place.

Yelp
I've eaten at Cherry Creek Grill several times. The food is consistently good for a corporate chain of 50 restaurants. Unfortunately, they have terrible policy of asking people to remove their ball cap or hats. Today, a windy and cold day the host asked me to remove my cap. I politely declined and then he changed to more forceful tone. Again I declined, and he pushed harder to a point he angered me. Corporations may dictate and control policy of their employees. But they are here to serve customers. The thing is there was another person at the bar wearing a hat which I pointed out and during the course of our 45 minutes in the location I counted two additional other customers wearing caps. This is a casual restaurant in Denver, it's not highly fashionable chef driven experience. No matter how they perceive themselves it is a homogenized concept. Secondly, after I declined and pointed out other persons in non-compliance of this ridiculous policy the host then started to tell me that I was disrespecting him. Which by the way is a narcissistic DARVO way of claiming victim status that is absolutely inappropriate by anyone no matter the color of their skin or gender. $88 for lunch is not cheap. And the hosts tone tainted not only the experience but destroyed my mood. I explained to the host that my upset tone wasn't personal against him, but rather my distaste for an unwarranted humiliation of the customer. I'm very tired of high prices, expectations for 18%-22% tipping for average but not exceptional service. But it is the added insult and insinuation that the customer is always wrong that is pushing me (and others read more reviews) away from returning this restaurant.

Yelp
Used to love CCG but... this last time we got cut "off" after three glasses of wine, a full steak dinner and apps. The baby manager had to come over and talk to us while our server was utterly rude to us for no reason other than sitting at the table for two hours. Not going back. Sadly.

Alec G.

Yelp
Cool spot! Great martinis . A lot like the Rutherford grill in Napa and Hillstone here in Denver. All consistently good.

Yelp
I have never had a bad experience at Cherry Creek grill. The vibe is upscale, low lights, and wait staff all in black. No official dress code from what I can tell with people dressed at all levels of formal. Some in jeans and a t shirt and others dressed to the nines. The menu changes slightly seasonally. I love the ribs which for years were pork but this most recent trip they were beef. Both absolutely delicious. Another in my party got the ribeye and the flavors was on point. Highly recommend both dishes. The deviled eggs were too crunchy for my liking (heavy celery). I loved the cornbread! Jalapeño pieces baked in and topped with parm. Not very spicy but very tasty. No parking lot, just mixed in with Cherry Creek North parking. Wait wasn't too long on a Sunday evening. We were quoted 35-40min and were seating after about 30min.

Yelp
Ordered steak and chicken salads for lunch. Quality of food was great. It's a bit overpriced but reasonable for the central location The peanut dressing for chicken was great

Joel N.

Yelp
Always amazing food and service! I wish more places had the attention to detail and training of staff- always spot on.

Heidi C.

Yelp
Still the best cheeseburger on the planet. And the macho salad is amazing. Their consistency after all these years is remarkable! Food, service, atmosphere are all outstanding. You can tell that management demands excellence and everyone knows it. 5 stars!

Yelp
very classy place with great service and warm atmosphere. highly recommend the deviled eggs and kale salad both were so good. my veggie burger was great also, i enjoyed my experience

Yelp
This place is pretty great. My boyfriend and I came to get some lunch before our flight since we wanted to go to the shops before and we were very satisfied with their service. I got a margarita/ Paloma drink (I'm not sure what the name was on the menu) but very good!! I had to have 2. The portions were a good size so we shared a plate and got the chicken, beef rib and sausage plate with fries and a salad. The beef ribs were amazing and so soft. It's pretty hard finding a good beef rib place in la so we were happy to stop here. The service was good and we sat outside so it was a nice day to enjoy the weather. I definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner. The service was absolutely amazing. The waitress was super friendly and the service was quick.
google avatar

Danielle M.

Yelp
Wow! The food here is amazing. I absolutely love the relaxed atmosphere but it was also classy. The service was probably the best I've had since prior to the pandemic - they clearly care about their customers. We will definitely be coming here more often.
google avatar

Justin N.

