Chica's Chicken

Super juicy and fresh chicken. They told me it'd be a short wait, but it came out super quickly. The spice itself was really refreshing (Medium-hot) and altogether one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had in quite some time.

The chicken here will contest any other in the city for the best in town. The fries were good. I wasn’t a huge fan of the sour cream and preferred the basic. The spice level is serious. I’m a general spicy food fan and the medium spice was plenty spicy enough. They forgot to offer the brioche bun which is fine but it would have been ideal to have it on a bun than toast. The location is very beat up and old school not necessarily in a good way.

Hit Chicken sandwiches are quite good here. Seasoned well, not overly battered, and the choice of both bread and fillings really compliment the chicken well. Interior is pretty worn out, so not a great experience to dine in. Smell of the restaurant is also quite heavy, as I noticed my clothes really hung on to the smell of fried chicken for a few days after.

I don't know what they feed the chickens but the wings are the size of a babies arm. Dry spice wasn’t for me but I’m sure sauced would be amazing. I think if the bread for the sandwiches were buttered it would also take it up a notch. I kind of liked the old aesthetic of the restaurant but it was very cold in there.

(Visited for the first time on Wednesday, Nov 5/25 around 5:30PM for dine in) A chicken place receiving the Michelin Bib Gourmand award four years in a row - had to try the place out. Staff we got were fantastic. Super helpful answering our questions and giving recommendations. Great attitude. I don't know if that's the vibe or the lighting was dim, or there isn't much lighting in there but it looked sort of run down (again it was November, it's fall, it gets dark early - maybe that's the mood). What I can tell you is the food was not run down. Waited about tenish minutes as the food was made fresh. I got the OG chicken bites and cajun waffle fries. $12.50 plus $6 to make it a combo with a side and a drink - this was great value - $20.91 after tax. The portion was great. I had more chicken bites than waffle fries (think of popcorn chicken but crustier). I got mild/medium heat and you could really truly taste the dusting of spice on those chicken bites. I didn't just get like five or six pieces - I swear I got eight or nine pieces, it was fantastic. Wish I got a bit more waffle fries but the protein is where it's at. I see why this place has received the Bib Gourmand award every year and if it wasn't in the west end of the city I would be there way more often. Move over Dave's Hot Chicken (even though there are more convenient locations). Definitely recommend Chica's Chicken. Wonder if I can do some catering for a party....

We waited about 30 minutes for our chicken, which was understandable since it came out very hot and fresh. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was quite cold and dark, and it didn’t feel like the heating was on. The mild chicken bites lacked flavour, tasted slightly burnt, and were tough to chew. We were also disappointed that dark meat was used for the chicken bites. On a positive note, the waffle fries were delicious and perfectly salted, and the staff was very friendly.

Restaurant was half empty, still took 40 minutes to serve my 2 piece fried chicken meal. Justification for the long wait was that the “pieces are bigger”. They were normal sized. My advice: don’t accept ubereats orders if you can’t serve in store customers in a timely manner It’s just fried chicken, not rocket science. Also the tables were dirty as another reviewer stated.

$20-$28 per meal. Large pieces of chicken. Expert preparation and cooked, spiced just right. Chicken isn't cooked until after you place your order. No pieces sitting in a warmer. Wait time about 16-20 minutes.

Absolutely my favorite place for fried chicken. Chica does it so well and I can't get enough. Their buttermilk sauce is the best! Dip it with the waffle fries and it just blows your mind. Service was great and the food came out so hot and fresh. Ambiance could use a bit of work. It used to be an old donuts diner i believe. Although I really love the music they play here, very nostalgic for me. If you haven't been here, you are missing out!

We love Chica's since time. It's truly a hidden gem (that's not all that hidden) and has the best chicken sandwiches in town. We went for lunch, and there were people already waiting outside for the place to open. We got the lemon pepper chicken bites, which were very crispy and juicy, but a little on the salty side. The colslaw was kind of bland, which ended up saving the chicken bites as we ate that together. The waffle fries here are crack. Their cajun seasoning tastes exactly like the Lay's BBQ chips, I lowkey don't know why they haven't started selling the seasoning itself. The sandwiches were stacked. The chicken was thick and juicy, and there was a good balance of flavors with the colslaw. I just wish the toast was a little thicker, but that's just the carb lover in me talking. All of these items paired with the classic Chica's sauce make it taste even more amazing. Overall, good food over good music with good company; who can complain?

Michelin review. In case you didn't know this restaurant is on the Bib Gourmand list known for its good quality, good value cooking. Got Uber eats delivery. Food: Chicken still came hot even though it was far away. 3 hugeeeeee pieces of chicken, a slice of bread and pickles. Definitely maybe the best American style fried chicken in the city. Got mild, next time I'll try hot. Service: Didn't go in restaurant but they cook to order, so I liked that part of the service. Ambiance: Didn't go in the restaurant, so no comments there. I'd definitely recommend this if you're a fried chicken lover.

