The Horror that is Chicken Guy! I've been reading reviews since it opened, have driven by many times seeing lines of cars waiting and now that things have settled down, I was able to waltz right in at 5pm on a Tuesday. JAM Hot Chicken happened to be closed on a Tuesday, so a quick right, right, left, soft right, soft right and left into the parking lot and I was there (that is accurate, BTW).
This is a relatively new concept by Guy Fieri who has this shop in another Orlando location in Disney Springs. He's one of the few celebrity chef's where I'd lick his or her fingers (Emeril circa 2005, Bobby Flay, Morimoto, and of course Giada).
The parking lot is odd as I couldn't read the signs from the car, some are for curbside pickup and some are just for guests. I ended up having to back out of a spot since I couldn't read the small print before I parked. Bad signage!
When I entered, there were two people ordering and then it was all me! I didn't know what to expect so I kept it simple with a 3 tender meal which came with fries, a fountain drink, and 2 sauces. I dined in as getting tenders and fries to go is surely going to be a fail.
* Chicken Tender - This were moist and flavorful on their own, They didn't really need the sauces as they can totally be eaten naked. They have the crumbly breading which isn't my favorite, but the flavor and texture were both above average.
* Fries - The fries were seasoned with a LOT of whatever they shake on it, which means they were super salty. They were hot and crispy and I would get them again and maybe ask for less seasoning our unseasoned.
* Nashville Hot Honey Sauce - This sauce was all honey and no heat or Nashville anything. Bummer for a restaurant that says it's all about that sauce.
* Buffalo Sauce - This sauce was OK, but nothing super special about it. When you kinda throw it out there that the sauces are so spectacular, then you better deliver on it!
I will say I would totally go back. I'd like to try their sandwich and some more sauces (I think there are like 20 sauces or something like that). You can get extra sauces for 50 cents each. It would be fun to try them all and rate them, dontcha think?
The tenders themselves aren't too badly priced ($5.99 for 3), but adding the fries and drink seemed excessive. I did save $2 by signing up for text messages which still brought the 3 tender meal to over $10. They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as a Drive Thru which I have seen out to the road in the past.
Since Guy Fieri doesn't have a regular restaurant in Orlando, this will have to do for a celebrity chef fast food joint. I wish Richard Blaise would bring his Crack Shack to Orlando, but until then, Chicken Guy will have to do. They do chicken right (or is that another place?). 4 stars as it was as good but could use a few tweaks.
