Chez Davia

"This likeable establishment, run by the same family since 1953, was founded by grandma Davia and taken over in 1985 by mum, Alda, now retired. Since 2016, Pierre Altobelli, whose impressive CV features star establishments in France and Asia, concocts tempting recipes rich in the aromas of Nice. Every detail is perfect, and the ingredients are meticulously sourced. Served in a welcoming vintage bistro décor steeped in authenticity. Heavenly!" - Michelin Inspector

My husband and I had lunch here on a Saturday and it was fantastic. The service was friendly and helpful, the food was cooked and seasoned to perfection, and the wines were delicious. A friend recommended it and I will recommend it to others and come back whenever I'm in the area. Everything was fresh and delicious!

I chose Chez Davia for a special dinner while visiting Nice, based on its Michelin Bib Gourmand recognition. While the food was solid, the service left us genuinely disappointed. Early in the meal, our server asked where we were from. After learning we were American, he made an unexpected political remark — which felt inappropriate and unprofessional in a hospitality setting. From that moment on, he noticeably disengaged, and other staff ended up handling our table. It left the evening feeling cold and unwelcoming. There were other issues as well: a €50 bottle of red wine was served overly warm with no acknowledgment, and the dessert we’d looked forward to (crème brûlée) was unavailable. Instead, the only option was a lemon tart that had been sitting out in the open on a warm evening — not ideal for a restaurant at this price point. For a €200 meal for two, I expected a more gracious and attentive experience. Unfortunately, the hospitality didn’t match the promise of the kitchen — or the price.

We chose this restaurant because it’s listed as a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide, so we were expecting great food at good value. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to that. The service was quite indifferent. As non-French speakers, we asked for recommendations, but the waiter didn’t make an effort to assist or guide us. We ended up ordering two dishes that we later found out weren’t even among the restaurant’s specialties — something that could’ve easily been avoided with a bit more care from the staff. The food was very average overall — the ratatouille was actually quite good, but the rest of the meal felt bland and overpriced. We spent over €200 for two people and walked away feeling like it wasn’t worth it. What really put us off was seeing a waiter take bread from a table that had already been used and bring it to another table. On top of that, the bread we were served ourselves was noticeably stale. It might be better on another day, but for us, it just didn’t reflect the quality or value we expected from a Bib Gourmand restaurant.

Went to Davia on a Saturday for lunch. The food was exceptional with a seasonal menu. I'm a big calamari adddict so that's the first thing that I ordered. Crispy, fresh and suuuper tasty. Served with a little mayo. Also had poutine toasts, was fresh too and I could taste the sea as I bit it. Main course was thr aioli. Perfectly executed, codfish was moist and tender. A couple of sea snails, perfectly cooked veggies and herbs. Don't go anywhere else for aioli. Service was fine and knowledgeable, I would say that they should serve dishes at the same time on a table. I was almost finished my started when the my father received his. Atmosphere is veeeery quiet. I would say too quiet. Prices are in the higher side of the spectrum too. Highly recommend if you can afford it and like well crafted food.

We had a real nice evening on the Terrasse of Chez Davia. All meals were very delicious; we had: Homemade Ravioli filled with mangold, stuffed sardines, Tuna-Ceviche, lamb-stuffed vegetables, Sole and finally a real nice dessert - just have a look at the pic! Service was very friendly, wine was good and we enjoyed the whole evening there.

Excellent and inspired food. Great service and excellent mood and atmosphere. The winelist need a bit of update to match the food and the bread was beautiful but needed salt and allow the taste of true sourdough. Very recommendable 👏👏

Google
Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant and well deserved. Had dinner here on a Friday in May 2025. It was packed, but the service was attentive and timely. The food is local, seasonal, and fresh. I had the anchovies (pictured) and the daube. Incredible. Lovely, classic room. Interesting wine list. Wonderful atmosphere. The staff are friendly and work hard. Highly recommended. It is small. Book ahead!

Google
Our experience at Chez Davia was amazing. Rain made terrace seating unavailable; the dining room was packed! The barbajuans were prepared and seasoned beautifully. Our main course was daube nicoise, beef stew with beets and stone fruit. For dessert don’t miss the lemon tart. Service was exceptional too.

