Chez Vrony

"All the wood and pleasant decor make for a cosy, rustic atmosphere indoors, but with the spectacular view you have at 2 100m above sea level, the terrace is unsurprisingly popular too! Traditional regional cuisine is served by the charming waitstaff. Incidentally, they produce their own dried meat and sausages here." - Michelin Inspector

Switzerland's Glacier Express Train Is Food Heaven

"The charming, car-free town of Zermatt... Our first runs of the day had been mapped out so that we’d be schussing down Slope 6 just before noon, guaranteeing a prompt arrival for our lunch reservation on the sun-soaked terrace of Chez Vrony." - Jen Murphy

"Named among the best mountain restaurants in the world by The Telegraph , Chez Vrony sits on Rothorn Mountain, a short ski down from the Sunnegga Express in the hamlet of Findeln. Housed in a rustic-chic Swiss chalet, it’s been in operation for 100 years and continues to be extremely popular. Lunch reservations are a must; request a seat on the deck for Matterhorn views, then start with the charcuterie plate, which features house-cured speck, bresaola, salami, ham, cheese, and a scoop of homemade rosti. From there, move on to the burger—Chef Vrony’s family raises its own beef, hand-packs burger patties, and uses perfectly seeded buns slathered with coleslaw and a secret sauce, making this a must-order even if it is quintessentially American."

One of the most unique experiences I’ve ever had. Sitting there, eating cheese fondue while staring straight at the Matterhorn… it honestly felt surreal. The whole place has this cozy, charming vibe that makes you want to stay for hours. Every dish we ordered was genuinely delicious. Nothing felt overdone or fussy, just really good food made with care. Our waitress had the kindest smile the entire time, which somehow made the whole experience feel even more special. The hike up wasn’t bad at all. It actually made it feel like we earned our meal, which made everything taste even better. If you’re anywhere near Zermatt, this is a must.

Google
Absolutely unforgettable! Chez Vrony was hands down the best dining experience we had during our 7 days in Switzerland. The food was beyond incredible — every bite was a delight. The atmosphere is magical, surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, and the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. A perfect blend of taste, scenery, and hospitality. We’ll be dreaming about this place for a long time!

Google
One of the highlights of our trip to Zermatt. The walk down from Sunnegga was scenic and not too difficult. Our seats at Chez were perfect, definitely the best view in the house! The food was delicious and staff were so friendly. We opted to walk back to town from the restaurant and it was again worth the extra time vs riding the funicular back down. (We made a reservation prior to our trip, we did see people get seated who didn’t have reservations. Would definitely make one to ensure your table.)

I have photographed weddings here and planned parts of elopements for my couples. The staff are so lovely and really make sure that "workers" and clients are well taken care of. The food is great and the views are amazing. The place is nicely decorated and really a little wedding venue gem in Zermatt.

Google
Chez Vrony is worth every step! 🍔🍺 The service was warm and welcoming, and the food was fantastic — the Chez Vrony burger was juicy and flavorful, the panachée beer super refreshing, and the potatoes and rösti were simply delicious. For non-hikers: Take the Sunnegga Gondola from Zermatt, exit toward Wolli Park, ride the short lift down, and follow the pink pole trail through Findeln. It’s a scenic and fun walk (just watch for skiers when crossing the slope during winter time!). Getting back: hike up the same route and take the Wolli Park cable car up and Gondola back to Zermatt! A must-do mountain meal with amazing views!

Google
What a great place! We ordered fondue, the burger, and the teriyaki ribeye as well as orange lemonade. Delicious cuisine in front of incredible views. Excellent service as well.

Google
Great food, stunning views, a lovely atmosphere, and warm service – always a pleasure, even despite the challenging weather and complicated journey. I truly enjoyed my Easter lunch at Chez Vroni. Thank you!

Google
We had lunch at Chez Vrony three times, and each visit was an absolute delight. The atmosphere is fantastic—cozy, welcoming, and perfectly situated for a relaxing break. The service was exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff making every meal special. The food was delicious and fresh, with standout dishes like the beautifully presented carpaccio and the warming Bloody Mary soup. Highly recommended!