Yelp
Let me tell you that these folks have the best French Dip I've ever had! They always put Colorado Lamb as the primary meat in there for me when I ask. Additionally, they helped make my proposal there on 26 December 2023 a major success! I got a cake from the Taste of Denmark Bakery on 21 December and the GM stored it at her house for 5 days! Unfortunately the cake collapsed a little bit on one end but they covered it up with flowers to make it look beautiful! The Head Chef, the GM and the Server made sure that we had the best experience possible and went above and beyond. The server also took a video that will be unforgettable. I am indebted to Cherry Creek Grill forever and will always put this night there down as one of the greatest nights of my life!

Yelp
Stopped in here yesterday for the first time - met some friends for lunch. Highly recommend a reservation (we had one, but was surprised how busy it was at lunch time ~12:30). We had a nice booth near the door, with plenty of space for the four of us. While they don't have lemonade (I asked about an Arnold Palmer), our server recommended the mango iced tea, which was delicious (highly recommend, not sweet and bright delicious flavor). We started with the grilled artichokes which were delicious (large and meaty with a nice grill/smoked flavor), the aioli it came with was also really good. For lunch I had the seared tuna salad (another server recommendation, they fly the Ahi in daily). It came with a cilantro-ginger dressing that was really good, mixed greens, large portions of mango and avocado. Super bright and delicious - highly recommend. Will for sure be back to try more of the menu!

Ken R.

Yelp
Excellent service!!! They exhibited a level of professionalism rarely seen lately at restaurants! Food came out quickly and hot.

Yelp
The Beef Ribs are so good, fall off the bone, flame grilled and the mustard bbq sauce is unexpectedly tasty. Atmosphere is very posh and nice to enjoy once in a while.

Sulli D.

Yelp
Not impressed. Food is mediocre at best. Not a child friendly establishment. Service was good.
google avatar

Ken C.

Yelp
I can honestly say their food is super consistent. The last time I went to Cherry Creek Grill was 20 years ago when a friend of mine was a waitress there. I remember the food tasting very similar to it does today. They took some items off the menu, one of which, was a prime rib sandwich that I enjoyed. ( No longer available) Hostess and wait staff is super friendly and the ambiance is very intimate and approachable. Dark woods line the interior while a patio seems to be the summer spot. Overall, you can't complain too much about a dinner at the Cherry Creek Grill.
google avatar

Nancy J.

Yelp
Ate here recently after a few years of it simply falling off our radar. Between the pandemic, and LOTS of new restaurants, I hadn't made the effort to visit CCG. Then a friend reminded me of the best salad ever -- The Macho Salad. They've served it for decades (not really sure how long... but it's been a long time). It is unique and yummy and instantly reminds me how I need regular doses of it. They also serve up some great grilled artichokes! It's always a special place for those who are dining with me -- friends, husbands, siblings. Their hamburger are especially good, as is their French Dip and lamb sandwich. Go!

Yelp
We came in for lunch and sat at the bar as there was a 30-40 min wait for a table. We had Emily as our bartender/server. She was (by-far) the best server we have ever had- ever! We ordered deviled eggs to start off, the eggs were delicate and creamy with a great crunch from the celery. We also ordered bbq Carolina ribs, and trout as our meals. Both were large, generous portions. The ribs were tangy and falling off the bone tender. The trout was perfectly cooked but a bit too much seasoning, but still good. The side of cole slaw and cabbage were so unique and delicious. Emily kept our waters full, gave us clean plates and utensils with every new dish. She anticipated every need and had it for us before we ever had to ask for anything . She was giving all her customers great attentive service with a smile! Whenever we come back, I will only request to be seated in her section. Great food and amazing service!

Yelp
Brutal. Undisclosed 'time limit' destroyed an otherwise nice evening. Good food and wine not worth the moronic service.

Yelp
Consistent delicious food, service and a wonderful warm ambiance. Macho salad is my go to fav!
