Amazing authentic French food, provides the perfect cute seating and eating experience no matter which time of the day you come. The chef really cares about his food/quality and often comes out to converse with diners. The staff are friendly, helpful, and attentive every time. I recommend going on Tuesday for the soufflés. Other amazing dishes: escargot had the perfect buttery garlic seasoning, duck was cooked perfectly, the basic bread and butter are delicious and fresh.

Philippe is a great chef. As a French I really enjoyed the food which is simple and comforting in a good way. It is not the sophisticated food you would find at snob restaurants and I like this. It is the classic bistro you would go with coworkers in France after work. As a French I was a bit disappointed that there wasn’t staff besides Philippe who could speak French but I totally understand.; in California that is not easy to find, so this is a personal detail. The day we went was pretty busy and we felt the stress from the rush so that wasn’t totally relaxing as an experience. But again Philippe’s cuisine is authentic and feels like a casual place from France, which is great! Suggestions for the paté : bring bread with it 😄 and waiters could announce beforehand the dishes not available Amitiés, Xavier

Every once in a blue moon, I'm being reminded of what the French cuisine is all about. It doesn't matter how far I venture for another culinary odyssey, there is only one Ithaca you can always go back to; and Ithaca, it seems, is in France. Chez Philippe is what the French cuisine is all about; at its core, at its most basic, at its most complex; at its most comforting, and at its most exciting; Chez Philippe is home. And just like in any home, Deena and Chef Philippe are there to make sure everything is going to be fine. From the best onion soup I've had outside of France, to the heavenly beef bourguignon, a croque madame you'll keep thinking about for the rest of the day (comme il faut), and a well-thought-out wine menu compiling the best that France has to offer. Yes, home. Food 10/10 Service 10/10 Wine Menu 10/10 Atmosphere 10/10

Beautiful i door and outdoor (especially the backyard), great service with servers always being present and accommodating food changes Cons: not very pleasant to pass through fridges and dishes to get to the backyard! They should really guide guest through the indoor seating area to the backyard. Neither size of the food and taste doesn’t justify the price. Duck was very small and nothing different from a chicken thigh. French onion soup was not bad but there are better options out there. Menu options are too little.

I went on Thursday evening to celebrate my friend's birthday. They had live Jazz music performances that created a relaxing atmosphere that went so well with their beautiful and delicious dishes. The server was very nice and friendly. I highly recommend this place and will definitely be back soon!

My partner surprised me with reservations at Chez Phillippe because I’d been wanting to go for a while. He even spoke with the chef beforehand and was told they could accommodate gluten-free. When we arrived, I told our server about my dietary needs and ordered the Duck L ’orange special, which was supposed to come with vegetables and mashed potatoes. The dish came out with rice pilaf, and when I asked if it was gluten-free, the server quickly took it back. My partner asked that the plate be completely remade to avoid cross-contamination. A few minutes later, it returned — but it clearly hadn’t been remade. I took a few bites of the duck before noticing bits of pilaf still on the plate. They had just scraped it off and added more green beans. I lost my appetite knowing I’d likely get sick and asked for it to be taken away. The restaurant only took $20 off the bill, and when my partner emailed later, the response basically questioned whether my reaction came from their food. We’re Los Gatos locals, and it’s really disappointing to have such an experience at a restaurant we were excited to support. For anyone with celiac or food sensitivities, please be careful dining here. The staff was polite, but the kitchen did not take gluten-free safety seriously.

Q food is excellent and the Owner is always polite to his customers. !!new girl blonde waitress, She is very rude I was unpleasantly surprised when she did the table service for us it was terrible but when I wanted to look at the photo next to the toilet when I was waiting for my husband, she told me to get out of here this is not acceptable for guests especially since we are not in this wonderful restaurant for the first time, I will choose another restaurant the next time, thank you!

This is a charming restaurant that is much bigger than it looks from the entrance rooms. There is a lovely back room with a live feed of the Eiffel Tower and a very nice patio area with a number of tables to sit outside. Our server was well versed in the offerings for lunch and gave excellent advice in my opinion. She was friendly, professional and highly efficient. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought the one dessert we ordered with a candle and sang Happy Birthday with us. We all had the excellent Onion Soup and split the Nicosie Salad and the house bread. A great experience and the owner was very attentive to our party as well and very charming.