Yelp
Wow - breathtaking views, fabulous service, outstanding food! We did the shared tasting menu for lunch. The meal was fantastic from start to finish. The salad was superb - we were amazed at how fresh the produce tasted in the middle of this mountain setting - we loved the dressing. The entrees of beef and fish were both delicious along with tasty sides. Dessert was such a treat! One of a kind, memorable experience! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Incredible! The food was delicious and they are so so nice. The vibe at the place was also amazing. It's definitely worth going to. I accidentally left a fanny pack behind and they were kind enough to bring it straight to the reception at our hotel in Zermatt instead of having to hike up to the restaurant!

Yelp
One of my favorite places to eat in all of Zermatt, especially after putting in some work on the slopes. When we arrived, we were welcomed with friendly staff and an incredible view of the snowy mountains while sitting outside. There were comfortable Chez Vrony blankets available along with magnets on the menus to counter against windy days. The ravioli was one of my favorite dishes - super memorable and beautiful.

Yelp
We went to Chez Vrony while hiking today the 5 lakes trail. We thought they weren't open yet for the season & pleasantly surprised to find them open for lunch & had room for us. The staff were extremely pleasant, professional and happy to help us in English. The food wasn't cheap but it was exceptional. We had aperol spritz, salad and the vrony burger. I highly recommend all of them! Too stuffed for dessert but they looked lovely. Oh yes, awesome view of Matterhorn from the terrace too. All fantastic!

Yelp
Had the most incredible lunch here! We went on a clear day and had a direct view of the Matterhorn. While the online reservations were booked out, we were able to call in the morning and get a table for later that day. We asked to sit outside, and they had blankets provided for us. The food was good, we especially enjoyed the truffle pizza, and it was convenient being able to ski down to a restaurant with such nice scenery. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Fancy mountain lunch. Service is excellent. Location on the mountain is ski in, ski out. The outdoor seats would be amazing if the sun is out. Setting is rustic but chic, if a bit tight indoors. Great wine selection. Food is excellent too. Lamb cutlet actually were 2 double lamb chops, perfectly. I was expecting a schnitzel or something but was pleasantly surprised. Desserts were crowd pleasers.

Yelp
Amazing food and service and views! My girlfriend (elite '24) left her Fanny pack and they were so nice and brought it right to our hotel in zermatt! Saved me a trip back up the mountain to get it for her! So sigma indeed!

Yelp
Michelin restaurant overlooking the Matterhorn I can't recall what we ate but it was all good: from the risotto to the gnocchi Take the funicular to the Sunnega and an easy peasy hike down to the restaurant (about 20 min but we took our time) Do plan on hiking back up to make the last funicular down at 17:20 (20min if your a fast hiker) If you miss that it's about a 1.5hr hike down.

Yelp
What a fantastic gem of a place this is! We went from Zermatt to Bleuherd and hiked the 5 lakes path to Chez Vrony. We had no reservations and we were seated outside. The views of Matterhorn and surroundings were breathtaking and added to a wonderful lunch. We had salmon tartare for appetizer. The freshness and flavor of this dish was beyond amazing. We ordered more food - mountain goat ravioli and gnocchi. Our lunches looked gorgeous and tasted delicious. We couldn't wait to try dessert, we ordered apricot cheesecake. This place is a gem and a highlight of our trip! Must-go.

Yelp
Hidden on the slopes of Zermatt is a hidden gem of a restaurant! You ski up to the restaurant and stick your skis in the snow and walk in! We were lucky to sit outside so we could sit back and enjoy the view of the mountains! The food... this place has the best food on the mountain! I had the Goat Cheese Ravioli with dried pears, simply amazing! Others got the Burger that tasted very good and the Gnocchi that was awesome! The service was excellent! Note: try to get reservations early!

Yelp
You don't get better food while hiking than Chez Vrony. The service, food, drinks, and view is above and beyond; it's like a dream. Don't miss the salad, tomato soup, and gnocchi.

Yelp
The. Best. Lunch. Of. My. Life. I cannot say enough good about the food, setting, and service at Chez Vrony. There is no greater experience than hiking all day and coming across this little gem of a restaurant high in the Swiss Alps. My wife loved the fresh lamb with risotto and local herbs. I had the gnocchi with fresh black truffles. It was simply incredible. The views are unending and fantastic. The staff was amazing.

