Atlanta’s Best Coffee Shops | Eater Atlanta

"A hidden gem located in a strip mall in Lilburn, Chibo Coffee is an Ethiopian coffee shop that has Ethiopian coffee on espresso, drip, and also offers an Ethiopian coffee ceremony served in a jebena, a traditional Ethiopian and Eritrean flask used for coffee. The shop recently started roasting its own beans and offering them for sale. The house-made Ethiopian treats, like sambusa and kinche, are delicious and made to order in-house. Tesfa Baye and his wife, Tsedey, operate the coffee shop with kindness and exemplary hospitality." - Eugene Buchko

I am having a lot of first experiences, however, Chibo Coffee is another 5-Star rating in all categories. Excellent environment to sit and have a coffee with your breakfast. Service is top-tier! Food is amazing! Chibo Coffee will be our new, main coffee spot!

Today we went to an amazing Ethiopian Coffee Cafe. Chibo Coffee is so good. What I love is that they roast their coffee beans on Wednesday in-store. No wonder the coffee tastes fresh and smells divine. I had the decaf pumpkin latte and it was perfect. My daughter had the iced mocha. It was sweet but not too sweet. A lot of times, if the coffee is not good the mocha overwhelms the drink. Not was not the case here. She bought the turmeric teff latte to go because she loved her first drink so much. Sarah was the one who took our order. She was friendly, sweet and patient. She took the time to listen to what I had wanted instead of rushing me. Good customer service is key to any business. Well done Sarah. The food was delicious as well. I had the almond croissant and it was the best one I've had in a while. My daughter had the egg and cheese bagel. She also said it was delicious. If you are looking for a cute and homey atmosphere with great coffee and service, make sure you stop by and support this business!

Delicious Ethiopian coffee and expertly made food make every trip to Chibo a rewarding and cozy experience! The owners and staff are always so welcoming and engaging! It’s easy to see why this coffee shop is a neighborhood fave. The sambusas and kinche are a must try as are their breakfast sandwiches and kale chicken salad. All of the sweet baked goods are exceptional! Every guest is treated like a treasured friend which further explains why they have so many long term loyal customers. On the weekends, be sure to check out their brioche French toast!

Went here yesterday, such a cute place and good vibes. I enjoyed the coffee and the customer service was exceptional. The lady at the register was very helpful and kept a smile on her face. The other lady working always had a smile on her face. Great place, I don’t live close but will be back to visit this place.

Google
Absolutely 10/10 authentic Ethiopian coffee! They roast their beans fresh themselves every week on Wednesday. They have single origin, organic, natural coffee beans. They have both washed and unwashed coffee beans and would totally recommend checking out this cafe! They have WiFi and they passionately explained the process behind how they roast the beans and the differences in flavors you get from various beans. The cappuccino and tea are fantastic! Would highly recommend this place for coffee lovers! Also for working here, they have 500 mbps download speed for internet! Amazing for doing work here!

We ended up here not intentionally and as a Ghanaian-American… AMAZING ✨🇪🇹 the presentation, education and execution was a great experience. The flavor of the traditional coffee without and sugar should be your first experience then add your sugar or half and half. The traditional bread is not sweet nor bitter. Great flavor, soft and somewhat savory. I dipped it in the honey after trying it by itself. I loved that they brought it out and then timed when they would be back to pour it out for me. Explaining how she hand washed the beans 3xS then roasted it that day. The flavors were all new to me and I took it all in with so much gratitude. Thank you for bringing your culture to Gwinette county.

I love this cafe!! It was so quiet with soothing music playing in the background. I truly felt motivated to complete my work. They bake all their pastries fresh and their croissants are chef’s kiss. You have got to come here. The staff is also so welcoming and friendly.

Yelp
This was my first specifically Ethiopian coffee. I may have had some before but didn't know it. Staff was full of genuine smiles and customer service. They knew some customers by name. Iced mocha 16 oz heavy milk was excellent, rich with full bodied flavor. I would have liked a little more ice, but that was minor. Pretty darn good. When in area I will be back.

Yelp
Came here to get drinks and food for my family. We had a large order and were greatly accommodated! We got the egg and cheese croissants, a cream cheese and honey croissant, avocado toast, plain croissant, americano, and 3 lattes. Everything tasted so yummy and it was freshly made and warm! The drinks were also great and not overly sweet and smooth. Definitely want to come back again. Plenty of seating inside.

Yelp
Very vegan friendly! Some items include honey, so do be warned if that's an issue for you. They offer several vegan dishes that are unique and varied. I highly recommend the Injera avocado roll and the honey aromatic latte! The staff are very kind and friendly and answered my questions in helpful detail. Fantastic place I can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
This is a cute little hidden cafe. I read other reviews of how "remarkable or incredible" the coffee was but it was nothing out of the ordinary or palette mesmerizing. Aside from a latte, I ordered the egg/cheese croissant which was delicious. Had a danish and samosa. Samosa was dry and some lentils under cooked. The danish was decent. I would have liked to order something else but was not made aware of a picture menu available until I left. The service was very friendly and they even offered to re heat my coffee since I was there for a while and it got cold. It's also nice, clean and themed out well. They have wifi here and it was a good spot for a quick work sesh.

Yelp
Came here because my original destination, Beans and Butter Coffeehouse, was closed for July 4th weekend. This was my first visit and had zero expectations. It's amazing. This is an Ethiopian coffee restaurant that also sells sandwich's and snacks, in addition they roast their organic Arabica coffee in-house every Wednesday. I got an almond milk iced latte; it was stong and smooth. The employees are very kind and decided this is my new spot.

