The 24 Best Restaurants in Ottawa, Ontario, and Gatineau, Quebec | Eater

"As comfortable as the couch it’s named after, this “not-so-greasy spoon” diner does brunch worth lining up for. Classic options like eggs Benedict and waffles are available, but they come with some added flair. Fun mains include the air-fried chicken on challah Benny or Cinnamon Toast Crunch French toast, while sides feature cauliflower poutine and loaded avocados." - Joel Balsam

Service was top-notch here! Me and my partner were in a rush to catch a train and our server was super accommodating by bringing our food in less than 5 minutes, and he was super friendly and nice. Food at chesterfield’s also amazing! The bird nest was so yummy, and the iced coffee with maple syrup was a hit. The 2 egg breakfast was good, not really special. The pancakes were to die for with crispy edges and a fluffy inside. Definitely one of the best brunches in the city, highly recommend!

Tried a new restaurant today after it came highly recommended—and I’m so glad I did. We were celebrating a special family get-together, and the meal did not disappoint. Everyone ordered something different, and each dish was both unique and delicious. I went with a side of Brussels sprouts, and honestly… they were next-level good We also opted for a shared appetizer of plantain with mango salsa… and cappuccinos all around.

Google
Such a great place to meet friends for breakfast or lunch. The menu will definitely have something you’ve been craving for, and love. The food is delicious, plentiful, served hot, and visually appealing. The service is excellent! The staff return often taking care of all your needs with a smile even when the room is packed with patrons and others are waiting. The only thing I’d say is a bit annoying is the acoustics. It is difficult to hear others, maybe because of the tall ceilings echoing the chatter of a full house!

Google
Just wow, so many creative food options! I selected the jerk chicken eggs benny. It was topped on cornbread and comes with 2 sides. I went with a side of Mac n cheese and a side pancake. The meal was incredible and the portion sizes were good; I didn’t get to the pancake, I got to bring it home and it was a very delicious snack later. Their espresso martini’s were excellent - actually well balanced and had a coffee taste! The service was so great, they brought the good vibes! We felt we were welcome and they were so helpful in answering any questions we had. We’re definitely going back to try more food options!!

Google
This place is so good! Very busy and the weekends, so expect to wait 20-30 mins. It's completely worth it thought! Great service and a fun atmosphere. They are very accommodating to gluten-free. I highly recommend the Spice Girl Benny served on a potato cake!

Google
A well deserved five star overall rating, but there are some small areas where they could improve. Location: fairly easy to find and access as it’s on a major street. Parking: They have their own parking lot, but it’s confusing because the signs reference Wonton House, instead of Chesterfield’s. There is also free street parking. Service: second to none. Tay and Damien were hostess, serving, bussing tables, etc. They were phenomenal!! Seriously I can’t give them enough praise. Ambience & aesthetic: I absolutely loved the feel and decor. They had several old school chesterfields in the waiting room. Busyness & wait time. So I had mixed feelings. They are so busy that they have a dedicated waiting room. They are honest and up front about wait times, but pretty much everyone that came even on a weekday had to wait at least 20 minutes for a table. I love this place but I think they should expand since they clearly have a steady flow of customers. Food: the menu was incredible with a huge selection of amazing dishes. I can’t wait to go back. Washroom: the washrooms are immaculate and clean, but they’re in the basement and there doesn’t appear to be a wheelchair accessible option. The washrooms albeit clean, are probably due for a renovation. Overall: amazing, but I think it’s time for them to expand.

Google
An absolute staple in Ottawa. Arguably one of the best brunch spots in the city. Creative dishes, using flavours from all around the world. Decided to go with the chicken and waffle Benny with a side of the roasted spuds, as I was feeling a traditional breakfast. Absolutely hit the spot. I wish there was a little bit more hollandaise but other than that the dish was a hit. Chicken didn’t feel too greasy. Friendly staff and fast service!

If you show up after 8:45am on a weekend, expect a 45 minute - 1.5 hour wait. Plan around it, there's plenty to do in Wellington West while you wait. The experience is worth the wait though. Service is top notch, food is innovative and delicious. The "Fun Guy Melt" (not pictured) and the "Green with Envy Frittata" are fantastic vegetarian dishes here. I got the sides of jerk plaintain & mango salsa with roasted brussel sprouts which were excellent.