Yelp
Zermatt is famous for its Michelin star cuisine and I had the privilege to eat at one of these amazing restaurants. Chez Vrony sits on the mountain side and after skiing all afternoon we ended up here for a most amazing lunch. The ambiance is out of this world. Vronys brother is an artist and has repurposed all sorts of items to create chandeliers and abstract artwork that fills this establishment. The service was extraordinary but when your eating with the owners best girlfriend, this is likely going to be the case! The beef cheek and sweetbreads were so special and full flavored. We were quite full after a hearty meal so when we were asked if we'd like dessert. We all politely declined. So they brought us a six plated menagerie of desserts anyway!! What a fun day.

Yelp
Amazing food, lovely atmosphere, and great service. Cannot recommend this place enough. My server Jasmine was so sweet to chat with me during my visit as I was traveling solo -- thanks Jasmine!

Yelp
Make reservations! Plan to make an adventure out of it. We came in September, and was a nice cable car and a hike to this spot. I'd say it could be strenuous depending on your activity level. Did see some struggle a bit with the in and out of here. Had a lovely view sitting outside. Delicious drinks and food. Literally can't go wrong with anything here.

Yelp
This place was the highlight of our visit to Zermatt. We were really nervous when we read about the walk to it since there really isn't a whole lot of info on exactly how you get to it. We needed to know the level of difficulty before going to know what we were in for. I'm here to tell you that the walk was really magical and not difficult at all. I'll tell you about the food and drinks and then I'll tell you exactly how to get there. I got the goat cheese ravioli and boy was that just perfect! I wish I could get that everyday. Most everyone else got the teriyaki steak. I got to try my husbands and man was that good! I got the aperol spritz since that was my drink of choice on this trip and that was made perfectly. The atmosphere is awesome too, especially if you read about the history of the building before you go. Views are amazing. Staff was very friendly. Now on to the journey. You take the funicular up to Sunnegga, make sure to stop to take pics of the Matterhorn! From there you go thru the tunnel for the kids ski school and take the elevator down. Once you're down you just walk straight along the rope that goes under the ski lift above. From there you will just follow that path. Be watchful on your way because this is ski run of sorts. You'll see the little village eventually where you'll walk thru and past the coolest wooden chalets and even some other restaurants. You'll eventually do a zig zag down a bit of a hill and then you'll walk the path at the bottom there until you cross a higher traffic ski run, so look out before you cross! You will eventually run into Chez Vrony right in front of you. To get back to the top, don't fret that you have to walk all the way back up. Walk just down from the restaurant a bit more and there is a lift that you can buy tickets for and it'll take you right back up! Make sure you have reservations before you go as this place books quickly and often doesn't have any openings for walk ups. I've heard occasionally they do, but you don't want to make that whole journey just to be turned away!

Yelp
This place really is magical and I wanted to love it. You ski up to this restaurant and the aesthetic is out of this world. It's like a log cabin of your Swiss dreams. When we were there it was foggy, but it's known for the best view on the mountain! I also heard the food was wonderful, so I was excited. I was disappointed with a few things- the service was very slow. Our server forgot our drinks and had to be reminded a couple of times. We also waited for the check for 30 minutes after asking for it twice. The food was also less than mediocre. We ordered fondue first, which itself was good, but the bread was really hard and tasteless. For our mains we got the burger. The coleslaw was very watery and on the bottom bun so trying to cut this in half was a mess and made the bun extremely soggy. The chips were good, but seemed to be just average, from the bag, tortilla chips. Again, I wanted to love it here because of the views and hype, but it just wasn't the best experience for us.

Yelp
Excellent service and the most amazing view. Definitely try to share because it's a lot of food. We were a group of 4. Ordered the burger, flatbread and fondue. For dessert we shared the cheesecake but easily I could have had it all by myself. It's not a typical cheesecake. It's light and delicious. It's worth the walk. Make reservations.
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely worth the effort to get there! A high class, high quality family owned business. The food was over the top! Service was friendly as helpful. Peaceful ambience with an epic view looking directly and the peak of Matterhorn. But do come be prepared for the hefty price!
google avatar

Yelp
we actually went to the local's favorite Freinhoff one slope down trail. Food was perfect, pasta Napoli and Arribiata, 1scoop coffee ice cream the best 2 espresso front row seating of Matterhorn.
google avatar

Christian L.