This Nashville hot chicken place looks like it took over another place with decades old decor which wasn't the best maintained & did minimal renovations, and the floor feels a bit smooth (from the tile or the oil? I wasn't going to find out). Which isn't really an issue per se, but it looks like the savings weren't passed down. Got the og (mild/medium) & cajun waffle fries. Surprisingly most people choose mild (not spicy at all) or mild/medium. Why would you have non spicy Nashville hot chicken? Given that hot is in the name? But let's skip the philosophy. The sandwich used possibly the thinnest Texas toast in the world; I think it was just normal sliced bread. It didn't seem buttered on either side too. The chicken, slaw & pickles were decent - nothing special. Fries were pretty good. They were fresh & the cajun seasoning was pretty tasty, though it was on the salty side. Portions here are below average.

This restaurant uses locally raised, free range, halal chicken, and is a great place to go if you like fried chicken with some spice as there are a few different flavour options to choose from. The non-spicy flavor is limited to the one Lemon Pepper option, or you can opt for no spice (i.e. Plain) for the other menu items. Food 4.5/5 - The fried chicken here (wings and bites) has just the right amount of batter, good texture, and is perfectly crispy. I also enjoyed their waffle fries and coleslaw. I rated the food 4.5 because I've had my chicken overcooked and slightly burnt before, and don't love the sandos. Service 3/5 - Like most fast food restaurants, you're expected to place your order at the counter and then wait for your food to be prepared. This place can be pretty busy in terms of the number of orders they get, which results in long wait times for your food. I've had to wait approximately 45 minutes for my order once. However, the food was fresh. I would recommend ordering your food in advance, and then picking it up at the restaurant to avoid the long wait. Atmosphere 2/5 - the interior looks like an old diner, with worn furniture, dim lighting, and inventory out in the open. There's a bit of seating if you want to eat there, but overall, I don't think the atmosphere is great for dining in.

Love the OG Sando from here. Lot's of crisp chicken, great slaw to balance the fat and heat. A perfect treat to take to Baird Park just south down Keele. Maybe grab a beer from Indie Ale House bottle shop before hand and have that with it. The waffle fries are also super-yum. We get a big box and I fry up the leftover fries for breakfast! It's worth wrestling wasps in the park to enjoy a Chica's picnic. One thing I do notice, while waiting for our sandos, is that the interior of Chica's on Dundas could use a little love. It's such a great corner building but inside seems to be a renovation interupted, or just waiting to happen. Everytime I'm in there I feel like volunteering to spruce the place up. My interpretation is the people running the shop are just too busy making delicious sandwiches to get around to fancy decorating. But as long as they keep up the great food service then maybe this esthetic is just fine.

I remember when Chica Chicken first open I went in maybe a few days after they officially opened their doors. When I first had it I remember ordering at the counter and the manager/owner I think was like you sure you want the very spicy one? And I was like yeah hit me with it. It was super spicy and I think that was the first time I ever purchased a side of multiple slice bread. After the first experience I became a fan of this place I just know my limit and not order something that I know I will regret later on. Recently I stopped by with some friends and I ordered their wings I notice they had lemon pepper and I asked the person on the counter if I can get the seasoning on the side instead. I just wanted to shake the seasoning on myself lol I got the lemon pepper and I think there hottest seasoning? With the food here, I believe honestly their chicken has the right amount of batter and it just consistent with how their chicken looks and served. Maybe I am very lucky or they really that good but I never had a chicken where I was like damn this is burnt or old it just always hit. I tried their jalapeño sandwich one if I had to choose either a sandwich or the chicken it really depends on the day but more or less im taking the chicken over it. I think the service here is pretty good the guy did give me the seasoning on the side for me to shake on my own and the staff in general were very welcoming engaged. I also don't show up when its busy I guess I just plan ahead to avoid the line up but been pretty good so far I haven't had to wait too long for food. I also been around the way and I remember before Chica open there growing up it was a Galaxy donut shop I believe. And so it kind of nostligic feeling anytime I go in I enjoyed the feeling and the look. One other thing I notice in there like if you never worked in food and bev I think it might be bothersome of be like weird out if you really look at drinks or inventory tucked into the corner it's a meh to me it's a it happens. Overall I enjoyed the food and watching from afar their success is really earn wish them the best. VALUE (4/5) SERVICE (4/5) OVERALL (4/5)

Delicious wings! Seems like the place to go if you're in the area - it's made to order so you know it's fresh and hot. If you don't want to wait, make sure to call it in ahead of time. Big pieces of chicken that satisfy your cravings and keep you full for a few hours! The meat is tender and moist despite the outer appearance. It comes with a creamy sauce and pickles. Enough spice to give you that kick but also let you enjoy the meal; highly recommend this place if you're looking for a fried chicken place with a chill neighbourhood vibe