Yelp
Frikin' amazing I got the chandler special with a portobello mushroom rather then chicken. This was the best dish I had in years. Probably the only good reason to come to Ottawa. Excellent service as well.

Yelp
The service was incredible despite there being a wait for a table. I loved that they have a "living room" type of space for waiting patrons. We were given an approximate wait time of 20 min but we were seated at around 10 minutes. The food was delicious. The venue is really cute. I can see why its a favourite restaurant for so many and I'm looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
Great place for breakfast. Variety of fresh food for breakfast and brunch. Great service and a lively atmosphere. No reservations so expect a wait but it's worth it. Quite the selection of specialty sides to choose from. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
First come, first served, no reservations here at this tiny eatery. They open at 9 and you MUST get in line by 8:15/8:30am to be one of the first to snag a coveted table or the wait can be close to 2-3 hours long. I don't say this often but this wait for sure is worth it!!!! Owned by a husband and wife duo who opened shop 8 years ago and have come up with every delicious Egg Benny combo you can think of! Their exec chef has been with them for just over a year now and I believe he's a keeper after sampling his special Benny of the day that involved lamb chorizo in the mix. Practically ordered all of the customer and staff favorite menu items and the stand out for us were: Tijuana Nights Benny "Special of the week": I usually don't feature the special of the week as a gave because who knows if any egen it comes back but this one was worth noting! The gamey, slightly spicy lamb chorizo worked really well with the chipotle Holly (aka hollandaise), goat cheese guac, fresh jalapenos and a dusting of flaming hot Cheetos! I know sounds nuts but it all came together beautifully! Foghorn Leghorn: the air fried chicken was perfectly crispy Pan Ranchero: this one was my fave, packed with so much flavor that all melded well together, just needed more tortilla chips. Jerk Benny: Mild jerk flavor so good for those who usually can't take spice Steak Hash LeClaire: This one was a solid just good. Steak was cooked too a nice medium but was a bit chewy. Bird's Nest: Our tables most favorite... Come on potato cake STUFFED with cheese curd... Need I say more? Service was fantastic and our water and coffee cups never were without either without us having to ask or flag someone down. Is it worth this kind of hype? Yes, yes it is to wait in line 30 min before they open again!

Yelp
Chesterfield's Gastro Diner is a cute popular brunch spot located in the Wellington Village neighbourhood in the west end of Ottawa. The restaurant has a casual family diner look with a relaxed atmosphere.  The restaurant doesn't take reservations, so seating is on a first come first serve basis. I visited the restaurant on a Thursday afternoon and waited about 15 minutes to be seated, and would expect wait times to be much longer during weekend peak periods. The waitress who served my table was courteous and sociable. The service she provided overall was great. The timing of when we got seated, had our orders taken, and had our food served was just right.  I ordered the Steak Hash Leclair and a Chilled Sweet Tea during my visit and thought the presentation was beautiful. The steak hash was a little over seasoned in my opinion, and I found the beef a little tough but still enjoyed my meal. The brussel sprouts were especially delicious.

Yelp
I finally made it out to Chesterfield's! I went by myself last week on a rainy fall Monday at 11:30am and there was no line. I was seated immediately at a table for four, the only one available. As I ordered and waited for my food, I felt bad with more folks coming in and me sitting by myself at a big table, so I offered my table up a couple of times, but one of the servers said they were mostly parties of two and they don't share tables, anyway, and to just enjoy myself :) I'm not often in this area and likely won't be back any time soon with a family who doesn't like waiting in line haha so I figured go big or go home. I ordered the jerk benny, upgraded my two sides to the chipotle mac and cheese and blueberry pancake, and got an extra side of Brussels sprouts (an extra $5). I also got a Chesterfield's Caesar because hey, treat yo'self. The jerk benny had chicken breast, cornbread, avocado, two poached eggs, mango salsa, and jerk Hollandaise sauce. You could order a half benny for $18 but I thought why not get the full for an extra $4. It was good, but I think the cornbread was actually my favourite part, super moist. I would've liked dark meat more and the jerk seasoning was heavy on the cloves, moreso on the chicken and not as pronounced in the sauce. I was worried the mango salsa would make it too sweet but there was only a little bit and wasn't overpowering at all. The eggs were poached to a perfect medium, as requested. This main wasn't as big or heavy as I thought it would be and I totally hoovered it down. The chipotle mac and cheese came in its own cast iron skillet, nice and hot. They use cavatappi instead of macaroni, which is great for that extra bite. I loved the toasted breadcrumbs on top and the mac and cheese was made well, cheesy, but I didn't realize I was craving just your standard mac and cheese instead of chipotle flavoured until I had a taste. Still good and glad I tried it, but I'd like to try something else next time. Maybe also a little too acidic combined with the jerk and Caesar. The Brussels sprouts were good, nice and roasted until charred like I like them. I'm not usually a sweets for breakfast kind of person, but dare I say I think the blueberry pancake was my favourite dish. It was a thicker pancake with crispy edges and a fluffy middle, with the centre and top filled with blueberries. The Caesar used house-made Caesar mix and had a double shot of vodka or tequila. I chose tequila on the recommendation of the server. It was garnished with a bacon strip, spicy bean, cheese curd, pepperoncini, and lime wedge. Boozy, spicy, came with snacks, can't go wrong. Food was tasty and presentation was very nice. Service was fast and friendly. I can see why this spot is so popular!