Yelp
Most epic meal I've ever had. The food and the views are unmatched. Best restaurant in Zermatt. You must make a reservation.

Pamela S.

Yelp
We ate lunch here, and cannot say enough positive things. The food is great-- we got the famous burger. The inside in quaint and the outside has a spectacular view. The service was friendly and accommodating. Very easy to find off the Sunnegga chairlift.

Yelp
I had broken my wrist so was not able to ski down. We went in march after it had snowed and the hike up wasn't that bad. We took the lift up and then hiked for about 10 minutes downhill. To get back we walked a bit and took the lift down. We paid around $10 each to get there. While it wasn't bad if it is snowing you should wear proper footwear and have the proper jackets as it gets quite cold. We had the Vrony burger and fondue. The burger was very good. It didn't taste quite like burgers in the US I was used to but was excellent nonetheless. The star was the fondue. It was some of the best fondue I have ever had. I plan on going back when my wrist is better and will ski/snowboard in. The views are jaw-dropping. If it isn't clear you may not be able to see the Matterhorn so if that is your goal make sure it is a clear day.
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
The views and location are a 5 Star all day. Super disappointed that we didn't know we needed a reservation to order any food. We had to sit outside and we had a few drinks but were denied food service. Make sure you have a reservation! We went down the way to another restaurant and ate there instead and it was great.

Yelp
Best of the best. This restaurant is all: romantic, idyllic, beautiful, appetizing and yet congenial. This is undoubtedly one of the best three restaurants in Valais and perhaps one of the very best Alpine restaurants altogether in the nine countries sharing this mountain range. Chez Vrony is located steps from the ski run (piste) No. 6 in Findeln - for skiers, and can be accessed by a short walk from the Sunnega Express funnicular, for the rest of mortals. Perched on the ravine in a typical old-style Swiss hamlet, the ample outdoor terrace provides stunning views of the Matterhorn. If you're agoraphobic, perhaps you should eat inside (although I can't imagine anyone who is agoraphobic going to Zermatt). On a sunny day, which is the rule in Zermatt, the terrace fills with customers sunning themselves while feasting on the restaurant's offerings. There is also a side terrace for just sunning and drinking. The restaurant has its own dairy and local source of organic, mountain grown meats. It bottles water under its own name also, providing for an additional cachet. entering Chez Vrony, an army of waiters and waitresses makes you feel like a king or queen. The selections do vary, although the tagliatelle is to die for, and (believe it or not) the local organic hamburger is probably the best I've ever tasted. A full bar with both cocktails, wines and coffee drinks compliment the offerings. The seats, all covered by lambskins, provide for an additional comfort, and there are blankets for those who want to stay and lounge while absorbing the once-in-a-lifetime views of the Matterhorn. As to prices, yes, they are steep. But well worth it. Reservations are a must.

Yelp
Chez Vrony has managed to transplant the chic atmosphere and allure of a trendy NYC west village restaurant right onto the ski slopes in Zermatt (Findeln to be exact). Chez Vrony is the classic chalet on the slopes, for easy ski to access - Findeln is a little more than an hour's hike from the center of Zermatt and the hike up to Findeln offers some unique views of both the Matterhorn and Zermatt. The restaurant in and of itself is large 3 story encampment with plenty of patio space and lawn-chairs set-up with direct views of the Matterhorn. They provide huge sheep blankets to help keep you warm as you sip your choice of wine, beer, or hot chocolate. The spaghetti and lamb hit the spot on a cold day. Some of their soups are little hit or miss and I would not recommend the spicy tomato soup with lamb (although they do offer to spike it with Vodka). Overall the food is in line with quality Swiss dishes but the atmosphere is what makes this cozy lunch spot an attractive destination for skiers. The restaurant is a little on the pricey side but that is expected for "elite" cuisine served-up slope side. Note: reservations are essentially mandatory during peak lunch hours if you want to have a shot at eating inside. In colder (i.e. sub 0 degrees Celsius) temperature you'll be able to walk up and get a seat on the lawn-chairs.

