Where to Find Portland Grocery Delivery During the Coronavirus Outbreak | Eater Portland

"I call this North Portland shop at (503) 445-4959 (or DM their Instagram) to place curbside pickup orders for local produce, frozen and fresh meats, and grains and legumes; they ask for specific amounts and contact details, usually fill orders within a few hours (overnight appreciated), and I pick up at 722 N Sumner Street." - Alex Frane

Vegan Fine Dining Spot Farm Spirit to Temporarily Stop Dine-In Service | Eater Portland

Northwest Portland’s Beetroot Will Stop Serving Dine-In Customers Amid Novel Coronavirus Outbreak | Eater Portland

"At the modern Jewish deli run by Sonya Sanford, I saw a business that had been open only about six months and was starting to pick up after winter before the first Multnomah County COVID-19 case triggered a roughly 50 percent drop in sales. To protect vulnerable customers and maintain service, Sanford is shifting Beetroot to delivery and takeout only, closing on weekends to develop a meal service for people who want comfort food without entering dining rooms or grocery stores. She plans to avoid third-party apps, have employees handle deliveries, double-sanitize equipment, use gloves, and is working to gauge demand while worrying that supply-chain disruptions may force menu changes—though she is certain soups will remain central to what they offer." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Inside the Intricate and Involved Making of Ava Gene’s Babka Waffles | Eater Portland

"At the Westside Jewish deli Beetroot, owner Sonya Sanford responded to local demand by putting loaves of babka in the pastry case more often, offering flavors like pistachio cardamom alongside the classic chocolate, which helped fuel Portland’s growing fixation on the pastry." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
They have (almost) all the things. So convenient and friendly. Amazing selection of local seasonal produce. Great local grocery store.

Elena C.

Google
Cherry Sprout for life! Don’t sleep on their great wine selection. Nick helped us pick out a bunch for a big amount that was delicious and affordable, it was a hit.

EnaRosa F.

Google
Love this place, very nice and convenient in the neighborhood, at walking distance from our home. Fresh and nice products and good prices.

Anne

Google
Inspired little store offering great prices on produce—a mix of non- and organic—from Portland-area farms. They also carry other locally sourced staples including bulk items, eggs and dairy, as well as a few toiletries. Love this place cause it's easy to stop and find just about everything you need to make dinner in a pinch, without feeling completely overwhelmed... Plus ample beer and wine choices to pair with it. 😋

Allene S.

Google
Came in and tried talking to clerk. Very nasty acting employees. I won't return.

Ian B.

Google
Incredibly friendly service. Adorable local store. Reasonable prices! Support your local store! Sometimes they have outside live folk music!

Ian A.

Google
This is as close to the standard local stores I miss from London with good produce and lots of high quality essentials. I don't know why there aren't more of them in the USA, but I'm glad it's here.

Carnage F.

Google
Love shopping here! This is a small local store where everyone is super nice and helpful. The fruit and veggies are locally sourced as much as possible and are always fresh and tasty. They stock a good selection of grocery items to cater for every dietary need and requirements. A small selection of "on the go" sandwiches, wraps and drinks for those in a hurry.

Yelp
Could not be more grateful to this place in time of need. Thank you for opening your doors to your community. Warmly welcoming us and speaking to us with love & hope. Very opposite of Whole Foods during this crisis ;) We will be coming back over & over again. So much love!

Yelp
Parking~It's by Jefferson High School in a residential neighborhood it's street parking 15-30 mins and 1 hour signs. Service~My cashier was absolutely nice and, we were having great conversations! He made sure that I found everything that I needed. Produce/Food~Is fresh daily and, they are fully stocked on what you need and, if it's not available they will kindly check their back storage area! Ambience~There are oldie but, goodie's playing softly in the background, the store is well stocked and very clean. If you are looking for fresh daily produce and a friendly and welcoming environment I highly recommend you coming here!!!

