A Guide to Chicago-Style Pizza

"Martin Flores immigrated to America from Mexico when he was 16 years old with the dream of opening a restaurant. He founded Chicago’s Pizza, what he calls the “American dream pizzeria,” in 1991 and has expanded to three locations throughout Chicago, which are run by Martin’s children and nephew. The popular neighborhood shop is best known for its stuffed pizza because of its buttery, flaky crust and its dedication to scratch-made ingredients such as its marinara and proprietary-blend sausages. There's even a gluten-free option." - Tori Allen

I went to Chicago on a road trip and came across this gem. Gave me and my party not just amazing service, but above and beyond service. They offer a bunch of gluten free options too, even asking before ordering to ensure its not a dietary or allergen concern for anyone in the group. Not necessary for our group, but a notable mention that stood out for those who might want that info. We were exhausted from a long day's exploration of the city and came in late at night to eat with someone in my party's craving for deep dish. Food was delicious and made fresh to order, the front of house team member was very attentive and gave us the best experience. Food was delicious, portions were more than (plenty for leftovers) and the presentation was beautifully done. We ended up stopping by again before we left the next day, with the same superb dine in meal from the team that morning. From our visits we got loaded fries, regular fries, buffalo wings, deep dish pizza (twice), fettuccine alfredo (twice), cheesy garlic bread and one of their gourmet toasted foccacia sandwiches. I can't speak highly enough of every bit of food we recieved. They deliver such quality ingredients and it shows. If you're in Chicago, this place is a must. I will definitely come back next trip.

I got the garlic lover pizza, IT was amazing! The ingredients were very fresh and the pizza was super hot and fresh! Lots of mozzarella on the pizza! Highly recommend! Our sever was Jocelyn she was very patient and very nice!

I typically stick to my favorite local pizza spot, but I couldn't resist giving Chicago's Pizza a try while driving by. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and was immediately impressed! Although the exterior gives the impression of a small space, I was pleasantly surprised to find the interior quite spacious and inviting. The staff, especially the friendly young woman with colorful hair at the counter, made my experience enjoyable and seamless. I also want to commend the chefs for their outstanding work. I'm puzzled by some of the negative. They certainly haven’t deterred me! I look forward to returning soon to sample their wings. Highly recommend this place!

The service was exceptional. Friendly and attentive staff. The food was fantastic. The California salad was one of the best salads I've had in years. The deep dish pizza was incredible too. Great flavor, perfect amount of sauce. Really tasty cheese!

If I could give a negative stat review!…..I’m an online regular for like forever. NEVER had any order issues till today and was on hold 5 times for a total of 15 min. What’s the issue? Simple, ordered cheese fries got regular fries. Call, not to complain but to ask the them to adjust the price and refund me the difference. Girl on the phone was as bright as a nail, could not understand what I needed, had to repeat to her 4 times. Finally she says we will refund the entire order of the fries, I said I am not asking for a freebie just asking to pay what I got. She insisted, I agreed but asked her to provide some sort of evidence in writing. She said we can’t do that, but if you don’t get your refund in 3-5 days call back. I told her, I don’t want to call back, ever! This call has taken 15 minutes, for a very simple request, and you want me to come back with no evidence days later if you forget to process it? This whole interaction ruined my whole meal and has made me realize that loyalty to an establishment sucks when you actually need the establishment to treat you like a person. Bad bad…experience! Doubt I’ll get my refund… doubt if I’ll ever order again. Find a new place ya’ll… this is not it.

Google
First time ordering delivery for a Gluten Free pizza. The pizza was delicious and came in Gluten Free box as expected. Based on reviews pizza did not affect Celiac individuals. Based on reviews items are kept separate to avoid cross contamination. I hope it stays true to this so we can keep ordering it for our family. Thank you!

Google
Good pizza. Could be better. It was not even hot. Raise the temperature on the warmer.

