Chesapeake Landing is a St. Michaels landmark, a true destination for anyone craving an authentic Maryland seafood experience. Located just outside of the downtown area, it's a bit of a drive, but well worth the trip. We visited on a winter Friday specifically for their renowned weekly seafood buffet, the details of which are cleverly announced on their active social media channels. Our particular Friday feast included unlimited crab cakes, fried oysters, raw oysters, oyster casserole, oyster stew, fried shrimp, mac and cheese, coleslaw, oyster stuffing, and the pièce de résistance, Smith Island cake.
Let me just say, this place was packed. The restaurant and parking lot were overflowing, so reservations (which you must make by phone) are absolutely essential unless you're prepared for a considerable wait. However, the constant flow of people is a testament to the food. The buffet was meticulously maintained, with dishes being restocked frequently, ensuring everything was hot and fresh.
The endless raw oysters were a highlight – plump, fresh, and delicious. The crab cakes, while not featuring lump crab meat (they leaned more towards backfin and claw), were still quite tasty. And the Smith Island cake? A rare and delightful treat, especially on a buffet! It was a perfect ending to the meal.
Overall, Chesapeake Landing delivers the quintessential Maryland seafood experience. It's a bustling, lively atmosphere with a focus on fresh, classic dishes. If you're looking for a true taste of Maryland seafood, Chesapeake Landing is a must-try.