Yelp
As great as all the reviews say. Terrific & friendly staff, marvelous owner (Vrony), great food, jaw-dropping views. The Vrony Burger lives up to its name, but my wife's Rostï with bacon and egg was divine! My instructor's Amatriciana looked amazing too! Go. Often.

Yelp
Fantastic views, delicious views, amazing quality products... what more do you want? Run here, no ski here!

Yelp
Beautiful location! Mile open view ( if weather allows)on Swiss Alps. Small place but have 3 or 4 levels. Nice service at all 3 visits we had. You got to have burger at this place - it's out of this world!! Pasta was god as well - but burger better ! And good German beer to accommodate this.
google avatar

Yelp
We had a great lunch here earlier in the ski season. It is a nice little restaurant in Findeln and worth a stop. My hot pot was really tasty and just the right amount of food while my son enjoyed his alpler rosti
google avatar

Yelp
Chez Vrony needs no review- amazing mountain restaurant to have lunch and to enjoy a breathtaking view after a day of shooting the chutes in low altitude glades. The mother of the great skier Max Cotting owns and runs this establishment among many others...

Yelp
This is an exceptional family-owned and run ski-in-ski-out restaurant near the Furi near the furi lift. Thankfully we had a lunch reservation because the wait would have been over an hour, though the food is certainly worth the wait. We were greeted by the owner, who was warm and hospitable. While we were originally seated on the outside patio, with a gorgeous view of the Matterhorn, the staff immediately accommodated our request to switch to an inside table, once the wind picked up. The ambiance is rustic and charming, and the food was outstanding. My sister loved the hamburger, and my roasted chicken salad was fresh, hearty, and satisfying. The service was friendly and accommodating, especially considering how busy it was during lunch. I wouldn't recommend walking here if you're not skiing. Multiple people, including our concierge and ski guide, advised that walking down from the gondola is an option. However, we skied by people doing so, and my mom tried to make this walk the following day, and it did not look pleasant. You definitely would need true waterproof hiking gear and poles, as the trek is snowy and slippery. I cant wait to return to Zermatt just to ski here for lunch! Truly fantastic.
google avatar

Valencia P.

Yelp
If you can make the 2 hour hike up the mountain , pass the first restaurant and go straight to Chez Vrony, trust me, best food (including Röstie) in Zermatt. Loved it !!
google avatar

Lex L.

Yelp
If you're only going to one mountain restaurant while in town, choose this one. Setting and views are beautifully, my wife and I had one of the loungers, which saw us lying on a sheepskin rug, overlooking the Matterhorn and with a few cows (and obligatory cowbells) clanking away melodically. Food was excellent, had the lamb and the ravioli. The ravioli had just the right touch of balance of sweet honey and alpine goats cheese. Apparently everything here is Alpine / locally grown. Even had a bottle (2 in fact) of Zermatt beer before a bottle of Syrah Rose (it was summer) and it honestly was beautifully matched to the mountain air. Was one of those "best beers I've ever had, but will only taste this good when looking at the mountain on the bottle" moments. How good? We are here in Zermatt for 2 days and are wrestling over whether we have our 2nd lunch there. Go go go!
google avatar

Christopher L.

Yelp
Beautiful place in mountains. Food was amazing staff is great. Reasonable prices. The outside tables fun but cold no heaters.
google avatar

B O.