We got it delivered and yep that's some very solid fried chicken folks! Breading is crispy and delicious. We did all tenders and tried plain, mild, mild/medium, and medium. Next time I'll try the lemon pepper. For our family of four we ordered too much - if we were four adults, maybe, but two adults two kids you only need two or three dishes. Medium is indeed hot, would be called hot at any wing place. Honestly the quality of the breading was so good my favourite was probably the plain! Also tried the sauces which were all great, especially if you like that sweet/spicy combo when it comes to food. My fav was the Buffalo. The only downside is that it is really greasy, but that's fried chicken, your insides are not going to thank you. We'll get again, my kids really liked it as did we.

When we are craving fried chicken, we order Chica's! Inspired by Nashville Hot Chicken, the restaurant is passionate about its chicken and shows its quality. We usually get the OG sando, crispy buffalo sando, and chicken bites. The sandwiches have excellent ingredients, and you can customize the heat level. The chicken is crisp and juicy and is halal and locally raised. My favourite side is the cajun waffle fries, which are a great weekend treat. We always order online for pick-up, and you can also schedule pick-ups.

Awesome fried chicken and Cajun waffle Fries when fresh! We really like their sandwiches on the brioche bun! Careful their spicy bites are quite spicy!! Make sure to dunk it in their ranch sauce hehe

Solid fried chicken. The first time I had it was when it first opened which I don't even know..2-3 years ago? Usually J can handle my spice pretty well so I decided to get the spiciest option. Big mistake. I talked to the owner and her tells me how he grinds his own spice mix with ghost chillis etc. I made the big mistake of crying and then rubbing my eyes. One of the most painful experiences ever. This time I learned my mistake and opted for medium spicy chicken sandwich. It comes with toasted texas toast, pickles, slaw. It's a good sandwich, it has a nice balance of sweet and sourness, nice freshness from the slaw, and crispy juicy chicken. Definitely a go-to comfort food.

This place is awesome! OG Sando on brioche bun - I have no idea why the original white bread is an option cuz brioche buns are always the way to go IMO. Medium heat was a good call because I think anymore might have made me a little uncomfortable lol. Cajun waffle fries very well seasoned - if you don't like as much salt / etc on your fries, you might want the regular ones. 2 piece chicken - if you've been to Gus' Fried Chicken, then you know how good that is. Chica's is about the same quality, somewhat different taste. This place is as good as it looks in the photos. Downsides: inside is very plain and it took like 20 min for the chicken pieces (we were given a heads up though and wanted to wait) as I guess it's made to order. Also, far from main downtown Toronto area. Overall, an excellent chicken establishment!

What i like... I like many of the items. The waffle fries, good sandwiches. If you like spicy, you'll like this place because they add a lot of spice to give heat to their sandwiches. Which is better than other places that claim to be spicy. I like a good spice rub / some heat to my food. What may some people might not like? I prefer the spices to be baked into the chicken rather than waiting to add the spices after its been fried. The amount of raw spice added to the sandwich seem unbalanced , thus the reason why people criticize the chicken as being tasteless when you up in scovels. Anyone can make a sandwich hot by putting a lot of spice / adding hot peppers. But it takes a masterful touch to make it HOT and tasty. I would still recommend you try out Chicas.

Amazing fried chicken sandwich. Got the OG on a medium and it was HOT. I can take spice and this was not a "medium" definitely go for mild for a good kick. Unless you want to take many breaks in between bites and drink lots of cold water. The coleslaw in the sandwich was delicious. Grab the waffle fries, made to perfection. There are 3 tables and when we went on a Monday night, it was pretty dead so no one was dining. Parking right outside on the street. Paid parking only.

What I liked the most about this place is the individuals who talked to me and treated me like a brother I had a wonderful conversation while I was waiting for my order we got the medium spicy Nashville kitchen with waffle fries with sauce, I told I came all the way from Markham and he was so excited that I came to try this food, he even threw in fries and bean salad complimentary extremely kind of him, the chicken was so tender and juicy, and the coleslaw and pickles complimented it so well. This place had so many orders waiting for pick up, the fries were amazing with the sauce especially my goodness, and the chicken had a good amount of heat, bread was nicely toasted and when you take a bite of the juicy kitchen it felt like heaven, I would come back here but it's so far, but worth the trip, they focus on one thing and that's what they do very well I respect that, the sky's the limit for this place just keep working hard

There's soooo many fried chicken sando joints in the city, but only a few really stand out. I've seen a few foodies post about this place and couldn't wait to try! I ordered the OG sandwich for pick up over the phone, upon arriving I realized we were able to substitute for a brioche bun instead of the Texas bread for an extra $1 (which wasn't mentioned over the phone) I was sad I couldn't get the brioche but now I know for next time! The chicken was juicy and full of flavour and the slaw was creamy and a great compliment in the sando. I wished the pickles were a bit sweeter though but it wasn't a deal breaker. The Cajun waffle fries (not pictured) were so big and crispy, there was a sprinkle of sugar on them which made it a bit savoury, spicy and sweet all in one bite! If I was in the area again, I would definitely come back and try the other ones such as the "Sweet heat" or "Buffalo".

