I finally made it out to Chesterfield's! I went by myself last week on a rainy fall Monday at 11:30am and there was no line. I was seated immediately at a table for four, the only one available. As I ordered and waited for my food, I felt bad with more folks coming in and me sitting by myself at a big table, so I offered my table up a couple of times, but one of the servers said they were mostly parties of two and they don't share tables, anyway, and to just enjoy myself :)
I'm not often in this area and likely won't be back any time soon with a family who doesn't like waiting in line haha so I figured go big or go home. I ordered the jerk benny, upgraded my two sides to the chipotle mac and cheese and blueberry pancake, and got an extra side of Brussels sprouts (an extra $5). I also got a Chesterfield's Caesar because hey, treat yo'self.
The jerk benny had chicken breast, cornbread, avocado, two poached eggs, mango salsa, and jerk Hollandaise sauce. You could order a half benny for $18 but I thought why not get the full for an extra $4. It was good, but I think the cornbread was actually my favourite part, super moist. I would've liked dark meat more and the jerk seasoning was heavy on the cloves, moreso on the chicken and not as pronounced in the sauce. I was worried the mango salsa would make it too sweet but there was only a little bit and wasn't overpowering at all. The eggs were poached to a perfect medium, as requested. This main wasn't as big or heavy as I thought it would be and I totally hoovered it down.
The chipotle mac and cheese came in its own cast iron skillet, nice and hot. They use cavatappi instead of macaroni, which is great for that extra bite. I loved the toasted breadcrumbs on top and the mac and cheese was made well, cheesy, but I didn't realize I was craving just your standard mac and cheese instead of chipotle flavoured until I had a taste. Still good and glad I tried it, but I'd like to try something else next time. Maybe also a little too acidic combined with the jerk and Caesar.
The Brussels sprouts were good, nice and roasted until charred like I like them.
I'm not usually a sweets for breakfast kind of person, but dare I say I think the blueberry pancake was my favourite dish. It was a thicker pancake with crispy edges and a fluffy middle, with the centre and top filled with blueberries.
The Caesar used house-made Caesar mix and had a double shot of vodka or tequila. I chose tequila on the recommendation of the server. It was garnished with a bacon strip, spicy bean, cheese curd, pepperoncini, and lime wedge. Boozy, spicy, came with snacks, can't go wrong.
Food was tasty and presentation was very nice. Service was fast and friendly. I can see why this spot is so popular!
