Last week my wife and I were watching old episodes of Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri. He'd reviewed this place. I was flying into OKC on Sunday and decided to give it a go.
I bellied up to the bar, which was sticky, and ordered an IPA, Gochujang traditional wings, Mango Thai Chili traditional wings (both recommended by the bartender), Traditional Fries, and House Pickles (cucumber).
I noticed the bartender was pouring essentially foam into a glass, transferring some IPA to another glass, and doing this until I had a full glass. I asked him about that and he said something about when it gets warmer outside he has this problem as the lines are long from the kegs. I've watched enough Bar Rescue episodes to know that 1) yes, that can be the problem, and 2) that shouldn't be a problem in a reputable establishment. I mean, after all, doesn't it get even hotter around here in the summer? The IPA ended up being a bit warmer than what I'm accustom to and the carbonation was almost non-existent. But enough about that.
The wings: I suppose I expected more since this was on Guy's show and he was impressed. I assumed tender, meaty wings. The Gochujang traditional wings were not. They were fairly tough. Not sure if it was the Sunday night chef overcooking or what. Flavor was great! The Mango Thai Chili traditional wings were more tender and they were flavorful as well.
The traditional fries were a bit soggy. They were, however, hot and editable.
The House Pickles were delicious and a great complement to the wings.
I decided not to have a second IPA since I wasn't happy with the first one.
And finally, when the bill came I noticed I was charged $0.50 more for the wings and $0.25 more for the pickles. I know, I know, so what, it's $0.75. It's something I wouldn't generally notice, but I ordered the pickles because I saw they were only $1.25 on the QR-only menu and that number stuck in my head. I pointed this out and the bartender did discount me the three-quarters difference.
Bottom line: sauces are really good and flavorful. Place needs some work to be squeaky clean. Not sure I will be back.