Wowza, that's a big sando! Me and food friend finally tried this place and were delighted. The original sang ($11.50) is massive, I could only eat half at lunch. Crunchy, tasty chicken with a slight kick with Mild/Medium. The heat on the OG comes from a kind of powder (not a sauce) - peppery. We also ordered a large waffle fries to share ($7.50) - those came hot, and were chewy and crispy, 100% yum-tato. Had lots left. Eating half in the day means leftovers at night. The half sammer was terrific cold - and I was amazed to see that the bread stood up to the dressing, slaw and pickles after the interim hours. The wafflers zapped in the micro got a little moist, and were still delicious. The only surprise was ordering online and seeing it would be over 60 minutes for pickup. No biggie. We knocked out a few errands on the way like champs and rewarded ourselves with a sambidge in the sunshine.

Here's my update since they removed my comment on Instagram! Last 3 or 4 times we've been we've gotten the same thing we always do: OG Sandos and Sweet Heat Bites and we've been incredibly disappointed. I'm not sure if they are buying chicken from somewhere else now but it's been slimy and absolutely disgusting. We went back 3/4 times because we remember how they used to be and were hoping each time that we were just getting a "one-off" type thing. But no, it has consistently been inedible. It's too bad because we were OBSESSED with Chicas for yeaaaaars and we're regulars. We'd make the drive all the way from East Scarb because it WAS worth it. The flavours are all still there just the quality of chicken is nasty.

Ad more stars! 5* doesn't capture how perfect this was. Easy order online in advance, ready at precise time requested. Fresh, large portion and delicious. Sun shining and picnic with friends in the nearby park.

When I think about Chica's Chicken, I always smile. Part of it is because fried chicken in general makes me happy and the other part is because I think this place is a gem. Chica's is a Nashville style fried chicken joint but spoiler alert, I'm a puritan and like my fried chicken sauceless (sorry, not sorry). Because of this, I know I can't comment on their coating options (5 choices - mild to hot AF) but I can tell you that the skin has the perfect crispness, the seasoning is satisfying and pickles with your chicken is a necessary pairing I didn't know I needed. Add on to that some waffle fries and you've got yourself a great meal. Opened in 2018, Chica's is one of those places that has found their thing, does it well and genuinely seems happy while doing it. Each piece of chicken is brined and spiced using an in-house blend and all the meat is sourced from local farmers with humane practices (and 100% halal). The close vicinity to fried chicken is what led me to this place but the quality of their food and their friendly staff is why I continue to return.

This unassuming location really doesn't prepare you for the experience you're about to have. The guys behind the counter are super friendly and go out of their way to make sure your order will be exactly how you want it. The food itself is delicious! These guys definitely aren't hiding behind their spicy Nashville sauce, but combining that with a very flavourful sandwich. I had the OG Sandwich, which is super-lightly breaded and packs in a ton of flavour.

One of the easier 5 stars I've given and I don't like to give them out easily. Excellent quality chicken, really well executed. Take their spice level seriously. I have a super high tolerance and went for medium hot which was spicy. I would debate repeating that next time or dropping down to medium. So be conservative on your first trip to ensure an enjoyable experience. Waffle fries are a great touch. Not often I find that as a side. I suppose relatively recently opened chick fil a. Pre order. Do not walk in, likely you won't get served for a very long time. My Toronto fried chicken top of the list was (excluding Korean or Japanese fried chicken which is a whole other category that needs to be reviewed separately in my view): 1) pg clucks 2) Tokyo fried chicken 3 porcetta and co 4) love chix 5) etc. (All other spots with respect of course) Chicas just jumped to the top to #1 pushing the entire list down a spot. Try it out. They also do a great job marketing through social media and promote their brand which is really nice to see. Wishing them all the best to survive the covid impact till they resume in full force.

