"If you’re looking for a true taste of Chicago, then this is the spot for you. In addition to the quintessential Chicago dog on the menu, there is also a good selection of other Windy City fare including Italian beef sandwiches, Polish sausages, and meatball sandwiches." - Andra Zeppelin, Paul Albani-Burgio

Google
This place is legit! My husband and I live in CO and are from Chicago and are so happy this is here, the beefs are amazing and the hot dogs are true Chicago style. I love all the memorabilia, it’s like a Chicago museum in there. Highly recommend.

Jacob Lucas

Google
Listen, I'm not from Chicago but the night I had dinner at this local gem I felt like I grew up there!! Fast, friendly and the fact that the place is a genuine time capsule really hit home for me. The food?? Incredible. We had the Italian beef with chili cheese fries, my lady had a Chicago dog and we shared a polish. The polish tasted so rich, buttery and perfectly cooked and the Italian beef was everything i thought it would be. The couple working there will make you feel right at home!! I can't wait to visit again!!

Google
Amazing set up and atmosphere. The people there actually have a personality and are super funny. Food is amazing and decently priced. It's in a weird area of town with construction so pulling into the parking is a bit tough but that's the cities fault. Can not wait to come back here and eat more food ❤️

Jesse Blum

Google
Fantastic Chicago dogs, beef sandwiches and more. Great Chicago decor and lots of napkins for the loaded Chicago dog! I have to try Green River soda the next time I come. Hadn't heard of it until coming here. Clean and friendly staff.

Jamie Jay

Google
If you’re from Chicago this place will feel like home. Just like stepping into your neighborhood hot dog shop. The beef sandwich is true Chicago style, the exact right bread, wet with au jus. The beef was seasoned a little too salty imo, but still loved it. The memorabilia collection is awesome.

Alan Ball

Google
Well, hallelujah! I finally found a place in Colorado to get a real Chicago style hot dog! The Italian beef is really good too. The place is like a museum and tribute to all things Chicago. Loved it!

Justin Woods

Google
I drove super far for this, the Italian beef was terrible, the bread was so soggy I couldn’t eat it. The Italian hotdog was pretty good, fries are whatever. I don’t get what all the hype is about. Bathe I just ordered the wrong stuff? I highly suggest not to order the Italian beef sandwich the back of the bread was soaked where it was so gross. The sand which didn’t really have a bunch of flavor . If this is exactly what Chicago food taste like then it’s not that good

Robert Wolff

Google
What a little gem, food was amazing, the people running it were so amazing and fun. Old school Chicago all the way!

Jesse B.

Yelp
Fantastic Chicago dogs, beef sandwiches and more. Great Chicago decor and lots of napkins for the loaded Chicago dog! I have to try Green River soda the next time I come. Hadn't heard of it until coming here. Clean and friendly staff.

Yelp
Delicious! This place is the real deal. Great food & good service. Plus, they dip it like us Chicagoan's like. The hot Giardiniera is epic!

Stanley R.

Yelp
There is a very angry and upset lady that works here. The hot dog was great but I hate entering a restaurant and feeling like I'm a burden for walking in the door. Just to be clear- I asked no questions and did not request any substitutions, I just ordered 1 Chicago dog. I'm from Chicago, I know how it goes! There are other Vienna Beef stands in Denver, would recommend checking those out before trying this one... the lady behind the counter is so pissed...

Michael W.

Yelp
I love this place! I always make a point to stop in and get a combo if I'm in Denver. Great food, real taste of Chicago.

Andrew G.

Yelp
Great authentic Chicago place with a bit of sass. If you don't like the sass, you are in the wrong place. Legit beef, tasty sausage, and flowing cheese fries. Green rivers to boot. For all the one star reviews, you all are missing the point.

Ben W.

Yelp
Meh... the nostalgia and such is there for sure. And the dogs are good I suppose. But I went in for lunch today for the first time in awhile, my total was $16 (!) for a Chicago Dog and some soggy fries... not at all worth it at those prices... too bad, used to be a much better value! Service is still rude which is ok if the food rocks, but... won't be surprised if this place doesn't hang on much longer...

