"An imposing former Synod Hall built in 1861 houses this long-standing, family-owned restaurant; start with a drink in the bar, surrounded by contemporary Irish art. The classically based dishes are full of flavour and there’s a great value Sunday lunch; the Queen’s egg custard tart is a must-try!" - Michelin Inspector

Chez Hans remains a truly special place. From the warm welcome on arrival to the unhurried time to catch up with fellow diners, every moment feels effortless. The main dining room is stunning, with its striking architecture and artwork setting the tone for an exceptional experience. The team—both the familiar faces and the impeccably trained new staff—exude warmth and professionalism. As for the food, each course surpasses the last, flawlessly cooked with thoughtful twists that leave you eager to return and explore more of the menu. Yes, Cashel has seen new dining spots emerge, but Chez Hans remains unmatched. Its charm, hospitality, and unmistakable Céad Míle Fáilte set it apart. (And for full transparency—I’ve tried the new places too.) Highly recommended.

Fantastic. Pre drinks area nice and intimate with a very friendly attentive barman. Restaurant area feels very cosy yet spacious with gorgeous lofted church ceiling and interesting paintings adorning the walls. Wait staff are very accommodating and plesant. Food was simply divine I had the duck starter and wow!! Mains were lamb 3 way which I would highly recommend and my husband had the fillet of steak - also amazing, nicest we have both tasted!! For dessert I had the coffee semifreddo and it was divine!

What a lovely culinary journey we had last night. Everything was simply perfect. The staff so friendly, food delicious, served in time in the stunning setting of an old church. It was not cheap but certainly worth every cent. We will come back soon again.

This will always be at the top of my list for the Best Restaurant in Tipp. The food was an absolute treat to the taste buds. The interiors, the staff, the service - everything was just perfect. A place that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good meal in Tipperary. Whoever said we don't have any good restaurants in the area.

Excellent atmosphere in a church building that was never used as a place of worship due to the well known conflicts in Ireland. Beautiful plate presentation and desert. Taste was comparable with other lower cost restaurants.

Google
In the shadow of the Rock of Cashel you will find an old church and in that old church you will find a restaurant and to say that this restaurant is special, perhaps maybe even a little bit magical, is not exaggeration. Between the beautiful location, the historic building itself, the clever, stunning menu full of detail and expertise and the charming, friendly staff, this 5 star experience has never failed to blow me away. In my opinion Chez Hans is a gem you won't forget and will want to revisit.

Chez Hans was top class as always. The setting is homely, the staff are really great and the food is excellent. In my Top 3 favourite places to eat in Ireland..

Yelp
This was an amazing meal! I was solo traveling through Cashel and read about Chez Hans being one of the best restaurants in Ireland. I was able to make a reservation via Facebook a week in advance as I was traveling internationally. It was busy for a Wednesday night but if you went on the early side 1700-1830, you could likely get seated without. The service was great, you order your starters and main course in a waiting/bar area and they take you in when your table is ready. The bread comes with a beetroot spread which is delicious! I ordered a pulled pork/mushroom ravioli as a started. It was delicious--the flavors were amazing and it might be the best dish I've ever eaten. After, I had the duck, served well done. It came with a thyme gravy, cherries, butternut purée, and vegs--wow! Served with a side of potatoes but I just sampled them because the dish was plenty. Wanted to order dessert but was too full. Overall a great meal and service. The location in downtown Cashel is wonderful and the old church, a beautiful setting.

Yelp
I've been to the 4 corners of Ireland on this trip, spending two weeks. Of all the places I have tried, this place was by far the best. Professional and courteous staff, great setup with a great (but a little too concise of a selection) bar as a waiting room, and the food is amazing. The prices are reasonable for such a great restaurant which I was not expecting, being a previously listed Michelin star restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Cashel, and is worth driving out of the way to visit. The restaurant is also in an excellent location, within walking distance of the Rock of Cashel, and several nice local bars. As someone who makes a point to always going to new places when traveling, this is one place I would be more than happy to visit again.

Yelp
The food was good, but it took over 45 minutes to get our meal, which is not ideal when you're on a scheduled tour with limited time to enjoy a light lunch. Our tour bus was leaving at 2 and our food arrived at 1:55. With the looming threat of the bus leaving before being able to eat, I had my work cut out for me. I've never had to shovel a full plate of mussels in under 5 minutes, but I've been know to surprise myself. The trick is you really have to put your head down and chew through the pain. My family watched in horror as I crushed the first 10 mussels before taking my first breath. At this point, I was sweating, scared, and in a foreign country. I rolled up my sleeves, clinched my butt cheeks, and prepared for the next round of 15. Soup flew everywhere, scalding families and small children alike while I jammed chewy seafood down my gullet at an Olympic pace. To be quite honest I may have blacked out. When I came to, my family was walking to the tour bus and I sped up to catch up with them. I don't know what I expected when I walked in, but I left a champion. 2 stars for very slow service.