Came here a couple of times mainly to get food for family, have only ate here once. The experience has always been consistent. Food: I enjoyed all the sides, the coleslaw had the right creamy balance, the beans and corn was yummy. If the waffle fries had spices it would taste great but the plain is not bad as long as I have my ketchup. It also came with a white tangy sauce which was good too. The bread soaks up the residual oil from the chicken nicely. I did not get as much flavour out of the quarter chicken, it may be because I opted for the mild or my taste buds were not optimal at the time. The chicken (ordered dark meat) was moist and the skin super crispy. Will definitely order one spice level above mild next time. The pickles that accompanied the chicken was certainly welcomed. Got a sandwich for take-out and the crispy skin of the chicken did not go soggy during transport! We anticipated that the bread would be all soggy, this apparently did not happen to my surprise. Service & atmosphere: The staff are friendly and full of positive energy. Price: Decent, not many places offer Nashville hot chicken around here and the amount that comes with each order is generous.

Mar 24/21: This can only be fair review if I divide the allocation of the stars for the food itself, the location & the servers. Food 4.5*: I ordered the "Crispy Buffalo Sando Combo" as my lunch. The sandwich was spectacular! It was warm, moist, crispy & delicious. The buttermilk ranch was fabulous, when all mixed together, the Sammy was very dooverable! The fries & slaw were just average. My wife ordered the OG Bites, she said the chicken was all dark meat with not much taste. As for the location 1*. It needs LOTS of work. The bathroom we're out of order. The facility needed a severe deep cleaning. The servers were awesome 4*. The were polite & friendly albeit a touch slow with the food delivery. I'd go again but not as a destination as I did this time.

Found myself down in the junction visiting my boss for lunch. We puttered over the Chica's after a few glasses of wine and we're not disappointed. We both opted for the OG sandwich combo with a side of slaw, mine hot AF and his medium. Delicious. Chicken was tender, crispy, and though very spicy it was still flavourful and didn't overpower the other flavours in the sandwich. The crunchy pickles and creamy coleslaw really balanced everything and brought it all together. Nice touch they build the sandwich on toasted sliced bread. I was a little weary of that until I tried it.

Opens at 11:30am on a Saturday, came at 12:30pm and the place was already buzzing with hungry people. They were having issues with their credit card machine since opening but it didn't boggle them down as customers kept showing up regardless. My mouth was watering just staring at the few pieces of fried chicken resting on the hot counter, but opted to go with The Sweet Heat Sandwich (on a brioche bun) with a side of Coleslaw. Because they were quite busy, my order took about a 15-20 minute wait. The fried chicken was nice, hot and crispy. The jalapenos were plentiful and the sweet spicy sauce was drenching. It was quite a messy eat but worth every bite. You can't ever go wrong with a sweet and spicy combination. I noticed the taste of dill in the coleslaw with my first bite and then thought to myself, the coleslaw's not very flavourful. But it actually helped cut the heat from my pallet very nicely. Will be back next time to try their "Hot AF" sauce on my fried chicken.

Wow this fried chicken spot is one of the best ones I've tried in Toronto. I got the OG Sando and I can't wait to eat it again. Unfortunately we had to bring it home to eat so one slice of bread got a little soggy. If you can eat it right away I would recommend that. Other than that the chicken was breaded nicely and was super crispy! Slaw was creamy and crisp. Bread was the right ratio to chicken. I would definitely come back to this spot!

I don't know if they changed their formulation but ordered 2 hot AF sandwiches. They weren't hot, they felt mild. Maybe they messed up my order?? Confused because my experience wasn't like the other reviews. Oh btw they take an hour to make the food so order ahead or you'll be waiting a lonnng time. The waffle fries were legit so that's what got these guys a 2 star.

Great food. Customer service needs improvement. The restaurant messed up my order but there was no way of rectifying it: -I couldn't call because they don't answer the phone -I couldn't email because they have no email for customers -I couldn't get a reimbursement because their billing is also no reply The only answer is to travel back to the store, which would leave my originally ordered food cold. As a restaurant, you really need to put something in place for when these situations occur. At this point, all I can do is call Visa and tell them to refuse payment. Please create a way for people to talk to your business when you mess up an order. It's not fair that I'm stuck (in this economy) paying for something I didn't get.

I ordered a chicken sandwich, with a side of coleslaw. And medium waffle fries. I really loved the chicken sandwich here. And I would definitely come back again. The waffle fries were a little on the salty side for me. But I think next time I will just ask for no salt. I love creamy coleslaw. And I think the coleslaw had just the right amount of cream. The ranch sauce is a must! It was so delicious. I wish I had extra for my fries.

A friend and I came here for lunch. The server/cook was really nice and gave us the run down. We originally ordered a 1/4 chicken for two of us to share but he said it might not be enough so we ordered the 1/2 chicken. When it came to the spice level he said their "Spicy" was very spicy and used ghost peppers so we aired on the side of caution and went medium. We paid and had a seat and quite quickly we got our food. It was A LOT. More than the 2 of us could finish. The chicken was extremely tender and juicy. The skin was crispy and very delicious. However my friend and I both didn't find the Medium to be spicy at all. The waffle fries/chips are really nice, and the buttermilk ranch dip is an absolute MUST. I was full for most of the rest of the day. Quite heavy, and filling but very delicious with delightful service.