Yelp
Very simply I love French cuisine, I went to college in Choisy-Le-Roi in Paris and lived in Mairseillan in southern France for 5 years. I like to think I know the food... before I went to Chez Philippe I had chosen from the menu what I wanted to eat and drink until the waitress the wife of the chef Philippe who I was graciously introduced to at the end of the meal... I have to apologise on the photos... half eaten food as I forgot to wait.. the restaurant reminded me of real French restaurants. Escargot always a firm favourite and these were excellent, perfectly cooked, with enough garlic to knock a horse out...the main I was recommended being cassoulet and it didn't fail, bringing back memories of a cassoulet cooked at a French vineyard around 40 years ago. Finally a dessert vanilla ice cream with poire William and an espresso. I have visited over the last 2 years every other French restaurant in the south Bay Area and this one is the best, authentic and the food is perfect... Thank you to the staff and Philippe I'll return before I leave ...

Yelp
Walking in, the ambience instantly transported me back to Paris that makes you feel like you've stumbled onto a tucked-away gem in the 7th arrondissement. Our server was kind and quick. To start, we had the duck confit salad and the French Onion Soup--both absolutely delicious. The soup had that deep, rich broth and perfectly melted cheese cap that clings to the spoon in the best possible way. The salad was light and fresh. For the main, we shared the grilled steak with caramelized shallots, fries, and green beans. The flavors were classic and well thought out, but the steak itself was a bit too chewy for my taste. The sauce was slightly sweet with the caramelized onions. The fries, however, were outstanding--perfectly seasoned, crisp and dangerously addictive. We ended with the tarte tatin, and let me just say: divine. A beautifully caramelized apple top and buttery pastry--warm, decadent, and the perfect finale. Overall, a cozy spot with charming French flair and a dessert worth returning for.

Yelp
I was really looking forward to dining at Chez Phillippe. My partner surprised me with reservations because I'd been wanting to go for a while. Before booking, he even went in person to speak with the chef and was assured they could accommodate gluten-free guests. When we arrived, I informed our server that I needed to eat gluten-free, and she was kind and said it would be no problem. I ordered the duck l'orange special, which was supposed to come with vegetables and mashed potatoes. When the plate arrived, it included rice pilaf instead -- I immediately asked if it was gluten-free, and the server quickly took the dish back. My partner specifically requested that they remake the plate completely to avoid cross-contamination. A few minutes later, my meal came back out -- but it was clear it hadn't been remade. I took a few bites of the duck and then noticed bits of the rice pilaf still on the plate. It was obvious they had just scraped it off and added extra green beans. At that point, I lost my appetite, knowing I'd likely end up sick for the next few days. I asked for the plate to be taken away. Another staff member (who we thought was the manager, but wasn't) came by to ask if I wanted something else, but by then, the experience was already ruined. Instead of comping my meal, they simply took $20 off the bill. Later, my partner emailed the restaurant to share our concerns and received a disappointing response that basically questioned whether I could prove I got sick from their food. For anyone with celiac disease, gluten intolerance, or food sensitivities, please be cautious before dining here. While the staff was polite, the kitchen did not handle my dietary needs safely or professionally. As a side note, we were seated on the back patio, which was chilly. There were several heaters, but we were told they couldn't be turned on "for fire safety," which made the meal even less comfortable. I truly wanted to love Chez Phillippe, but unfortunately, this was not a safe or enjoyable experience.

Yelp
I studied French for 5 years and really love the language and culture. I've noticed this restaurant when I've passed by and it was usually pretty busy. I made reservations online in the morning and it was confirmed shortly after they opened. This is a cozy French restaurant and it feels like you're in France with the music. Also a very down to earth atmosphere. I love supporting small local businesses too. Usually there aren't too many French restaurants so I'm glad this one opened up. The service was really good. The owners were very friendly. My Mom ordered the mussels with the fries and I had the croque monsieur. I liked the mussels better. The mussels had flavor without being too salty. We liked dipping the fries in the sauce. I would definitely come back to try different dishes. I want to order the escargot next time. Also there are specials every week. They have coq au vin, soufflés, etc. But you have to come on a certain day for the specials. They are listed outside on the windows of the restaurant.