Michael W.

Yelp
I don't know how much better it could get. Perfect hot dog bun and perfect bun for the Italian sausage sandwich. This place is a gem. Cool Chicago memorabilia.

Joseph T.

Yelp
stamp of approval earned from this Chicagoan. this place is the real deal! got the Italian beef hot and dipped and a dog with everything. lady behind counter had tons of sass food was great, Chicago memorabilia was on point

Katie W.

Yelp
The neighborhood is rough and the service is grumpy, but I think they acknowledge that, it's expected. The food is quality and made to order with care. It's not fast food, but it's worth the wait. At Denver prices now, you're getting good value for your money.

Robert M.

Yelp
I didn't expect much so I wasn't disappointed but it wasn't great. Got an Italian beef sandwich and it was super salty and weirdly spicy (I like hot food). Fries were bland and staff is mean

Rob W.

Yelp
To all the libtard whiner complainers about the food and the people that work there- stay the hell away. You don't belong in a place where the food is authentic, the people are honest, hardworking, genuine and just as soon not have to put up with idiots like you. You think your crappy reviews are going to change things at this place? It won't, it hasn't thank God and should not. This is damn good , well done italian beef and dogs, and if you dont like it go elsewhere. If you need someone to blow kisses at you when they take an order for a sandwich or dog, you are a self centered sissy and need to go home and learn to wipe properly- or for the sake of Colorado, go back to whereyou came from. This place has consistently put out good, reasonably priced food at this location and their previous location for decades. Its a great place to eat and enjoy some surroundings of another place and era and support a great American small business and family- and btw, the fries are damn good as well. I cant wait to get back in there for another great meal.

Eli R.

Yelp
Had the privilege of working with the Chicago family for a year. Tasty food, playful personality, and great chicago atmosphere. From behind the scenes i witnessed the level of care put into pleasing every customer. Most importantly, I was struck by the community fostered. From decade long relationships to regulars and new visitors, they were treated like family. If you ask for silverware you WILL get yelled at.

Joe L.

Yelp
The service was very slow. The older man in the kitchen was slow and hard of hearin Harder hearing and when I did go up and order something I asked him for a couple of things and there's no man I'm sorry about sorry and it's like Dick and then I just left the very Porsche I was very bad service and won't go back there againg

JaNiece C.

Yelp
I sweet gem! I absolutely love this family owned and operated restaurant and I'm so glad that they have been blessed to stay in business throughout the pandemic. We've been coming here for years but I've never given a review. The food is so good and such a rare find in Denver. The customer service is always fun and energetic. And the food is consistently delicious. On this visit as we sat outside dining, a couple from Chicago pulled up and asked us how we like the food. She said that she was from Chicago so she'd know if it was authentic Chicago grub. I seen her after she ate and I asked her how she liked it, she assured me that it was the truth!! We'll keep coming as long as they're open!!

Xavier A.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place! Come check out the best of both worlds special! Get your dog and Italian beef fries and a soda! The lady in the back was super cool and funny! Great customer service! Food was so good I didn't have time to take a picture ! Can't wait to come back! * 5 STARS *

Jacquelynne S.

Yelp
Love the environment if your a Chicago fan they have just about everything. Has a family feel to it and the owner has a great sense of humor. Great food Ital Beef san and fries

Vanessa B.

Yelp
I started coming here when they opened. Those that think there is rudeness don't understand that Chicago folk tell it like it is. This is a classic Chicago establishment. If you've never lived in Chicago, you won't get it. The food and atmosphere takes me back to when I lived there. The hotdogs and fries are wonderful. The pizza puff was my Chicago go-to and I love the cheese fries. Food is authentic. I enjoy the owners and their colorful Comments. Again, they are Chicagoans. The place is clean. Not sure what that's all about. And they have memorabilia. If you want high dining, this isn't your place. If you want authentic Chicago food, this is where to go.

Gianni D.

Yelp
This place is a classic. Been here many times always consistently delicious. Order the special. You deserve it. You had a long week.

Maribel P.