I do honestly want to give this a five because our server (cook) was so, so nice and friendly. The portions were ginormous, not that expensive and everything tasted so good. That sandwich was so crispy and delicious. But after inhaling everything, we felt really, really uncomfortably heavy the rest of the day. I guess, if the plan is to nap off the afternoon and evening, this would be a great lunch. There's nothing much to the spot; it's a bit quaint and hole in the wall. Honestly, really tasty, but just need to flush it down with green vegetables for the next day or so.

Let me just say that I found out about this place during the quarantine so it SUCKS that I can't order from them regularly because 1) quarantine. 2) I live in Brampton. Regardless, wow these chicken sandwiches are GOOD. At least the sweet heat one. Love the juiciness, and how sticky and sloppy it is - but not TOO much. Loved that pickled jalapenos. Waffle fries are SO GOOD. Was still crispy till the last bite of my meal. Also appreciate that they were able to be flexible since I wasn't able to get to Toronto till later than the expected time I had ordered it for. One feedback I do want to mention is that I wish there was more flexibility for names to the order instead of naming the name on the credit card. I'd order here again, during or after the quarantine :) P.S. I love that the chicken bites aren't white meat (personal opinion), but also even if it is, I couldn't even tell due to the great brining

Heard so much about this place so I was very excited to go! We got there half an hour till closing (which is horrible, I know I'm sorry) but safe to say the staff is still very welcoming. To start off, the chicken was very crispy and HUGE (so very much worth the price), I wouldn't say it was super spicy but you can pretty much handle it! With that said, we got the 3 piece chicken, coleslaw & the sandwich. As you can see the 3 pieces came with pickles, & the ranch sauce ... let me just say - probably one of the best ranch sauces yet!!! As for the sandwich, it was also huge and could be made for 2 people since I got it with fries! The waffle fries were also awesome and perfect salted!! As for the service, as mentioned great service! It is worth mentioning it did take a while for the food to come out - but you know what they say, you can't rush greatness! I love fried chicken... who doesn't? I love the crispy skin and the crunchiness, also pair it with coleslaw & pickles and goddam it's a perfect meal. There are 2 kinds of chicken I love - the real saucy kind & the dry kind. Chica's reminds me of a old school place in the middle of nowhere except it's on the west end of Toronto. It most definitely has not been renovated as it has a super super old school look. I saw huge portions on the table by the register and my mouth immediately started to water. I decided to order the chicken sandwich because it seemed easier but boy was I wrong. Before I get to the sandwich let me start off by saying the service was great. Now, the guy brought a red plastic container with a huge sandwich, I mean HUGE. I was a little surprised. The sandwich cost me $12 and I'm pretty sure I got my money's worth. I took a bite and wow, goddam. The skin was so crispy, the chicken itself was so damn juicy and the flavours were just exploding in my mouth. The chicken was topped with coleslaw & pickles and it helped cool down the heat from the chicken. I got a medium spice level but beware, the spice won't hit you till after you are done. My lips were tingling 20 minutes after I finished the sandwich. My only complaint was that they used toast and it gets pretty damn soggy. Keep Eating, Angela

Decided to try this restaurant after reading about how good the chicken is. I got the two piece; hot !! The chicken was cooked perfect and tasted amazing. The chicken was juicy and tender. The hot sauce they put on the chicken was also quite hot. I'm pretty tolerant of heat but this one made my mouth tingle and made me sweat ! Definitely would recommend this place, and for sure won't be my last time there. My only complaint would be we had to wait half an hour for our order. The flip side is I know it was cooked fresh.....

One of the best fried chicken joints in the city. I got the half chicken. The spices on the chicken were perfect, and they give you pickles, bread and a side. Expect to wait a bit for your order but it well worth the wait. $$

