Best sauna place in the city, don’t expect luxurious amenities, but everything works and the saunas are great, cold plunge pool amazing, but the food is amazing. Just a great place to spend a fee hours weekly.

I was disappointed with my experience here. They do not make it clear up front that their SOP (or "admission" fee, under the FAQ section of their website - who reads those when booking at a spa?) is to charge $45 a head to use all their communal facilities, which include their locker rooms with your own locker, sauna, jacuzzi, cold pool, and steam room. You can opt to just get the services you booked, but when I initially said I wanted to do that, the woman behind the desk got hostile and gruff. I decided to go ahead and cough up the money to get the full experience, and she slapped down a robe, towel and shower shoes on the desk in front of me. I'd wanted to have my massage first and then my facial, but she informed me they'd do my facial first and then the massage. My friend and I sat at the bar, where the bartender was the only semi-friendly/gracious staff member I encountered there. Then we checked out the downstairs. The locker room area was small and choked with people. We enjoyed the jacuzzi and steam room, but the sauna was disappointing - most saunas have a pleasant, relaxing heat to them, but this one was like stepping onto the planet Mercury. I jumped up in pain after attempting to sit down on one of the benches in it - it almost burned my skin, it was so hot. When it was time for my facial, the facialist was even gruffer than the receptionist chick. She directed me to lie on the table and pull down my robe a little so she could do the treatment. I told her it I'd be most comfortable just leaving it off and covering myself with the blanket. She actually said, "I don't care what makes you comfortable, I'm just here to do your facial." I should've just left at that point. However, the facial was decent. The massage was disappointing. The massage therapist didn’t ask me if I had any areas I needed her to focus on, as is customary. I asked her for more pressure a couple of times, and she let me know that what she was doing was the best she could do. It wasn't good. In summary, all but one of the staff were amazingly rude, the services were mediocre, and I didn't appreciate the steep, mostly-hidden fee. Will not be returning.

Great banya with good old Soviet and modern food. Love pelemeni, chebureki, pickles and a whole chicken dish is to die for. Good selection at the bar, they even have my favorite Baltica beer. Friendly staff, great massages for post workout and overall good crowd there, so I always make sure to visit whenever I am in Chicago.

A local friend recommended this spot to me, I called for an appointment one day in advance and booked a facial and massage for the time of my choosing. Both services were EXCELLENT, the facial was so professional and a true skincare facial with extractions, infrared, etc. (not just one where they later on a million creams). Massage was amazing and attentive. I didn't sauna but everything looked clean and cozy, this will definitely become my spot for affordable treatments when I'm in Chicago!

Would not recommend this place specifically for massages. My partner and I got a couples massage and the woman who did mine was really terrible. I asked her twice for more pressure, and she was very inconsistent with it. Both masseuse’s were using LOTION instead of massage oil and they paused the massage literally every 30 seconds to grab more lotion. I’ve never experienced that before and it was incredibly frustrating. I had asked for the masseuse to work out the knots in my upper back and she chose to use only her fingers to move the knots around, not her elbow or any part of her forearm. It was a very useless massage that we got to pay $225 for.

Best spa I’ve found and have been going for years! Very fair pricing, clean facilities, unique European vibe, friendly staff, good food and drinks that can be delivered to the sauna itself! Well worth a day trip here.

Very disappointing experience at red square Bath in Chicago. The atmosphere was dominated by loud russian music that felt completely inappropriate given the current global climate. When we politely asked for adjustments, we were ignored. The bartender (beard and glasses) chose to dismiss our request and walk away to wash dishes rather than engage professionally. Customer service was extremely poor, the attitude was dismissive, and the overall cleanliness raised concerns. The space did not feel well maintained, and basic hospitality standards seemed to be lacking. Chicago deserves better than businesses that show disregard for guests and operate with such low professionalism. Very outdated soviet approach

I came with my mom, grandma, and sister on a Friday morning so there were only like 2 other people there. They provide towels and robes as well as slippers. We only went in for the hot tub and sauna so it was only $45. The receptionist was very friendly as well.

Had a few hours to kill before my flight back home and I spent it here. Very relaxing, laid back vibe. Bring your swimsuit. They provide robes, towels and slides. On the ladies side, downstairs, there is one large sauna, one steam room a couple of lounge areas, a jacuzzi and several showers. There are also private rooms for body scrubs which I enjoyed. Upstairs, there is a bar and restaurant where you can dine in your bathrobe. Prices are affordable, drinks are well made.Great spot!