Yelp
I would recommend that you come in early or have a few things to do. This place is popular and busy. We did not plan ahead and had a 1h and a half wait. You add your name on a list and they call you 10 minutes before. Now that this is said. The staff is super friendly and help you make decisions. I took the less exiting meal on the menu. 2 egg breakfast ($15) I took the buffalo cauliflower as my extra. I wish the portion of bean was bigger, I didn't have much to share. The cauliflower had a nice kick to it came with some sour cream. My partner got the bird nest benny ($20). That was the star of the show. He picked sausage as he extra . Then we got the Jamaican benny ($22) poach eggs on top of avocado, chicken and cornbread. For the extra 2 side we took Brussel sprouts And bacon. I really had a great breakfast and will need to be braver with my choices.

Flat-out unbelievable I want to try everything on the menu I think You are lucky to get to eat here

Yelp
We came on a Saturday afternoon and it was pretty busy. We waited about 40 minutes for a table, but it was so worth the wait! We both got eggs benny (foghorn leghorn benny which is with air fried chicken and challah loaf, and jerk chicken benny with corn bread), with different sides. There are a ton of the options for the sides which is pretty cool. Both eggs benny were delicious, and I loved how they changed up what they served it on depending on the benny. The pancake was denser than a regular pancake but the texture was surprisingly good and the blueberry flavour made it pop. I will definitely be back to try more!

Yelp
I've been coming here since 2014 when my friend introduced me in middle school. I'm going into my 4th year of university now, and I'm so glad this place is still around. The chicken and waffles is my favourite thing that I have ever eaten at any place in Ottawa and one of the best things you can eat here. That is a hill that I will die on. The service is great, the vibe is super comfortable and cozy, and despite the long wait, it's so worth it.

Yelp
Good ole Chesterfield's Gastro Diner, I was super excited to try this spot but it was pretty average for me. Another word of mouth recommendation, so I had high expectations. With eggs benedict being one of my favorite brunch spots and with many variations of this meal on the menu, I knew what I planned to ordered. I ordered the buffalo chicken eggs benny, something I've never had before and my mom ordered the blueberry pancakes. I was expecting a big chicken thigh or chicken breast fried with buffalo sauce oozying all over the english muffin, but I received the opposite. It seemed as though my food had been sitting out for a while because it was luke warm and the small piece of chicken had soaked up the buffalo sauce. It wasn't what I expected. However, my mom really enjoyed her pancakes! Like most (not all) spots in Ottawa, you aren't able to make reservations ahead of time. I placed our name on the list and we crashed at a local coffee shop until we received our phone call. I would try this spot again and just stick to something traditional!

Yelp
Our waitress was so friendly and lively, food was delicious, and the vibes were fantastic. We went early on a Thursday morning and lined up at around 8:45. I was surprised to already see people there! The food was indulgent but not overly heavy, and while it's not the cheapest brunch, I feel like it was fairly priced.