Yelp
Wow this place is fantastic. I accidentally found this place after looking for a coffee shop for my wife to go to with a friend and after reading the reviews, knew we had to go. We decided to come here yesterday for a Valentine's Day lunch and the owner was here. He went over each item on their menu and showed us pictures of the items and explained what each thing was in great detail. Pretty much everything is organic and Vegan as well. The owner explained how the roast their own coffee and they make everything. As someone who has worked in culinary for quite sometime and is a well traveled, it's easy to take certain things for granted when you become accustomed to it and when you can't find similar thing, it can be frustrating. The coffee here is truly remarkable, you can taste the difference. Usually we prefer visiting coffee shops that are owned by roasters as their coffee is made from beans roasted with a few days, but not more than two weeks. So knowing they roast their own in house is lovely! The food. Wow!!! We had the Pastee, Kinche, Chibo Vegan and Avocado Toast with Turmeric Sauce. Everything was presented very nicely, and the taste and texture was pleasant. Now all I can hope is they create a dinner menu so we can get Togo at least once every two weeks. As for décor, it's very relaxing, inviting and a place I would highly recommend to couples, for a date, hangout with a good friend to have great coffee and food and deep conversations, or to hangout solo, relax and read while enjoying coffee and a lunch. Very impressed, outstanding customer service and friendly. These are the types of businesses I love to support where they love what they do and take care of their customers. It shows in the quality of the food and coffee too. Highly recommended. Will be back. [Review #705] (3rd Review of 2024)

Yelp
Delicious coffee, wonderful staff, and beautiful interior! Chibo Coffee is nestled in the corner of a Five Forks Strip Mall and is only a few minutes from the local library. They offer authentic Ethiopian food and coffee, and even have vegan options! We visited a half hour before close and met the owner, he made our yummy coffees, and was delightful and very friendly! We ordered a 12 oz hazelnut coffee with whipped cream and a 16 oz vanilla latte with oatmilk. Both drinks were perfectly balanced and delicious! The price was also less expensive than other local joints. We spent around $12 for both drinks including the add-ons. I can't wait to go back and try their other drinks and get a slice of Tiramisu! Update: We went back and tried their delicious food! Photos attached :)

Yelp

Yelp
Have been here twice and had a great experience both times. London fog is so good, 10/10 recommend. Chechibsa is good, seasoned well. They offer honey with it but I prefer without the honey. Chibo quesedilla is yummy. First time I had it was the best. Second time was a little too cheesy for my preference but still great overall. Had the sambusa on a previous visit and didn't really care for it. I prefer a regular samosa over sambusa. Lentils were kind of dry. Overall if you're in Gwinnett and interested in a local coffee shop this was a cute find! The lady at the front is so sweet and very helpful when ordering.

Yelp
The coffee is so good. I love getting a latte with oat milk and adding sugar to taste. I also am obsessed with the pasti's. I'm plant based and they don't disappoint with vegan offerings. Also the owners and employees are so warm and welcoming. They get a 10/10 for me.

Yelp
Chibo Coffee is a friendly little family owned cafe tucked in the back of a shopping center across from Kroger and next door to McDonalds. There's a Starbucks across the street but I wanted to try a local joint. The owner is Ethiopian and he said they roast their own beans in house. They have an assortment of sweet pastries and savory options. Decor is simple but open. There is a nice assortment of art on the wall and they have traditional art coffee sets for sale too. We opted for the Chibo Coffee. The owner said it's made to order and takes about 8 minutes. It was brought out on a very nice looking tray and had a raw sugar bowl. The coffee is small and meant to be poured in an espresso cup. The vegan lentil pastry we ordered had a great mix of spices with the right amount of heat. The coffee was also very good. Deceptively light for such a dark roast. Service and staff were attentive and friendly. Little gems like this are why we always try to visit a family owned establishment instead of a mega chain.

Yelp
Delicious latte and tiramisu in a comfortable setting on a foggy afternoon: perfect. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Yelp
If you're looking for a unique coffee experience, I highly recommend visiting Chibo. This was my first time ordering Ethiopian coffee and chose the authentic Chibo style which takes a little bit longer to brew but the wait was worth it. I drank it without cream and sugar and was pleasantly surprised by the taste and strength. It is served in an individual pot with a small cup. It was smooth but had a tinge of bitterness towards the end. I will definitely be making another trip for the coffee. In addition, I tried the Chibo quesadilla which was delicious and flavorful and was very filling A small but comfortable establishment, I can't wait to try more of the menu!

Yelp
A great local coffee shop! Open every day from 7a-6p. There is a good selection of drinks on the menu and some Ethiopian sides like sambosa and chechebsa, as well as a good selection of salads, cupcakes, etc. I had the chai latte and it was very good. I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Chibo is a wonderful addition to our community! Kind people making a variety of amazing coffee and tea drinks, and delicious food. Their cafe is so clean and stylishly-decorated. Orders are made by the lovely husband and wife team, so do have patience and sit back and enjoy a moment of relaxation while you wait

Yelp
This independent coffee shop is in a whole tier above anything else in the area. The atmosphere is great, with cute decor and seating available. It's It would be a great place to study or get a little work done! The owner is very kind and knowledgeable on the coffee and will tell you about it as he makes it in front of you. He hand roasts his coffee, which is delicious! The food is also amazing to go along with it. I highly recommend!