Oh là là! © Poire-Williams Prisonnière Eau de Vie Alsace, complements of Chef Philippe! Merci beaucoup, Chef! Chicken in wine was Divine! C'est très fin! Customarily on this Saturday night, scanned the entrance & kitchen area for Kristi, Chef Philippe, and his wife, seeking to sit at the bar & catch-up! Let's hear it, what're the tonight's specials? Since that very first visit one night, couple of years ago, when I had stopped at Chez Philippe on a whim, no reservations & no plans, there were numerous, phenomenal, pleasant others! My other plans fell short that first night. Learned from welcoming lovely ladies with charming French accent that the restaurant was completely booked & offered bar seating... that's what started this love affair! It worked out so well, these days, I prefer small bar area overlooking open kitchen, to a dining room seating. Unless I'm here with a party of four or more, being at the bar is like being at the center of it all! You get to observe the Chef making magic! Fascinating! Exquisite French Bistro! Unusually high barstools, you've got to adjust your posture! Only wines & Champagnes are served, no bartender per se & no cocktails. I know what I want! You can't go wrong with Les Comte de Ribeauvillé Crémant d'Alsace Rosé Pinot Noir Brut! 37 bucks! Delicious! Salmon Pink, with aromas of red berries, delicate & fresh! Naturally, warmed French baguette, kept fresh in a cloth-sleeve, a side of butter, get ready to scoop up every last dripping of your main dish with! Phenomenal, melty cheese cover, it slurps pleasure into your mouth, oh boy! Hot French onion soup in a clay bowl holds the soul! Made friends with a random guy at the bar! He's French! Yelp
I had lunch with friends here recently, and was unimpressed. The owner? came over to our table and tried to convince us to order his special red wine. When I replied with a no thank you, he would not accept that, getting in my face and asking me why not. I told him that I could not drink alcohol, and he challenged my answer, saying that of course I could drink wine; everybody in France drinks it. I remained silent and he eventually departed. We were all appalled by his brutish behavior. The meal was acceptable. The mussels were deemed excellent. The salad was a little limp, the fries were hard and tasteless. The sandwiches were ok.

Yelp
We really enjoyed our birthday dinner at Chez Philippe. We had the escargot, which went really well with the fresh bread served. The goat cheese salad was really nicely sized and easily sharable among the 3 of us. My steak frites, which I ordered as medium, actually came as well done. My daughter's was suitably medium. I could have said something as they came by to check on us, but I didn't want to make them cook a new steak, so I said it was fine. So I don't hold this against them, but since it was served cut so the cook is easily checked, it would have been nice if it had been noticed before it was served. The apple tartin dessert was a little on the sweet side and a bigger scoop of ice cream would have been appreciated, but it was still good and the sweetness didn't overwhelm since we shared it three ways. Service was really excellent, very attentive to the right degree. The ambiance was homey and not formal - almost like if you were invited to the home of a friend who happened to be a French chef. We would come back again to try different dishes. My wife had the duck confit, which she enjoyed too.

Yelp
It doesn't get much more French than Chez Philippe. The interior looks like it fell out of a French Countryside design catalog, pictures of the Eiffel tower adorn the walls, and the air is full of melodic accordion music. Even the menu features all the heavy hitters of French cuisine - or at least what American's think of as French cuisine; Coq au vin, Steak Frites, Cassoulet, Escargot, they've got it all. As a vocal fan of French Onion Soup (but too lazy to make it myself), we decided to begin our meal by splitting a bowl which turned out to be a smart decision because while certainly delicious, it was quite strong and very salty so trying to polish off a bowl on your own might put you at a disadvantage heading into the entrée. I went with the Cassoulet while my wife decided to go with the Steak au Poivre, both of which absolutely delivered. The steak was cooked to perfection with a beautiful crust and, in keeping with the French tradition, was more on the rare side of medium-rare. The mashed potatoes (a substitution of the typical fries) were wonderfully light and fluffy, pairing well with the acidity of the green beans. For as good as that dish was though, the real star of the show was the Cassoulet which absolutely blew me away. It was the kind of meal I found myself thinking about days later, looking up recipes and wondering where in the world I could find Salt Pork so that I can attempt to recreate this beauty at home. If you've never had it before, I highly recommend giving the Cassoulet a try. You'll be thanking me later. Overall we had an excellent meal at Chez Philippe and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for high-quality traditional French cuisine.