Yelp
We visited Chez Davia on our honeymoon. We found the restaurant on the Michelin Guide app and booked a 9:15 pm dinner reservation. The staff was attentive, helpful, and recommended a less expensive bottle than we'd picked out. As other reviews raved, the lemon tart is not to miss!

Yelp
We went as a large group of 6 and were able to order pretty much a lot of different dishes from the menu. While I heard different things about this restaurant, I absolutely loved it. It is a small and cozy place and our table was dead centre. We had the grilled sardines, that were delicious and the ratatouille that was nicely presented. The stuffed cabbage was perfectly cooked and the daube was fork tender. The rougets were fresh. The deserts were crowned by the tarte au citron ; The crème brûlée was not too sweet and finished a great meal. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
Right by our hotel which was convenient! Staff was so friendly, food was so flavorful! There wasn't 1 thing that didn't taste like a 10/10 dish! The view is so cute outside too because you're tucked in a street not on a main stretch!

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing! We found as it was recognized as part of Michelin guide. Highly recommend! The chef, staff and food were all above my expectations. This is a typical Nicoise kitchen even with menus written on paper with colored markers! The food was truly out of this world. Perhaps one of my best meals in Nice. We ordered - Pistachio pasta - sardines salad, excellent! - tuna tartare, amazing! The freshest tuna that I've ever tasted - fried calamari, this looks bizarre but was amazing! Fresh local calamari from the region - duck torte, which was amazing! Mixed with real duck meat and foie gras - filet of sole, which was also amazingly tasting - cod fish stew - desserts of crème brûlée lavender and lemon cake Overall this restaurant was incredible and really delicious! Highly recommend! Make reservations!

Yelp
Miserable service - was harassed by 3 waiters to order more, waiter intentionally took down wrong orders, chef came out for a diatribe. Servings minuscule.

Yelp
Had dinner on Friday evening. We were very disappointed, not what we expected at all. The food is just ok, but overpriced and the worst service we got. The restaurant was very busy, too busy I think. The waiter that served us was very grumpy, he seemed to be very tired thus very impatient and very rude to the guests. I don't think we will ever come back.

Yelp
My wife and I ate dinner here on Sunday Sep 29, 2019. Next door to our hotel - Hotel Gramaldi. The place is a multi-generation restaurant that serves great Niçoise selections for a great price I'd like to add. We enjoyed burrata as a starter and my wife enjoyed the Coq au vin and I had the fish of the day that was simply prepared and was delicious. We sat just ourside (our preference), but there is a nice inside space for you to enjoy a meal.

Yelp
Best food my wife and I ate in Nice. When we asked if there were any free tables, the kind and accommodating staff made us a reservation for about 20 minutes later instead of turning us away as many restaurants do. We both got the prix fixe menu and they really took care of us. Hidden gem, definitely worth a visit.

Paul K.

Yelp
The best place in Nice. I've been coming here for over 20 years. Will hopefully be going there tonight.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place. Overpriced, mediocre food, extremely slow service. There was 1 waiter for approximately 21 tables. It took 45 minutes to get our check. We even had to wait when we finally went inside and tried to pay.

Yelp
It was a solid meal at Chez Dania however my wife and I walked away very disappointed. The first issue is that I utilized Yelp to find a restaurant in Nice, Chez Davia was the clear choice. The problem is while researching I read these wonderful reviews of 3 or 4 entrees that I was looking forward to trying unfortunately I did not know that the menu changes often, often enough that the menu is hand written and photocopied. The Duck, the steak, the chicken cordon bleu all would have been choices I would have made....unfortunately none of those items were on the menu. Given the circumstances we went with the Salad Niçoises, Chicken Coq Au Vin and the Mussels with Frites. All three items were very good but I had my mind on the other items. The service was pretty bad, the waiter didn't speak English which is more than fine however he lost patience and treated us like second class citizens. My entree came out and my wife's did not for at least another 10 minutes and that's unacceptable on any terms. Again the meal was great, the Coq Au Vin has inspired my wife and I to look up recipes for it....hello Julia Child. The mussels were small and delicious, they were cooked in a wonderful sauce that I dipped bread into. The frites that came with the mussels were simple but delicious. Kudos to the Restaurant for offering copies of the menu in French and English. If you speak French and plan on visiting this restaurant I would call to find out what's on the menu prior to dining. The wine selection was very good and the prices were reasonable.