Yelp
I always feel unwelcome here. Today the 3 workers made fun of me in plain sight. It was about something that they could have included me in and we'd have laughed together but they chose to laugh at my expense. I'm here supporting a small local business thinking it builds community and leaving, once again, feeling othered.

H N.

Yelp
Kind of a bummer-I love this as a neighborhood place, but apparently they decided I was suspicious today? One of the cashiers was following & photographing me as I was deciding what to buy. Just a really lousy feeling, has totally killed the energy I used to love about coming here.
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
A quaint neighborhood market. They stock a number of local and small brands including Hot Mama Salsa's homemade tortilla chips made with peanut oil, it's a regular staple in our home. They are without exaggeration the best chips I've had save those straight out of the fryer at authentic Mexican restaurants in Southern California. The cost is $6 which is about $3 more than grocery store favorite Juanita's brand, but the taste difference is night and day.
google avatar

Aejin H.

Yelp
Neat little grocery store with huge markups on items. Bitchin sauce goes for about $4 in San Diego, it was about $7 here. Bubbie's pickles are $9 in San Diego, and it was about $11 here. Only bought Ruby Jewel ice cream sandwiches here, the lemon lavender flavor was probably one of the ice cream sandwiches I've had. The chocolate chip cookie with vanilla was alright. The ice cream didn't seem very rich.
google avatar

Yelp
This is a cute small Neighborhood Grocery Store. They have a decent selection of vegan cheeses and organic sandwiches. They also have some things that you can't find at the big grocery stores like a Falafel wrap that's wrapped with some green leafy thing instead of pita bread. By staff was nice and friendly. They also took the time to walk me to my area and explain the various options that they have. This is one of those places where you could spend a long time looking at things. The experience was enjoyable, and I found what I was looking for. The one thing that wasn't convenient is that you can't get cash back.

Yelp
Whatever Cherry Sprout Produce lacks in size and selection, it makes up for in local warm fuzzies. It's a literal corner market specializing in organic, healthy, and, most importantly, local grocery essentials. If you support local and are local, then there is no reason not to visit Cherry Sprout Produce to shop for your vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, or fresh food. They also have some interesting beer and wine choices as well. We popped in to get some organic salad fixings, but found the selection limited. We bought a few of the fresh veggies and hit the bulk food section for a couple snacks. We ended up going to another store for the rest of our needs, but, overall, Cherry Sprout Produce was an a-ok, 3-star store for shopping and eating local.

Alex W.

Yelp
Not a fan of the expensive everything. why is a tiny thing of cream cheese the same cost as a tiny kind bar? not to mention the staff eyeing you nonstop as you look around? not a great or comfortable place to be at but maybe that's just me.
google avatar

Bodie P.

Yelp
What a cute little neighborhood store. Although it's selection was not as extensive as a Fred Meyer's it had great neighborhood charm and it seemed like it had at least one item from all the categories. Impressive little store with exceptional staff as well.

Julie B.

Yelp
I've shopped here exactly 2 times. And both times left me feeling very unwelcome. Both times the staff have been passive aggressive and rude. Everybody is sick of the pandemic and I'm sure they are tired of telling people that they are at capacity, but please realize that customers are not mind readers. We could all do with a little bit more kindness. I have absolutely no problem waiting outside to go in, I am more than happy to do so, and am grateful they're being careful. But walking in, barely acknowledged, because nobody is near the door to say if it's okay to enter, doesn't warrant the staff persons acting condescending and snotty. It's unkind and unnecessary. The store does have a nice selection of local and healthy or natural foods, but it's overpriced. It's like a high-end natural food store disguised as the neighborhood corner market.

Yelp
Small little store in the neighborhood. I am a semi regular customer there...I like supporting local businesses and this is one of them. Ok selections for quick stop. Customer service is great with some and some not so great. There are couple of "maybe new" people I have noticed that make me feel a bit uncomfortable when I'm at the store. I feel their eyes on me constantly....Not the first or second time this happened with these ladies since I started noticing. I want to shop in peace. I will ask if I need help. Don't follow me around.
google avatar

Nicole S.