It is just ok. A very small two person hot tub with no jets (water could have been way warmer), a wet and dry sauna, again small, dully lit with dirty mops and pails on the floor. I asked for the mud wrap and they gave me the salt scrub. The salt scrub was barely a rub and definitely not a scrub after one quick pass of an oily salt and 7 minutes under a plastic film with towels on top, a shower and lotion. $150 dollars with tip included. The demand the tip as payment - By the way, this isn't legal. The cost was way too high for the cheap scrub I received. I am so disappointed as a spa/sauna aficionado - this place was blah.

It's a unique old school place where you get some good quality sauna time in. It is hot! Very good high temperature! And the ice bath - wow, it is cold! The bar upstairs is a must place to stop by for an ice cold beer afterwards. Highly recommended.

I really didn't think this place was bad at all. I am from Maryland where we have much bigger spas, so I was surprised by the size but overall I enjoyed my experience. The hot tub was small, but clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed my massage. And as a bonus they have really good food and drinks.

Not much more to say but mission accomplished. No issues with any of the workers. The place seems clean and every time I am there I have a new experience. Love it.

So I was gifted a spa day at the Chicago Bath house. To say this wasn't close to what I anticipated is an understatement. First, the location. This spot is located off busy Division street. Parking is not ample but available off the street or you can use their small parking lot off to the side. You feel like you've walked into any other business other than a spa. The smell isn't inviting.....you smell cigarettes and pool water. The dressing rooms are located on the lower level. Everything is dated and you're concerned about cleanliness. I got a massage, a facial and a pedicure (my gel manicure was still fresh, no need to redo). My massage was painful ....my facial was lovely surprisingly and my pedicure was mid. Their robes came in only one size, medium , sorry top heavy ladies, bring your own robe. DO NOT FORGET YOUR SLIPPERS. Do NOT walk barefoot in the locker areas (they do not provide slippers). My rating is actually one star but I gave 3 stars as they were really friendly and attentive. Unfortunately not pleasant enough to return for another spa day. This place was just not my cup of tea.

I'm reading some of these reviews and am quite shocked. I've been going to the Chicago Bath House for quite a few years now and make every attempt to visit monthly as a treat to myself. I visited this establishment prior to the name change from Red Square Spa to the Chicago Bath House. I have NEVER had a bad experience and the attendants have always been open to feedback and quick to respond to any issues. I have always felt welcomed and and the customer service is warm. I have purchased spa services, but mostly just enjoyed the sauna areas. Every space is consistently clean. The sauna is very spacious allowing for several women to enjoy at once. The wet sauna I don't use often, but my friend only uses it. When I've used it, I did quite enjoy it. I turned on the jets, set back and enjoyed it. The steam room seats five to six people comfortably. The sitting area has space for about five people. There is a bench and 3 additional chairs with the foot rests. The co-ed area is also clean. I have used the co-ed sauna and co-ed sitting area, and eaten at the restaurant. I have visited the restaurant even at times I am not selecting any spa services. The food was very good and the service is always great. Keep up the great work! I highly recommend.

Came here with my boyfriend for some us time. In the women's area, there are 2 saunas (184 degrees and unmarked for the second), showers, and a hot tub. For co-ed, there's a sauna and a waiting room. I was under the impression there would be a water circuit available - think sauna, steam room, cold plunge, salt room... but that was wishful thinking. $40/a person for a day pass which includes two towels, sandals, robe, and a locker for your belongings. I don't think I'd return because I prefer the more pampering/upscale spas and circuits, but I'm sure my boyfriend would be here all the time if he could.

Great night out with the fellas! Friendly staff, great amenities, good food! Would come back!

the co ed area may is like a hallway, the steam room there is intolerably hot (i'm russian, so trust me on the temp), if ur going as a couple spa experience DONT!. The male area is not very clean, and is crowded. our visit included the general pass, some food/drink, 30 min facial 30 min massage, which were not great, we paid over 400 dollars for the visit. I've been to many russian banya all over the world, this is not a good one, for the cost, could've probably gone to a proper spa not a crowded not clean facility my lady told me there was a dude in the women's area with a bunch of women, very wrong and invasive

If I could give it a zero I would. The staff were not hospitable at all, the food was subpar. I went downstairs to use the sauna and it was disgusting. The jacuzzi wasn't working, a light bulb was out in the steam room, the lockers are broken, there BUCKETS OF BROWN DIRTY WATER scattered all over. The steam room seats 2-3 max, same for the jacuzzi. On the way up the stairs to the restaurant the stairs were dirty with dust and crumbs, upon reaching the door we are greeted with mops and more dirty buckets. After speaking with the staff upon our departure, they denied everything and were unhelpful. Asked to speak to manager and they just took my number down instead, I will not hold my breath. Would have taken pictures but it wasn't allowed. I will not be coming back. Wow.