Yelp
I cannot confess how many pizzas we've ordered due to convenience, extreme work, school, sport, church, just because days. The pizza is affordable and tastes good. The wings have been overcooked maybe 2x and the giardiniera sauce is almost always dry no oil. But we are thankful to have them a call away. Great coupons too!

Yelp
Long time customer, first disappointment. Picked up a couple of slices, a salad, and a couple of appetizers on Saturday night. Apps were fine, we didn't order anything fancy. Pizza was way undercooked. Like the crust wasn't crisp, even on the edges it wasn't browned at all, and kind of gummy, as in underbaked. The cheese was plentiful, sauce great, but it's the crust that'll make or break you. The salad should come with two dressing cups. But what really ruined it for me was the tomatoes. Soggy, mushy, rotten. Look at the photo, you'll see. And I'm not calling the restaurant because if you can't get cherry tomatoes right, you don't deserve the courtesy of a call before the review. I'm so disappointed. By the way, I know the place was busy, but busy should never be a problem or an excuse. Busy is your goal.

Yelp
Food was good. Service is 50/50 not @ 100 as I was hoping for. Finding parking was horrible but the restaurant is cozy and on the smaller side

Yelp
My wife read about Chicago's Pizza on her Gluten Free message board so we decided to give them a try since there are not many pizza places that offer Gluten Free Deep Dish. They have 3 locations in the Chicagoland area. We went to their Old Irving location. Plenty of street parking available. We seated ourselves are were greeted by a friendly server Jocelyn. We told her my wife is Gluten Free and she brought us menus and asked us what we wanted to drink. They mainly only have soft drinks as this is a BYOB establishment. She came back with complimentary Foccaia breads and oil and cheese. A really nice touch. My wife loved the Gluten Free one and mine was warm and very tasty. There is about a 40 minute wait on the pizza so we ordered their 7 piece Jumbo wings. Garlic Parm sauce...very meaty, grilled and juicy. And Gluten Free! Our pizza was a medium Deep Dish Sausage Mushroom. Good flavor with just the right amount of sausage and mushrooms. Sauce was slightly sweet. They use a corn based crust but don't expect it to be flaky as gluten free dough is never that way. They have a huge menu of salads, sandwiches and Italian dishes with many many Gluten Free items. Next time in Chicago,we will definitely be back!

Yelp
Our server was incredibly friendly and efficient. The dine in area is small but inviting with flowers in the window boxes. We were given complimentary bread.to munch on while waiting for our food. Mine was gluten free and my husband got focaccia bread both delicious. We split a small order of grilled garlic Parmesan chicken wings which were brought out steaming hot and so tender. Next we split a medium deep dish sausage and mushroom on gluten free crust since that is why we came in. I really enjoyed it. There are so many other things to try on their menu that we will be back when in the city.

Yelp
Delicious & excellent pizza at a good price. Easy to order online and ready in 20 minutes. They do fun specials for sport events and u can get thin crust or deep dish slices. Staff always friendly with a smile

Yelp
It was fast and tasty. Not the most delicious pizza but it was a nice quick bite. The paintings and miniature Chicago skyline was so cool.
google avatar

Sotto V.

Yelp
5 star quick service though order was put in at 430 on a Monday so early enough to avoid delays. Was ready right away. Friendly person at counter. Take out. Thin crust vegetable and was good. Sauce was ok but wish could've had slightly more or maybe more sweetness to sauce. I poured hit sauce over it. Proportions were good. Price was good. Tasted good and will be a consideration next time I order pizza.

Yelp
Chicago's deep-dish pizza. Beautiful portions with lots of cheese. The dissatisfaction lies in that it lacked a "signature" flavor. It tasted like an ordinary, decent pizza. Overpriced for me

Amy H.

Yelp
So many many things. The decline in food quality and service over the last 18months used to love CTA not sure what changed but this is the last time I have this restaurant let me down.

