Amazing! Easily, the best meal I’ve had in Richmond…this restaurant is beautifully decorated, the staff are all super friendly & helpful. Cole was wonderful and attentive. My filet was perfect, the lemon butter cake will change your life - if you haven’t been I highly recommend giving it a try. Thanks for a wonderful evening.

My recent dining experience at Chez Foushee was absolutely superb and easily one of the best I've ever had. It's an authentic French restaurant, not just in its exquisite cuisine but also in its wonderfully charming and genuine atmosphere. I choose this place because my wife loves French food and I'm glad I did. The service throughout the evening was excellent, attentive without being intrusive, and truly enhanced our meal. A special shout-out goes to Cole, who did a fantastic job taking care of us. His recommendations were spot-on, and his professional and friendly demeanor made our evening even more enjoyable. And as for the food, every dish was a masterpiece, bursting with flavor and prepared with incredible skill. It's no exaggeration to say that the food at Chez Foushee is some of the best I have ever had. We each got a hanger steak and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare as requested. I'm already dreaming of my next visit to savor their delectable offerings again. If you're looking for an authentic French dining experience with impeccable service and unforgettable food, Chez Foushee is an absolute must-visit.

Diners be aware if you have a reservation it does not guarantee you a table for 2 hours like the website states. I recently dined here with my cousin on my last weekend visiting Richmond. We were seated at a small table in the dining room. The food was just decent not fabulous and the service was sub-par to what you would expect in a nicer establishment. I had a reservation at 6 and almost immediately after my desert was served we were asked to get up and move tables to accommodate a large reservation. We had not been seated for more than 1 hr and 30 minutes before being asked to move and i reluctantly moved to not make a scene. I was visibly upset and hoped the management or staff would do something to make it right but no one apologized and nothing was compensated off my bill for the terrible service. The wait staff was not as attentive as you would expect paying over $200 for dinner. I wrote a private review via resy and a manager called offering if I came back he would offer a discount. I would never go back to that establishment and spend more money just to get “a free appetizer” and he failed to make things right knowing I was from out of town and leaving. My recommendation is to eat somewhere else. This establishment is not worth the price and the service was subpar. Just know your table and reservation is not guaranteed and they seem to think asking people to stop mid dinner to move is standard. I don’t think anyone’s reservation should be more important than another. The service and management seem to be inexperienced.

What a wonderful place! We had incredible oysters as an appetizer. My boyfriend loved the steak frites. My ratatouille was lackluster and was a signature dish. We did ask for French 75’s and sent them back(at a French restaurant one would think this was a reasonable request). We enjoyed the wine and will go back.

Maybe an off night, found hair in our starter which doesn’t bother me personally. The rainbow carrots and bread were pretty phenomenal. Ordered the ratatouille and found the vegetables to be inconsistently prepared; undercooked and under seasoned throughout - also not the end of the world, but the shrimp in my partner’s risotto were not deveined, which I feel like is a bit of an issue at this price point. Atmosphere is unmatched in my opinion though, and service was friendly, polite, and attentive!

Stopped in for happy hour and was blown away by the interior design, the history (1907 wallpaper company), the attentive service and the food and drinks. I came away quite happy indeed 🥳, thank you CF team.

Loved my dining experience at Chez Foushee. Dined for a friends birthday and started with the lavender love cocktail which was delicious. With dinner I enjoyed a nice white burgundy blend which I hadn't had before. I don't drink a ton of French wine but would love to after enjoying those so much. My appetizer was the carrots which were good not amazing. The salmon entree was delicious and incredibly filling i was a little surprised by the portion but in a good way! My sides were. Loved the asparagus but the mashed potatoes were a little bland. The star of the evening was definitely the lemon butter cake. The perfect cross between lemon chess pie or bars and cheesecake. I'm already planning my trip back just for that! The service was awesome, thank you Cole! And even the amazing and gracious chef Whitney came out to tell my friend happy birthday whose name also happened to be Whitney. The piano karaoke was a fun bonus too. 10/10 Friday night.