My buddies and I make it a holiday to go here once every month or two. It is one of our favorite places in Chicago. I will say the spa area is very gender segregated. If you go with a mixed group expect to be split from your opposite gender counterparts until you eat together upstairs, which I highly recommend that you do. The food is very traditionally Russian and very good. There is a small coed portion with one sauna, though. The men's spa area has a cold plunge, a cold shower, hot tub, sauna and steam, along with many showers. It also has various loungers in case you want to take a break or read a book. Admission comes with a robe, slippers, and two towels. Some go naked but I recommend bring shorts or a swimsuit. It is a great place, I highly recommend. Try the beet Vodka

Had a great massage and facial for a great price. For lunch, I had a crepe with caviar. Highly recommend.

I've always been fascinated by this place but never came! My husband gave me a spa day for Valentine's Day and I'm so glad I tried it! I had a great massage with Romero and a great facial with Elvia! I also got my nails done by Elvia and she was wonderful. They add 15% upfront to each service and they charge you $15 to take off your nail color!!! Also additional $20-40 for the usage of the bathhouse depending when you go.... So I honestly don't think I'd do that again- too small of a hot tub or the sauna ( unbearable for me) or small steam room again but my services were wonderful and overall service was great!!! PS be prepared to spend $!! My total was like $262 for my $190 package after tip and bathhouse add on!!! ( wowzer) oh lots of men too!! Like too many for me

I've been coming here for 15 years. The wet suana is the best in the city, but the cold plunge is the main attraction. Unfortunately for the ladies, there is no cold plunge on your side, just a giant pipe that dumps cold water from above. (They also have this in the men's area if you're not comfortable sharing the cold bath.) The last few years business has picked up (probably joe rogans fault) while there are more people there is alot less full frontal nudity. Always leave feeling incredible and clean. I do miss the old days when you could order outside food and smoke in the waiting area.

Went here tonight and had a bad experience. The spa only has a steam room, jacuzzi , and sauna. The jacuzzi wasn't working. One of the lights in the steam room was out. Probably 10 random buckets around the "spa" area, some of which had brown liquid... when we went up to the restaurant the stairs were super dirty and there were mops everywhere. We told this to the front desk when we were leaving and they offered nothing, didn't say sorry even and basically denied everything we said we just experienced. Left less relaxed than when we came in

If I could give zero stars, I would. I've heard a lot about this place and was very excited to visit. I've been calling them two days in a row during their working hours, but unfortunately no one bothered to respond. On the third day, they picked up. I asked them, if the sauna is separate or combined, and they said that most of them are sharable. I met my friend there, and learned from the front desk that that information was quite un accurate and only one sauna room is sharable. We had to leave, since we wanted to spend time together. Second time I went there with my female friend who was visiting me from LA. We went there very hungry. I ordered the borsch, she got ribs. After 45 minutes I felt like they are making it from scratch, however, when I finally tasted it was pretty disappointed to find out it was at least 2 days old. Ribs arrived in an hour. Sauna rooms itself were dirty and filthy. One out of two rooms was off. Ladies with kids added bubble bath to the shared bath tub. Shared sauna room was occupied by a big loud group of people. When I brought up to the front desk that soup took an hour to make, they simply ignored it. Terrible place, wont come back.

I have been coming to this bath house for many years, and have always enjoyed the experience. This time was quite different. Before going into the sauna, I noticed the temp for the sauna was 204 degrees. It was not possible to stay in there for more than a few minutes at a time. When I left, I had informed the front desk of the temperature and how uncomfortable it was. Their response was, that temperature is quite normal, they even go up to 240 degrees and also do work in the sauna at that temp. This is what I found on the internet... The temperatures for the traditional saunas range between 150 and 190 degrees Fahrenheit (66 to 88 degrees centigrade). Unless they bring the temp down, I would not recommend this sauna.

Amazing place to sauna and cold plunge for men. The women's and communal areas only have a sauna option however

Great day at Chicago bath house. Enjoyed a facial, full body scrub and a 1 hour message. Spent time in the saunas, steam rooms and hot tub. Bring your bathing suit to also enjoy the coed areas. Had a great lunch of soup and salad while there. Every thing was immaculate and clean. Also had some very tasty beet vodka!