Yelp
Every time I come in to Chicago from Hawaii to spend time with my daughter it is a must to order from Chicago's Pizza delivery and have a wonderful time at home. The food always gets delivered nice and hot and perfect. Love their calamari, jumbo wings, cheese sticks, and Tuscan Panini sandwich This place does not disappoint. I suggest ordering directly from them if you want yummy fresh food all the time.

Yelp
Way too much cheese and the dough is bland. As a native Chicagoan and pizza lover, I can tell you this is NOT Chicago style pizza. I ordered their Chicago Special Thin Crust Pizza. Delivery was fast and courteous, which I always appreciate. But the pizza is terrible! I could barely see the other ingredients hidden under the massive glob of cheese, enough to stop up a race horse. The dough is undercooked and bland. I ate a few slices because I was hungry, but to call it disappointing would be an understatement. I'm offended that they attach Chicago's name to this pizza. I will never order from Chicago's Pizza again.

Yelp
Mediocre. Overpriced. Service is sub-par (by far ). I've been to this place for lunch 3 times. 1st time was a burger... not bad, not that good but over $20 with salt less fries and a drink. 2nd time was a turkey wrap. Again not bad, but not great. Pizza slice today and I think we are done here. Deep dish sausage... except they gave me pepperoni. Not a criminal offense, except is was 25 minutes after I ordered a slice because it wasn't ready. The pizza actually came out after about 10 minutes, but the open mouth chewing guy behind the counter forgot about me. It's not a big restaurant, but apparently my pizza order was a bridge too far for his limited abilities. Not the worst pizza I've ever had - but Lou Malnati's is 3 blocks East. And their service couldn't get any worse.

Yelp
Nice service, atmosphere and great Chicago style pizza. Highly recommended. Limited parking.

Yelp
So... this place came recommended by a friend and a gluten free Facebook community. When you enter they ask if you have a gluten allergy before you can even place an order! They brought us the focaccia while we waited on our pizza. The pizza was steaming hot and tasty! You could taste the butter in the crust. Soo good. My only "negative" is 100% a personal opinion, that it's weird to me to have chunky tomatoes in pizza sauce. It was pleasant to eat just not my preference. The restaurant was open for dine in which was great because we were killing time before checkin to our hotel. Waitress was ending shift but took care of our needs. Definitely a must check out!

Yelp
My only reason for one star is because it's no zero option.I had bad experience and I ordered a Supreme Dish Pizza on the menu said pepperoni on it I soon opened there's no pepperoni was very salty, the crust was born, second part the delivery person come to my place with a very bad attitude I thought he was going to hit me. I don't recommend, I never order from them again.

Yelp
We live within walking distance so this is our go to pizza place. Thin crust - The thin crust tastes very similar to Giordano's pizza (in our opinion) which has a hearty (but slightly buttery crust) even when you reheat it (microwave for 45 seconds, then finish on medium heat in a pan to get a crispy bottom - trust me). Deep dish - The deep dish pizza is really good, lots of cheese and sauce. I LOVE a lot of sauce and my husband loves cheese so it's a win win. Sandwiches - We have tried other things like the Cuban sandwich which was just okay. The meat was really salty and the bread basically fell apart so I ate the sandwich with a fork. The grilled chicken sandwich was good but sandwiches seem a little pricey at least to me (about $10) with no side. You can "make it a combo" for $2.50 more which can be fries, side salad or soup. I think as a dinner, the price may be okay as is but for lunch I would prefer a smaller portion with a small side for $10. Buffalo chicken wrap was a big portion, also about $10. Soup/salad - The minestrone soup and house salad combo is a great option for lunch! It also comes with bread too. A great combo for under $8. Pasta - tried the lasagna and like the Cuban sandwich, it was pretty salty. Good size portion though and comes with side (soup or salad) and bread. I was only able to eat half the portion of lasagna. Overall I would definitely recommend for pizza, salad and soup. I'm not sure if I would try anything else since the pizza is great and the couple other things I have tried were just okay. The pasta dinners sound pretty good and maybe if I wanted a burger, I would try one. For now, we're sticking to what we know is really good here and that's the pizza! Tip - there are special coupons if you order online. We have gotten the "buy XL pizza and get Large free" so many times! This caused us to order at least once a week for like 2-3 months. I was getting fat so we had to scale back but I think with winter months coming up, I'll be okay with the extra insulation.