Yelp
I love this friendly little shop! The staff is very kind and genuine- ready to help. They have a nice selection of rotating wines- and they do occasional wine tastings which bring out all the neighborhood peeps. I really enjoy shopping here. Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

Yelp
This place is amazing.. Freshness all around.. Got my greens and smoke meat.. Dinner is going to be amazing.. Will be coming back.. And the staff is great!!

Yelp
I'm happy to have this cute lil neighborhood market within walking distance. I consider it more of a Portlandia convenience store, which is great to have close by when you need to dash out for something. They have all the basics plus organic and Gluten Free options. To up the ante they have a good selection of beer & wines ranging from you're ole champgne of beers up to the microbrews you've grown to love. They don't always have the most beautiful produce in town nor do they have all the produce avaliable that bigger stores might have. Just to clarify, I don't expect them to have fruits and veggies that are not in season. I've gone with things in mind that are in season and they haven't had them. You might have to be a bit more flexible with your grocery list. Produce is all organic which is a plus. Now let's talk brass tacks shall we? Cherry Sprout is more expensive then your average store. But that's why I think it's more of a convenience store, you pay for the ease of your shopping experience. It's worth mentioning that I've purchased expiered King Harvest hummus here on a few occasions. You think I'd wisen up and check the dates before I buy them but I haven't and I'm alive to tell the tale so no bigs. Just a PSA: Check the dates before you buy perishables here, It's not a huge busy store so things aren't always flying off the shelves. Also they are a great part of our little neighborhood. They're frequently have events you can find out about through their Facebook. They're worth checking out! All and all, this is a wonderful place to pop in if you need a few things.

Yelp
Great service and products. They always have the precut and cleaned greens I need as well as a lot of other great products. Definitely recommend this store.

Yelp
Cherry Sprout is a great neighborhood market. Two of their features really strike me: their eclectic bulk section, and their produce sale items. Their bulk selection varies from brown rice to dried mangos, to granola. The bulk section has a great selection of vegan items too, such as soy curls. I've never been to the Red Fox bar, but it's connected, so I imagine if you're fan, that's probably a nice plus. Their produce section isn't the largest, but it does take up about half of the store, and they always have certain items on sale for a great price. These sale items prices are usually lower than New Seasons and rival Safeway. Additionally, a lot of these items are from local farms, and in minimal packaging (ehem, Trader Joes). Since I live in the neighborhood, I consider this place my second fridge. Though their hours aren't amazing (something like 8-8 I think), I completely understand given the minimal traffic in the store. Aside from the great produce and bulk sections, they also carry staples such as mac n cheese, yogurt, bread, chips, salsa, etc. These staple items are minimal, though several of them are offered for both vegans and omnivores. All in all, I really like Cherry Sprout. If only they were open a bit later...

Yelp
I love walking over to Cherry Sprout. It has such a great neighborhood feeling, the staff are friendly, it is not hectic like so many stores. Produce is good quality, they also have beer, wine, ice cream, some bulk foods, dog and cat food, and art: children's art, neighborhood art, fun art. It's such a regular place.
google avatar

Bre C.

Yelp
This is a sweet neighborhood grocery store where I am always able to find great produce and any other staples I am looking for. Friendly staff, calm atmosphere. If you are like me and also like to drink a beer before and/or after grocery shopping, they are also conveniently connected to Red Fox, a cute bar with lots of pictures of foxes on the walls.

Yelp
Because the Cherry Sprout has an old piano in it; because there have been various occasions where I've wandered in in all kinds of ridiculous costume, to find someone playing at the piano and singing, or flipping vinyl behind the counter; because when the season's right, honeycrisp apples are only $.89/lb and acorn squash $.80 each; because there's a good variety of produce gotten from local farms when the getting's good and imported when not and reasonable prices and good stuff you can buy in bulk, and great Mexican and Asian and soul food staples as well as things the hippies like; because I found the perfect rainbow unicorn pinata for a friend's birthday there; because those cookies in the jar are so very delicious; because it's only 8 blocks away and limes are very affordable here; Because this store could really only be found in Portland: I love it so.
google avatar

Emily S.

