New Orleans’ Best Chicken Wings | Eater New Orleans

"Why settle for one flavor when 20 will do? Chicken and Watermelon on Claiborne is downright excellent, with flavors like ranch parmesan, crunchy barbecue, jerk, Cajun ranch, and the delicious fish fried. Mix and match flavors in orders from 10 to 100 pieces, fried to order. The watermelon punch is sweet, but there’s a good daiquiri place next door." - Beth D’Addono

I was so excited to try the fried red fish and crab rice. It felt like stepping back in the early 2000 music selection was Amazing. The young lady at the counter taking my order was so helpful and explained the different tea/punch options. I rate her 5 ⭐️ I ordered and drove back to the Westbank. Just to open my plate and my red fish was over cooked (fried hard as a brick) 🥹 the crab rice was perfect. I called back just to let them know my experience. The lady that answered the phone was extremely helpful. It was when she placed me on hold to talk to the kitchen staff I heard a man say that’s not his business. I thanked her for her professionalism and advised how disappointing it was to hear him say that. Pics of the red fish, crab rice and payment details attached. I would try them again but make sure the guy that’s in the kitchen feels good food is most definitely his business. From one black business owner to another we are most definitely responsible for making sure our team members have the same core values as us. Have a great day. Good luck in the future.

Chicken and Watermelon 🍉 is like the loyal friend always stepping in at the right time when you need them! The wing special never disappoints! For under $20-25 I’m always able to pig out or treat multiple people and the taste is consistent which tons of restaurants lack these days. There is a wing flavor and something on the menu to satisfy any and everyone. Chicken and watermelon staff feel like family and always make your food fresh which I greatly appreciate! 10/10 will always recommend! #Blackowned as well

Google
Wings are tender. Fries are tasty. They are not fresh cut fries, but they season them up nice. Staff is super friendly and patient. Love the choice of beverages. Zero diet anything. Everything is sweet and they have a few cool flavors of soda.

Google
Found this place by accident and don't regret it! Some of the craziest combinations I've ever experienced and it works! The menu is extensive so you might get a lil overwhelmed. That's where the service comes in. They take their time to explain to you whatever you're wondering about. I had their watermelon wings. I was so skeptical but was damn proud of that choice! It works so well together. Definitely a new fave spot!

Google
Came here for lunch with friends on Oct 20 as we were wanting some good wings. The outside and inside isn’t too much to look at but don’t allow for that to deter you from the food! I order the 5 piece combo that comes with the 5 wings (any flavoring), fries, and a drink. The flavoring I choose was lemon pepper and I actually regret it as it wasn’t that tasty to be lemon pepper. The wings were very crispy like I like them but they were also a little small. For the pricing you do get a good deal and I would definitely go back to try one of the wet flavorings. I have also added pics of my friend’s wings!

I came here from Washington State and wandered in randomly. I took one bite and realized I had been eating chicken wrong my whole life. Unbelievably delicious

Google
On 06-Jan-2025 I visited Chicken & Watermelon. I ordered the Smokehouse Wings. They did not disappoint. They came out of the kitchen piping hot and fresh. The flavor was exceptional. These were some of the best wings I have ever had. I brought home a few wings for my wife, and she confirmed that they were the best wings she ever had. I will gladly return to experience more flavors.

Yelp
One of the best chicken spots in the hood! The flavors be good af tho no lie..now you can't ever get a watermelon slice when you go for some strange reason lol. The chicken wings be small too. It's like they buy the smallest chicken they can find and fry it then sauce it up. The fries be good too. Listen if you scared of the hood then that ain't the place for you to be in..the chicken is off the chain tho!! Also parking is rather hectic..then they have a daiquiri shop right next door with good drinks! The shop is always clean when I go..I dont think i ever used the bathroom there..the service is average. If you call the order in they don't normally fix it til you get there and pay for it..but do you blame them for not wasting food if you do t show up..i know its all over the place but hell its good! Let me get off here before I drive Uptown and order me a 10 piece lol 4 stars bc of baby chicken you get

Yelp
Uber eats this late night while in town. Quite pricey but the wings were pretty damn good. The fries were fries and the drink that was the promotion with the wings was absolutely insaneeeeee. I've never had a lemonade such as this and the messed up thing I didn't even drink it till the next day and I was blown away.