Yelp
long time customer. Never have I ever received food that was so overcooked it is not chewable. This was a simple shrimp basket destroyed by someone's lack of care. It is not edible. I have torn my gums trying to bite through the shrimp and fries. I am only trying because I am hungry. Totally dried out! Total FAIL.

Brian B.

Yelp
Excellent gluten free pizza! They use their own GF dough. A lot of other GF options which is great. Love to support a pizza place with great GF food!

Yelp
LIMITED TIME ONLY!! Get the Birrea (spelling) pizza. Unbelievable. My daughter surprised me and sent a large Birrea pizza today and it was excellent. Never had anything like it before. Nice little kick and the crust was unreal.

Yelp
This is one of our go-to's when we want local pizza for our weekly pizza night. We usually get the thin crust sausage or pepperoni and it's always been a good pie. It's a slightly thicker crust than other neighborhood places tavern style, but we enjoy it. Crispy and fresh toppings, always a hit. What we also like abou their thin crust is that they have different seasonal shapes. We got a ghost-shaped pizza for Halloween and a Christmas tree-shaped pizza for Halloween. They also do heart-shaped for Valentines, but didn't get that one. Sometimes when I feel like a diet splurge, their stuffed pizza hits the spot. It's thick with fresh ingredients and it's well-seasoned. I like the sauce on their pizzas but I like my pizza with a bit more sauce so I always ask for extra on the side. We have always ordered delivery straight from the restaurant and our meals have always come intact and hot. I've also ordered salads and those were ok too.
google avatar

Judyth M.

Yelp
Their stuffed pizza and also their thick crust Gluten Free pizzas are top notch! The Gluten Free is the best GF pizza I have ever had! My family really enjoys the stuffed regular pizza. Chicago's Pizza keeps the entire family happy!
google avatar

Joee L.

Yelp
Chicago's is my favorite spot for gluten free pizza. They even do deep dish gluten free and sandwiches gluten free. And the death by chocolate cake is so freakin good! I've dined in and ordered delivery and have always been 100% satisfied.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
The food wasn't terrible but we waits like an hour to get our pizza when the place was completely empty. Won't go back for sure.
google avatar

Rita M.

Yelp
Again. My solid go to I ORDERED THE ITALIAN GRILLED CHZ PANINI. OMG. My new item I love added to my long list of amazing things I love from their menu
google avatar

Yelp
My Yelpers did not disappoint when I sought out a gluten free deep dish pizza restaurant in Chicago! Being gluten-free, I have not been able to find deep dish anywhere until now (and of course - it's in Chicago)! The atmosphere, service and food were impeccable.
google avatar

Ted C.

Yelp
I made a hurried search for pizza after a night out and Chicago's pizza was relatively close and open, and would remain so in the time it took me to detour there. Fortunately, they didn't close early and I got a slice of their stuffed sausage and their stuffed spinach. I got it to go but the staff there was friendly and quick. They offered to warm the slices up from the case and then I took it to go. When I get back home the slices were still warm and hit the spot. Good for a late night craving, after a night out.
google avatar

Hannah P.

Yelp
We have a lot of pizza choices in Chicago and this joint is high up on my top list of great pizza! However, I would stay away from the salads (hence the 4 stars) as I got ice berg salad and it was yello and old and called to pick up a second on and it was pretty much the same. Great pizza hands down, deep dish and thin crust and even gluten free pizza! It's great that it's so close to our place and fast pick up! I highly recommend the pizzas and wings here!
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
This is their pizza. If this looks good to you go for it! The salad also had no dressing and I was questioned on if it "really wasn't there."
google avatar

Kayla H.