Yelp
Chesterfield's ranks amongst the top out of all the brunch restaurants we've tried. Everything we ordered was flavourful. Their menu is unlike your typical brunch menu. Their dishes take inspiration from different cuisines (they offer a Jamaican benny and an Israeli board). The Jamaican Benny was delicious. I enjoyed the sweet and savory combination from the fresh mango salsa. We also had the air fried chicken and waffle benny (off menu item). Chicken and waffle is already one of our favorite brunch items, but it's even better when you top it with a runny egg. We really like their concept of choosing the sides separately from the entrees. Each entree usually includes 1-2 sides. You can choose from an extensive list of regular and specialty sides (for a small extra). We chose three specialty sides (as they did seem really special): the chipotle mac n cheese, the rockefeller mushroom and the apple cinnamon french toast. The mac n cheese was strongly suggested by our waiter. It was tasty, but we were not blown away. My boyfriend really liked the mushroom rockefeller, but I thought they squeezed a bit too much lemon juice on it. Still pretty tasty! We ended the meal on a great note, the apple cinnamon french toast. It was super fluffy, not overwhelmingly sweet and a perfect portion to share. If you want to try out Chesterfield's, just know that they are quite popular and do not take reservations. We went there on a Thursday 10 minutes before opening and there was already a line starting to form. The restaurant is not that big and it quickly filled up within 15 minutes of opening. Our meal ended up costing 70$ (with a coffee and a fresh orange juice). Service was friendly and efficient. Follow for more food content on Insta : @lyliaxfood

Yelp
It's amazing food, hipster environment, great staff! It is pricy, I felt bad once my friend bought my meal. Usually a long line but I'd say it's worth it. Unique food and experience! Brussel sprouts and the eggs Benedict are so delicious.. yum!
google avatar

Ayshia B.

Yelp
Went there for the first time last month and it was INCREDIBLE. Such a creative menu with very well-thought out dishes I have never seen anywhere else. Got the Spice Girls Benny which was an eggs Benedict on house-made cornbread with grilled pineapple, egg, hollandaise, and some sort of salsa. You get to chose two sides from their long list of amazing side options, I was very indecisive but my waiter was so incredibly nice and gave me excellent recommendations so ended up getting the brussel sprouts (I know it sounds weird but they were to die for) and the mac and cheese. Literally mind-blowing. There is usually a pretty big line to get in as they don't take reservations but they will call you when your table is ready and seem very organized so went by fairly quickly.

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
Unfortunately they don't take reservations here so it's first come first serve. As soon as we walked in it smelled delicious in the restaurant. The host promptly wrote down our info and notified us that we would be called when our table was ready. About 20-30 minutes later we were called in. The service was very friendly. We ordered the Berry mimosas which I found a tad tart but still good. We ordered the TLC Benedict which didn't come with an English muffin base but instead mashed potato. Wasn't really my cup of tea so likely won't order that again however the sides we got which were the baked beans, breakfast Sausages and breakfast poutine were delicious. They have a plethora of sides to choose from. Will definitely be back if I come back to visit Ottawa. Sidenote the wifi password is their phone number which is: 6136808990

Yelp
This was our first time at this restaurant, we waited 10 minutes it was worth the wait. The young lady and gentleman who served us was so friendly the food was amazing. My BF had the regular Benny and I had the girl spice benny WOW both dishes was absolutely delicious and filling. Thank you both the servers and compliments to the chef not forgetting the coffee it was so good. Ambiance was fine with us I definitely will recommended this restaurant to others we will be back.

Fatmanur T.

Yelp
The food was good :) the only problem was I put sugar instead of salt by mistake:D so it was a really sugary shakshuka for me. Place was really small and crowded. But overall everything was fine, stuff was very friendly:) thank youu

Yelp
ttawa. And once you've tried it you will completely understand. The flavours are just unreal and the service is incredible. As this is a small spot it only holds a small amount of customers. Are wait time on a Friday was less than 20 minutes which was exactly the time the waitress said. We order the Chicken and Pancakes and the Birds Nest (Special) So my wife has had the chicken and pancake before and I understand why she had it again, the chicken was cooked to perfection and the pancake was a perfect compliment. I had the birds nest and WOW. The Flavours were just u explainable. Just so so so good. Honestly, if you live in Ottawa or are visiting, this is a must go to spot Food 5 Quality 5 Service 5 Atmosphere 5 Overall 5 Open for Dine-In and Takeout

Teresa Imar S.

Yelp
The food here is great! The perfect spot for an spontaneous brunch any day of the week. Now it can be busy. I went on a snowy day and the floors were really wet but other than that I really enjoyed this place and would recommend.
google avatar

Kaitlin E.

