Montreal’s Best Kid-Friendly Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"This Greene avenue staple has been feeding families breakfast, lunch, and dinner for over a century. The extensive menu features lots of omelettes, salads, sandwiches, pastas, grilled meat and fish plates and several choices of grilled cheese. And, if by chance a picky eater can’t find something they like on the menu, they are always happy to accommodate and make changes." - Erinn Blicher

13 Worthy Westmount Restaurants for Takeout | Eater Montreal

"This diner may well be Westmount’s best-kept secret. Open since 1920, it’s likely the most polished of greasy spoons found in town. Chez Nick does the trick for all-day breakfasts, excellent sandwiches across the board, and a selection of sweets to go with a cup of joe." - JP Karwacki

Google
Chez Nick is a nice, cozy and small restaurant, perfect for brunch or lunch. Good was fine, and service was kind and quick. I had the impression that something was missing in my salad, as if it was just too simple. Yet it was ok. I also felt a little bit pushed to speak in English when I wanted to communicate in French.

I had an hour and a half to kill while waiting for my daughter‘s appointment and decided to try this place. Absolutely loved it delicious food well cooked great ambiance. I had the meat lovers breakfast.

Google
Although the service was good: the eggs were overcooked (solid inside) and I question whether the hollandaise was packaged; and they charge a fair bit for bad coffee. Classification: One & Done but I wouldn’t say stay away.

I enjoyed a vegan salad with sautéed veggies in it. It is also nice that you can have breakfast for dinner there. I like their healthier, less salty foods including some sandwiches. I would not bother with the dessert.

Chez Nick has been feeding Westmount since 1920, and now it’s feeding my soul (and stomach). This chicken pita might just have more history than my last relationship. 🥙🍟 #OldSchoolDelicious #WestmountEats

Our favorite diner! They have the best omlettes and benedict’s and they offer gluten free toast. Excellent service and vibe.

I went for lunch with my Grandson who was off school during study week to an “Old Faithful” restaurant that offers lots of comfort food. We were immediately greeted and seated at the counter - our choice and met with a server while we were sitting down. After about 5 minutes of perusing the menu we both decided to try their smoked meat sandwich for a change. It was nice but we kind of were expecting more in the meat. Since Nick’s isn’t a “Deli” in that sense of the word, we now know to go back to ordering one of their more traditional items. For me, it was more important dining with my grandson for about 45 minutes than the food we were dining on. Still keeping Nick’s as a “Go To” place for a quick bite!

Google
This place deserves all five stars. The food is fantastic and not greasy like in other places. The servers are attentive, cheerful, and efficient. You will come for the food but will leave with a great smile and full of love!

Yelp
This was such a cute diner experience! I came with my friend around noon on a Saturday. We got a seat outside. I got the brie cheese, bacon, and sun dried tomatoes omelette with pumpernickel toast, and my friend got the egg Benedict with a side of bacon. We also both got mimosas. The portions were great and the service was wonderful - both our host and primary server were very kind and sweet. It was so sweet, we were sitting outside and one of the servers saw we had stood up because there was a bee next to our food and we were trying to get it away. The server tried to shoo the bee away, and it finally left. He offered us another round of mimosas because of the worries. It was such a kind gesture. I won't say it's the cheapest breakfast/brunch option, but the service, food, and ambiance was 10/10. Would definitely come back!

Yelp
My folks come here for breakfast every Sunday morning, right when the place opens at 9am. So when I recently visited them, of course we had to continue the tradition! This restaurant has been around for 102 years, so they gotta be doing something right, right? The interior isn't huge but there are booths against the walls (booths for 4 diners against one wall, and booths for 2 against the other), with freestanding tables in the middle interior, and coatracks in the middle and back (more like a closet in the middle). The walls are covered with record album covers and photos. In the front of the restaurant is a long counter, with cloches and serving dishes full of huge muffins and cookies (they all looked bloody amazing!). All in all, it's a very warm and casual interior, and it feels like an old pair of favorite slippers. Comfortable and unassuming. We sat at a booth where my folks always sit, and although their usual server wasn't working that day, we had Devon (and she was wonderful). We had a variety of meals: mom had blueberry pancakes (lots of blueberries! She loved it), and my kid and my dad and I had a variety of eggs with bacon and toast and potatoes. It all was excellent. The bacon was crispy and they sure weren't stingy with portions (nice!), and the potatoes were great, too. I didn't have the coffee but the rest of my family did, multiple refills, in fact, and they all said it was excellent. Did I mention that the portions were very generous? I could not even eat my toast, even after giving some of my bacon to my kid. Two eggs, potatoes, toast and bacon cost $11. I think that's very reasonable. (I live in Vancouver now and that'd be considered a steal in Van). FYI: there is a parking lot directly across the street from Nick's and parking is free there on Sundays (probably on the street, on Greene, too), and free after 6pm as well. Nice!