Yelp
I ordered 4 x-large pizzas that are 16" with 36 bbq jumbo wings. I called hours ahead of time for pick up. If the price is a certain amount you have to pay with card over the phone beforehand. The order was ready promptly at the time I said I would pick up. The pizza is delicious.
google avatar

Kat N.

Yelp
What tf do you call this! old dry hard ass pizza slice! Very disappointed guys didn't even bother to heat it up for me. I called ahead and placed the order. Bad food bad service! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS PERIOD

Yelp
I was at home the entire day working on organizing my closet. Although I was hungry, I did not have a stopping point. "Chicago's Pizza" was one of many places that showed up on Yelp with the key words "pizza delivery." Instead having the food delivered to our residence, I placed an order for pickup to save the delivery fee. "Chicago's Pizza" has a large menu. Other than thin-crusted, stuffed, and gourmet pizza, they have appetizers, sandwiches, salads, soups, pasta, and even dessert. I kept things simple by getting two (2) small, 10-inch supreme thin-crusted and pesto lover, along with the veggie combo (breaded mushrooms, zucchini, and broccoli). Our order was ready in approximately fifteen (15) minutes. Hubby left the house and headed over to the location a few minutes after the order was sent and confirmed. He was able to pick it up immediately after he got there. The veggie combo was pretty decent, and the supreme thin-crusted met the expectation. However, the "pesto lover" gourmet pizza was unique and tasty, featuring pesto sauce "embedded" between the dough and large pieces of shrimp laying on top. The total was $43 and some change, with a plenty of leftovers for either breakfast the next day or dinner after work. The "gourmet pizza" category might be their forte, and a menu and some coupons and meal deals that can be used when ordering on their website were thrown in the bag. I guess these gave us the incentive to patronize "Chicago's Pizza" again.

Haley W.

Yelp
Staying home and eating a frozen pizza would've been more satisfying. Only giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because it's a very clean place and the staff was nice. I would definitely not go back. Response to comment: We did ask for a replacement/discount since we barely made a dent in the pizza and the waiter told us no because we were the "first people to ever complain." I'm shocked that the dough wasn't frozen. My negative comment is my truth which is the entire point of Yelp.
google avatar

Joe V.

Yelp
The name says it all with this spot! CHICAGO PIZZA! One of the best places to grab some thin crust pizza from in all of Chicago! They never disappoint and have awesome deals and coupons to make sure you're getting what you pay for here! Definitely recommend this place! I will continue to come back!

Raymond L.

Yelp
Great pizza! Great customer service! Landed at O'Hare and wanted some Chicago style pizza and stopped in on the way to our hotel. Was greeted by a very friendly waitress/cashier who treated us well and had several recommendations. Really glad we stopped in. Would highly recommend this place. Yummy!

Jovanni G.

Yelp
The food here always hits the spot...and the service is great! I definitely and without a doubt would recommend this place to family and friends!
google avatar

Erica N.

Yelp
Wonderful! The marinara sauce is extremely flavorful, the cheese was delicious, and the crust was perfectly cooked on the inside and out. Veggies were cooked but had perfect bite to them. I could definitely tell the ingredients were fresh since pizza usually makes my tummy rumble/hurt afterwords... their pizza gave me 0 issues. Will be returning!!! SO GOOD
google avatar

D R.

Yelp
One of the best pizzeria's in Chicago hands down... A must try, if you haven't already.
google avatar

Kirsten A.

Yelp
Gluten free deep dish pizza! (And GF stuffed pizza and calzones, etc) they make their own dough. Delicious.
google avatar

Nadia D.

