Chicken & The Egg Review - East Village - New York - The Infatuation

"You have to be brave to open a fried chicken sandwich spot these days, because there isn’t exactly a shortage of great ones that already exist. Not only that, but this place in the East Village is right next door to a KFC. But the gamble is paying off for the team behind Chicken & The Egg. They’re serving some of the better chicken sandwiches in the city. Every version here (except for two vegan/veggie ones) comes with panko-crusted dark meat, and both the Ma Barker with vodka sauce/fresh mozzarella and the Lindbergh with garlic sauce/za’atar oil are really good. Our favorite is the G-Men, which comes with thick-cut bacon, cheese, and a fried egg. It’ll be the first thing you want when you wake up on a Sunday morning and realize those five shots you took last night came from a 140 proof bottle of liquor. As for sides, skip the way-too-salty cucumbers that are drowning in white miso, and get the orzo made with Velveeta and spicy bread crumbs. It tastes exactly like boxed mac and cheese, and we mean that as a compliment. This place only has a small ledge to eat your food on, but there’s a huge speakeasy (Sincerely, Ophelia) in the back where you can order anything from the menu. photo credit: Taner Kurtz" - Kenny Yang

Spicy steak omelette, fries and strawberry cheese pancakes were amazing. Philly cheese sandwich was bit different. Loved the love from all servers and were very accommodating with our kids. Keep up the good work.

While having our SUV serviced, we walked here to have breakfast. We were not in a hurry, which was good as it's not fast, BUT remember this is not a fast food restaurant. We both ordered omelets that were great, but the menu is HUGE, and I was tempted to order something else. We will definitely go back next time we are in town for our vehicle service.

Google
We had some mixed reviews today. While I will say the overall experience was good and most of the food was good, they were short staffed and the parking lot was partly closed off so it was a little crazy. We had the spicy omelet (great), the chicken and waffles (amazing), the chicken and gravy biscuits (great), and biscuits and gravy( not so great. Biscuit was hard and sausage was overcooked.) But the sides were good. Like the breakfast potatoes and pancakes and eggs. The brunch drinks were a little on the weak side. Over all we did enjoy our food. I would try it again.

We stopped in for breakfast before our 9 hour drive home, hoping for a great meal and a calm start to the day. The food was great compliments to the cook for a job well done! Unfortunately, the service was the complete opposite of the food. What really upset me was how the staff treated us after we finished eating. We took just a few minutes to sit before hitting the road, and while I was walking out of the restroom, I overheard our waitress say, “Oh, no they’re done, they just need to get up!” I turned and asked if she really said that, and she immediately tried to backtrack. Whether she “meant it or not,” it was rude and uncalled for. To make things worse, the waitress didn’t even warn my daughter that her plate was extremely hot. She ended up burning her hand a simple heads-up could’ve prevented that. No family should be treated with that kind of attitude, especially when they’re paying for a meal. The food was great, but the lack of hospitality and basic care from the staff completely ruined the experience. I truly hope management takes this feedback seriously.

We stopped here for a final brunch meal before hitting the road back home. We started our meal with the steak quesadillas appetizer (you may have to ask for the steak. Menu only says pork or chicken). Then for our entrees we got the honey chicken biscuit, spicy honey chicken and waffles, and the big breakfast. The chicken was fantastic; very crispy and juicy, and a great way to start the morning! The spicy honey was very good as well but also almost proved to be a mistake before the long 6 hour drive back home. While it wasn’t exceptional, the meal was definitely worth 5 stars and we’d come back again if we’re back in the area. Very comparable to IHOP restaurants. Quick and easy breakfast restaurant with decent prices serving all of the normal breakfast foods.

Came by myself to have breakfast. I ordered coffee, a mimosa, and the California Style eggs Benedict. I’ve been here many times before but this time… had me disappointed. Food took a while to get out ( no they were not busy, multiple tables open) and my server, who was training another person, not once came to check on me. It takes just seconds to ask how everything is. I had to get up to get salt and ketchup from another table, and my food was cold but I ate it anyway bc there was no way to tell anyone it wasn’t hot. I am also in the restaurant industry and I know how things can get, however, there was absolutely no initiative taken on my server or his trainees part. Also, my side of hash browns was enough to feed a very small child. And I also had to get up and get my check from another server bc no one came to my table, not once.

Google
The food here is always great! But the best part about it is the service.. I had the best waitress! Letisha made sure my drinks were always full and knew everything on the menu and suggested I try cinnamon pancakes which ended up being my fav! She was so kind and polite and treated me as if I was family... she deserves a raise!

Google
Hashbrowns are A+, bacon was great as well, the Cajun omelet was pretty good but reason for the 4 over a 5 is the sausage is too big and could be cut down a little more to make bites easier and the cheese could be inside instead of outside of it for a more cohesive bite. Also, I got delivery and they didn’t pack the biscuits and gravy, which gave me a sad face. I will be trying again and as always adjust my reviews as try more things. Recommend giving it a shot though. I also wish they had a spicy salsa for a spicy dish as the sweetness didn’t go together but was still great.