Food was absolutely amazing, can't speak for ambiance, but service was great, very attentive. They were very busy and although we had reservations for 2, we had a plus +1 so they had to accomodate and we were sat at the bar. So didnt get the full service experience. But will next time as I plan to return.

Cute little spot in Richmond. Small, but very concise and delicious menu! Friendly staff who were also very attentive! I had a thyme based cocktail that was delicious! The baked Brie was also quite nice and very shareable! I had the beef tenderloin for my main and every aspect of the dish absolutely worked! Truly cooked to perfection! Another gem in RVA that I will certainly return to!

I love this cute French spot. Back at the height of the pandemic, we ordered an extravagant takeout meal from here that made our day. I've been back since and find that it's more of a Southern and French fusion spot. The entrees I've ordered here in the past are good, but not necessarily something I go out of my way to get. I do, however, adore their desserts here. On my recent visit, my partner and I wanted to go on a last minute date late into the evening and decided to grab dessert from Chez Foushee. I'm so happy we did. They seated us at an intimate table not far from the piano player. We had a great view for people watching. It was extremely romantic. The vibes in this spot are immaculate. Even the bathroom is so french (note that it's very tight and small, but in a cute way). I highly recommend this spot for a date night to grab drinks and dessert. You won't want to miss out on trying their famous lemon butter cake.

We had a delightful experience all around. The dim lighting, candle light, live piano music, and perfect sound level made for a great ambiance. The food was also very good. We started with the baked Brie, then got the salmon (was a special) and the beef bourguignon. All of it was delicious and came in perfectly portioned sizes. The service was fantastic too. The server was helpful and super attentive. They recommended a beautiful wine to go with our meal, and our water glasses were filled throughout the night without having to ask even once. We will certainly be back! I recommend making a reservation as it filled up pretty quickly.

Absolutely adorable date night spot with my girlfriend!!! And so easy to visit as a vegan. The warm citrus olives & almonds were great and the vegan mushroom risotto was perfect. They have delicious cocktails-I recommend the thyme gin cocktail. Service & ambience were perfect and we couldn't have asked for a better evening.

Great little gem of a restaurant in downtown Richmond. It has a vegetable forward menu with a women chef and kitchen. I had pea risotto both vegan style and vegetarian style. I preferred the vegetarian but the vegan one was also really good. The mushroom stroganoff was the real show stopper.

Christmas Tea here was amazing!!!! The restaurant was beautifully decorated, service excellent, tea and sandwiches delicious. Looking to make my next reservation now!

Lemon butter cake. Just do it. I had the shrimp risotto and my husband had steak frites. Both were great, but the dessert was the star in my opinion. The service was great and obviously a beautiful location.

drinks were amazing, probably best ive had in the area! the ambiance inside is really enjoyable. our food was fairly good but lacked some flavor. maybe i'm naive, but the menu didn't seem too french inspired? also not sure if staff tries to give you time and space but we often felt like we were looking for waiter. would absolutely come back for a happy hour!

Perfect restaurant for celebrating any special occasion! We were there for Bastille Day 2023 and loved our tiny table with fresh flowers, attentive wait staff, exquisite entrees, and heavenly desserts! Viva La France!

The atmosphere and food are amazing. I especially appreciate their bar staff. Always professional, always friendly, always quick. I particularly love going to Chez Foushee when they host the Piano Bar Karaoke with Yes, And! Truly wonderful experience, highly recommend going for that.