Yelp
One of my favourite brunch spots in the city! Their menu allows you to completely customize your dish to your own liking! They have tonnes of sides and specialty sides to choose from, below is one of their eggs benny's and the breakfast poutine. Very delicious food but is on the pricier side. Friendly staff and very cool atmosphere inside!
google avatar

Anita C.

Yelp
I've been here a few times now and it's still one of my absolute brunch spots. The food is phenomenal and the staff is always great. Hands down one of the best eggs benny I've had. Like most other brunch spots, this place is small and cosy so be prepared to wait in line (but it's worth it). The price may be considered a bit pricey than your regular chained restaurant but the quality of food is worth it. There is also a variety of vegetarian options which is very nice. What I like the most about this place is the amount of side options available. Most allow a choice of two and you can pay extra to have more. I don't live close to this part of Ottawa but I make any excuse to come by. I highly recommend it!
google avatar

Hadia G.

Yelp
We went there early Ataursay morning at 9 am (it's opens at 8) and wow already a line up. The place is small and there is barely any space to wait inside so keep in mind you will be lining up outside in the cold! When we got to our table it was the perfect corner for a fmaily of 5 but other groups of 2 had to share the same table! Menu is versatile and very accommodating to all eaters! The meal was very fresh and yummy and we really enjoyed every single thing we ordered! Service was very friendly and made this a very nice brunch that we would definitely come back!

Amazing food. Amazing staff. Made us feel at home. All their food was very well crafted.

Yelp
While this price is slightly above average ($-wise) it is totally worth every $ !. We looked for a nice place to sit with a friend from Montreal (and they know what a good restaurant/Cafe is over there right?) and we heard a lot of good things about this place. My wife is a vegan and not only she had a lot of options, but they can also make a vegan or vegetarian version to several of the plates, just for that they deserve 5 stars! While the plates cost 15-17$ each there is no need to add any side-dishes since you will be full, trust me. So a great tasty place, lots of vegetarian and vegan options what else can we ask for? well their coffee was also awesome and good so a win on all fronts (except my wallet :) )

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this place out since it opened, but they have unusual hours (they never open later than 3pm and are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). Anyway, I finally went for lunch today with a friend of mine and we loved it. I had the Farmer's Salad $14 which was spinach, beets, roasted potatoes, roasted Brussels sprouts, a red onion and tomato salsa, bacon and a boiled egg. It was huge and quite tasty. My only complaints are that the beets and Brussels sprouts were way too salty and the beets were somewhat oily/greasy. Everything else was excellent. The menu said there was pickled turnip in the salad, but I didn't see or taste any. It's a really hearty salad. I have a huge appetite and I was not hungry afterwards. My friend had the crispy chicken sandwich $14 which came with a side and she chose the quinoa salad. Her sandwich looked delicious. It had battered and deep fried chicken, tomato, lettuce, avocado and cheese. She said the chicken was perfect, nice and crispy and not too dry. The quinoa salad had chickpeas, onions, bell peppers and tomatoes. She really enjoyed her meal as well. The decor is really cute. It's a bit eclectic and my friend said it reminds her of being at someone's cottage. Our server was really nice and he was knowledgeable of the menu. I'm don't remember if he introduced himself to us, but the receipt said his name was Dominique. The atmosphere is really laid back and it's a great place to have a leisurely lunch. I regret not having tried this place earlier. I would definitely return to try other items on their menu. It's on Wellington West at Carleton, right across from the Metro. It's on the ground floor of a low-rise building. Wheelchair accessible, although it's snug inside. No parking lot; street parking only.

Yelp
Service was absolutely amazing they were very nice and enthusiastic, really made you feel like you were very welcome. To be honest the tlc Benny didn't taste as great as it sounded but it was still tastes good. The ceasar was amazing, I got medium spice but it wasn't spicy at all in which I love because I can't take spice and the bacon on it was just perfect. No complaints about this meal or the service was so ever.