Yelp
Loved the food here breakfast was so good. The service was excellent cute little place to eat.

Yelp
3 stars! My husband enjoyed his bacon avocado sandwich meal. I ordered chicken and waffles. The chicken had no seasoning and was so tough. The waffle was probably cooked way before everything else. It was so cold that the pat of butter never melted at all when I was putting the chicken in a to go box. This place is quite busy, so the wait wasn't bad based on the amount of people. Took about 35-40 minutes to get our food after ordering. If I wait that long, I expect at least a warm waffle! My husband did have to ask for a refill on coffee, because the server never came back to check on us, which is why I couldn't ask for a Warm waffle (understand that they cook off as soon as you take them from the waffle iron, but should have been warm enough when it was removed to melt some of the butter). Presentation was good!

Yelp
The sausage patties are over cooked but again the hashbrowns are awesome. This impeller was great with good salads and they had a great sausage gravy.

Celeste H.

Yelp
This place was just average. I was expecting something in the lines of Another Broken Egg but it was more like IHop. Food was not bad but could have had more options other than your basic breakfast items.

Yelp
Nice family styled restaurant while I was driving through Ft Walton the catchy name grabbed my attention. Turned around and gave it a go. Breakfast is their thing so figured we would sample their sandwiches and salads. The burger and fries were solid though a bit greasy. The Chicken Quesadilla was okay but greasy again. The winner was the grilled chicken salad with bacon and cheese on it. Overall a friendly staff though our server Victoria wasn't very engaging. Asked her if she had suggestions and what sold best, and she wasn't very engaging, just said whatever you feel like. Was looking for direction. Once the food came she disappeared, but the other servers jumped in and were more engaged with us. She came around to drop off the check but didn't ask how we enjoyed our lunch. Over all the food was good and service was decent. Next time I'll try another family spot when driving through. There's plenty along the route.

Yelp
We ate breakfast here this morning, it was very good, very clean and friendly service, reasonable pricing. We recommend and would go back.

Yelp
The food was amazing! I ordered the chicken and French toast - the French toast was cooked perfectly! And the chicken tenders were seasoned well! I did get a side of buffalo sauce and ranch - both delicious! My husband had the big breakfast meal - and loved it! My uncle had the chicken and waffles - zero complaints! My auntie had the southwestern omelet - she devoured it! My son had the chocolate chip pancakes and bacon - zero complaints! The waitress (Jenna) was phenomenal! I hadn't seen my aunt and uncle in 12yrs - which we told her; not once did she rush us! She was very attentive and personable! She and the food, plus amazing company made our outing sup

Yelp
Friendly service and great breakfast. Their scrambled eggs were the best I've had in a restaurant. Would love to stop in again on our next trip.

Eveliss R.

Yelp
1st time here and love everything! I was welcome with a hot fresh decaf. By the way I had been other places for breakfast but this is the best place for strips; can't get over the 3 chicken strips freshly made because it reminded me of my mother's cooking, Keep it up!

Yelp
After 10 years of vacation on the emerald coast we finally tried this place and I'm glad we did, we will be back! The service was fast and we were seated right away (Sunday at 9am). The food was DELICIOUS. We were a party of three and each of us loved our meals and were super full when leaving. The ambiance is the only area I'm gonna not comment glowingly on because it was HOT in that restaurant. We were immediately sweating and I felt so bad for our server because man she must have been so hot. Anyways. Loved it! Will be back!!
google avatar

Carlos R.

Yelp
The food was great. Service was okay. There was lots of people, so there was a bit of a wait. However, the staff moved quickly to seat people as fast as possible. It was a bit loud.

Kishore J.

Yelp
Went there with my family. Service was awesome, food is amazing and ambiance is okay.

Yelp
Wanted to try Chicken 'n the egg for breakfast. We received excellent service from Miranda who was very knowledgeable. I got the Spicy steak omelette that was very good

Yelp
Food was good. Service was fast. Family friendly environment. I would come back. The staff was very welcoming and friendly.

Yelp
The service was great, the restaurant is clean, and the food was good. Super crispy giant onion rings, the blt was very fresh. The hollandaise was very good and the eggs were cooked perfectly.
google avatar

Yelp
So good!! But expect a wait. Perfect brunch spot. Real batter fried chicken breast, fluffy pancakes, savory (huge) omelets, balanced drinks. 4 adults & kid ate for $100 & we took home leftovers. I definitely recommend!

Yelp
Service was good. Food was okay. Got the build your own breakfast because I wanted French toast. Potatoes and eggs were fine, but the sausage was a little salty. Very disappointed with the French toast. It was extremely thin and soggy on the inside (without the syrup). Would not get this again.