Yelp
We had a wonderful lunch here. The French onion soup was perfect. We split the nicoise salad and croque madame, both were excellent. The best part of the meal was the tarte tarin. It was buttery and so sweet and absolutely delicious. A great afternoon out!

Yelp
I visited Chez Phillipe for the first time tonight, and I can easily see it becoming a favorite. The location is great... Santa Cruz Ave in Los Gatos is a very pleasant place to stroll, and there is plenty of parking. The decor is casual. This is a place that feels special, without being stuffy or pretentious. The menu is pretty standard French fare. It's somewhat limited, but there are several specials. Service was fast and casual. The food was simple amazing. It's basic stuff, prepared really well. I had the grilled steak (bavette a l'échalote) and my friend had the apple duck confit. We skipped the appetizer and saved room for dessert, and I'm glad we did. I had the Gran Marnier sorbet, and loved it! There are no cocktails, but they have a nice wine list. It's a tad pricey, but certainly fair for the quality of the food and service. I should mention that I am on a low-sodium diet. They were happy to prepare my meal to order without added salt. (Many restaurants pre-cook their sauces with loads of salt.)

Yelp
Loved our meal here! It was a cold, rainy day, so a warm coq au vin with a glass of red wine hit the spot. The steak was also perfectly cooked, quite rare. The bread was delicious, too, with softened butter. I'm not sure the green beans did much for me, but everything else was great! The live piano music also really contributed to the vibe. Great time here!

Yelp
Came here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon for a friends bday! We were sat immediately, as it was nine of us and our waiter was pretty attentive. We were sat outside when it was a gorgeous day. Restaurant is super cute and adorably decorated. They brought their bread to start and it was amazing. Super soft on the inside and crispy enough on the outside. I didn't order a drink but Others ordered mimosas. I tried the strawberry one and thought it was a little bitter tbh. I ordered the duck confit Benedict crepe for brunch and it was good except it wasn't as much meat as I tight there would be. I was left feeling still kinda hungry after but the taste was good. We also got a tarte desert for our friend for her bday and it was tasty! All in all it was a cute brunch spot, but I would have preferred something with a little more flavor.

Yelp
Super cute French bistro that we stumbled upon, don't know how we missed out all this time. Chez Phillippe totally hits the spot with very very well executed French bistro classics. Many places destroy the beautiful core flavors of these dishes but the chef does a brilliant job of letting the soul of each of the dishes really shine! It was a beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy this great food with a nice beaujolais! Escargot - parsley, garlic goodness. The escargot cooked really well! Of course you have to lap up all the butter! Warm baguette and butter - fresh warm, in a cloth sleeve. Given shelf life of baguettes surprised they do this, but it was really well done. French onion soup - again excellent execution, deep flavors of caramelized onion, beef broth , baguette croutons, melted Gruyère in a clay pot - a classic executed to perfection Pâtés - goose and duck - both brilliant and different. Goose was my favorite! Steak frites - perfectly cooked medium steak, the peppercorn Demi glace was so good you'll want to lick your plate Strawberry and butterscotch crepe - it stole the show!! The butter scotch sauce had notes of toffee and caramelized in oven before serving. Finally a crepe worth eating in bay area!

Yelp
We were curious about French food in the area and stumbled upon this place! It was cutely decorated inside and having a live pianist was definitely a plus. We were immediately served bread and butter, while deciding on what to order. French Onion Soup 5/5: This was a tasty soup! I don't know how anyone could get this wrong, but it was definitely thoroughly enjoyed. Apple Duck Confit 5/5: The duck was buttery, not too fatty, and paired well with the apple sauce. It was the perfect mixture of sweet and savory. The potatoes and green beans were well cooked, nothing crazy. Steak Tartare 3/5: Maybe this dish didn't really match my palate. I get the concept of steak tartare, but it was a bit on the sour side for me. It came with a few slices of bread which helped balance out the flavors, but I quickly got tired of the flavor. Service was great! They were quite busy with patrons coming in and out, but remained attentive throughout our time there.