Yelp
Hands down, the best place to eat while Skiing in Zermatt. Excellent service, drinks served to perfection and the ravioli made it worth taking a few hours off from the slopes. The view of the Matterhorn from the fur-covered lounge chairs is just about as good as it gets, nonetheless at a ski-in, ski-out gourmet restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
Yes, you will trudge through snow lugging your skis to find this place. Yes, you will probably get lost. Twice. Yes, reservations really are a must. But Chez Vrony is worth it and all the hype you've heard. It's a cozy chateau perched right on top of a little "hilltop"...amongst Zermattt's vertiginous peaks. Order some fresh greens, wine and local meat - okay and fondue - and take in the scenic views. Oh, and that little thing you're looking right at? It's called the Matterhorn. What we ordered: BIG SALAD FOR TWO (4/5) Huge salad jammed packed with the freshest greens and veggies and topped with earthy seeds and nuts. All of the ingredients were tasty, I just wish they let the quality of the veggies shine rather than loading it up with so much dressing. If I were to do it again, I'd ask for the the salad to be lightly dressed or dressing on the side. LAMB SHANK (5/5) I walked in and eyed this baby on someone else's table. Boy, is it a beauty. Meaty, rich and perfectly cooked, this lamb shank was a stunner. The polenta is a wonderful complement, counteracting the deep meat flavor with earth and butter. SALMON (5/5) Little slices of heaven. The salmon was fresh and had a nice blend of flavors. I was particularly fond of the texture. The risotto it was paired was delicious too. So is Chez Vrony everything it's built up to be? Yes. Yes. Yes. Be sure to make a reservation in advance, this place gets packed and definitely try to snag a seat on the patio, or better yet the upstairs terrace. The warm service, scenic views and tasty dishes will keep you coming back - or at least visiting it in your Swiss daydreams at the office.

Yelp
Way over rated nice sunny deck Don't get stuck on one of the thin bench tables We were seated there and before our food arrived a few Regular 4 tops became available but they would not move us even thought the tables remained vacant at 3 pm

Yelp
Very good experience! No disappointment.z Try the pastas and tagliatelle with goat cheese with caramelized pear was our favorite! No better place in Zermatt for sure!
google avatar

Priscilla M.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant in Zermat. It is oozing charm with a dramatic panorama of Matterhorn as well as plenty of arrangements of seating to lounge and enjoy the view. Reservations required in winter, whereas Summer is a lot more relaxed.
google avatar

Liz G.

Yelp
We hiked upto Chez Vrony from our hotel in Zermatt and were not disappointed by anything. The drinks, food, service and view were all well worth the hike. I have the Bloody Mary soup (without a shot of Vodka) and the Ravioli, both were fantastic. My husband had a burger that actually came with directions on how to eat it, as it was so big. It's a great place to visit!
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing atmosphere on the slopes of Zermatt. You either ski there or have to take a gondola there and hike in. Food was delicious and big portions! The kids hotdog was twice the normal size with fries on top. My daughter was jealous she didn't order that, but she is 16! I started with a small Bloody Mary Soup with a vodka shot in it. The small was more like a bowl of soup.. so when my veal mushroom Rotta came.. I barely had enough room in my stomach to finish., but it was delicious. Rotta is like American hash browns. My husband had foir Gras and then the Bouilibase soup; one daughter had a burger with yummy coleslaw on it and the other had beef short rib and mashed potato! 2 got dessert: Gingerbread cheesecake was to DIE FOR! And my daughter got the brownie: I did not taste that! Staff was very friendly and attentive

Yelp
We were fortunate enough to host our wedding ceremony at the magical hillside restaurant Chez Vrony. The Staff and Chefs at Chez created an unreal experience that left all of our guests in awe. The host Vrony was very accommodating and made sure that all of our needs were met. Our guests loved the food and raved about the salads and charcuterie. The gradual walk down offers breathtaking views of the Alpes and Matterhorn. We were able to try some of their other dishes on a different day and we all raved at how amazing the food was. The burger was enormous and had wonderful flavor, the salad was very fresh with delicious goat cheese and the wild game meatloaf was perfectly cooked with wonderful seasoning. We cannot praise Chez Vrony enough for the quality of the food, staff and experience, all exceeded our expectations!

Yelp
I don't think there is a better on-mountain dining option in Zermatt. But that doesn't mean five stars by default: the food is good, but not consistently five-star good. Also, if you want to eat here, DEFINITELY make a reservation. Okay, to start with the high points: First and foremost, the Bloody Mary tomato soup is among the five greatest things I've ever eaten. Seriously. And I'm not normally the biggest fan of tomato soup. It's incredible, and that was BEFORE they came by and asked if they should add vodka to it (FYI, don't say "no" to that question, here or ever). Also notable was the service: not incredibly fast (though I'm from NYC, so ALL service feels slow to me outside The City), but extremely warm and friendly. Big plus to the experience. After the already-discussed soup, we had the veal, which was excellent, and the perch, which was good (but not excellent). A brownie-and-blackberry-mulled-wine-ice-cream dessert special was similarly good, but the brownie in particular was nothing to write home about (and let's be honest, you're in Zermatt, so you probably ARE writing postcards home). Overall, very good experience. Strongly recommend, and definitely worth the price. But not a steal (except that soup; oh God, that soup...). Finally, a warning that as of right now, Yelp has the location wrong for Chez Vrony. It is NOT in town; you have to take the "6" run from Sunnegga to Findeln to reach it.

