Popeyes Chicken Plans First U.K. Restaurant Opening in London | Eater London

"The U.S. fried-chicken sandwich chain with a documented history of funding anti-LGBTQ+ organisations experienced a highly contested U.K. presence: its lease at a Reading shopping centre was cancelled just a week after opening amid sustained local protests, and it quietly closed a Scotland Highlands hotel outlet in January 2020, illustrating how community opposition has complicated its attempts to establish itself in Britain." - James Hansen

American Fast Food Giant Wendy’s Plans U.K. Restaurant Opening in 2021 | Eater London

"An American chicken chain opened a branch at the Oracle shopping centre in Reading last October but shut it after just eight days, following public pressure and protests over the company's record on LGBTQ issues; the brief opening had initially suggested plans for wider European expansion before the rapid closure." - Adam Coghlan

Chick-Fil-A’s U.K. Restaurant Sees LGBTQ Protest at Oracle Reading | Eater London

"Opening its first U.K. restaurant at Reading’s Oracle Shopping Centre, this massive American fried‑chicken chain is best known for its minimalist, widely imitated sandwich and huge U.S. scale (reported $10.5 billion in sales in 2018 and the third‑largest fast‑food chain by sales behind McDonald’s and Starbucks). The outlet will close on Sundays in line with founder S. Truett Cathy’s stated “biblical principles,” a policy rooted in the brand’s Christian identity. That religious grounding has also drawn sustained controversy: the company has been criticized for millions in donations to organizations that opposed same‑sex marriage and promoted conversion therapy (the latter now dissolved), and for funding channels such as the National Christian Foundation — donations the company said would stop in 2012 but filings show continued giving through at least 2017. Entering the U.K. without the familiar community role it plays in some American regions, the chain faces scrutiny that may make patrons judge it as much for its politics as for its sandwiches; the company says it is focusing on this location as a consumer test while plans for wider U.K. expansion, including London, remain under discussion." - James Hansen

Brand new Building. Opened 11/4. This is from being there 11/5. DO NOT GO HERE! They must have lost every employee who knows how to get things done. My 5-10 min mobile order took 35 minutes to be ready. Somehow the place feels smaller and more crowded. Parking lot is bigger and they have fancy new ordering lines for drive through that are ridiculously packed right now. Stay away until they figure it out.

We went to celebrate our daughter’s kindergarten graduation, and Susan overheard us and made the day special for her. She was so happy all day! We’ve been coming to this place for over 4 years, always great experiences! Thank you!

I am sitting at the drive through 30 minutes in. Still half way of the line and nowhere near the pickup window. I understand the employees are new, but this is ludicrous. Edit: I finally got my order, and the food is not good at all. The fries were cold and rubbery. The chicken nuggets super dry. I had never had this experience at any other chil-fil-a before.

I feel sorry for the employees who have to work here. This is a perfect example of “if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it”. After a tear down and rebuild, all they’ve done is create chaos. It’s obviously understaffed (don’t blame the employees for the service, they’re doing the best they can). God forbid you have a medical emergency or need the bathroom while in the drive thru. They should have added an escape lane while they were rebuilding because it will take 30 minutes of your life to get through this restaurant. The biscuits seem different too. Much drier. They should change the name while they’re at it to Chick Fil UGH!

Food is delicious as always and the costumer service is really nice!! One thing I did notice though is that all other locations I go to fill up the small Mac and cheese bowl to a normal filled amount but this places leaves a lot of space. They really make sure that the small size is smaaaall, this was only a few bites compared to other places being a meal. I’m not sure if you get what you pay for but food was still delicious!

I know they just did the reconstruction on the location, but whoever is in charge shouldn’t be in charge. I’ve never been in a drive thru for 30+ minutes at any restaurant. I was under the impression that the iPad system wasn’t working or failed but nobody said anything with numerous people waiting. A “Hey our system is experiencing difficulties” or some kind of heads up warning would have been nice instead of just saying nothing. Maybe they should have some extra iPads just in case 1 fails? Before the reconstruction I’ve never had a problem. Whatever is going on now is just a terrible system.

When pulling in the parking lot one can see every thing is clean and swept outside. No overflowing trash cans. Inside is friendly and helpful with attentive staff. Lunch time is very busy but the staff make it quick and as always the Chicken is outstanding.

This location is good for drive through. To dine in is very bad. The chicken strips were very wet and slightly pink. I was curious if it’s fully cooked. The bathroom required a code to go in. Very inconvenient!