Yelp
Chez Philippe has been on my radar for a sometime now and honestly the wait was worth the wait. Upon arriving our party was immediately seated partly due to being the beginning of the month and most people have rent/mortgage to pay. So dining out at the beginning of the month is ideal for quality time with friends without the crowds. Started the dinner with escargot baby leaf salad which was balanced in flavors. Bread was served swiftly and the only beer on the menu was a prefect opening to a fantastic meal. The special of the day beef Bolognese was super flavorful and the sauce was perfectly balanced. A total must have and worth returning in the future.

Yelp
This is an interesting French Restaurant. We tried the appetizer , steak, steak tartare, salad and duck. The first is different than the first time we visited few months ago. Not sure why, but different. Here is my scoring card for this restaurant: 1) Location: ( 5 Point ) - Great location for customer to see and find. Great parking for street parking and back side with parking lot parking. 2) Decoration : (2 Point) - They still have the original decoration. Clean and up to date. 3) Price: ( 4 point)- The price is competitive but still a little bit pricey compare to other same stars and type food they serve 4) Quality and Taste : ( 3 point)- The quality is ok, food taste is good and portions are average . 5) Type of cuisine standard : ( 4 point) - The style of french food they serve is pretty close to the way it was prepare in France. Not bad! But some dishes did have slightly modify to cater the customer's need Overall it's not bad and I thinks it's great to give it a try and let me know what you think. Go foodies Total max is 25 Score 18 Stars = 72% round up to 3 stars

Yelp
I usually visit Chez Philippe for dinner, but I'm so happy we decided to try their Sunday brunch--it was absolutely incredible! You can never go wrong with ordering a special, and Chef Philippe personally recommended the Escargot Eggs Benedict. Instead of the traditional English muffin, it was served on a delicate crepe, which made it even more unique and delicious. Hands down, one of the best brunches I've had in a long time! The strawberry mimosa was perfectly balanced--refreshing and not too sweet. My fiancé ordered the steak frites, which is always a winner, but this time, it was topped with savory onions instead of a sauce--such a great touch. I can't wait to come back soon and try more of their amazing dishes. Highly recommend for an exceptional brunch (or dinner) experience!

Yelp
Chez Phillipe is the most authentic French restaurant outside Paris! creative, delicious menu, and always something new. Phillipe and his wife Deena are the most gracious hosts...we always look forward to going back!

Yelp
This place is amazing. Every single menu item on here is incredible. It should be packed every single night. It brings me straight back to nights in Paris... It also has great service and live music. My mom and I went here tonight and I usually never leave reviews, but I feel like I should tell everyone I know about this place. If you're here for the first time, get the escargots, the steak tartare, and the tarte tatin! Please NEVER change a single thing about this place

Yelp
We had dinner at Chez Philippe in Los Gatos on November 8. I was particularly excited for this meal because it was a birthday celebration with my best friend, who always chooses excellent restaurants for us. I am very sensitive to butter, and my friend who had been there before for lunch, assured me that the restaurant would accommodate my dietary restriction. In fact, she mentioned my butter sensitivity when she made the reservation. Initial Impressions After we were seated, my husband ordered champagne. However, our server poured the champagne into a wine glass instead of a champagne flute. Although this was unusual, we did not mention it at the time. The Starter Three of us shared the chicken liver and maison pate, both enjoyable. My husband had the mixed green salad with goat cheese--slightly overdressed, but still good. Entree Selection and Server Response The restaurant's menu was quite limited, possibly due to its small kitchen. My husband ordered the duck confit; he found it satisfactory but nothing out of the ordinary. My friends both requested mussels with French fries, but our server initially brought out only one order. She quickly corrected her mistake and returned with the second order. To play it safe, I ordered the steak and made sure to inform our server that I could not have butter in my dish. The server responded, "What do you want to cook it in, water?" The comment was rather sarcastic, but I chose to let it go, not wanting to spoil the evening. My Main Course When my steak arrived, it was cooked nicely and was tender. However, it was served with a sauce that I could tell contained butter. I tried one bite to see if I could tolerate it, but I could not. I informed our server that my steak had butter in it. Without apologizing, she took my plate away without a word. Interaction with the Chef What happened next was the most disappointing part of the evening. The chef approached our table in an indignant manner and said, "Do you know that you're in a French restaurant?" He then continued, very arrogantly, "Do you know that everything here has butter?" Everyone at our table was shocked by his attitude. At that point, I lost interest in continuing the meal. Even when he eventually calmed down and suggested something else from the menu, I simply replied, "It's okay, never mind." Conclusion and Final Thoughts We had never experienced such arrogance and rudeness in a restaurant before. In the end, we had no choice but to leave and decided not to leave a tip. We enjoy dining out frequently and are quick to praise and recommend restaurants when we have a good experience. Unfortunately, this experience was memorable for all the wrong reasons, and I will definitely discourage my friends from visiting this restaurant.