Yelp
This place is pretty amazing. It appears to have been here forever and it is extra cozy. We stopped in for a late lunch. The girl and I shared a meat and cheese platter which was delicious (and huge). We barely had enough room for the soups to follow. She had the hay soup (don't hate, it was pretty good) and I had the Bloody Mary soup which is exactly what it sounds like, with spicy chorizo. Perfect after a day of riding. Some issues: There are ads for this place scattered about, but there is only one *one* sign directing you to this place. And it's about 100 yards from the restaurant. Take a lift/ski towards Sunnegga and ski down towards Findeln but make sure to stay to your left (there will be a fork in the run). Ski down to get out and take the short lift back to Sunnegga to get home. Worth the work. Be sure to make a reservation.

Yelp
My wife kept telling me about this place. We knew that we needed to go here. But, a summer skiing injury to my leg made it look like we weren't going to be able to get up to Findeln to try Chez Vrony. Alas, my leg was feeling better late week and we found our way here for lunch. I'm glad we did. Let me say that the only thing better than trying this place on a beautiful summer afternoon would be skiing in to Chez Vrony during the season for après ski. It has such a great feel and the location is truly breathtaking (I hate to use that word because very few things are breathtaking, right?). But, wow, what a special location. Situated along a rural dirt road in the rustic and quaint hamlet of Findeln, and with only a few structures, you really have feeling of being in a rural Swiss village from hundreds of years ago. And, great Matterhorn views. We made reservations about an hour ahead of time and arrived there to find it pretty busy but not overwhelmed. I would guess it might be swamped in the winter. The menu is fairly small but it had a lot of great looking items on it. We decided to try and create a sampler for our table since it all looked so good. We had a single order of fondue, my wife got a salad with local cheese and I got the bloody mary soup with lamb andouille sausage (and, a splash of vodka). This was just plain excellent, well thought out food utilizing local ingredients along with some really great decisions made back in the kitchen. Service was great. Perhaps one of the nicest parts of the whole experience was the owner coming up to us as we were leaving and shaking our hands and thanking us for coming. He was genuinely happy to see us, thankful we came and wanted to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Outside, before we descended back into Zermatt, the kids got on the trampoline and bounced away while me and my wife relaxed on these incredible little wooden lounge seats with amazing Matterhorn views. Very nice. If you have the time and energy then hike to this very special place from the Winkelmatten area above Zermatt. The road to the right of the Winkelmatten playground (goes behind the church) takes you to the edge of town and on to the trail up the valley to Findeln. It's a two hour hike and another hour or a little less to get down but it's worth it. Another option is to take the funicular to Sunegga Paradise and walk down 15-20 minutes to it. Then, after dining walk back up to Sunegga or walk down the valley to Zermatt. I don't think you will be sorry. There are also several other nice restaurants in Findeln as well.

Yelp
Amazing view of the Matterhorn and amazing food. We had the lamb, rosti and the pasta. They were all spectacular! We went around late March, so it was relatively warm on the mountain. Best dining experience I had in Switzerland and I would love to go back to Zermatt

Yelp
Excellent. Not the easiest to find. We did not want to ski past it, so we would stop, look for signs (yes they are there) and ask people on the slope. But worth the effort. You take off your skis and walk the short path and stairs down to the wooden style chalet. We sat outside. They provide warm blankets. Amazing view of the Matterhorn. The staff was very attentive. Food was great. Its definitely worth a trip inside to look at the cozy environment. They have a small store on the 3rd floor. The only bummer was that it was very expensive. But on par with most of the restaurant we ate at. Our group had a smattering of fish and meat. Our kids loved the Rosti. It was not just the food. It was the work to get there, the isolation on the side of a mountain, the view of the Matterhorn, the inviting staff. Not to be missed !!