Yelp
I live very close to this place, and used to visit frequently. However, there seems to be a turnover of employees and for the worse. I went in & upon entering got a cell phone call. Now, I'm a cashier so I know how annoying it is when someone is on their cell phone super loud so I kept quiet and talked less than a minute. For some reason the person on the floor must've been in a bad mood or just cranky, because I went to go ask her a question & she glared at me & walked right by. I thought maybe it was a misunderstanding on my part, but I went to go ask her again & she practically sprinted away. What a B$%#!!!!!! When I went to go check out I tried to be overly cheerful, but the woman at the counter looked like she had better things to do than work. Wish their old employees were still there, maybe I'll go in on a different day from now on.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Cherry sprout is great. This is where I go to buy my Fruits and Veggies when I'm doing a juicing session. If you come back later in the day they have a "juice quality" box you can dig through. Support your local produce vendor stupid.
google avatar

Robert B.

Yelp
I live close to Cherry Sprout, and it's been my go-to grocery spot for several months now. There's a lot to like: they have a great rotating fruit selection with a lot of variety and even a slightly older "juicing box," a bulk section for the basics, and King Harvest hummus (it can't be beat). Further more, everyone who works there is knowledgeable and super friendly, plus they don't appear to judge me when I roll looking my finest on a lazy sunday morning. The prices may be a little higher than safeway, but it's well within reason, and not nearly as absurd as some of the other yuppie groceries around. The only downsides are a very slim meat selection, and a limited number of juices. They also don't have oreos, but I can put that down as my problem.
google avatar

Brandy S.

Yelp
As part of a school project I was in the neighborhood indulging my voyeuristic intentions, (I mean observing the general public and then writing about how they use public spaces - much less exciting). I ran across Cherry Sprout and did a little shopping. I was really impressed with the selection, especially for the size of the store. They had a pretty good bulk section and great produce. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the neighborhood (no matter what your reasons)
google avatar

Ellie K.

Yelp
Awesome people work here who do awesome things. The produce is local, fresh, and CHEAP! Lots of organic options. I only give 4 rather than 5 stars because their other items (bulk, chill, frozen, canned, boxed goods) are very expensive. I understand that they can't buy in bulk due to being a small business, but this keeps them from being the MOST AMAZING THING EVER and instead they are AWESOME.
google avatar

Dylan B.

Yelp
Ah, my neighborhood grocery store. While I generally do my big bi-weekly shopping trip at one of our city's fine supermarkets, it's always great to have a little place like this to walk over to whenever I need a few items real quick. The prices are higher than what you would find at a Fred Meyers or sometimes even New Seasons, but as they are a smaller convenience market, that's totally understandable. The new bulk section is a wonderful addition to their product selection. Lots of great produce- much of which is available organic and/or locally sourced. Good selection of basic grocery staples while also offering lots of more eclectic choices. The staff is always super friendly and helpful and they've usually got some pretty good music playing on the turntable. All in all a very good shopping experience! I feel quite lucky to have them so close (I can see the giant carrot on the roof from where I am currently sitting in my bedroom). Why 4 stars instead of 5? Beer. I've lived right behind this place for a year now and other than more cheap lagers it seems like the beer selection is exactly the same as the first time I was in here. Alright, maybe the great Northwest has just got me spoiled, but is it really too much to ask to mix up your craft beer offerings every now and then? This IS Portland after all. Generally if I'm looking to pick up a six pack I'll go to the dirty corner store a couple blocks away, as their selection is way bigger and better.
google avatar

Amelia S.

