French Beach Culture and Italian Food Come Together in Nice

"A socca stand–turned–restaurant located in the Cours Saleya market of the old town that has been cooking chickpea pancakes over a wood fire since 1925, imparting a rustic smokiness; the traditional preparation is so popular that portions often sell out before 1 p.m." - Kristy Alpert

The tarte de blette salee was really nice but the onion pizza thing was a bit average, and everything was cold. Waited in line nearly 30mins too and so wasnt that impressed tbh considering how long we waited. My friend tried the socca, she said other places were better and she wanted to try the sweet tarte de blette but they ran out.

We saw a line, so we intuitively joined it... you know, it was a clear sign that the food was worth waiting for. So we ordered two socca and a trouchia. I wish we could buy more of this!! The flavor was so soft and healthy. The socca was a bit too salty at first, then we fully enjoyed it. We absolutely loved it. You can use the toilet in their restaurant (in front of the little window where you order - watch out, the toilet door has no lock), but the seats are reserved for clients who buy drinks. So, to avoid eating while standing, we walked until ‘Square Abbe Isnardi’ :)

The socca from Chez Thérésa is a piece of living Nice. Freshly baked in a wood oven, arriving at the market by cargo bike — it’s all part of the charm. The lady serving was kind and warm, clearly proud of what she does, and the guy on the bike handled the oven like a pro. The socca itself? Thin, crispy, full of flavour and sunshine. Simple, authentic, perfect.

I wanted to visit the old town and wanted to find somewhere cheap to eat, and seeing the prices in the photos (The Socca now is 3.50 EUR, but nevertheless) I decided to check it out. I arrived to see a large queue and thought 'oh man, is it really good enough to wait for?' the queue was about 20 minutes but it moved relatively quickly so the wait didn't feel too bad. The food itself - I had never heard of socca before, and I was completely blown away. I wish I had tried it earlier in my trip so I could've gone for another round. I also had a slice of the pizza which was also quite good. The socca, I swear, I'm going to dream about it. Hopefully I visit Nice again soon and if so I'd definitely be back for more. If you're a person who isn't massively adventurous with food, I'd heartily recommend trying it.

I tried the Socca and Trouchia at Chez Thérésa and loved both. I actually just ran into this stand when I walked around the old town, so it was a surprise for my trip today. The socca was freshly made. warm, crispy on the edges and very soft inside – simple yet so satisfying, especially with a dash of black pepper. It’s my first time having it and I was amazed! The portion is large. €3 The trouchia (Swiss chard omelet) was flavorful, moist, and full of herbs – very traditional and comforting. I hope I can get a freshly made one though, but serving as cold also good. €3.5

We got Socca and Pan Bagnat. Both were absolutely delicious ♥️ Highly recommend if you would like to have something that belongs to the region

Google
Amazing food. Their pizza and socca was amazing and price was very reasonable. It was a big lineup to order but it was worth the wait. If you are in the area, check them out.

Google
Reasonably priced Nicoise street food. The Socca is the star of the show here, with its mix of crispy, soft, and salty bits. There was a bit of a queue, but it goes quickly, and there's shade to keep you sheltered from the sun. There's also a dine-in area a few steps from the shop, but make sure to buy a drink. I walked past their market location but would recommend coming here instead as the Socca is freshly baked on-site.

Yelp
If you are looking for authentic Nice food, this is the spot. This spot sells Socca (similar to pancakes that can be found in Nice only). As I was walking by there was a long line for this location which was disappointing. I got lucky on my way back there was no line. So I was able to order Socca, they were out of this world. They tasted really good. It was a new flavor/ taste to me which I really enjoyed. Lady who helped me was very friendly and nice. She was very patient while taking the order since I was not sure what to get. Her wearing an apron made the experience more enjoyable. It gave positive vibes. There is a seating area across from the store. If you buy a drink, you can sit and enjoy your Socca. You can also get them to go. The ambiance of the seating area was so calming and nice. It is decorated with the antics. You can find a phone from maybe early 80's, drawing on the wall was nice too. If you like to try authentic Locations not touristy spots. I highly recommend this location since I saw locals order food from here too.

Yelp
Local small shop. The line was super duper long (took maybe an hour), but wanted to try it out because I heard of lots of good things. When I finally got to the front, the workers were super nice! The soccas were huge!! And were flavorful! Also a good price! They had other food items, but I just wanted to try the socca. Would go back, even with the long line. There's also a seating area across the street either tables, but I just took it to go since there are tons of other shops in the area.

Yelp
Nice local fare for an economical lunch. The only drawback is the queue. There is almost always a wait and it moves slowly. I don't know why it takes so long except the production cannot keep up with the demand. One alternative is to find the bike which sells socca at the market. Socca is a nice snack made of chickpea batter. Think dosa with a thicker skin. Also, pan bagiat, nicoise salad in a sandwich. There are also a variety of pizzas, desserts, and pies. What should be a simple takeaway can take anywhere from half an hour or more. Hence, not the full five stars.

Yelp
Just don't get they hype. Always nice to try local traditions but don't get what the big deal is. Stood in line for 30 minutes. Not worth it imo. Not bad, but wouldn't recommend to anyone in the states who asked me where they should go in Nice. Even for price and "fast food" I'd suggest something else.

Yelp
when in Nice, go eat some socca. a crispy, savory flatbread of milled chickpea and olive oil, which to purists must be baked in a woodburning stove. well here it's on a fire-spitting drum and Theresa's socca sells as fast as it cooks to a never ending queue. sprinkle some black pepper and pair with a cup of ice-chilled rosê. fast food, french riviera style.

Alan R.

Yelp
Go to the stand at the market. That way, you get to see the Socca Schlepper deliver the socca on his bicycle. Plus, you get to see the Socca Drama Queen dish it out. The Socca itself is just okay but the show is worth the price of admission, which is 3 Euro for a small serving. You can actually just come for the show and get better Socca nearby at a number of places.

Bob T.

Yelp
Best socca in the city. Worth the wait. Go to the open market and get a piece in parchment paper. If you are in the city you have to try this.

James T.

Yelp
Standing in line for Socca (Nice chick-pea crepe) was well worth it. She (Therese) ran out so we had to wait for the guy on the scooter to deliver some more. When he arrived, she scooped some up and placed on some type of parchment paper. Add some pepper and you're ready to eat. Be really careful, it is HOT (temperature wise). 3€. You MUST TRY when you are in Nice. Look for a woman hovering over a black barrel in front of La Cambuse Restaurant.