Yelp
We enjoyed a dinner with friends at Chez Phillippe tonight. We had reservations for 6pm on a Saturday night. When we arrived, there were not many customers yet, given the early hour. By the time we left two hours later, the restaurant was full. We have eaten here before and enjoyed it then and also on this visit. We were first seated in a table for four near the entrance, with two of the seats being on a small couch (a very unusual arrangement). My wife needs to sit on a chair and our friends did not want to sit on the couch, so we were moved to another table with four chairs. (It was good that it was early.) Warm bread and butter was served as we were seated. Note that this restaurant does not serve spirits or cocktails. They do serve wine. My wife and I had the French Onion Soup ($19), which was very good. A nice onion soup base and coated with thick cheese, as it should be. We split a main course sized Goat Cheese Salad ($21) which was very tasty. Our friends split the Grilled Steak with shallots, vegetable, and fries ($42), which both enjoyed. We had the Tarte Tatin (Apple Tart) ($17) for dessert, along with Mocas ($7 each) and Cappuccino ($6). The tart was covered in a very tasty sweet sauce accompanied by a small sized scoop of vanilla ice cream. Overall the service was attentive, and the food well prepared. A nice way to have dinner with good friends.

Yelp
We came for my birthday in December and had a nice time. The service was prompt, we came around the brunch time. Food was fresh and very good, we all enjoyed our meals. there are several areas to sit, we backed up to their open kitchen, which I did not love, but it wasn't really that bad but if you want something, a bit more quiet without the noise of the kitchen you can request a table that is not backed up to the kitchen. You can also have a seat that overlooks their open kitchen at the dining bar, which is kind of cool. my fresh strawberry mimosa was also very yummy.

Yelp
We went there to celebrate my wife BD. The food was excellent, and the service was above all expectations. The only drawback for me was the fact that the very extensive "specials" menu I had to understand from the spoken words, and this is a little bit hard for me. But with wonderful advice from our waiter, we managed to make our selections, got three entries from the specials, and two from the main menu. My selection was scallops, and they were excellent.

Yelp
Food was great. Patio is cute. Friendly owners. Cheese soufflé is Tuesday special. Definitely coming back.

Yelp
The food was pretty good. We had moules frites and coq au vin. We struggled a bit with service though. Our experience was that it wasn't too kid-friendly. The menu also wasn't kid-friendly. Would recommend maybe for a date night but not for a family outing.

Yelp
IMHO What a lovely surprise, Chez Philippe is! A stranger on the street recommended Chez Philippe to us last week, and thankfully I was able to visit a few days ago. The restaurant was bustling when we arrived, and I was happy there was room for us in the back room! Dina seated us and Philippe took our order! Both were genuinely friendly and gracious! The back room is bright and beautifully decorated with a pink flowery wall. The TV screen over the credenza has a view of the Eiffel Tower! We ordered the salmon special, $35 and the Croque Monsieur, $19. Both were fantastic yet we were still able to bring home leftovers. I look forward to returning to Chez Philippe again soon!

Yelp
Although Chez Philippe is a bit pricy the restaurant setting is very nice with plenty of a French feel, the food is absolutely delicious, the staff welcoming, incredibly authentic i highly recommend this place

Yelp
Chez Philippe is my favorite French restaurant. Wonderful French café ambiance coupled with all the traditional and savory French dishes from Coq au Vin to Ratatouille to French Onion Soup to Cassoulet (my favorite!) Live music on Thursdays too!

Yelp
We had an absolutely lovely evening at Chez Philippe. From the time we walked in and we're greeted by his lovely wife, to the time we walked out--service was superb. It's nice that they offer reasonably-priced wines, so you don't have to feel like you've been Robben after getting a bottle. Their free bread and butter are next level and are definitely high quality. We had the French onion soup, escargot, steak frittes, and the coq au vin, which were all delicious. We finished the evening with their tart tatin, which isn't the prettiest presentation, but sure was yummy. The price of the food is slightly higher compared to some other French restaurants in the area, but it's worth it.