Kym J.

Yelp
GIRL!!!! These wings was rollinggg ESPECIALLY the 0017th. I see why they are the top selling flavor. It had a nice creamy sauce with that ranch powder (which is not hidden valley, it definitely taste homemade). I also had the cajun creole, which was okay they also had a nice flavor to them. It didn't have any spice or anything, but you could definitely taste the cajun creole flavor. I also tried one of my sister's Caribbean bbq wings. It certainly had the jerk flavor undertones to it, but not overwhelmingly. All of the wings were good, but 0017th is the best! The customer service was good, they're really nice when taking your order and very professional. The wait time was about 15ish minutes. Overall, it's 10s across the board for this wing spot! I wish I didn't stay on the westbank, but it's worth the trip.

Yelp
Just ordered delivery it was horrible! Cold, toooo salty, soggy fries, missing items, and just terrible!!!! Of course Uber eats not helpful. So disappointed...

Yelp

Yelp
The food was great!! The service was most gracious. And the ambiance was just what I expected. I had the lemon pepper and jerk chicken wings with fries and that Oprah Winfrey punch. Very tasty and delicious. My girls and I had a great time there. Will return soon.

Yelp
Awful...I been to this place twice trying to support black business., The food quality is very poor. I had to bring my co-worker and my wings back they were old and refried in grease. The meat was very tough.

Yelp
Wings were fire. I was in NOLA visiting on my birthday and my friend asked what I wanted for dinner. I told him I wanted my favorite food CHICKEN WINGS and he said he got a spot right up my alley. We proceeded to grab daiquiris from Jazz daquiris next door and select from the many flavors at Chicken & Watermelon. The people who worked here are very down to earth which I can appreciate! Music in here is jamming. And most importantly the chicken is on point. We had hot, lemon pepper and cajun creole (nice savory flavor) and they were all cooked to perfection varying in size. Also had a bite of my boy's fish bites with the cajun ranch and that was also hittin! Love it, will be back
google avatar

Yelp
mid. small wings with good taste at a regular wing price. support local business i guess?

Chassidy S.

Yelp
I ordered my combo through UberEats. They seal your order with a sticker so that you'll know your food wasn't tampered with. I literally paid $22.50 for a ten piece combo, which is extremely expensive to not get all of the things I paid for. I got the chicken, but no dipping sauce or fries that I asked for. I called the store directly and they told me that I ordered chicken only, but my UberEats receipt clearly shows that I ordered and paid for a combo. Again, way too much money to NOT get what you paid for and to speak with people in the store that are not willing to remedy THEIR mistake.
google avatar

Yelp
One of the best wing spots in the city. Caribbean Jerk, lemon pepper and hot dry rub are my favorites.
google avatar

Grace S.

Yelp
It is a local spot. Excellent service. I got my food to-go. There are places to sit but most people seemed to be getting their orders to go. I could not decide which of the 80+ flavors to get so I had the server choose... I got wet spicy, wet bbq and 007. It was so good! I recommend this restaurant!
google avatar

Eli W.

Yelp
I got the cajun ranch and the watermelon flavor. Hats. Freaking. Off. Im a wing NUT! Yall do it. Perfect. Just plz offer a good chunky blue cheese. Get that and its perfection. Im a blue cheese snob and i ate these with ranch. What are you waiting for? Get in your car and go!

Yelp
Food was hot and tasty. They have a ton of flavors and food is cooked to order. My family really enjoyed.
google avatar

Lamont B.

Yelp
The service is mediocre. The food was not that great for 20 bucks the wings this sauce, Liz, I had a handful of fries. This will not be a visit for me ever in life again and then they charge a service charge to use your credit card.

Yelp
good food good prices. love the weekday lunch special. wings have been kind of small lately, but i know friends that have been and say they're normal sized again
google avatar

Bobby L.