Yelp
Honestly, the brunch in this place is soo goood, i'd drive to Ottawa just for this. We came on a fine Saturday morning, there were just a couple of people ahead of us and we were seated within 10 minutes. The environment is cozy and hospitable, they have an open Kitchen model so you can see everything being made, they also use Air Fryer to do their chicken so its definitely not oily. FOOD: My 3 Favourite things to eat in the morning: Chicken and Waffles, Eggs benedict and Pancakes, they had ALL of them! Chicken and Waffle Eggs benedict was PERFECT, felt like the dish came to life directly from my dreams! Also, I have never seen a pancake like the one made here before, its very fluffy, a little caky but very light, it was very unique and flavourful, they had good quality maple syrup to go with it. My girlfriend had Ploughmans and it was pretty neat as well. The only thing i didn't like was their breakfast poutine, homemade style fries just doesn't work without poutine imo.
google avatar

Mimi J.

Yelp
I came on a Sunday to try their brunch, as a couple of my girlfriends raved about it, and go often! I went around 1pm; they close at 2pm, but at 2pm, they did not rush the customers, and there were still a few tables eating. When you walk in, you'll notice that the kitchen is open, and it's a very large and bright space. Decorations are unique, and really add character to the place! Now onto the food that I tried: - Ploughman's board: I really enjoyed the fried chicken that went with this; combined with bites of baked beans, pickles, tomatoes, etc, it was a mix of flavours that went well together. I only wish the cheese muffin was more moist; it was a bit dry. I upgraded my side to the breakfast poutine, and WOW; I was blown away by the quality of it! It had crispy potatoes, cheesy sauce, and more cheese on top that was, in some parts, crispy! I seriously would of just ordered a plate of the poutine for breakfast! - Breakfast banh mi: this was super hearty! It had pork belly and a fried egg, so it's messy to eat, but super satisfying with the layers of flavours. They ran out of small buns, so the bun was upgraded to a larger one! The side chosen was the lentil soup which was chock full of hearty beans and herbs, and was a great addition to the sandwich! - There is a page on the menu that has new items that they are trying out; these dishes looked really interesting, and not like your "typical" brunch dishes! The Breakfast banh mi was part of this menu. Service was really friendly and hospitable. There was a dish that looked amazing as it passed by me, so I asked the server what it was, and he informed me it was the Jamaican poutine (definitely ordering it next time)! Price is normal for brunch, but for the quality of the ingredients, and the creativity of the dishes, I find it a great value. As I was eating, I was already thinking to myself that I wanted to come back for brunch, and try something else! Overall, I was super impressed, and haven't been so happily surprised by a brunch menu in a long time. Definitely will be back as soon as possible, so stay tuned for more food pictures from here! :)

Yelp
After a late night of post-wedding festivities, Sunday brunch is the natural next step - I enjoyed the "Quavo Rancheros" (rancheros sauce, over easy egg, bacon, cheese, avocado, cilantro), with a side of a loaded avocado, and the best cornbread I've ever had.
google avatar

Stephen C.

Yelp
Hmmm this is a hard one. The place is located at west borrow, went here for Sunday and the place is pack line up through out the door. The place was small and you could here what your neighbours are talking about. For food wise a good amount of options, almost too much. You could customize your dish with at least 20 side options. I ordered the special jerk chicken, which was dry, ask my eggs to be scrambled came poach but didn't bother to address it since the food took 35 mins to arrive already. Ordered the tourtier which was dry and strong in all spice flavour. Not a fan. Pie was hot as well. Coffees were topped up generously. Service was friendly. A good neighbourhood gem, but maybe coming on the weekends where kitchen is slammed isn't a good idea.
google avatar

Nikki C.

Yelp
Friendly staff! Be prepared, there might be a chance you'll wait for a table - we were a party of 5 at 10:30am. Primetime! But we didn't mind because the guests were visibly enjoying their food! There are plenty of options.... also vegan options!! :) will definitely return here when we are back in town!

Yelp
This place is quirky and has a great brunch menu, the artwork and seating makes it quirky and the staff are kind and helpful. I tried the veg heny which comes with two free sides. The sides I tried was bbq cauliflower and the plantain mango salad. The plantain was a bit over cooked, but the eggs were delicious, in a savoury sauce with a fresh avocado on a veggie patty.