Yelp
Was a regular customer - NOT ANYMORE! Placed an order for delivery over the phone and provided my card info (dumb). After the person in the other end confirmed that all is good and I should expect my order within 40-60mins I hang up and was waiting for the food in assurance it will come, but... After 1,5 hours of waiting I got tired and gave the restaurant a call just to check in, what I figured out is that the order was never placed! Some guy tried to explain to me that the system was down and they are not processing orders. When I asked him if this issue happened just recently it did they know about it 2 hours ago he said it's been going for a while (da hell?!). No "apologies for not letting you know" no nothing! The person over the phone was making lame reasons as of why they didn't tell me the system is not working, almost like it was my fault!!! Never ever again eating or ordering from them!!!!!!!

Alex R.

Yelp
Out of the 15 years Of ordering here I've never be treated which such dismissal and rudeness at 7:43pm 9/20/22 Cuban or Mexican guy working who is definitely new could not get simple request done and had hung up on me when I try to cancel the pizza because he would not get my 1 request right and the second time was almost immediate. Sucks man I loved the food here it's good but I'm done from ordering from here now.
google avatar

Caroline W.

Yelp
I really am a fan of this place and their pizza however this recent 'togo' order was worth Yelping about. I ordered a baked pepperoni calzone. There were about 6 pepperoni inside, some cheese and a whole lot of air. For $15+ includ. a side of sauce which I was so glad I ordered...this calzone was not worth it. Stick with the pizza.

David D.

Yelp
To start off.....the combo, beef and sausage, don't get it. No flavor at all for the beef and the sausage was nothing to write home about. Funny thing is the bread was solid. It could of held a damn back. I know, I know Chicago Pizza. Just got a slice of sausage......delicious. The pizza has always been solid and should of just gotten a pie, next time. The gals working the counter were awesome. They are on top of their game. Can't complain one bit. As for the joint itself...... I always liked their style! Wasn't to loud and good service overall. Trust me get the slice!!!!!
google avatar

Theresa M.

Yelp
Yuck! Gave this place another try because I was craving their veggie stuffed pizza. Somewhere along the way, they changed their sauce and crust apparently. When I received today was a soupy mess. The crust was extremely soggy. I was eating cardboard with most of my bites because it had literally seeped so far I to the cardboard that the outside of the box was even wet. Had to use a fork and just dig in the middle. Couldn't even serve an actual slice on to a plate. Horrible newer wet chunky sauce and different crust. They changed their pizza and it isn't for the better. Also ordered a thin crust. Cheese is flavorless to say the least. Crust burnt and over cooked. And the whole thing started off bad, so we were just not happy over all. Asked for a 6pm delivery for a reason and the guy shows up at 5:35. Messed up our plans, but whatever. Over all, I definitely won't be back. Sad, because I used to like their pizza back in the day. I decided to give them another try and it pretty much solidified the fact that they have completely lost my business. How they can serve that pizza is beyond me.
google avatar

Lauren S.

Yelp
Great service! Good pizza, and good variety of food on menu. Definitely more than just pizza!

Dalia G.

Yelp
I have never encountered such a gluten friendly place. I really enjoyed the pizza and the people. I can't wait to try it again!
google avatar

Jenna H.

Yelp
We ordered a large thin crust with pepperoni and mushrooms and a 7 piece jumbo Buffalo wings. Delivery was on time. Overall the pizza was just ok. The crust reminded us of a thick layer of saltines, but the sauce and toppings were fine. Nothing to write home about. The wings were delicious. We've been searching for a good alternative to Fathers and Sons, unfortunately this place isn't that.
google avatar

Mikey D.

Yelp
Ordered a cheese pizza with onions and peppers and for some stupid reason they threw a bunch these ends inside the pizza I guess these were the peppers I ordered? Anyway pizza was real dry wish they would actually put some effort in
google avatar

Leah H.

Yelp
The pizza was amazing. Literal food coma even before I left the table. All I could think about while enjoying all the foods was flight 6969 and how maybe they too could enjoy the pizza one day. Only downside was the wine was a little sour. All in all solid place, they let us sit outside so I could watch for airplanes. Def would go back. Service exceptional.