Yelp
I adore Cherry Sprout. I moved to the neighborhood over a year ago, and was so happy to discover it one stunning, sunny autumn afternoon. I've moved since then, but stayed in the neighborhood...in part to stay near my job, and get closer to this little gem! I go there a couple times a month for basics and bonus veggies and fruit or beer when I run low for dinners I host. I like their bulk section-good standards and some more interesting shtuff, and not too overwhelming. The staff is way friendly and down to earth. Their produce is mostly organic (!) and fairly priced.
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
It might be small, but Cherry Sprout has everything you need. Fresh and often organic produce direct from local farmers. Great prices on produce too. Fruits, veggies, herbs, milk, eggs, a bulk section, and some packaged goods. They also have quite a large selection of wine and beer. And the staff is so friendly. Love this place.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
This place kills it. Great wine/beer selection, especially for Such a small place all affordable. Amazing fresh local organic produce. So Great to get really Great produce. Great customer service. Also if you want to know a little secret. They sell fresh coffee. So if you want brunch on the weekend I Just walk right in drink coffee while I shop, get farm fresh eggs, and fresh veggies, stroll home and make breakfast in bed for my wife. I know she very much appreciates cherry sprout being so close. She has shown her appreciation in many ways.
google avatar

Venerable V.

Yelp
Love this place. They sell records. Their produce is great - I bought a basket of cherry tomatoes for $1.99 yesterday. Same basket at New Seasons is near $4. 3 limes for a dollar. 4 small lemons for a buck. I mean, come on! It's an easy bike ride for my son and I. A bike ride to New Seasons is a bit long for his young legs and there's no way I want to brave Interstate Freddie's, especially when all I want is a few items. Super nice folks. Great vibe. Perfect for the neighborhood. I dig the green space between the grocery and the bar.
google avatar

Kathy S.

Yelp
Every neighborhood should have a great little grocery store like this - I desperately want one in my neighborhood (Woodlawn).
google avatar

Danny O.

Yelp
Bless you, Cherry Sprout, for being such a wonderful little spot on the block in N Portland. I always look forward to walking in because I know I'll be greeted with a smile. Reggae music is usually bumpin gently on the speakers which makes this place even that more chilllllll. I like the diversity of produce they offer in such a tiny cute place. They also have an extensive soft drink cold case. Beers/Wine selection is great too! Vegan people will appreciate the cookies they sell. Coffee is piping hot for your enjoyment by the cup. I love the mural outside of it. The whole thing just feels like people doing something really care about so that we can come in and enjoy ourselves. Oh and of course the produce too. Check this place out. It's the future of Portland's growing community of concerned food eaters supporting a healthy eating lifestyle.
google avatar

Jamee G.

Yelp
When North Portland got sixteen inches of snow in one night, this place still opened up. It was one of the only markets around and I was so thankful. They have a wide selection of goods, and while it is more spendy than something like Freddy's, you could absolutely find everything you need here. Also, they've got the friendliest staff in town!

Trisha G.

Yelp
Really sad. 1st off this is the only store i could find greens this am. However at 1.25 a bunch it be nice to have a decent size bunch. A total of 7 bunches didnt even fill my pot halfway. So if ita only choice u have then they have the product just make sure to get 2 to 3x more bunchs then you'd get anywhere else.

david p.

Yelp
Awesome people, best local produce around, and everything else you may need in a cozy store.
google avatar

Keaton S.

Yelp
This is such a fun little store that offers your typical essentials for a quick dinner, and they have a bar right behind if you need to pre-game or post-game drink for your grocery trips!
google avatar

Lilibet M.

Yelp
This is one of those stores I find an excuse to swing by. Maybe I need some super cheap local eggs. Or a cold coconut water. With art on the walls and records on the turntable this little grocery market is my favorite place to shop. It has much better prices, a selection that just gets better as they go, and the #4 stops right on the corner. Did I mention that it shares a sliding wall with a bar? What more could you ask for? I also officially pronounce it the Friendliest Store in Town. Sorry New Seasons, I will take real smiles over corporate mandated "warm chatter" any day.

nicole d.