Yelp
I am a Chitown girl, so had to come and check out the food and see what all these complaints were about. I was disappointed... she was way too sweet, offered me a menu as soon as I walked in. Took my order with a smile, offered me ice water while I waited. Then she dared to share Bozo Chicago stories with me! Lol maybe wrong employee, but she's been there for 23 years, so idk--there was an older lady preparing the food in back. Some comments for the negative reviews: - the hotdog is supposed to be hard to bite into...it's the Vienna casing! That's what sets Vienna apart. Anyways the bun was fresh. Was delicious with all the trimmings. - for the kid on the bench complaint...such a Karen thing to complain about. It's obviously a memorabilia bench (forgot to mention that part of your story lol) Has a gold plaque and all. It's not for jumping like a kids park. So either teach the kid some inside play manners or learn to handle the rudeness coming from the owner of the bench. Lol - for the dirty place. Not true! You almost got me not to come here cuz of your stupid comment lol. It's clean. Sure they shouldn't have carpet! Yikes. But was clean and LOVED all the junk one commenter said that cluttered the place. Hello! It's walk down memory lane at its best! My fav part. Lmfao they have jewel bags! It's like a fricken museum! I got me some butter cookies! Go people and stop whining or you may be a snowflake, just not one from Chicago! Lol

The O.

Yelp
I love this place. I have going here for at least a decade. This family owned and operated business is simply a jewel. The hot dogs and Chicago style Italian beef can hold their ground if not better than many of the food establishments I've been to in Chicago. This is the real deal with authentic Chicago food to the green river so-da. There is lots of great Chicago scwag, sports memorabilia etc... the blues Brothers statues are my favorite.. I'm sure I've eaten there over a hundred times. The staff is always friendly to me, food is excellent and you know damn well supporting small family run businesses is the way to go! You will be glad you did! I always am anyway

Paul M.

Yelp
I have not had Italian beef sandwiches this good since leaving Chicago. Seriously, if you are looking for the real deal, check it out.

Natalie N.

Yelp
I have been in here a few times and the food just has been below expectations so I am compelled to review. The hot dogs were similar to the grocery store. The buns were old and dry. The service is SO rude. Every time, the service has been beyond the rude Chicago-type vibe, and more get out, we don't care about the customer's vibe because we didn't order fast enough. If you are into a dirty, cluttered ambiance, with subpar food, this place is for you.

Conner R.

Yelp
I love this place . Stop by when I'm the area for lunch breaks at work. The people who work are nice to me when I'm in . Will be back to eat whenever in area. I get the Chicago style dog . Very delicious.

J A.

Yelp
This place is epic. Go get the lunch special of a Chicago dog and 1/2 Italian beef. For the love of god don't put cheese on it.

Larry S.

Yelp
Best Chicago dogs and Italian beef outside of Chicago. I love this place! I highly recommend this family restaurant. Great Family.

Katelyn H.

Yelp
This place always does an amazing job with food. Go for the experience! Go to see all their cool memorabilia! Go for their great food!

Kim A.

Yelp
This place is...interesting. Lots of Chicago decor but old interior. The food is so-so. I got a Chicago dog and onion rings. The dog was a bit smaller than what I was expecting and tasted kinda basic. the onion rings were very crispy & tasty! One thing to point out is the customer service. No one greeted me when I got up to the counter. The guy didn't even ask "what can I get started for you" he just stared at me...very rude. If you are looking for a quick bite, sure come here. But don't expect a grand experience.

Joseph R.

Yelp
I think the food was just alright here. I go to Chicago every year, this doesn't taste like I get there, idk. I see other people saying the sandwhich bread is not that great. I personally thought the bread is the best thing here, hehe. The hotdog bun though, meh. The beef here, it's not very flavorful, imo. There is something missing. Didn't taste like I get in chicago every year. The chicago dog was just alright too. Too small, didn't taste fresh. Chili fries were awesome tasting, not enough chili though, small portion of fries. Pizza roll, just tastes alright. to be fair, maybe I am not a pizza roll guy. I will say though, their onion rings are fucking delicious, haha. I might go back, probably just for the onion rings, heh. As for the lady working there being rude, that other people.have brought up. I didn't think she was rude, she just had a strong personality. I personally didn't feel she was being rude/mean to me. I guess it's kinda aggressive/loud to some people. Who knows though, I could be wrong on this. The guy in back was loud too, but it seemed fine to me, haha.

