We had such a lovely dinner at Beckett’s Glebe! My partner started with the strawberry foie gras. Honestly, I didn’t expect to like it, but after I had a bite, I got pleasantly surprised. It was my favorite dish among all the food we had. I’ll definitely order that next time instead of the escargot for my entrée.
For my main, I had the roasted Canadian clawed lobster. It was cooked perfectly, flavorful, with just the right amount of chew, and not overdone at all. My partner had the Scotch fillet, which he said was spot on. I’m not a huge foodie, so it wasn’t really my thing, but he’s all about food and cooks himself. When he said it was great, I knew it was the real deal, compared to the last couple of French restaurants we’ve tried.
For my entrée, I went with the escargots en cocotte. Normally, I like my snails the classic way on the snail plate, but cracking open the pastry lid was kind of fun. I mostly ordered it out of curiosity since it’s such a popular dish.
For dessert, I chose the honeycomb and vanilla crème brûlée, but it ended up being a bit too sweet for my taste. But that's just my taste buds. My partner’s coffee cherry crush, though, was amazing. Wish I’d ordered that instead! There will definitely be next time.
Also, the staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive. The manager was knowledgeable about wines and had a great sense of humor, not in a trying-too-hard way, just naturally funny and easy to chat with. The atmosphere at the restaurant was warm and inviting, and it really made the whole dining experience special.