I'm averaging this out to 3.5 stars ... 4.5 or even 5 stars for the original crew. 3 stars for the new crew that is on Saturday afternoons when I did my 4th visit. It's a bit of a hard review as the consistency and quality of the chicken is definitely tied to the team behind the counter. There are 3 guys working at all times and the original (OG) crew is just great. Actually... all honesty, both teams are good on the service. It's just the chicken that is up and down. The diner is outside Toronto... it is junction but most DT Toronto would say 'Etobicoke' because it's so far west. I don't mind it as I'm west and i find the parking situation easier... traffic is still a mess but no fault of Chica. The diner itself is clean, a bit dark, ok, dated as heck... but it's just a side player in the scheme of things. As I mentioned, service here is excellent... if anything, I would say that both teams are really attentive, top notch in caring that you're getting what they think is the best chicken, and really efficient. The major difference from this spot to others is the wait... the OG team takes 20 minutes to bring it to your table BUT it's excelllent. The new team, they brought the sandwich to us in less than 5 minutes. Surprised but then we found out why it was 5 minutes. Read more below. Fried Chicken - This is a bit inconsistent ... I'll mention when it's at its best. This chicken honestly have great flavour ... I got the medium heat and it has a kick that would make your nose water in the best way possible. It's not a sour heat either but a great flavourful heat that makes you appreciate the amount of work it takes to get good flavour and not some piercing heat that numbs your taste bud. Also, we were fairly warned their hot is stupid hot... after hearing the amount of chilis in it... yea, i like to live thank you. Also, the crunch here is great. It's so crispy and hot from the fryer. Now the new team... they brought a luke warm and kinda limpy chicken to us in 5 minutes. I rather wait the extra 15 minutes to get it GOOD. 5/5 from the OG. 3/5 from the new team Waffle fries - honestly, I could eat this by itself without the chicken. I really like these a lot and both crews are giving this super fresh and crispy. They're so ridiculously addictive as they crunch and hint of spices from the chicken makes them delicious. 5/5 I hoping that Chica's know they have a great chicken... possibly one of the best in Toronto but they also learn, you got to keep it consistent. I hate to see people go here and not the get best first time. I've been here at least 4 times to know that this is legit good.

Seriously the best fried chicken I've ever had. Skin was shatteringly crisp, thin batter, nearly melting your mouth tender meat underneath with my chicken leg. I got it medium, which is pretty spicy. Chatting to the owner he tries to get Carolina reapers when he can for the spice. I could tell it pretty spicy, and I would say medium was enough for me - flavourful and hot but not burn your face off. Oh and the sides were delicious - the bean salad was elevated beyond your average bean salad with well-balanced flavours and acidity, and the coleslaw was creamy but light, without being overly mayonnais-y. Great homemade ranch dip on the side to cool off your chicken if you want. It was $14 for my chicken leg dinner but if you want something fried chicken that is eons above KFC, this is well worth it. Will be back for the delicious chicken and extremely friendly service!

I've heard lots about this place but never venture out to that area so by chance I was in the area I knew I had to check this place out! And boy was I not disappointed. Ordered the 1/2 chicken with waffle fries between two. We were really lucky that when we arrived there was chicken that was made fresh so we didn't have to wait. After we arrived there was a group of 6 that arrived and they had to wait a long time for their orders. During our time eating at Chica's many people came to pick up their orders and didn't have to wait, I highly recommend that! Just remember that you're there for the food and not the ambiance! The interior is a bit run down and old fashioned, but staff is super friendly! Also the ranch sauce for waffle fries is really good! I can't wait to go back and try the sandwich!

I waited to visit this joint a few times before writing a review, but I am confident in writing a 5-star for this joint. Chica's is some of the best fried chicken you can get in Toronto, and really makes the drive from downtown worth it. First of all, the pieces are mammoth-sized. Just a breast/wing and a side will fill you up real good. Even though it's a giant breast, it remains incredibly moist and full of flavour. Be warned, the Hot AF is actually hot, so go for a medium if you've got some spice tolerance but still want to enjoy your meal. The skin is so crispy and delicious and goes very well with the chicken. The buttermilk ranch dressing is out of this world, and tastes so good with the chicken, and really helps to cool things down when it gets a bit hot. The bread underneath soaks up all the chicken goodness and completes the experience. If you want it all put together, then get the sandwich, which has all the components in every bite. The waffle fries are amazing too. Nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and they're a nice break from the heat of the chicken. The coleslaw is average, but still an enjoyable accompaniment to the chicken. It has to be stated that the staff are insanely friendly and nice. Everything is made to order, but they make the wait much more palatable. Head on over and get some great chicken and sides.

An awesome Mom & Pop shop!! Greeted with a smile, Made fresh, great crunch on the chicken, and great flavour. The little fry sounds itty bitty but it was BIG! Super filling and satisfying! Right at Keele/Dundas St W., steps away from transit and street parking is available. My new favourite fried chicken place! Keep it up!!

