Longtime Freedom Park Trail Mexican Spot Across the Street Closes [Update] | Eater Atlanta

"A longtime Highland Avenue Mexican restaurant that opened in 2007, Across the Street was known for strong margaritas, quirky decor, and creative riffs on Mexican fare, with many menu items identified as gluten-free or vegetarian and a pet-friendly covered patio popular with dog owners and people walking the nearby Freedom Park trail. Along with its adjacent neighborhood market, it helped anchor the Old Fourth Ward’s early redevelopment and even opened its kitchen to feed stranded residents during the January 2014 snowstorm. Owned by Ali Wild and Lana Banks (who also run The Standard in New Orleans), the restaurant closed suddenly last week; staff were seen removing items and sources indicate the closure may be permanent, though the next-door market could remain open." - Beth McKibben

We stopped in on a rainy cold Saturday afternoon. We had some delicious soup along with delicious double smash cheeseburgers for our lunch. It was more than enough food! Jackie was friendly & helpful - I love great customer service! Thank you Jackie!

Big things come in small packages, and this place is small but oh so good!!! The loaded baked potato soup was very good, big hunks of bacon and potatoes. The Ol' Blue burger was so tasty and the chip fries yummy! I highly recommend Chicken Across the Street!!

Google
Decent made to order food with a few unique items to make you curious. I had the Reuben sandwich with Chicken Cordon Blue soup and my wife had the French Dip sandwich with Potato soup. Both soups were satisfying and the sandwiches were quite good with hand sliced meat in both.

Service is great, atmosphere is fun, fixens on burger were fresh and delicious, sweet potato fries some of the best, but burger pattie (beef) had no taste.

Poor no service spent her time on the phone. We had to get her attention just for drinks and we were told to wait because she was on the phone and upgrading something on her computer. Yes we went across the street to the shefs brewhouse and it was delicious and the service was great.

Yelp
Listen.... I wanted so bad for this place to be good! Chicken across the street is the new name of this place. I've been craving fried chicken and I just can't find what I'm looking for in terms of the beautiful southern fried chicken and good quality sides. I saw the hot honey sliders and I thought that could be my new jam.... SO disappointed! The chicken on my slider was not edible as in I couldn't chew it. Like literally couldn't. My mom and I split the dish and hers was sort of edible because you could chew it but it was SO dry that I took two bites of hers and had to spit it on my napkin. The jalapeno poppers were however, delicious! I actually took a pic of the parts that were not edible (sorry if you are tossed out by that) and it was at least half.

Yelp
Nice place for a lunch - clean, plenti of inside and outside places to sit. My first time and I asked to pick for me. Went with the Rueben and a cup of the potato/bacon/jalapeño soup. The sandwich was bigger than expected -piled high with pastrami and kraut. I would have preferred less dressing, however, as that was too much. The soup was excellent. Service consists of placing your order first, get a number and go find s seat. But - friendly with a smile. Will come back to try the grinder.

Yelp
New venue. Chicken Across the Street is now at Brave Bull. Excellent chicken. Smoked, fried, spicy or sweet. Enough food to fill up the family for lunch or dinner. Just opened and has a full head of steam. Got to try it.

Yelp
Decided to try Brave Bull on a Friday night, about an hour before they closed. Chief's across the street was quite busy and this place only had two other customers. We sat outside in the patio area all by ourselves the whole time, it was quite nice! It was a cooler evening than it had been all week (the 100 degree, smoky week!) and the outdoor area was pleasant to sit, you just have to be aware at any outdoor eatery that there may be bees buzzing around. We ordered the french dip and the BBQ bowl with chicken and avocado cilantro sauce. The bowl is significant and it had lots of all the things. It was very good, the only thing I would like to have seen was smaller chunks of chicken and maybe a flavor to the rice, I think it was just plain white rice. But was also just fine the way it was. My husband said the dip was very good (he added mushrooms). I tried some of the beef and it was very flavorful, kind of a twist on the dip in that the strips are BBQ'd or smoked with some kind of rub. The fries were good as well. I think its safe to say we would return.

Yelp
Food is amazing Service is great The ambiance is quaint and cozy. Drinks at the small bar are perfect. You get the true feeling of a family restaurant that make you feel AT HOME!

Yelp
I had the Grinder on sourdough and it was AMAZING - flavorful and filling! Service was spot on - polite, helpful and personable. Interior was clean and quaint. Has a full bar area as well as dining area with booths. Too bad I am an "out of towner" as this would be my regular hang. I will make the trip back here again.

Yelp
The Reuben is excellent! The potato chips were warm and delish, my husband enjoyed his grilled cheese sandwich as well. Great craft drink selection and they feature Chiefs Beer. We will be back! Wonderful community addition.

Yelp
Fish and chips was the special. Reasonable price but first piece the inside of fish was cold. Promptly took care of, waitress said they use frozen and set timer so it should be done. I suggested she tell the cook to try one piece using the timer and see if they shouldn't adjust the time. Not sure she took the suggestion. The resulting "re-warming" caused the crust to be a little overdone but still edible, just had to wIt a few minutes for them to cool down. Still flavorful. Fries were great and very very plentiful!

Yelp
this place is fantastic! personally, I have been waiting for something like this for time. for starters, the business fix right in with this the small-town atmosphere! additionally, it provides much needed variety for the local people. I feel like it goes without saying, the food is fantastic! you can tell from the very first bite that it is made with care and attention to detail! the passion for what they do is obvious, and it really shines through in the food. as a Coburg resident, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I am delighted they have a new place to eat! in my view, this is win for the community and the business! I personally feel that it is the best place to eat in Coburg buy some distance! they have great variety and a reasonable price you can't ask for much more! I have every confidence that they will be successful in the future! as for me, I will be supporting them every step of the way and I wish them every success!