Yelp
This was a surprise find in cashel, just outside the rock. They accept only cash though, since I was running low on euros I offered to pay in dollars which they were ok with. But we managed within our budget eventually. My wife had the open chicken burger, to date she claims it was the best she has ever had. I had the pulled pork pasta which was good too. We went with our one year old, he loved their house bread, we took some with us too. It's a small place and got crowded during peak lunch hour. Hosts were gracious and portion sizes were adequate.

Yelp
Absolutely excellent food, service, and atmosphere here. I had the lamb burger and my wife had the roasted chicken sandwich (it was a different name I can't recall). Both entrees (mains) were superb. Great presentation, well cooked, and superior taste and flavor! Just a quick note to add; be sure to eat or buy something in town before visiting the Rock of Cashel as you get a free ticket every 15 euro you spend in town. Cheers!

Yelp
Chez Hans is an elegant dining experience in the heart of Cashel. I dined here a few nights ago. It was one of the best meals I had in Ireland, if not the best. Reservations are required. We arrived early on a Saturday evening. Soon the place filled up. When you walk in you are seated in a bar area. You order a drink, are given your menus and the waitress takes your order. Then you are brought into an exquisite dining room which looks like it used to be a church. All the food tasted amazing. I ordered the mussels as a starter. My friend had the lobster. Both were delicious. For a main I chose the fillet of beef which was served with Bearnaise sauce and tomato ketchup on the side. The chips (french fries) which came with it were also very tasty. The dessert was some sort of chocolate offerings. It included warm flour less chocolate cake with gooey center, Madagascar vanilla ice cream served with chocolate sauce and marshmallow, chocolate gelato with candied orange peel and I forget what else. It's called "The Chocolate Tasting Plate" or something to that effect. All I can tell you is order it. You will love it. It was a memorable meal on my last night in Ireland. It was my first time there but it surely won't be my last! Enjoy!

Yelp
This is an adorable and cozy cafe just down the road from the Rock of Cashel. We popped in for lunch after completing the tour. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We tried the lamb burger and cod with beans and chorizo potatoes. Both dishes were absolutely delicious. They also brought a basket of fresh brown bread to the table. Great experience - I'd highly recommend a visit.

Yelp
This may be the best restaurant I've ever dined it. This is a Michelin stared restaurant, for a reason!!! If you want an entire life experience filled with delectable and amazing food come here. It's worth the money. You won't get this everywhere in the states.

Patti D.

Yelp
Food was very good. Had the watermelon & feta salad and the mussels - both appetizer size. When they brought the mussels I thought it was a full size - easily shareable. The salad was smaller but perfect with the shared mussels. Both were extremely fresh and good quality and nicely plated. Lamb burger was large and tasty according to my son who is 6'5 and he couldnt even finish the fries he was so full. BRING CASH - THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CREDIT OR DEBIT. Busy when we got there and we had to que in the little holding area beside the washrooms. That was a bit untasteful but the meal was worth it and the servers were very nice.

Kendra N.

Yelp
Cute restaurant, but I had terrible service. When I first got there several tables were open, but they still made me que in the back to clear off one particular table, and even sat a table before me. Once I got to my table it took a while to even take my drink order, and we only had one menu. When I expressed my dissatisfaction, I felt like the staff didn't really want to take my feedback. Food was good. I had the mussels and soup, and the soup was really tasty while the mussels had less flavor and a bit overly garnished. I may have just had a bad experience, but I felt unwelcome in this place in my attire after walking the Rock of Cashel based on my initial treatment. I would maybe pick a different spot if you are dressed in less than business casual.

Jamie N.

Yelp
The hubs and I both had the delicious lamb burger. It was seasoned throughout and was stacked with greens, cheese, and a tomato with essential tzatziki sauce. On the side was a tasty side salad and fries. Perfectly filling meal. Still amazed by how good that burger was! Great last-minute find in Cashel.

Yelp
Sister restaurant to Chez Hans, so if you can't get in for dinner the cafe is next door (short walk from the Rock). Yummy meal for all, including kid. Express meal deal especially liked. Fish cake yummy, trout done right and dessert takers ecstatic. No credit cards taken, so ran a few blocks to ATM.

Yelp
Amazing food! Amazing service! Definitely a place you can't miss eating at while in Ireland. They have a very organized system in terms of waiting for your table and ordering your food. It was very enjoyable to sit in the lounge and order a drink while waiting for your table. You also place your starter and main course order prior to being seated. As I have a gluten and dairy allergy, it is very nice to come to a restaurant where they are so accommodating and not have to worry. Best to make a reservation as as Cashel is small and there are not many options for dinner. Chez Hans also has a cafe... a couple doors down. I didn't get a chance to try it but I'm sure it would be just as delicious. I have no complaints about the food however I did get a few mussels with sand in them which was disappointing. This does not change my rating of this restaurant as the flavours were absolutely amazing!