Yelp
This is a basic diner with a range of high-calorie greasy breakfast options. If this is what you are craving, you will enjoy it! We found sausage inedible because it was pure grease. While the grease level is a matter of taste, there is one thing I found absolutely unacceptable... When you order coffee or tea with milk, they bring a plate with those microscopically-tiny-basic-office individual milk portions for ants which create a ton of trash(!) because you need to add 6/7 of those to actually get at least a bit of milk in your tea/coffee. This is not sustainable, there is also no joy in drinking lukewarm coffee/tea because you are adding cold milk. There are at least three proper ways to do this: 1) pour the milk in customer's tea/coffee in the kitchen, 2) bring a small pot with milk to the table so that customers would be able to pour it themselves, 3) have a milk/cream station with milk cartons customers can use. There is a clear desire to be cool and trendy without the consideration of details that add up to quality. This can be an enjoyable experience or a disappointing one depending on your level of grease tolerance, love for coffee/tea, and attention to detail!

Yelp
Lots of choice for breakfast and lunch here, great menu and you get to choose your sides. Be early though, this is a very popular place! The people working here are very friendly and they work incredibly hard! Yet they still take time to explain things and for just a chat. I had the classic benny w bacon and Brussels sprouts and cornbread as sides. The benny was good but the sprouts were great and the cornbread was amazing! Best cornbread I've ever had. I'd definitely go back here on my next trip to Ottawa

Yelp
The service was so bad!!! 1. Took us 2 hours to have brunch! There was 1 waiter it was around 40 mins until we finally got seated then 2. we ordered once again took forever for a taco salad and a chicken and waffle order to come ...the group after us got their food before us even tho they were 3 and it was just me & my husband. 3. I ordered the angry taco salad the avocado peel was in there for some reason I told the waitress she didn't even bother to tell the kitchen which you can see from my table 4. The bill was wrong! They were going to overcharge us luckily my husband noticed and once again took forever to get our waiter to come back to adjust the bill Overall I don't think I'll be coming back..it really ruined my Saturday it just ate up the morning which really bothered me. What a waste of time

Yelp
Prior to coming, we read a good number of reviews and were very excited to try this place. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing. We arrived at around 11am on Good Friday and it was packed. We were seated in about 20-25 mins. We didn't mind the wait at all as we got to read through the menu and eye what other people ordered. Also, considering it was a holiday and all the raving reviews on Yelp and TripAdvisor, this was expected. FOOD: I ordered the "French Canadian Tourtière + 2 sides, ($16)" and my boyfriend ordered the "Steak Hash ($16)." For my sides, I got pita chips & baba ghanouj and upgraded to a breakfast poutine for an additional $2. I also got a cup of coffee ($2.5). The Steak Hash consisted of: steak / roasted spuds / brussels sprouts / corn / onions / red peppers / mixed cheese topped with over easy eggs. This dish was bland and boring. It literally tasted like the chef just threw in all these ingredients and forgot to add any spices/seasoning. The French Canadian Tourtière was topped with an over easy egg. It was a slice (1/4) from a whole tourtière, and by the time the server presented it to me, it wasn't even remotely warm - more like... room temperature, as if it had been sitting outside for a while. The taste was nothing special or spectacular. Similar to the steak hash, it was very bland. Did the kitchen run out of seasonings or something?? The pita chips were hard and crunchy (as expected). The baba ghanouj was cold (which is expected) and it tasted like nothing. Literally. I didn't even bother dipping my pita chips in it because it didn't enhance or add flavour to the chips in any way. The breakfast poutine consisted of spuds, cheese, green onions. It was covered in a subtle-tasting hollandaise sauce that had a tang of sourness. Would not get this side again (or dish) again. 1 star was given because of the service. The service was friendly and they were quick to take our orders. My water and coffee were refilled in a timely manner. Also, I know the eggs look like they were cooked over easy, but trust me, they were not. It was not runny at all. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Yelp
A line butted out the door and we were almost discouraged to enter. But! The people waiting in front of us kept dazzling us with tales of the great food here. And so we succumbed and waited for 10-15 minutes, not even bad for Thanksgiving Sunday. There's a big emphasis on cooking with steam and "air-frying" here. I ordered the chicken and waffles and found the chicken to be not quite as crispy as the real-fried thing, but pretty good. A heavy spice on bird itself, and it came with waffles, fresh fruit, chipotle mayo and maple syrup. The flavour combinations were endless. I also enjoyed on the menu that you could pick your sides for most meals, and what an array of sides they have! I'd come back to sample the mushrooms Rockefeller. They also has a "no melon fruit cup", which is just so in tune with what the public wants! This is a family-run business that deserves your attention and dollars.

