I chose this restaurant for a special lunch based on its status as a Michelin Bib Gourmand and was moderately disappointed in the meal. The food was “good” but not great, and the value is questionable.
I had a reservation and arrived spot on time but waited in the doorway for almost 5 minutes without anyone acknowledging my presence. As a result I stepped inside thinking they had not seen me and I needed to approach the host’s station or something, at which time I was harshly told to wait outside.
One waiter, who seemed to be in charge, took my order. I chose the set menu. My starter was delivered by another server, and when I finished the starter a third server picked up my plate and asked if I wanted dessert. Perplexed, I informed him I had ordered the set menu and he just walked away. The main and the dessert were delivered without issue. The standout was the Clafoutis for dessert.
Overall this was a memorable experience, but for the wrong reasons. It feels overly crowded with tables, possibly more than the staff can handle. The other diners appeared to be a mix of locals and tourists, but has more of a touristy vibe. The service was just clumsy, rushed, and unprofessional. Over my past visits to restaurants in France I have visited many that were as busy and bustling as Chez Davia, but none with service delivered in quite this manner.
As a note, I was able to book my reservation the morning of my lunch, unlike the other restaurants on the Bib Gourmand list. I think that is/should be an indicator of where this restaurant compares to those establishments.