Ross M.

Yelp
She's just got what some parts of the country call, a Personality. Cheer up buttercup!

Lance L.

Yelp
This review is long overdue. I have known Diane and the family for years. Not personal friends, but I'm from Chicago and have been coming here for 10+ years. Yes, Chicagoans, this is the real deal. When I say "naked and wet", that's what you get and they understand what that means. At about a $10 price tag for the Italian beef, you are getting a hell of a big sandwich! They pile the meat on. Probably close to a pound. If you can eat it all in one sitting then be prepared for a nap afterwards. I haven't tried everything on the menu, but why would I go to an Italian beef joint for a chicken sandwich? The sides, like fries and rings are excellent as well! Thick skin- If you don't have thick skin, then you don't get the being rude part. Diane can dish out the wise cracks, but she's a good sport and can take them in return. For anyone that equates wise cracks with bad service, then you need to check your specifics. The food comes out fast, hot and delicious! Thanks 'Chicago Style Beef and Dogs' for staying in our neck of the woods. I will continue my journey here for as long as they stay. P.S. the code for the free wifi is "No Ketchup". Get it? LOL!

David A.

Yelp
Chicago Style Beef and Dogs serves up classic flavors at a great price. My girlfriend and I bought a couple Chicago style dogs, fries, and onion rings, and they were delicious. The food was hot and ready in about 5 minutes, and it smelled great on the whole drive home. The Chicago style dogs had all my favorite elements: bright green relish, fresh pickle spear, zesty sport peppers, and a great Vienna dog. The restaurant is a burst of culture and warmth on a chilly day, and we'll definitely be back again.

Ikaika F.

Yelp
The kitschy decor and "smart" attitude from the staff do little mask the lack of quality of the food. I understand being proud of where you come from but it's not an excuse to be salty to your customers that are spending money in your establishment The Chicago dog looked good until I took a bite the bun was soaked with brine from the relish and other wet condiments. Dog was like warm at that point but I powered through the mushy texture since I was hungry. The Italian Beef wasn't much better. Again soggy bun and not in the good way. The meat smelt great but held no real flavor beside the sweet peppers and was tough more than tender. The side of fries was even subpar even by fast food joint standards. What could be an oasis of cultural enjoyment on the some what pedestrian west Colfax food scene is just another reminder why locals tell out of town people to go home.

Heather M.

Yelp
Just awful... Tuesday night.. never been . I live a few blocks away. Let's support local you say. Nope! Asked a question and the man working there was " you have a menu " . Come on how hard is it to answer a very simple question to a customer that has never been in the restaurant before? I support good spots that actually appreciate business. I travel to Chicago in a regular.... this is not their service level or style. Good luck . Don't waste your time.

Ryan S.

Yelp
Dang I so wanted to like this place! First off you are greeted by a rude lady that is pure attitude, ordered the Chicago dog and let me tell you do yourself a favor and get a hot dog at 7-11 3x the size of dog and way tastier at half the price. Would never ever return Edit ** 4 hours later my whole family was sick with stomach cramps and diarrhea and the only common denominator was this place stay clear

CookingDinnerNow W.

Yelp
Reviewing as I sit waiting for my order. Currently watching the rude old lady showing the guy who came in where the paper menus are hidden. I don't care how good the food is or isn't I'll never come back here the way they treat customers. I asked for a chichi dog no onion as I continue confusingly looking for a menu. The lash says menus are behind you. This place is so full of junk you can't even see the tiny paper menus hidden on a table. She acted as if she didn't want to serve me and I was an inconvenience. Took a couple seconds and my food was ready. Never ever again. Quit being such a bitch to the ones who support your business lady. Updating after eating said hotdog. The dog is damn near impossible to bite through. Like trying to tear about a kong dog toy. Def not worth the $5 and having to interact w the mean old lady. Next time I'll drive the extra 5 minutes and grab a delicious Chicago dog R Mile High Vienna. They've got great service and food. Totally worth it.