My fiancé and I dined with another couple at Chez Foushee last night and had an absolutely lovely experience. Owner Whitney Cardozo has given the iconic space a much-needed facelift that retains the wonderful charm of old and that highlights the unique features of the interior. The fresh paint, thoughtful lighting and new furnishings add a depth and warmth to the ambiance. Individual lamps on each table, with dimmers that guests can control, adds to the intimacy of the experience. Live piano music, played by Demas Boudreaux, wafts beautifully in the space. Diners pause to clap softly at the conclusion of each piece. Let's be honest--there's nothing else like that in richmond! The food and service are suburb and are perfectly matched to their surroundings. The menu is French-inspired but not "frilly". It's simple food, executed beautifully. There are meat and seafood options, as well as variations for vegetarians. Our table enjoyed fried oysters--perfectly breaded, seasoned and fried to be crispy on the outside but tender and juicy on the inside. I don't really like oysters and I enjoyed these. Others enjoyed a carrot soup, whimsically served in an antique tea cup and a fresh green salad with a delicious house-made mustard vinaigrette. I had the steak frites for my entree. It was delicious. Perfectly seasoned flank steak, served spot-on medium rare was melt-in-my-mouth tender, drenched in a savory bordelaise sauce. It was surrounded by crisp house-cut fries and bright French green beans--a needed foil to the richness of the dish. My boo had the beef bougignon, with tender braised morsels of beef with carrots, onions and mushrooms topped with fluffy mashed potatoes. The bite I stole was wonderful--rich and savory as it should be. A perfect, hearty winter dish. Our friends shared the chicken pot pie and crab cake. I wasn't able to sample them, but they ate every bite and offered rave reviews. We shared two pieces of Chez's signature dessert--lemon butter cake-- to end our meal. This confection is a richmond institution and I am thrilled it lives on under this new iteration of the restaurant. It is best described as a cross between a key lime pie and cheesecake. It is tart and sweet and utterly delicious! We paired our meal with a two bottles of a lovely willamette valley Pinot noir, selected from a small but well-curated wine list. Service from Michael and Russel was lovely, and enhanced the experience. Folks often ask for recommendations of a special date-night spot on this page. Chez Foushee is it. It is, in a word, special. The actual restaurant is beautiful and the food has always been delicious. Recently I tried to make a reservation for 6 for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We have been before together as a family many times and have really enjoyed it. When I wrote to the restaurant after following their reservation instructions online I was told they do not allow reservations for six people any longer. Only groups of four can dine. I was so caught off guard I asked if this was a new policy and was told plainly it was. We wont be dinning here any longer since we cannot go as a family and are highly disappointed.

Had not been to Chez Foushee in.... well too many years! So glad we decided to come for our special girls night dinner. The decor is beautifully historic with a modern open concept. Lovely marble bar with equally lovely service. We started off with the fried oysters which could not have been more perfectly fried. The camembert w/caramelized onions and fig jam was delish but the buttered crostini was not a good accompaniment. Would have preferred a hearty lightly toasted (or not) baguette. For dinner we ordered a couple of hanger steaks and frites. The steaks were rare and done to a 'melt in your mouth state', sumptuously surrounded in a bordelaise sauce. Oh man... I really need to break out the Julia Child cookbooks and learn how to make that divine sauce. We also ordered the mussels special.. who can resist yummy shellfish in a white wine sauce. Finished off with a decadent chocolate torte all the while sipping on a couple of bottles of Larouque Pinot Noir.. gonna be looking for that at my fave wine store. Wonderful food, great service, beautiful ambiance.

Truly only writing a review so that I remember I did go here and I loved it so incredibly much. The greeting at the door is enough to entice you to more.. gorgeous decor, a space with smiling, experienced, educated & wonderful staff, an old piano with candles burning atop it... such a pretty, classic feel. I love it. The food was out of control delicious. Started with the olives -- perhaps a few too many for only two people.. we needed about 1/4 of what came out. Still, nice to take home. I opted for the salmon special of the night and I must say -- this was the best salmon I have ever had in my life. I don't even want to go into it's details, but I will say, huge, plump piece with perfect skin-on seasoning that will blow your mind... my friend got the vegetarian risotto and raved about how delicious it was. Creamy, tasty, and plentiful. For dessert I tried, by the recommendation of our waiter, the Richmond classic Lemon Cake. Which, appropriately described as not cakey at all, but more on the lines of an ever so slightly gooey cheesecake, was absolutely delicious and a perfect end to the meal. Five stars all day long! Can't wait to go back!

Very nice place, upscale you don't have to dress up but you would want to dress up( I was not aware lol). The drinks were great, we got the special it was gin I believe and it was really good. Waiter was very nice and he is also the one that made our drinks. The food was so so, the oyster appetizer was not good at all, it was something about it that just didn't sit well. All of the entrées were good. Dessert was not the best but we only tried one so the others could have been good.