Yelp
Honestly, this place gets 2 stars because of the size of the wings. The flavors are good and they offer many different flavors, but its hard to overlook the extra small wings.

Terry B.

Yelp
Food was fire. Best in the city. The chicken is always hot & also the fries. Sometimes I get 10 specials at one time. Can't beat the deal.

Allen K.

Yelp
what can i say. never again. RUDE ON THE PHONE AND RUDE IN PERSON. we order one thing and got another. they were out of the sauces for the wings we ordered so instead of asking us if we wanted different they just decided themselves what they were gonna give us. seemed like Micki D's rejects.

Tyrone B.

Yelp
Good food. If you looking for a quick spot around the way, they got chá. Try em out, I think you'll like it

Yelp
THE BEST WINGS IN NEW ORLEANS. I highly recommend the wet cajun ranch or the dry lemon pepper wings. Also, these people are so sweet and work so hard to serve their customers. I've literally been craving these wings every day this week and got them 2 days in a row. Bonus: C&W does good for their community like the backpack drive they have coming up in August. So happy to patronize this business. Also, a wonderful black-owned business in the community--hope y'all are around for a long time!

Yelp
I called this location and needed the Kenner store. The girl I spoke with was very polite. She got the number for me right away. Now for my Kenner location review because they don't have a page. The girl I spoke with at this location was also very nice and helpful. We ordered 100 wings with 2 sauces and 2 rubs. Cajun ranch and Caribbean BBQ. And a Jerk rub and a chipotle rub. I asked about how long because we are super close to the restaurant and she said not long. We waited about 10 minutes and my husband left to pick them up. We enjoyed the wings. Maybe the next time we order we can try some different flavors. They had so many to choose from. We didn't order sides but there was a good bit to choose from. I would recommend and would order from here again.

Yelp
Love this place for wings. I initially tried this place with a groupon with I otherwise would never have even found this place. Decided to go with the 25 piece meal and tried 4 different types. The location isn't the best and there's always parking in front but it's really hard to pull out on such a busy street so I parked around the corner. Inside the restaurant is really really nice with TV screens on each table and inside is clean. After looking through the menu I decided to order: 1. Classic Garlic Parm: I've always got to go with the classic and they do it very well. Their chicken is always perfectly fried and the seasoning is fantastic. Not too greasy and not too salty. One of my favorites. 2. Lemon Pepper: Fantastic. The trick for this wing is that it has to stay crunchy after the wet lemon pepper sauce and not taste oily. They do an great job. 3. Cajun Creole: I actually don't remember what this one tasted like. I remember my housemate loved it but I thought it was just alright. Definitely a nice creole taste but thats all i remember. 4. Boogie Bird: definitely my favorite wing. It's a bit spicy which I normally don't like but they do an excellent balance of spicy and sweet. I love the amount of sauce on it and I love that it is unique to this restaurant. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Overall, if you're looking for fairly priced wings, I would definitely come to this place. Again the area isn't the best so I would come with friends or only during the day time but otherwise, the staff is SUPER SUPER nice. The cashier let me try a bunch of different sauces before ordering which was really nice. She was also really patient with me when I was trying to decide what to order and was really helpful with suggestions without pushing me to pick a certain type. This place is definitely worth a try and I like that it's a local small business which I would always support over larger chain restaurants.

Yelp
I decided to stop by this place after passing it up numerous times to figure out what all the hype was about. I decided to call in my order because I was getting it for lunch,in which I don't have a lot of time. That being said when I got there my order was still not ready so I had to wait until it was freshly made which by the way I'm not totally upset about it, I just wish the food would've been ready because that was the reason for me calling it in. Other than that the food itself was pretty good standard buffalo wings with seasoned fries. I also purchased a slice of watermelon because I figured you can't go to a chicken and watermelon spot without getting the actual watermelon! It was fresh and juicy so I was happy. All in all a good wing spot be back if I just want some good wings and maybe some good punch.