Doug H.

Yelp
Always wanted to try it. Was driving by and stopped in. Wish I could review the food but I could not get anybody to take my order. They just ignored me. Based on that will not try again

Jennette R.

Yelp
so excited to stop in and a little taste of home. The service was extremely rude. As, I sat there eating more soaking wet, tasteless, Italian beef, I did see him be kind to a gentleman that came in to pick up Fannie Mae candies. Perhaps because I was a woman. I couldn't even it the beef. So I used my fingers and picked it apart. When I was finished I ordered a pizza puff to go. The second interaction was a friendly one. I love all the novelty items. Almost like a museum of my childhood! I will be back just for a small taste of home but there are other Chicago Style restaurants in Denver.

Jenni M.

Yelp
Best Italian Beef sandwich in town! Authentic food and Chicago attitude to go with it! We love this place.

Kelli A.

Yelp
REVISED 12/23/18: not sure what happened here but it's not worth a visit. The Italian beef is super dry (more so)! And flavorless. I had sweet peppers and giardiniera. Ask for extra so you see them and taste them. The little they put on added nothing. The fries were not hot and need salt and are still frozen. Perhaps the worst part of this visit is the old woman cook who is screeeeeeching about football and why customers order certain items not to her liking. The girl taking orders is yelling back at her that customers are weird. It's super slow to get your order taken and to receive it. I waited 25 mins for a sandwich and fries. Less screech more cookin! Had a craving for an Italian Beef today during the snow storm and no time to fly to Chicago. So I drove all the way to Lakewood to try this place. I agree that it's not Al's but it's a good option if you can't get to Chicago. There is A LOT of meat but it is dry not wet. The bottom of the roll was wet but somehow the meat was not. Nxt time I will ask if the meat can me dipped or else add extra giardiniera. The fries were extra crispy like the other reviews. I like my fries extra crispy, however, they were dry, like frozen fries that were then fried. Did not have a fresh potato taste. I will be back for another Beef and looking forward to trying the Chicago dog. Best time to go....Sunday during a snow storm.

joe c.

Yelp
Kevin is rude and probably shouldn't be working the register. Does he think this is how we act in Chicago so he has to be this way. Try "please" or at least "thank you" after the transaction Kevin. Combo was just ok. The sausage was good and hot and spicy. The beef portion was not; it was shaved into tiny slivers and there was no taste or seasonings. Of course the beef seasoning is what makes the bread so good; the bread was a soggy piece of mush. Fries were good and hot; not remarkable as they were frozen, but they tasted like most small beef joints in Chicago. The inside is old and tired.

Norel P.

Yelp
If your into Chicago chotskies this is the place for you. Everything you never thought you miss like a picture of Harold Washington it's here. Chicago hotdogs not so much. The Chicago style hot dog was served Luke warm to cold. Little tiny hot dog food bun tomatoes cut wrong. French fries were good crisp and warmer than the dogs. Got the half Italian beef. The bun was a winner as was the hot dog bun by the way. Beef was good didn't understand the sliced carrots on the sandwich. I would go back for a whole Italian beef but give the dogs a pass. Flock of female servers behind the sneeze shield have little if any interest in service. Watch the two red headed bubbies behind the counter.

David M.

Yelp
I am from Illinois and a huge fan of Italian beefs with or without mozzarella cheese, dipped, with hot or sweet peppers. So I was told that I have to check this place out and over the weekend I finally did. I read some of the reviews after my visit and my biggest takeaway is that I don't come to Chicago inspired places to have the employees make me feel like I'm back home in Illinois. The food and decor should be able to do that for me. I actually didn't mind my interactions with the owners because it's clear they interact with customers the same way they do with friends. The guy cooking was nice, made some jokes while we waited in line. The lady was genuine, my two year old son was running around and she was friendly and playing with him, the owners are just authentic to who they are. Now for the food, we ordered Italian beefs with cheese and hot peppers. I would have liked for the Italian beef to have a bit more flavor. I think a good Italian beef should be able to stand alone and I don't know if on this day it would have. I always get a pizza puff to go, definitely just like the ones back home so that was great. I love having my beefs dipped, my girlfriend on the other hand isn't a fan of the soggy bread. I am a fan of the place, love being able to see all my favorite Chicago teams and memorabilia around. Most Chicago styled food place aren't cheap anywhere you go outside of Illinois, a bit pricey. Right now it's 3 1/2 stars for me, but I will be back again when in the area and craving an Italian beef. Until then, keep up being authentic, it's much appreciated.