When the local brunch joint was too crowded, we found Foushee on Yelp. I'm glad! It wasn't the crowded hipster joint, but a good new American with a French vibe joint. Definitely more upscale. Slightly pricier, but worth it not to wait 45 minutes. We had the chez Benedict. It was good. The hollandaise was a little thin, but the crab cakes had little filler. I liked them more than bread. The potatoes were flavorful, but room temp. I would have liked them hot. Good coffee. Good service. They are under renovations. That's good because the bathroom was not so great.

Came here on Valentine's Day and it was a very good experience, just the right amount of class to enjoy a nice brunch. Firstly, I want to mention that the free parking people are mentioning is in the lot just slightly east of the restaurant (on Grace). It will say in small type at the bottom-most part of the sign that Chez Foushee customers can park there. I had to hunt for this sign a bit myself, don't want to get towed on V-day! While I made a reservation for 11 am, there apparently was no need to: it was mostly empty both when we arrived and when we left. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and very reminiscent of other European restaurants I have been to. We were quickly seated and seen by our server, who relayed the specials and drink options to us. I opted for a mimosa and my date some hot tea. The mimosa was good, though I suppose I expected something a little nicer on the champagne end for $9 a glass. We both opted for the eggs benedict, which was pleasantly presented and tasted great. The fruit that came with it was less enticing and a bit chewy, though the omelette part was memorably delicious. When other tables came in, our server disappeared a bit more than I would have liked, though perhaps he was just giving us our space. Sometimes it's hard to tell. In summary, I would consider coming here for brunch again, though this might not be my top pick. Overall: 3.5 stars ------------- Pros: - Omelets are delicious and nicely presented. - Interior is attractive and well-suited to a nice date or professional meeting. - Free parking is a nice bonus, especially in this area. Cons: - Service is a bit middling, perhaps not the ideal European experience. - Mimosa was weak, recommend against getting it. Same for the fruit side of the meal.

Came here for the first time yesterday evening, to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Restaurant was fairly empty at 5:20 pm on a Friday. ..Did not experience the so called friendly atmosphere everyone had mentioned in their reviews. Reservations were made specifically on open table weeks ago, with mention to please not seat us in the BACK of the establishment..Next to the restrooms! And that we were celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary.....And of course that is exactly where they sat us! To add fuel to the fire ..Our waitress with her fake British accent was very rude! She should be glad my husband was with me..Because I would have told her off ..From the beginning of our meal! She seem to have a very sarcastic answer for every thing I asked for or made mentioned of on the menu! She spilled my drink Martini all over the table when putting it down..You would think she would wipe it up??? See pics! Not very accommodating for someone who works for tips! Never again...And she received a subpar tip for her subpar service! And could have easily received a $50 tip for phenomenal service and an attitude adjustment

Very nice and classy place. Especially friendly staff. Very good food. And when I went you get a free mini desert for checking in on Yelp. Their French toast is not just like your usual toast. It's an experience. It's like a moist pound cake or a desert. It was perfect.

I posted 4 stars, but really, I would have given this a solid 3.5. Came here for my husband's birthday. It was a last minute decision and we hadn't made reservations. The hostess was kind of snobby and said that they don't seat anyone without a reservation, and offered us a space at the bar, which we took. The bartender was incredible!! SO sweet and accommodating. We soon asked her about potentially moving to a table and she informed us that they DO seat "walk ins" and asked the hostess to move us. The space is beautiful, with a warm and cozy ambiance. Besides the snobby hostess, the service was wonderful! The food, unfortunately, was a disappointment. My husband and I both felt like we were paying for the name. To splurge on a fancy meal, there are better options in RVA.

Ended up here completely by accident on a nice Sunday morning. It was meant to be just a nearby, safe choice, that seemed ok and had decent reviews. However, after coming here, it is probably now my favorite spot in Richmond! This is an extremely fine establishment with exceptional customer service (just the way it should be in a French styled restaurant), high quality meals and a great decor. Additionally the restaurant staff has a great selection of French music playing, which completed the whole experience. A totally great place that must be visited whether you are looking for a fine dining experience, or just a quick brunch. I wish i could give 10 stars.