Yelp
An update is due when you catch yourself drooling over the thought of their wing combinations, don't blink an eye for delivery orders or smile everytime you pass by their restaurant. I love the flavor offerings and the chance to do a double down( (that's what I call it lol) and can get your wings wet and then add a dry rub or another sauce on it. These wings are freaking delicious and everyone needs to try them. Great I just drooled over my laptop typing this... I'm ordering some this week.
google avatar

Brittany C.

Yelp
Ordered and paid for two 10 piece wing combos with cheese ranch fries, order of fried corn, and a slice of watermelon...didn't get anything but wings and fries. They charged us for the corn and watermelon just for us to get to the room and see they didn't even pack it in the bag. The wings were fried hard how I like but their dry rub wings are just fried flats and drumettes. No seasoning or dry rub on them at all!! We will never eat here again. We really wanted We Dats but they are closed and boarded up I guess due to Covid and Wing Snack's line was so long. I guess it explains the no wait here. Should've paid attention to the signs lol bet they won't get another dime from us though.

Yelp
After passing this restaurant five days a week for the past two years, I decided to finally stop. This ia definitely a grab and go location. There is seating inside, but its really to wait on your order and not to dine-in. I read the reviews about the service and I must say that my experience was great. I went at lunch time and the traffic was steady but not busy. As a first-time visitor, I had aome questions about the menu. The staff were pleasant and patient with me. I ordered two lunch combos (five wings, fries, and a drink). The wait time was not bad... ten minutes at most. In my opinion the wings were not as small as described in other reviews. In ordered the Caribbean BBQ and creole cajun flavors. The wings were good. Not chart-topping... but good. The fries were ok. I like my fries to be crunchy on the outside and soft inside. These fries lacked crunch. The fries were seasoned, but they were still just shy of bland. The drink was from the fountain, and it had a slightly odd taste, but not terrible. I guess for $5.95 I cant be too critical. I owe it to myself and this place to maybe order a large batch of wings with different flavors to really get a better sense of things. Overall it was decent for the price.
google avatar

Courtney A.

Yelp
One of my favorite chicken places. Ever flavor is pretty awesome. You can make a game out of going in to try some new flavors. The latest delight? The Cajun one! The juice is good too for an occasional summer treat (or something from Jazz Bext door), but if you can have the carbs just grab a slice of watermelon . Around the way, counter delivery service style (hot dropped) just amazing little spot. Wish I added the pics but the disappeared as soon as I brought it home.

Yelp
Ok. So I read other reviews and realized that some folks went to a spot called "Chicken and Watermelon" and excepted it to be a gourmet restaurant. My wife loves wings. We are from the East Coast and now live in California and she has had wings everywhere we been. We came to this spot during Mardi Gras, and it did NOT disappoint. Yes, customer service isn't the service you get at a 5 star dining experience but sometimes you appreciate hard working, relatable, and down to earth folks. You know where you are. It's a small spot inside but it feels like home (if you are from the neighborhood). Wings were tasty and great! The price was AMAZING! I lived in CT and now CA and you can't get quality wings and food at this price. We appreciated the atheistic. Woman behind us had the chicken sandwich, said it was GREAT. Think it cost like 4.50! I mean c'mon! We will be back. The food was AMAZING.

Yelp
I was excited to try Chicken and Watermelon. Drove by it many times. The names of the sauces sounded interesting, the concepts of drizzles and sprinkles cool. And wings are like sex, even when they're bad, they're good. Right? Wrong!!! These wings have the dubious distinction of simultaneously being the worst and most expensive wings I have ever eaten in my life. The wings are shriveled and emaciated, like the Crypt Keeper's fingers. Must be pigeon wings... I picked up the bag and seemed like if defied the laws of physics, as I had ordered something, yet it felt as though the bag contained nothing. A ten piece combo with fries should weigh SOMETHING. My SO and I normally share a ten piece combo literally anywhere else but this would be a light snack for one person. Fries were soggy and miserable. Hardly any seasoning. Hardly any fries. No ranch in the bag. No watermelon. Avoid this utter trash at all costs. There are many wing places in New Orleans where your money is better spent. Don't even entertain the notion of coming here.
google avatar

Angie P.