Yelp
Chez Nick was absolutely delicious! Great service and loved the food. Ambiance was nice and it was just what I was looking for at the moment. I will definitely be back for more.

Yelp
Could not have asked for a better breakfast. My Salmon Benedict was spot on and delectable. Wonderful service.

Yelp
Made a reservation for 9. We all Showed up, drove 30 min to get there. Place was packed and they told us our table might be ready in 15-20 min so we left. Why take a reservation if you can't honor it?

Yelp
Nothing special, but decent food. I got the smoked meat sandwich which was really good. I found the bun to be crunchy and paired well with the smoked meat. The meat itself wasn't so oily as you'd expect at most restaurants, which was a plus for me. The mustard was served on the side which was to my liking, as I am not a huge fan of mustard. The meal came with fries, coleslaw and a quarter slice of a pickle. For just under $14, the quality/value was pretty good. The service was also quick and the waitress was really nice, and was open to speaking in both French and English. The main reason why it is a 3/5 is because it's a slight step up from your average diner. Tons of options, but decent food. Also, my friend ordered a soft drink in a can and was charged around $4 for it. I found that a little pricey, given that you can buy a whole case for roughly the same price.

Yelp
Almost 100 years old, this is the oldest surviving restaurant in its *original* Westmount location serving diners and regulars since 1920. Fast and friendly service, it's a nice alternative to Schwartz's, Moishe's and Wilensky's. Recently featured on Montreal's MAtv, this place is an institution with loads of character and if you haven't yet dined here, it's a must-see restaurant that is off the beaten path, away from the touristy area, visit for breakfast, lunch or dinner. They also do delivery for the surrounding neighbourhood. They have great weekday breakfast menu options including Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Omelettes, Bagels, Toast, English Muffins, Oatmeal, Granola, Fresh Fruits, etc. Their Weekend Brunch menu includes even more options such as Eggs Benedict, Feature Specials, Pancakes and Crêpes. Dinner options include Salads, Soups, Sandwiches and Hot Meals from the Grill such as Fish, Chicken, Meatloaf, Pasta, Chili, Liver, Burgers and Poutine. Come for the atmosphere and stay for the service!

Yelp
Great brunch - you got your coffee, your eggs, your bacon and your toast. No frills, no avocado toast or can-I-have-that-with-arugula-instead-of-fries? Nope - this is a hipster-free eatery. Just plain old good food, in a plain old diner setting, with amazing friendly service. Nuff said!

Yelp
Living in walking distance from this restaurant I often drop in for breakfast. It's been around for years. I remember bringing my mother here for coffee, sandwich or just a salad. The staff is quite friendly and the food is mediocre but the atmosphere is comforting. Friends, families and children all come here to share that connection and that's what can bring someone back here over and over again. I had Nick's special which is an omelet with sausages, cheese , pan fried potatoes served with your choice of bread. I opted for pumpernickel. Their special coffee is exactly the way I like it nice and strong. The only issue I had was a side order of asparagus and frozen to boot was $6.25.. Next time I'll ask.lol. This may not be a trendy place in decor but it's the community that comes here to share while eating food.

Yelp
Fun little cheddy place when you're absolutely smacked after a wacky wild night or you just want to meet with the boyz, but honestly, it's not the bestest - THAT BEING SAID, the milkshakes slap. It smells pretty nice in there. Also, I like the grandma/Nona candies they give out near the cash, I always take like 5. The strawberry flavored one is especially good. Thanks for coming back to Dylan's resto corner, and we're giving this one a 3 out of 5.

Yelp
Some of the nicest staff I have ever encountered! Delicious coffee mid-day and a beautifully rich history of the business. Now offering a movie night dinner special and deliveries are available in Westmount!

Yelp
Chez Nick is a Westmount landmark, with fantastic, friendly service and a sizeable menu. It's a classic diner, so there isn't a lot in the way of veg* options, but some of the dishes can be tinkered with accomodate. Definitely some of the best service I've seen in the greater Montreal area.

Yelp
I have been a regular for longer than I will admit to, however my last visit left a bad taste in both my and my lunch partner's mouths. We arrived at 12:15 and the restaurant did not have the usual line up, which should be a clue... We were directed to the worst table in the house, in the back next to the toilet... We told the new fellow that we did not really want that table, and were basically given attitude.. 3/4 through the meal, we were asked to move over, to accommodate more diners, so we left...no coffees.... The seater is utterly unaware who he is speaking with, and might want to change his tone... It is doubtful my lunch partner will ever return to this restaurant.... When people say they do not wish to be seated next to the toilet, perhaps offering to seat them in the first available booth might be a better option than having them walk out before they are finished eating... There is a reason a certain new restaurant in the neighbourhood is always full.....