Yelp
Great food and service. Came for a birthday lunch celebration for my husband. Because it was sunny out, we opted to sit out on the patio to people watch. We shared a buttery and herby escargot in addition to the best French onion soup ever. For entrees, my husband tried the croque madame while I enjoyed my moules frites. Everything was wonderful and Philippe was so so nice. I look forward to coming back and trying the steak frites next.

Yelp
While the location has a lovely atmosphere, the service was nearly nonexistent. I lived in France for five years and frequents French restaurants in the Bay Area, I found the food mediocre, but the service was the true letdown. Plates piled up unattended, bread arrived after the entrée, and the payment process felt dismissive (being handed a machine without courtesy). Even a fast food place has better service.

Yelp
The best way I can describe the cuisine was good, simple, French peasant food. High quality ingredients and the sauces was good as French people do. Price was $100 per person which honestly isn't the best deal in town. Just remember, the French got a leg up from their country's brand, so 10-20% of what you are paying is their brand.

Yelp
We came here for one of our Saturday date nights - and we enjoyed the experience a lot! The hostess greeted us was friendly. The ambience is super cute and a down-to-earth European/French bistro. Wine prices for bottles are super fair, and you would be better off getting than the glasses. We had the escargot and the French onion soup as appetizer and the steak and frites, and mussels and frites for entrees. Loved our appetizers, not a person, but pre judgement aside, it was not gamy and melted garlic butter was superb! Soup, as many mentioned was not salty which I enjoyed. Did I mention that the table bread and butter were one of favs lol Had the flan for dessert and was pretty good too. I'll be coming back to with my girlfriends - including a French!

Yelp
Cozy little place along the main drag offering more-or-less standard French fare, but definitely tasty. Staff was very friendly - felt like a homey, family-run business. Would come back.

Yelp
Chez Philippe is our go to restaurant in L.G. We have been there several times and always had a great experience. The food is always so well prepared one really feels they are having a fine dinner in Paris. We cannot recommending it more highly.

Yelp
We were walking around and I looked at the menu outside. We haven't had escargot in a very long time so we walked in to make a reservation for 2 hours later. The complimentary bread- came out really hot with spreadable salted butter. The bread is one of the better ones I've had from a restaurant. I hate when restaurants give you cold hard butter and cold bread. We ordered: Escargot- 6 pieces to an order and not in their shell. They are in butter, garlic, and I think parsley. Tonight's special- duck cassoulet. Came with beans, pork belly, and sausage. The duck literally falls off the bone and was so tender. I loved all the flavors in this dish. Apple duck confit- came with potatoes and green beans. The same fall off the bone duck as in the duck cassoulet except this had a nice slightly crispy duck skin. Grilled steak bavette- caramelized shallots sauce (a tad sweet) and fries. I didn't try the steak but did sneak in 2 fries. I said they were better than McDonald's fries and my daughter said it tasted similar. Tarte tatin- I'm so glad we ordered this. If you like apple pie, this is a must. It wasn't too sweet and comes with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. I thought the prices were pretty reasonable and we'll be back! I saw a photo here on Yelp of their little market by the front door but I didn't see it tonight. In the very back room, there's a live stream of Paris. Street parking outside for 2 hours. If you go down a block or so it's only 30 minutes parking.

Yelp
Flavors are on point, presentation is cute, service is excellent! The Demi glacé reduction on the steak was full of flavor and the French onion soup was nice and chewy. If you're looking for French bistro flavor, come try this place. Bigger inside than expected!