Yelp
Three stars because the wings are pretty good and they have a lot of different flavor choices, location isn't great (that's all I'll say), this gets three stars for the wings and only that, it's EXTREMELY annoying that they start the to-go orders when you're picking up the order. Basically, a waste of time to even get DoorDash or order ahead because it will take that much longer BUT location is kinda sketchy so you might want to DoorDash. I hope this makes sense. I've put a lot of ppl on this place but now we all agree on one thing: how absurd it is to even have "to go" if I can't just grab it at pickup and leave. I'm sure they're trying to save money just in case ppl don't show up but they're also losing money because people know they can't just grab a quick lunch and go.
google avatar

C C.

Yelp
The food is really good. The sauces are on point! I definitely suggest the garlic and the boogie. The watermelon punch is so thick. Ice couldn't even dilute it. I ended up throwing it out. The prices are a bit high, $11 of 5 chicken party wings, fries and a drink... I'm all about supporting small businesses. It's worth it if it means helping someone build their dream!
google avatar

Kari W.

Yelp
The food is good HOWEVER the service is slow and those cashiers BABY they are the RUDEST young ladies I have ever seen in customer service this was my second time coming since I was in town for a wedding and decided to show my friends this spot as well and that customer service was complete trash. They made so many mistakes as well and handed out wrong food. Everyone in the lobby was just frustrated. again the food is good but there definitely needs to be some retraining for the front of house
google avatar

Joseph O.

Yelp
Rotten chicken. Period. Don't ever eat here. They must have had some chicken that was days old and served it to us during our to go order. Maybe I shouldn't have sent the white guy to order it!
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
They actually do have watermelon here along with watermelon punch, Obama punch, and Michelle punch (but for some reason no Ray Nagin chocolate punch). This is mainly a chicken wing focused joint with the addition of chicken gizzards, red beans, jalapeno bombers, fries and the namesake watermelon. They also offer the infamous 100 piece chicken. Cash only!
google avatar

J B.

Yelp
Had the 20 piece crunchy half garlic parm & lemon pepper. The chicken was made to order & since it was crunchy it took a additional 15min but it was well worth it. I enjoyed my meal & the place has a colorful cool vibe w tvs to help pass the time.
google avatar

Jared L.

Yelp
food was fresh and delicious! when you are in the city of new orleans chicken & watermelon is a must!
google avatar

Mikelle E.

Yelp
I could smell the delicious from down the street, that is what drew me in. I've always heard the advertisement on the radio, but was reluctant... this food was fokin.good. The cashier was super helpful, the service was fast and most importantly the food was delicious. I purchased the lemon pepper and bbq chicken wings and I wish I had more. It was super hot and flavorful, definitely gives all the other chicken joints a run for their money!
google avatar

Daisha W.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for awhile. Well I was in the area and decided to stop by. First and foremost the customer service was top notch. Secondly, the wings and fries were on point. Lastly, this is a black-owned establishment. Also, next door is a black-owned daiquiri spot which is delicious and strong! I will definitely will be back.
google avatar

Andrea V.

Yelp
The wings are cool but they are so small I read the reviews and people commenting on how small but I didn't really care but dang they small lol
google avatar

Iona W.

Yelp
I've been eating here for quite a while. The different flavors of wings may overwhelm you just a bit. But don't trip. You won't go wrong trying any of them. It's a no frills type of place. Pretty small. There's 5 booths for seating. A walk up window to order from. All food is given "to-go". Chicken is ordered in flavored increments. 10,15,20,25,30 & 100. My personal favorite is to get a 10 piece....5 boogie bird, 5 #0017. I know, weird names for flavors huh?! Lol. There soooooo good tho! So that's the chicken part, as for the watermelon....there's a watermelon punch that's really just a SUPER SWEET watermelon kool-aid type drink. The place is totally worth a try if your into wings!!
google avatar

Jonathan L.