I am a bit surprised to read all the other great reviews about the food after my experience, to be fair maybe l didn't pick the best items of the menu or maybe today wasn't their best day... You decide... My husband and l decided to celebrate our 40th week of pregnancy with a classy brunch. Chez Foushee has a perfectly accurate feel for this occasion. The room is clean, not too loud, the staff is very welcoming and the service is perfect. Although I wouldn't say the same for the food. The homemade papardelle was a bit of a disappointment. It tasted so bland that I had to keep adding some salt and pepper to make the flavours come out. I could tell the pasta was homemade, but wasn't cooked properly since my plate had a few huge clumps. My husband ordered quiche du jour; ham and spinach with cheese. It was a bit dry but tasted okay; although nothing as close as we expected considering the profile of the restaurant and the prices. On a Sunday morning around 11pm they were almost completely empty (maybe we should have taken it as a sign). My 3stars are mostly for the good service and the representation, but the chef have to work hard on improving the food.

Let me start by saying it's restaurant week; which is always a weird snapshot of the restaurant. That being said, the ambiance is upscale, white table cloths, upbeat jazz, and your very own butter spreader. Our waitress was excellent! She was funny and timely even though her section was slammed. Plus, her food reccomendations were on point each step of the way.  The dinner menu itself was classic For: vichoysee, steak & pomme frittes, risotto, ratitouile, etc. They also had more southern options pimento cheese and shrimp creole (both of which I devoured).  The food itself was good, really good, done in a traditionalist manner.  I craved something in each dosh though, more spice or more heat.  It may have been too traditional for me BUT you better believe I'd take a family member there for a fancy night out or a client on a lunch date to impress.

Don't want to leave a review because we left without eating. Our glasses came with a dead fly in it and we didn't want to stay. The food may be great.

We were pleasantly surprised! We a really entered waiting k8st for Pearls but since I had previously stayed in the area we walked around - when we found Chez we had a seat for brunch: Best clean cake Benedict Best salmon AMAZING desert & very food drinks Awesome staff & beautiful ambiance We bought a gift certificate for our wonderful neighbors

The food here is 5 stars. I got the grilled Ribeye which was out of this world. It was cooked perfectly medium rare and full of flavor. The fries were delicious as well. I can't overemphasize how great the food was. My wife really enjoyed the filet and my Dad thought the duck was great. The clientele here is pretty old. Mostly well dressed folks in their 50s and 60s (think blazers and pearls). I was disappointed by two things. 1. The wine list. There may be 6-8 different red wines you can order. I expected a lot more options for any restaurant of this quality. For a French restaurant, I expected some interesting French wine. That wasn't there. Everything is recent release, no vintages etc. Big bummer. That being said, the wine I did order was good and well priced. 2. Had a 6:30 reservation but weren't seated until 7:10. No explanation besides they were running behind. Nothing was offered to make up for this. 40 minutes is a long time to wait when you have a reservation. Still 4 stars for the amazing food. I would come back.

Returned after a long absence with a party of eight on Friday. Service was attentive, food was delicious. Had the hangar steak and was a great happy camper. As a locally owned business we need to support local! Must say that although the owner was not in, we were greeted warmly and that vibe was throughout the meal.

Oh my goodness, Chez Foushee is so darn charming! A cute little white tablecloth establishment set back in time replete with creaky wood floors, tall ceilings, arching windows, and antique furnishings! At first the brunch menu seemed limited, but flip it over and there is a whole 'nother page! We tried the Duck Confit hash & Eggs (yum!), the Breakfast Gnocci (yum). We finished it up with the lemon butter cake- a sort of cheese cake in a shortbread crust with raspberry couple and candied lemon peel. OMG good!!! Seriously! This dessert is one of the best I have every had, anywhere- and there appears to be a story- this creation was serendipitous! GET IT! Save room, force yourself, but by all means have this special dessert! Nice one, Richmond!