Yelp
Located right beside the Metro on Wellington West, Chesterfield's is a cozy little restaurant that serves up quite the brunch. I came here this past Sunday with my fiancee and we were seated very shortly after arriving just past 10 a.m. There was a small group of people waiting for a table, but most were seated quickly. Chesterfield's has an interesting menu, with unique twists on your usual brunch fare. You're also allowed to choose what sides you want, and they have quite the selection of sides (both regular and premium sides). I ordered the special, which was a jerk chicken benedict, served on corn bread, with poached eggs, avocado and a jerk hollandaise. For my sides, I had the buffalo cauliflower and sausages. My fiancee had the chicken and waffles, which came without sides. But our waitress assured us the portion was substantial. When the food arrived, it looked and smelled delicious. One bite into the benny was all I needed to know that I was in for a treat. Well seasoned chicken and a fantastic hollandaise made this a great dish. The chicken and waffles my fiancee had was also superb, with fluffy waffles and great chicken. It's not like your usual southern style chicken and waffles, but it was very well put together. The buffalo cauliflower packed a bit of a kick, but dipped in ranch sauce, it was just right. And my side of breakfast sausages came with three additional links, which was a surprise. The service we received throughout was also fantastic, with a staff member checking up on us and regularly topping up our coffee and tea (ps. the regular drip coffee was really good!). All in all, we had a great meal and we'll definitely be back. I hope the jerk chicken benny makes its way to the regular menu sometime!

Yelp
Great food and great service. Lots of menu variety and my coffee cup was kept full. I never had to look for my server and the food came out quickly - and it was delicious! 45 minute wait was worth it.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food. I had the eggs Benny and loved the hollandaise sauce. The blueberry pancakes were delicious (by far the best I have had in a long time). We will return someday and I definitely recommend. I like their coffee mugs too. It is quite small and you might have to wait a while depending on what time you arrive.

Yelp
Great, cozy restaurant with delicious food. Service was amazing too. I had the fancy guy thing and it was great - lots of veggies! We also got the baked avocado and corn bread - they were almost better than the main - so delish. My friend had the veggie benny and said it was fantastic. There were so many sides to choose from - 100% want to return so I can try more!

Yelp
The sides are everything as they're so tasty. I had a frittata which was delicious. My wife had chicken and pancakes, they were spicer than she expected. The Mac and cheese side was awesome too. Very busy for brunch so expect to wait to get in, but worth the wait if it's not too long.

Yelp
Amazing and delicious breakfast, as the lines out the door attest! The Benny of the day was tried twice during my trip to Ottawa.

Yelp
We were in town for a rare Ottawa visit and were meeting up with friends for breakfast - three families consisting of 6 adults + 4 young kids, including our own small family. We were excited to try Chesterfield's. It was close, cute with lots of couches inside. The menu looked good. We were greeted by a man who didn't smile and seemed slightly annoyed that our group was bigger than their typical table size. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated together, where we made the best of a smaller seating. We were happy to all be together, however, the grumpy man who seated us would not let us add another table and strongly encouraged us to split up and take another table several metres away. One of our friends obliged and we didn't get to speak with them for the rest of our breakfast. Our waiter was equally charming. He offered a couple caffeinated and herbal teas. When I asked if they had anything fruity, he questioned why I couldn't find one in the selection he provided. When he came back to our table, I had to ask for water. He brought water for the adults but not our daughter. It's unfortunate - the food was good and a little different than typically offered, but the only thing warm and fuzzy inside are the worn out old couches. I would not recommend this place if you are looking for a pleasant morning experience!

Yelp
This is a great place! Fun atmosphere with different tables, chairs, mugs, couches / Chesterfield and benches. The food is delicious and large portions. I had the Ploughman's Lunch and the chicken was so moist and satisfying. If you have a chance to spend some time in a cool place that has great food...visit.

Yelp
Decent enough place for breakfast and brunch. Food was decent. Water tasted strange. And the coffee was not great. So 3/5 it is

Yelp
This place is cozy, seating is limited yet we didn't have to wait for long before we were seated when we went for Sunday brunch. Service was quick and friendly. I can only vouch for the one item on the menu I tried but damn that chicken and waffles was good!!