Yelp
I only live 10 blocks from a Whole Foods, so I've been spending most(read every cent) of my grocery money there ,but then I discovered this place today...!! It's twice as far from my house, but I will gladly bike there as the produce is dirt cheap. I could'nt believe I only spent $20 bucks when I went there. (I bought a huge head of cabbage, kale, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, pears, bread, almond milk and some veggie broth.) They have a little bulk section, vegan stuff, normal people stuff, and very friendly staff! And they are open til 7 which is pretty late for a small grocery...this place rules, and I'll be back.
google avatar

Brian N.

Yelp
Bring your own cup and coffee is $1. A great idea to sip while you shop. Lots of great looking produce and a very intimate environment. Great place to also stock up on bulk refills as they carry generic containers that you can use to fill up on olive oil, agave, Bragg's, honey, safflower oil, and even detergents and dish soaps.

Nate S.

Yelp
Nice local spot for groceries. Limited food selection, but surprisingly decent wine selection. Staff is friendly, but can be very slow. Plan about 15 minutes to check out regardless of the length of the line and how many items you have.
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
I like this place. Little market but well stocked with the basics and many organic goods. The heirloom tomatoes, when they have them, so delicious. Staff is friendly too.

Sebastian V.

Yelp
Cherry Sprout has an expansive selection of quality produce for such a small space. The prices are extraordinary. When walking through the market, a temptation arises to buy one of everything, even things not wanted or needed. Red lentils for 1.99/lb. I didn't need them. Had a large bag at home. Bought 'em anyway. Huge red bell peppers for 99¢ ea. How can one, with sound mind, walk past such an item without acquiring it? Et cetera. Cherry Sprout gets an easy 5 stars.
google avatar

S. H.

Yelp
This place is a great little spot with its slight hint of a co-op since its independent and has a couple of bulk items and record albums. I'm on an in-season and local-whenever-possible mission, so it makes me a little disappointed that they do carry tomatoes and avocados from far, far away, but I can't impose my ideals upon everyone all the time, I suppose. I also like avoiding Freddies as much as I can, so it is nice that this place exists in such a convenient location. The selection is fairly substantial and so long as you are not looking for something terribly specific, they'll probably have it. They label what items are local and just recently I bought kale there that was $2 less than Pastaworks was selling it for (same farm too, I believe).
google avatar

Savannah A.

Yelp
Great fresh local produce and grocery items, the selection is wide enough you could do nearly all your grocery shopping here. They also have a nice non-meat section in the deli area for us veggies.
google avatar

c l.

Yelp
Cherry Sprout is a delightful little market. They always have a great selection of fresh produce. You can find bulk goods and be sure to check out their wine section too. Really friendly staff. Support your local business and get your groceries at the Cherry Sprout!
google avatar

Holly B.

Yelp
Nice local market, fresh veggies and fruit and some staples. Prices high on things like milk or other non-vegetable supplies, but worth it for the convenience. I've been in the neighborhood twenty years, these are the second set of owners, they're doing a good job. Lots of hispanic and other ethnic choices as well.
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
Lovely and helpful staff in a clean and pretty grocery store. They host art exhibits and rock shows from time to time and wine tasting from 5-7pm on Fridays. Special props to cashier Brie who brings a joyous, light and grounded energy to every customer she serves.
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
Great selection of local, organic produce plus beer, wine, and everything else you need. Plus their bulk selection is amazing! Their prices are competitive too, especially when they have sale prices on produce. I just wish it was within walking distance of my house, then I'd be there all the time.
google avatar

Jeffrey H.

Yelp
I really love this place. It's a little ray of sunshine that cuts through the sometimes grimy aspects of the less-than-predictable Alberta/Albina neighborhood, and they don't mark their goods up for that benefit either. The vast selection of produce is reasonably priced, and they sell a plethora of other items (such as bulk, frozen/refrigerated foods, and alcohol) that can really help keep you away from the hubbub of major grocery stores. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, and the cashiers are always happy to help. The record player is always going to keep the vibe mellow too! I know that my money goes to a business that really cares about sustainability and responsibility when I shop here. It's win/win!