Yelp
Came by for dinner the other night and it was a tasty experience. After spending a few weeks in Europe this summer, this restaurant reminds me of Europe, including the reservation process. Just like in France, reservations are "requested" with the restaurant and the restaurant has the ability to "accept" the reservation with an e-mail confirmation. Upon arrival, my table was ready upon arrival although the hostess was unable to "locate" my reservation despite my e-mail confirmation... There was indoor dining upon arrival along with a sign indicating that there is also outdoor dining. The kitchen is open and there appears to be a section by the entrance that features French snacks, I'm assuming for sale? The dining room is remodeled to mimic a house, just like in France. Some of the decoration, such as the stickered "bricks" were already falling off. There is also a small wall partition between the tables that are very close to the bathroom... Diners at the restaurant were very experienced, typical of Los Gatos. Our waiter was phenomenal with suggestions and checking up on us throughout the meal. The waiter wore a name tag on the uniform apron. Meal started off with the bread and butter. The bread was quite crunchy and the butter was very fragrant. Started off with the goat cheese salad and it was a huge portion...this might be good for 2. There was tons of butter lettuce, topped with a slice of tomato, a few slices of apples, along with a few warm slices of bread that were topped with goat cheese. The steak entrée was excellent. The steak was requested medium rare and came out medium. The steak itself was very juicy and flavorful, topped with onions and shallots. The side of green beans along with french fries were tasty too! Ended off the meal with a chocolate mousse which was phenomenal, a touch on the sweeter side and topped with some whipped cream along with some biscuit crumbs.

Yelp
Authentic French bistro. Good service like in France and everyone there is French. They give enough attention but also leave you alone. You have to ask for the check. They don't press your time at all. They even have kronenbourg beer on tap, which isn't my favorite, but I had to get one. It's the most popular beer in France. The salads were excellent and great quality. They have a nice patio in the back that filled up fast by early afternoon. I'm definitely going back here. Good addition to Los Gatos.

Yelp
It was one of summer Fridays me and my husband were looking for a place for a date night. Was browsing through Yelp, and there was a new restaurant in Los Gatos downtown. It was a perfect fit for us since we live close to the city of LG. The restaurant is actually a unique place. The owner remodelled the restaurant into a house. It certainly brings a homey vibe once we settled in inside the restaurant. It also has an open kitchen layout, so people can also sit on bar if they want to dine in solo. I had to order their french onion. Just had to. And it didn't disappoint! My french onion soup craving was fulfilled by them. I would re-order this French staple again in the future since it was that good. The other thing that we ordered was the Esgarco with garlic butter. It was delicious! Presentation wise also beautiful and enticing. You can also order for more baguette if you need some. Last thing we ordered was the beef tartare. Husband challenged their ingredients by ordering this dish. You could tell if the tartar was smelly, or even made you food poisoning if the beef was not prepared fresh and right. But they made it right and fortunately we didn't get any food poisoning or anything similar to that. They really take pride on their beef tartar. I can assure you that you will be satisfied with this dish. Will come back again in the future to order their pasta and salad! Parking is on street.

Yelp
Fabulous ambiance coupled with great food and service made for a lovely date night. I had the Cassoulet, my wife the steak with veggies and fries. Both were excellent. Chef Phillipe came by to chat at one point in the evening as well. Really made us feel like we were back in France. Thanks again and will be back soon.

Yelp
Another great addition to the dining scene of downtown LG! Authentic and tasty French food. I was there with a French friend of mine, our waiter was French and the owner who stopped by was also French. For a couple of minutes there, it felt like I was in France listening to the 3 of them talk. I loved the decor, it is very tasteful, warm, and modern. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The lunch menu was small but everything we ordered was delicious. I got the Crepe Complete and my friend got the Croque Monsieur. My crepe was delicious and so was the chocolate mousse. The owner Phillipe is super nice and I wish Chez Phillipe the very best. I am going to bet that they are going to do very well.

Yelp
This place is Delightful !!! Delicious meals, friendly waitstaff, charming environment- we had such a fun ladies dining experience- and we would all come back here again. We met Chef Phillipe briefly. He has years of experience in creating dining locations and all of that has landed in this lovely restaurant. We all agreed the mussels were top tier, fresh, moist and cooked perfectly to avoid the overdone chewiness that is so common at other restaurants. The broth was light, delicate and so yummy. The French Onion soup was spot on, the Duck Confit salad had tender meat and a beautiful dressing. Even the bread - we had several servings each as it was so good! So this place really had the whole package - food, service, environment. Definitely recommend and I will return again to share with more friends.

Yelp
I went to Chez Philippe for lunch today and had a wonderful time. The food and ambiance was exceptional...we felt like we were transported to France. What made the meal even more incredible is we had the best conversation with chef Philippe himself and his son Nick. They were so welcoming and kind. Chez Philippe is the newest gem in Downtown Los Gatos ...it's a must eat and see!