Yelp
My sister and I went here right when they opened and we were the first ones. They were able to seat us without a reservation but the waiter said the kitchen needs 10-15 minutes to open. That was fine with us so we ordered drinks in the meantime. A few minutes later, the place started filling up. About 20 minutes later, we finally we able to order our food. We were the first to order our food so we expected to be served first. We ordered a cheese plate as a starter and I ordered the pesto pasta as my entree and my sister ordered the mushroom ravioli. It took about 15-20 minutes for us to get our cheese dish. We were almost finished our drinks at that point. The cheese plate was so disappointing and definitely not worth it for 12 euros. There was 4-5 tiny pieces of cheese on the plate. It took about 15 minutes to get our entrees. Even though we ordered first, they served 2-3 tables before us which was ridiculous. The entrees were also disappointing. Both of our entrees were the size of an appetizer. The pesto pasta was almost cold and tasted bland. The pesto pasta was 12 euros and the mushroom pasta was 26 euros. After we finished our entrees, we didn't even want to get dessert because we knew it would take another 20 minutes just to get a slice of cake. We were there way longer than we wanted because of the SLOW service. Overall, I would avoid this place. It's too overpriced. I wouldn't mind paying more money but the service and food isn't worth it. Their menu was also handwritten on a sheet on paper in sloppy handwriting which is very unprofessional for a "high-end" restaurant. Their menu items change constantly so be aware that any menu you see on Yelp, will be different in the restaurant. The menu I had was really lacking. Besides the 2 entrees we got, the rest of them were either fish or rabbit and none of that look appetizing. The interior is really small and only has about 8-9 tables. It's really cramped so don't except to sit comfortably. TLDR: AVOID. Extremely slow service. Overpriced. Bad food.

Yelp
Went here for lunch and both the food and the service were top notch. Had the best salade niçoise, and the fish plat was perfectly cooked and delicious. Desserts were amazing, as well. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Amazing little restaurant off the touristy area of Nice. They owners are immigrants and the menu shows influences of their Italian heritage. The couple, probably in their late 70s, are still working there greeting, busing tables, cutting desserts and taking orders (quite impressive!). My sister got the chicken cordon blue (very good!) and I got the ratatouille and fish dish (yum!). We split dessert which was really quite good- a citrus tarte. Personally, I would have liked to have had a chocolate option-- is it really dessert or just an appetizer if it doesn't have chocolate in it? But the tarte was excellent. I would however tell you to call for reservations. The restaurant is small and they turned away several people for lack of a reservation. And for those of you who do not speak French, yes, there are English menus and most of the staff speaks English quite well!

Yelp
AMAZING!! My friends and I really wanted crime brûlée on our last night in France and we walked in this restaurant and they gave us the last crème brûlée. It was the best crème brûlée ever.. we could taste every ingredient in the creme brûlée. Also, the chef was the nicest chef I've ever met and very accommodating... it was a packed restaurant but they still made it happen. 10/10. Dream come true. Please go to this place. It's delicious, pretty, and the staff are very welcoming and friendly!! Love!!!

Yelp
We went to Chez Davia with our seven-year old who is a notoriously picky eater. He not only tried the pesto noodles that were a special, he hovered them up with gusto. Everything we tasted here was good. We managed to get a reservation by popping in earlier in the day, and I'm glad we took the time as we saw crowds of people waiting later in the evening.

Yelp
We had a late dinner at Chez Davia last night. The restaurant is right next to our hotel, Le Grimaldi. We had the sole fish dish and the lamp sliders. We noticed that the owner was also there to ensure that the staff was meeting her high standards. This place is not touristy. It's a local restaurant with mostly Nice residents. The food was amazing and absolutely delicious. It is the quality of food you'd find at fine dining restaurants. The food was far more superior than the fine dining experiences my wife and I have had in the states. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
We decided to have Italian before we left Nice. Situated on a quiet street and away from the mega cafes throughout nice. Seats around 40 with the outdoor patio. Chez Davia literally next to our hotel. The food is -5 stars. The ratatouille is served cold and is excellent. Two of had the spaghetti in a fra Diablo sauce with seafood. Big portion. Very heavily seasoned compared to US "version". Very good. All of our food was great. Service was sporadic, some of which could have been language barrier. This is what keeps this being a 5 Star.