Yelp
I used to rave about Chicken and Watermelon to just about anyone who would listen, but after three disappointing experiences in a row, I will never return. I agree with the other reviewers who have commented that this establishment is simply trying to get by on its previous reputation while cutting all corners imaginable. Went in last night and ordered 25 wings, two different flavors, but both "wet." Prior to the visit, I had commented that I was hesitant to return because my past two orders were comprised of the tiniest chicken wings I have ever seen. We did not have that problem this time, but the wings were not sauced; just had some hot sauce slightly "drizzled" on them. $25 for 25 small chicken wings with barely a splash of hot sauce!? Never again!
google avatar

Jacob G.

Yelp
Cashiers were polite and courteous, cute too. But the value of the tiny tiny wings was not close. I mean tiny baby wings. Dat Get Ya Mind right sauce was jammin and really flavorful, fries and wings cooked perfectly but the wings were so freaking tiny it was an insult. The boudin bites were on point. I'm not saying I won't be back but next time I'm gonna have to spend even more money to get what would normally be a $12.00 plate I'll have to spend $20 to get full. But customer service was good, atm only works in Spanish but no problem for me as I speak Spanish. Place was clean and organized but dang them wings were tinyyyyyyyyyyy. Considered (party wings) not 6-8ct per lb 12-14 per lb but 14-18 per lb. Anyhow I'll be back for the cute girls, that hot sauce and the boudin. I may skip the wings and get a chicken sandwich wit dat get ya mind right sauce all over it.
google avatar

Kimberly J.

Yelp
I'm not sure how I feel about this place. Overall, for what it is, I think it's a little pricey and the actual wing quality is just okay. I do love the wide selection of flavor both wet and dry. We ordered the lemon pepper, the spicy, poppers and Cajun fries. Unfortunately they did not include all of the items we ordered and I still haven't been reimbursed the cost of what wasn't included. I probably would choose another wing place in the future.
google avatar

Margery T.

Yelp
I obtained my chicken and french fry combo via WAITR delivery, but I really don't think that had anything to do with how terrible my wings were. The driver made it to my office within 15 minutes of picking up the food. My wings were still hot, but my fries were solid room temperature. The wings were not fresh, I guarantee it. I've made the mistake at home of microwaving leftover wings, and these were definitely either microwaved or dipped in hot oil after already being cooked the day before. The smell was unpleasant, and the meat did not taste good. And the $1.25 upcharge for a "drizzle" of sauce. They are not kidding when they say drizzle, so if you like your wings fully sauced be prepared to shell out however many dollars it will take to make that happen. The presentation was sad and pathetic. And there was no slice of watermelon included with my order as the delivery menu specifically states comes with the orders. I've been wanting to try this place for years and now I know it's only hype. I recommend you spend your hard earned wing dollars at MoPho, Bourre, WingSnack, Manchu or Bayou Hot Wings. Skip this absurdly overpriced place that is probably laughing at how many people buy into how "legit" it is. (Yes, it costs more than all aforementioned establishments.)
google avatar

Darrah B.

Yelp
If you're into flavors you will love this place!! I believe they said there are 80 Flavor options for the wings. One good thing you don't have to pay for ranch! I was in the valley of decisions regarding the flavors I wanted my wings to be. The let me sample the sauces I inquired about! The drink concoction that they have is refreshing!! A must try!

Haley P.

Yelp
Solid wings. The sauces were unique. I really liked Boogie Bird. Staff was super helpful and friendly as well. It is a bit pricey for the size of the wings, but I'll still be back to try more!

Yelp
We had a Groupon for Chicken and Watermelon and stopped in to grab some wings to take back to our hotel for dinner. Be aware that the parking is pretty limited. We saw some folks double and triple parked. The interior is pretty small. The menu is painted on a large wall and you order at a window. There was some confusion with our order but we ended up with 10 BBQ wings, 10 cajun ranch, and 5 cajun creole. We also got some stuffed crab shells, an order of fries, and a watermelon punch. The wings were certainly a highlight, well-sauced with good flavor. They were done nicely also. The stuffed crab shells were ok and the fries were soggy by the time we got back to the hotel (I recognize that's our fault as fries rarely hold up in to-go containers). The watermelon punch was VERY sweet but did have a good watermelon flavor. Nice work, Chicken and Watermelon.