Yelp
The food, the service, the atmosphere. I couldn't have asked for anything more. This meal has inspired me to write a review while still at the table!! I ordered the steak, my wife ordered the Coronation Chicken. What we got was so much more than we expected. The steak had onions sautéed in red wine over it. It was stacked upon baby steamed broccoli and green beans with fries and a grilled tomato on the side. The chicken was an open faced sandwich with a slight curry flavor, either from the seasoning on the chicken or the béarnaise sauce drizzled over it. I couldn't tell which. Then there was a salad of fresh greens heaped on top of the whole thing. I was so impressed with the service and so much more impressed with the presentation and the flavor of the food! I don't know who is working behind the scenes, but that person is magic! I would highly recommend this place to anyone who happens to be in the area. When I come back to Ireland I will be back here!!!

Yelp
I did not expect to eat here, especially since there isn't much for my dietary needs. I did have to compromise an allergy and choose to suffer later because the wild mushroom and chestnut soup smelled glorious- well worth the suffering I am still enduring and I would most definitely endure it again, though I may need to wait a week or so before attempting xD My son has been begging for some fish and this cafe happened to have a grilled salmon dish which is his favorite. He is 3 and gobbled up the generous portion all by himself and helped himself to my soup. He really enjoyed the table bread with the soup and shamelessly asked for more. I also enjoyed a small side house salad which was so simple but had a great amount of flavor and fresh, gorgeous, greens. For a side portion it was surprisingly generous and actually the perfect size but my inner greed did wish for more! The staff was so friendly and I hope to enjoy more visits here during my stay in Cashel. €30 after tip for a really enjoyable meal in a very comfortable and tastefully decorated cafe- worth every cent.

Yelp
I second what Nollaig said. This is one of the best lunches we had on our trip to Ireland. Obviously we went to visit the Rock of Cashel, and then came here for lunch after. We had to wait about 5-10 minutes for a table. The staff was very friendly. It's a small bistro. The menu seemed very fancy, but the food was delicious. I had a nice hunk of cod that was on top of steamed broccoli and a potato/chorizo mixture that was to-die-for. Abby had a seafood salad (crab, shrimp, lobster, salmon, mixed with mayo, and guacamole, etc. on top of brown bread). She loved hers, and I loved mine. The deserts looked great, but we didn't try them. I can't recommend this place highly enough. The brown bread was delicious!

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch before visiting the Rock of Cashel (they gave us a free pass to the site, which was really nice of them) and had an excellent meal. Had the mushroom soup, as well as the goat cheese and cous cous salad, ending with the fish cake - everything was great, though the fish cake is a little heavy on the dill. Highly recommend! The €16 lunch was a great deal, and the staff is very nice.

Greg G.

Yelp
Stopped by for lunch after visiting Rock of Cashel. Had the wild mushroom pasta and squash soup. Excellent food and service! They even asked if we wanted to move to a window table, after another guest left. Excellent restaurant, would highly recommend!

Eamon B.

Yelp
Excellent as always, the full tables here tell it's own story consistant high quality lunch fare . prices may be a Euro or two more than average but fir what's on offer is a bargain!

Yelp
This restaurant is by far one of my favourite places to have a meal. The staff are very helpful and professional. The place is always top notch. I had a meal here for the first time in 2008 with my family. We were all picky eaters but there was not one thing that we did not like. Even my Mum, who was not partial to mushrooms, was delighted with them. The same was said for the rest of the party by discovering a new love of food we once though we did not like at all! It is all down to the amazing chef and the way he cooks and presents the food. I would highly recommend this restaurant for high quality food at a reasonable price within beautiful decadent surroundings.

Nollaig B.

Yelp
Simply one of the best lunch places I have ever been to. If you are around the lovely town of Cashel to visit the rock of Cashel or just passing through en route to Cork, it is well worth the stop, but be sure to get there soon after 12 as it's a very busy spot, especially at weekend or over the summer. Their salads are delicious. I has a creamed smoked salmon pasta dish, which was flavoured and presented so nicely. They do a crusted white fish on crushed baby potatoes with chorizo, which is amazing. The little cafe is small and quirky and the staff are friendly and warm. They offer a 2 course lunch at a very reasonable price, for such good quality produce.

Yelp
Best restaurant in Tipperary. Excellent food, and the staff are amazing. The Chez Hans cafe around the corner is also brilliant for lunch.

Jackie P.

Yelp
Cafe Hans was brimming over with delighted customers. We ordered the fish cakes and the cod special. Both were amazing! This restaurant has a neighboring big brother that is highly rated and elegant. For us, the Cafe was just the right bright vibe. The food could not be presented more beautifully. The fish cakes came with an espresso cup of beurre blanc that my husband and our friend practically licked clean. A friendly Irish mom and daughter assured us while we were waiting that this restaurant and it's brother are the best in Ireland. Certainly the best we experienced!

Irene R.

Yelp
We went to the related Chez Han Cafe around the corner for lunch. Excellent food, nice setting, good service. The restaurant had a waiting line right after we got seated. Everyone in our group of four enjoyed our food. One of our favorite restaurants on our Ireland trip.