Michael V.

Yelp
I said it 7 years ago and it's still true today, this is the place to go! The most authentic Chicago style food in town. I came back to the area for a visit and I ensured I came back to this restaurant and it was as good as I remembered. I even made multiple stops during my trip. Don't believe any negative reviews on this place. Go!

Shawn H.

Yelp
This is another place I've gone to for years. The Italian beefs are delicious and the fries are always good. The hot dogs are good but I almost always order a beef. Served with a cold drink and I couldn't be happier.

Jason H.

Yelp
Walked out today before even ordering, I dare anyone to walk in the door and not feel insulted and belittled. Never been to a resturant that did not want customers before. They go out of their way with signs alone to make you feel unwlecome.

Violet G.

Yelp
For Chicagoans, there isn't much tastier than an authentic Chicago hot dog or Italian beef sandwich. For those of us who have moved away, it's a treat to find these delicious reminders of home elsewhere. Anyone lucky enough to live in Denver can have the real thing! Chicago Style Beef and Dogs is authentic. The family lived in Chicago and they know what they're cooking here. If you are unfamiliar with what a "Chicago dog" is, let me describe it: Vienna beef hot dog on a poppyseed bun, loaded with tomatoes, sports peppers, onions, pickle, a neon green relish (which I personally skip), mustard, and topped with celery salt. This place does it perfectly. And Italian beef on a special Italian roll, order wet or dry, with peppers or giardiniera (or both). The spices in the beef is what makes it special. Again, this place gets it right! They have lots of other Chicago specialties: Fannie May chocolates, Jay's potato chips, Salerno butter cookies, these funny little tamales that I've only had in Chicago. And I've saved the best for the last - homemade Kolachky!!! A Polish pastry, kind of a cross between a cookie and a danish. The dough is what makes it unique. And this place has a baker - Denise - who makes them (thank you, Denise!). My favorite flavor is apricot, but they also come with either lemon, poppyseed, cherry, strawberry, plum, pineapple, or cheese. I want to send a big Thank You to the owner, Diane, who has carried on the legacy started by her Dad. I can't recommend this place highly enough. Call ahead to make sure they have Kolachky, so you are not disappointed. They sell out.

T K.

Yelp
Being a born and raised Chicagoan now living in Denver, I can tell you the food here is 100% the real Chicago deal! Tastes exactly like the hot dogs I remember as a kid. I can for sure see what folks are saying here about the customer service warmth, but here's my suggestion: Go in, overlook that and think of them as weary life long crabby Chicago workers (they actually were born there!) and get your Chicago fix! Hint: Cheese fries ;)

Rochelle M.

Yelp
The people are rude and inconsiderate. I saw them yell and berate a customer with cash in hand because he wanted mustard on his dog. The fries were horrible. It also took forever to get our food. Plus side the dogs and beef are okay. I'd say about as good as Sonic, which I would expect more from a restaurant catering to that exact food. Oh well, I'll travel a little further to that place off Santa Fe

Ken H.

Yelp
I love this place so much! Diane is a familiar reality check so get your order straight before going in there. She'll be nice to ya once she gets to know ya. :) Italian beef sweet and hot. Chicago dog dragged through the garden. Yumm!

Rodney F.

Yelp
I only went back once after two years to confirm the complaints of multiple friends and neighbors who were complaining about your absolute lack of business sense. Your restaurant is a sad reflection of the even further decline of west Colfax as a whole over the past few years. Enjoy your new clientele!