Yelp
Small family-run place. Saturday night dinner. Very busy time. Cafe is fully packed. Beef ragu was tender and full of flavors. Desert - the best pears poached in red wine I've ever tasted! But! The worst service I've ever accounted. Had to calm my husband. We were sitted and waited for at leasr15 minutes - no attention whatsoever...Guests came after us, were kissed, sitted and served. We are still waiting. ...Long story short - we finally asked for (caught a waiter when he was passing by) and ate dessert, and left without being served any coffee or tea...just couldn't take any more wait...We came in around 8 pm, and it was already after 10... So, for authentic French cooking -100% recommend, but there are no guarantees if you would be treated with respect and minimum attention...

Yelp
We were recommend this restaurant by a friend who lives in Nice. It was a very pretty family run restaurant with the excellent fresh food and friendly service. Unlike many other restaurants in Nice, they tried to communicate with you in English. I wanted to try all recommendations of the day that were Nicoise and Mediterranean. I especially loved the wine list they had. HIGHLY recommended!

Yelp
Quaint little French café with good food. Family owned and run. Very nice people warm comfortable setting and reasonable menu and prices. I had the scappolini mushroom plate and French onion soup. My colleague has the ravioli with beef juice. Both were very good meals and the soup was perfect. I finished the meal with a chocolate mousse and a caramel flan. Least expensive meal since I've been in France but very tasty.

Yelp
Had the daube de la provencale, escargot, salade nicoise and mussels. Terrific food and off the beaten path. Owner was very friendly and even snapped a photo with us.

Yelp
A great escape from the crowded promenade just a few blocks away. Classic French cooking that is simple and delicious. The restaurant was busy, but not full. No reservation was required even though I went on a Saturday night, and service was excellent. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Nice. I hesitated to review only because I don't want them to get known by foreigners (tourists) and get ruined for their local customers. But I recently noticed a lot of reviews in English and wanted to reinforce all of the 4 and 5 stars. Everything they say is true. Food is fantastic and this is a real family affair. Please don't ruin it.

Yelp
My friend brought me here one night after her second visit. She was raving highly about it. Now I understand. Everything was fresh, very well-seasoned, and the staff were absolutely wonderful! Very highly recommended. Will definitely come back!

Yelp
Cute restaurant. Four of us went to dinner. Sauces were rich and tasteful but the veal was tough and the coq vin too dry. Onion soup was delicious.
google avatar

Sarah Samantha D.

Yelp
Came here for a Sunday lunch. Barely anyone there. Just ordered pasta with pesto. Simple, but tasty. There were some other vegetarian dishes, mainly entres though. But maybe they have other things for dinner. On Tuesday we tried to eat there, but they opened at 7 in the evening and we were there at 5. Anyway, I liked this place in its simplicity and I'd gladly go back there.

Yelp
One of Nice's best kept secrets. Fresh local ingredients prepared to perfection. My clam marinière appetizer was the best I've ever had. My entree, the Daube à la Povençale (beef stew) was simply amazing. My husband had the stuffed sardines and raved about it with every bite. If you want to dine like a Nice local, this is the place.
google avatar

Yelp
This was the best meal of our trip! They had a menu in English of things they routinely make but they also had a hand written menu with the seasonal specialties. This was in French and we were at a bit of a loss but our waiter, who we think might have actually been the chef, came out an read us the entire French menu and explained what everything was. And it was all delicious! We had the most amazing polenta with blue cheese, olives, olive oil as well as this really great pasta dish with what was kind of like reduced beef stew on top. And the desserts, yum. One of the best chocolate mousses I've ever had. Highly recommend!

Randy K.

Yelp
Very good restaurant, with attentive service. My wife's langoustines with a garlic and butter sauce with potatoes was outstanding. Upon her request, they took the heads off for her and peeled the shrimp. Serving potatoes with this scampi-like dish was a very nice change from the usual pasta. I had the "menu", a good value @ 29 euros. The fish soup was good, but I've had better. The "niçoise-style" fish stew was a very tasty local dish made with cod and veggies. A little too heavy on the olives for my liking, but still very good. The dark chocolate mousse was very good, but my crème brûlée was a little too watery, although with a good taste. Pleasant setting on a platform outside.