Yelp
Great local hangout with homemade food and friendly service - many Anglo Montrealers are regulars here Highly recommend

Yelp
Chez Nick is a fantastic diner. It's extensive menu is perfect for all the meals of the day. Their burgers are fantastic, and they make deliciously simple milkshakes. I have been going there since I was young, and the quality of the food is still superb, and the service is by far top notch. It's perfect for people with all kinds of diets, and it is very kid friendly. It's easily accessible by metro and bus, and there's a parking lot nearby. It's a little pricey, due to it's location on the beautiful Greene street, but it's good once in a while for special occasions.

Yelp
It's a bit overpriced, but it has a nice neighborhood-y feel with vintage Westmount pictures on the wall. Sometimes I just want to hit up a place and get a sandwich, and this is in my neighborhood. For whatever reason, the servers don't really appear to be into refilling drinks, which has happened almost every time I've gone. This isn't enough to keep me from going back, though--I sort of feel bad rating this 3 stars, but the description "A-OK" is pretty spot-on for this place.

Yelp
I stopped by this restaurant the last time I was in Montreal for a quick lunch. The sandwich I got was good and it wasn't too expensive. Definitely a place I will go again when I'm not looking to spend to much, or it's a Sunday and everything else is closed.

Yelp
Thought place would have more character but it is just bad decor. Ordered a portobello brie sandwich and was disappointed! No sauce on it, mushrooms tasted like charcoal and i tried to wash it down with the water they served and all i tasted was chlorine and soil. The small order of fries are $4.65?! Why?

Yelp
Overpriced but pretty decent. Mazerattis parked out front when I was there... you can see where this is going.

Yelp
This is a decent neighbourhood place for breakfast. I had the vegetarian omelette, it was good but nothing special. Service was very friendly and prompt. Decor is a little dated but the place is nice and clean. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but it's a reliable place for breakfast if you're in the area.

Yelp
Although it's well located, it definitely lacks in quality. Food : it's okay, I mean nothing tastes bad per say, but it's all stuff that you make at home when you're in a rush between your sons karate class and daughters ballet lesson. Decor : simple, but true to what it has always been since opening decades ago. Nice. Service : very good. The staff is very friendly and checks on you regularly. A+ This is a place to go when you're in a hurry.

Yelp
Amazing piece of history. Been around for close to 100 years and never disappoints. Great staff and food, casual ambiance and great coffee! Breakfast all day is great option!

Yelp
Nick's on Greene Street is an upmarket breakfast place with established local clientele. Both tables and booths available. Efficient, swift service and straightforward fare.

Yelp
Nick's is a classic neighborhood dinner with a long history in westmount. Food is ok, decor is a bit tired, staff is friendly and efficient... but when it's your neighborhood dinner, somehow the food just tastes a bit better and a tired becomes cozy.

Yelp
This place is garbage. It is not only over priced, but they use cheap, low quality ingredients. Canned food is never acceptable for me when I dine out. I had the tuna melt sandwich and it was $15 without a drink!

Yelp
Pretty cool diner. Varied menu, and very helpful staff. Service can be slow, but overall it's consistent. The food is just mediocre, nothing too special. The rosee sauce is very underwhelming, and the soup was very watery. The croissant was also chewy, and 'punctured'. The grilled cheese wasn't too shabby. The Boccocini et Basilic sandwich is one of the best vegetarian sandwiches, that's also very light, I've had (though it can have a slightly earthy taste due to the alfalfa sprouts). But again, the staff is superb (4 stars for service)!

Carl A.

Yelp
A Westmount classic. Grilled cheese, milkshakes, Greek salads. Still a great place for a comfortable meal in Westmount.

N W.

Yelp
Super expensive, and you definitely dont get what you pay for. Ordered eggs benedict, apparently they dont know what a poached egg is, I got two boiled eggs on an english muffin...returned my plate, got exactly the same thing again. Not worth it !

Robin C.

Yelp
Very friendly staff, good food, oldest operating restaurant in Montreal. Clean and comfortable. Great service.

Christina V.

Yelp
Decor here is a little tired and boring. I liked the cozy atmosphere though. It is well located. I liked the food it was nothing incredible but good. I would go again if I happen to be in the area.

Robert C.

Yelp
Ate here a few times but never felt it was a good deal. This place has been in business for 90 years and they seem content to rest on their laurels....but I wouldn`t eat here again. High prices for mediocre food is nothing I need to settle for in a city like Montreal that has so many great restaurants.