Perhaps it's the lack of truth in advertising, so it's becomes easy to be a bit dismissive anytime a place claims their chicken is super spicy. I'll tell you now that you should take Chica's very seriously and very literally when they tell you that their chicken is "medium" and especially the "hot AF". If anyone is familiar with Nashville-style chicken, it's already known to be spicy. So when you order "medium" here, you're not getting barely spiced chicken. This would easily pass for hot or even extra hot at other places. In hindsight, it's best to understand this as medium or average within the scope of Nashville-style chicken - which is known to be spicy. The medium had two ratings for heat, and the "Hot AF" was given five. I can tell you that this is also not arbitrary, but that the Hot AF is comfortably two and a half times hotter than the medium - at least. We were later told that ghost pepper and Carolina Reaper peppers are used for the seasoning. This isn't a case like Popeye's which may dash the smallest amount of ghost pepper in order to legitimise their chicken off as "ghost pepper" hot by meeting some technicality; at Chica's they are certainly using bonafide scorching heat with their Hot AF. Chica's isn't simply serious about spiciness however, they are serious about the quality of the chicken and the sides. Each piece of chicken is actually a 1/4 chicken which typically counts for 2 or more at other places, so don't that mislead you into thinking it's expensive. I was with a group of 4 and we ordered the family meal which was 4 pieces (4 quarters) of chicken, and three sides of: coleslaw, waffle fries, and bean salad. We all had a special craving ahead of time for waffle fries, so we asked to forgo the bean salad for more fries which they were happy to accommodate. They also throw in a sour-cream based dipping sauce, along with homemade pickles and a few slices of sliced bread. Altogether, it came out to $50, so with tax we each spent less than $15 each which is more than fair value. The chicken is very meaty, but also flavourful. Aside from the spice, there's also a fair amount of seasoning in the chicken which gives it great taste, but without being too salty. Even the coleslaw has a bit of heat to it, only slightly. The waffle fries were almost certainly made in house and I've long held the view that it's the best cut you can have for fries. They take what they do very seriously here: the chicken is faithful to Nashville, it's perfectly cooked and they also have a sincere regard for the customer as we were asked more than once how we liked everything. I'd whole-heartedly recommend this place, with the only caveat being that you need to understand the heat they're working with. Unless you're the very rare extreme heat seeker, you should probably avoid the hot AF. Other than that, probably order down one level of heat than what you're used to.

Chica's Nashville Hot Chicken serves up exactly what they advertise, which is hot southern-style chicken that is fried to perfection. There are few places in Toronto that specialize in one thing and do it really well... and this place is among the best on that list! Everything on the menu is mouthwatering, and the size of the chicken is insane for the price. You will have to wait a good 10 or 15 minutes for your order, but every second is worth it. Don't make plans to come here until you're ready for an adventure. A sandwich took me a good hour to slowly chomp down, as I wanted to absorb the full 'Nashville' experience in one sitting. Sides include bean salad, cole slaw, waffle fries, and all the other 'fixins' you'd expect them to have. They keep things really simple and straightforward here, and the staff is friendly. A cool variety of music plays in the background, and this establishment really brings charm and character to this classic Toronto neighbourhood. Believe the hype, these guys deserve five stars just on the food and service alone. Pro tip: Kick it up a notch and try the medium or hot spicy chicken!

I'll admit I was pretty skeptical walking into Chica's Nashville Hot Chicken. Every review on this site, as of this writing, is a glowing five-star affair, and I was suspicious as to their accuracy and veracity. How could I not be? Such concerns were completely unwarranted, it turns out. After a quick perusal of the refreshingly compact menu, I decided to try their Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich with a side order of Coleslaw. I opted for the Hot AF option, of course. The food was delivered to our table about 15 minutes later and it sure looked impressive. The almost intimidatingly large piece of fried chicken is meticulously placed between two slices of perfect white bread. And although my first bite was just breading, my subsequent bites immediately told me I was eating something pretty special. The chicken is cooked flawlessly; I would go so far as to say this was one of the best pieces of fried chicken I've ever had, since it was moist and juicy and in no way overpowered by the breading. The sandwich actually maintained its integrity throughout, too, which is no small feat. The Hot AF seasoning admittedly was a little too spicy for me, but my dining companion, who had already eaten at Chica's twice before, noted that it seemed spicier than usual. It's worth noting, too, that the creamy coleslaw is much, much better than I expected. It's actually far more flavorful than your typical coleslaw of this type, and I can certainly imagine stopping by just to buy a bucket of the stuff. Here's hoping Chica's is here to stay. (And here's hoping they eventually expand to a location a little closer to my place.)

It took us an hour to get to this little restaurant via ttc. We sweated buckets on a hot day as the resto only has portable ac. Worth it? Oh yes. The chicken is absolutely tender and has just the right amount of spice at medium hot. The portion sizes are enormous. Quarter chicken is definitely enough for 2 meals. I was even ravenous before I started. Husband had the sandwich which was even better, I think. Would go back even with the 2 hour commute round trip!

In the time of coronavirus, Chica's Nashville Hot Chicken is serving their sandwiches, bites and sides for takeout. No meals or platters for takeout though. I ordered The OG (texas toast, coleslaw, pickles, buttermilk ranch) as a combo with a side of coleslaw. The sandwich was good. The chicken was crispy outside, juicy and tender inside. I ordered mine medium, and the amount of heat was good; I would not want it any spicier than that. The side of coleslaw complimented the sandwich perfectly. Price point is a bit high, but the product is good. Service is great, very friendly. GreenP parking nearby. Easy TTC access (bus route 41).