Came to Chez Foushee during Restaurant Week and it was amazing! Although at the time I wished they had done their regular menu that week on top of the Restaurant Week menu, in hindsight it forced me to go out of my comfort zone which I really enjoyed. I can't tell you exactly what I had, but salmon was involved as was a potato dish and salad and lemon butter cake. The service was top notch, drinks were on point, and the spot is so sexy! I love, love loved the atmosphere. Perfect place for a rehearsal dinner, engagement party, or milestone birthday dinner. This is now added to the list of places to recommend to out-of-towners! Everyone in my party ate everything. The portion sizes were absolutely perfect. Can't wait to go back!

Chez Foushee is a restaurant that rarely misses. I am always drawn to the unique architecture of the building in which it resides, a bold art deco facade done in a Moorish style. Very unusual and worth a trip just to enjoy the space. Light and sunny, open, and nicely decorated. The service is always efficient and since it is a lunch crowd, the rush can be a little frantic. Try and go early or just before service ends so as to be able to enjoy a less frenetic pace. The soups are amazing, as are the desserts. I always look forward to summer as they do cold soups like no other in town. The food is always very fresh and although this is not a bargain priced lunch spot, the food quality and atmosphere make it easily worth it. Yes, the lemon butter cake is astounding. There is Tilapia two ways, a wide variety of sandwiches, a quiche du jour, The restaurant has added dinner twice a week on Friday and Saturday at 6pm. They take reservations and I would recommend them for dinner. Beer, wine and mixed cocktails are now served as well. Boxed lunches and take out are another services. The owners are renowned for catering services and private parties. Menu items are sourced locally when available and the menu changes to reflect this.

Another Richmond Restaurant Week experience. I think you can see a trend if you keep up with my reviews. So I have always passed this place and it took awhile for me to notice the building. It's on Grace Street and you start to notice the abundance of awesome places to eat at whenever one drives down. Once inside, it is quite charming and elegant in its decor. Almost reminds me of Julep's, but with brighter setting. We were immediately seated towards the upper level, which left us right beside a table below us. A bit weird since we could hear them and they could hear us most likely, but what can you do? The Food. -Shrimp Remoulade (pictured): This reminds me of shrimp cocktail really. Not bad, but not spectacular. -Laurel Brined Pork Loin (pictured): Now this was good. I loved the sauce it came with and the ragout really added to the dish. -Lemon Butter Cake(pictured): This was absolutely divine. Seriously sweet with some tartness to it. Emphasis on the butter since it's oh so smooth. -Almond Shortbread Stack(pictured): This was such a light dessert and very subtle in flavor out of the three I tried. Good pick if you're stuffed! -Chocolate Mousse Torte(pictured): Okay, so if you've ever been to the Cheesecake Factory and ordered the Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake...this dessert reminds me of that. So rich! The Service. I've gotta say that... this place may have too good of service. I say this since we seemed to have 2 waiters/servers who were always making sure our table was refilled and had the appropriate utensils. One waiter came in with a knife, another came with knife and realized I already had one. He came back again, when he realized I needed a "serious" knife for my pork loin. Quite amusing and pleasant! TIP: they have a parking lot about a block away, so no worries about street parking like I did. Overall, a lovely place to eat at with the most attentive service.

**3.5 stars** **Reviewing Restaurant Week Only** Came here for Restaurant Week with 5 of my girlfriends and was happy to get to try most of the dishes that were offered. For $25/person, you can choose an appetizer, entree, and dessert. Appetizer: Unfortunately, I didn't like any of the appetizers. The Shrimp Remoulade contained 3-4 cocktail shrimp on a bed of awkward lettuce with celery roots. Not good. The Spinach Bisque was bland and was not very tasty either. Entree: Out of all the entrees, I liked the Cod and Pork Loin the best. However, the Cod was a little too salty and the sides were slightly burnt, but the sauce and vegetables were good. The Pork Loin was huge. Definitely a good choice for a hungry guy! The Mahi Mahi was so-so and so was the Vegetable Risotto. Dessert: The Lemon Butter Cake was the winner. Don't let the name fool you because it's actually more like a cheesecake than a cake. It was very refreshing and also came with candied lemons yumm! The Chocolate Mousse was decent. It was very thick and not too sweet, but I've had better. The Almond Tart was too hard for my taste. The best thing about Chez Foushee is the service. Our waiters were very attentive and friendly. They moved our plates as soon as we were finished and also let us try a sample of the wine before we got the bottle. On a side note, I didn't like the bathroom. It was TINY and dark... I believe that a French place this nice should at least have a pleasant bathroom! Overall, service is great but food can be hit or miss!

I came here with a friend at the recommendation of his friend and could not have been more pleased. I came in without any idea of what to expect, but if I had had expectations, they would have been exceeded. I was immediately drawn to the architectural details and decor and appreciated the way the design maintained the original beauty of the space. It seems like it could serve a lot of social purposes - a business lunch, a romantic dinner, a ladies' lunch, whatever. Timeless, classic, and understated. And with friendly, efficient service to boot! What a gem! My friend and I both ordered the tomato bisque, which was to die for. We ordered cups and, upon finishing, agreed that we wished we had ordered bowls. It was creamy and light, tangy and fresh, with a cheddar toast perfectly bobbing atop. Perfectly seasoned, perfect consistency. Perfect. I wish I lived closer than five hours away so I could have some tomorrow! For my entree, I chose the roast beef French dip sandwich, also exquisite. I was a bit apprehensive to order a sandwich that is pretty inherently messy in such a nice place, but it was definitely a bit refined and didn't have me slobbering and scouring for napkins with jus dripping down my chin. The thinly sliced meat was compact on the soft, chewy baguette, accompanied by sweet, tender caramelized onion and all held with the ultimate glue: Swiss cheese. The au jus had a deep beefy, salty flavor that catapulted me straight into French dip euphoria. I would have to see the difference between the lunch and dinner menus to determine whether dinner would be worth it, but I will absolutely return here when I come back to Richmond. The lunch prices were completely reasonable and the quality of the food far exceeded them.

How can you not love a place called Chez Foushee? I later learned that it was named after the street it was located on, but it's still pretty catchy..Anyway, we opted to go here after our Plan A for brunch didn't pan out. (821 Cafe a.k.a. Hipster Heaven, was completely full with a small line, and service seemed to be delivered at a sleepy pace.) Chez Foushee has all the marks of a fine dining establishment: white tablecloths, an extensive wine list, and older patrons. Despite the elegant setting, the service was warm and friendly, not cold and snooty, as I've encountered elsewhere. Definitely one of the highlights of our dining experience while here. Housed in a nineteenth century building and decorated in classic Franco-American style, Foushee is charming spot for a meal with someone special or with friends and family. I wish I could say stellar things about the food, but it wasn't as impressive. The winners were the sides, cheddar cheese grits and truffle fries. The truffle fries delivered a foodgasm with every bite. They would have been perfect if the batch wasn't so heavily salted.The cheddar cheese grits with the flavor of the jalepeno without the spice made Tom N quite happy. He wished that his bistro steak could have been less overcooked. My poached eggs with roasted tomatoes and asparagus in a bearnaise sauce was just okay. We had a lemon cake for dessert, which pleased my dining companion's sweet tooth but overwhelmed my palate with its sugariness. The crust was nice, but the filling was saccharine. Though the food wasn't as memorable as we had hoped, we'd definitely come back for the great ambiance and service. 3.5 stars

Bumped up to 4 stars for excellent service, but this isn't my favorite kind of restaurant - it was a bit overpriced for the food that they serve. Nothing was particularly unique although the food was high quality. This would be a good spot for a nice date or a special occasion, but wouldn't be something I crave or need to go to normally.

Great classic dinner spot in Richmond. My parents have been coming here for 20 some years now. I had the Ratatouille and my boyfriend got the Risotto which I tried a bite of. Both were great and super flavorful! We made a reservation just a few hours before on a Saturday night for 4 people and had no issues there were plenty of openings.

Recognizing pandemic challenges, hours are frustrating. I stopped by recently and discovered CF is only open 3 days for dinner. I remember business luncheons with out-of-towners who enjoyed the space and the meal. Returning lunch hours would benefit the neighborhood. Keeping the name suggests a French menu, but trout meunière is not enough to satisfy anyone longing cassoulet. Also, crab cakes should only be offered on a specials board in season, if indeed they are made appropriately from Bay crab.