Yelp
We drove past this place quite a few times while in Destin and decided to stop for breakfast on our drive back to NOLA. Got there around 10:30am on a Thursday. There wasn't a wait which was good. We were seated right away and the server also quickly arrived. I ordered the build your own breakfast combo with over medium eggs, bacon and hash browns, and pancakes. The hubby just got a fruit plate and scrambled eggs with cheese. Food came out quick and was delicious. I mean, it's a simple breakfast so really hard to screw up. The fruit was super fresh, the scrambled eggs cooked perfectly with a lovely buttery taste. My eggs were actually over medium which most places don't get right. The server was excellent too. She was busy but still managed to make small talk and always stop by our table. I'd definitely go back if we are ever in the area again.

Nicole W.

Yelp
Food: Delicious, simple, well seasoned Service: Polite, relatively quick, but there was a bit of a lag towards the end of the meal. I don't like to linger waiting for a check. I overheard the waitress who was waiting on another table use a (what sounded like) derogatory phrase, but I can't confirm that she said what I think she said. It just threw a me off for a second bc my kids were ear shot away. (She said it in a light-hearted way, but it's still not something I believe should be said in the context of what she was talking about) The conversation was loud. Ambiance: Meh...it's a former IHOP. I didn't care for the booths, but the food was good, so I got over it. All in all, we will return!

Yelp
Wow. I am in awe. This place was astonishing and exceeded my expectation by yards. Food was absolutely incredible, service was spectacular, the atmosphere was friendly! All in all, recommend 100%

Yelp
Good breakfast but it's hot or miss with the cook. Sometimes my potatoes come out great and sometimes not, too greasy. Overall the service is good and we like this place. A large menu for both breakfast and lunch. They close at 3 in the afternoon.

Yelp
Great place to stop for a family breakfast on the way to Destin. The service was impressive. Our waitress was attentive and super friendly. She brought our toddlers meal out first without me asking before our food so she could eat while we waited. Everything we ordered was super tasty but my favorite was the vanilla iced coffee, so delicious & refreshing. Family breakfast vibes here! My husband's Bloody Mary was delicious as well.

Kristy C.

Yelp
The food was good. The waffle was very fluffy. The pancakes were missing maybe vanilla. The music playing took me back to my younger years which I loved. And Jazzy did a great job of serving us. But it was very good and we would come back.

Yelp
The food (breakfast) is amazing and i love the service this is the update of ihop i suggest having breakfast here

Shantel A.

Yelp
The waitress was wonderful, friendly and very helpful. The food was very good too. However my 3 stars comes from lack of cleanliness. The place was just not clean. Plus I watched a server come out of the stall in the bathroom and go straight back to work. So they just aren't being trained in cleanliness apparently.

Robert C.

Yelp
I really appreciate great service and these guys deliver get service in droves. From the beginning when you walk in they Deliver. The food is also outstanding! I like spicy so I chose the spicy steak omelet with a side of home fries and sourdough toast. At no time was I felt rushed even though they were busy. This place will be my go to place for Breakfast or Brunch!

Yelp
Stoped in here for breakfast when i was staying in ft walton. It was pretty good kind of like a quick diner kind of vibe. Food was as expected nice place to stop in for a quick breakfast.

Yelp
First time trying this reataurant chain and stopped at the one in Ft Walton Beach. I ordered an omelette with the hashbrowns and a single pancake. All of the food was good and came out in short time. The waitress was very cordial and attentative. I went during the late morning so I got a table right away. Atmosphere was comfortable and the booths present a sense of separation with glass partitions above the top of the benches. I would suggest trying this place. I look to trying some other items in the menu on a future visit.
google avatar

Mikelyn P.

Yelp
Food was okay. Hot and fresh. Service was really good and pleasant. Clean restroom and eating area.
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food was fresh and hot. My twins both ordered a 4-stack of pancakes and both took 2 home! Very large portions.
google avatar

Elisa M.

Yelp
This is a great alternative to the chain spots that most people go to and personally I feel like the food was more affordable and tasted better. The staff were friendly and made sure that everything was satisfactory. Don't get discouraged if there is a wait, t moved quickly!!! I ordered a kids meal as I wasn't that hungry with a small bowl of cheese grits . . . Filled me up and I would come back!
google avatar

Edward P.

Yelp
Definitely a nice place for breakfast in the area but it can get a little busy. Plenty of options and for the most part everything was good. I had the Southern Comfort Breakfast which was biscuits and gravy, grits, over easy egg, and a side biscuit. The gravy was tasty but the biscuits were burnt on the bottom but it didn't really bother me. My wife had a Build Your Own Breakfast with Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, and French Toast. That French Toast was absolutely fantastic. Everything else was good too. Price was very reasonable and the service was good.

Hayden W.

Yelp
Food okay it's on par with other breakfast places. Service is terrible waited 10 minutes for drinks to be ordered and another 10 for them to arrive. Order our food and two different tables that arrived 20 minutes after us got their orders before us at our 45 minute mark. Needless to say to say the wait staff need training the menu can use some spicing up but the atmosphere is better than IHOP.

Megan S.

Yelp
We were sat before the quoted wait time, and our server was really nice! She gave us some local tips and made sure we had everything we needed. Everyone was super attentive and nice and the food was really good! The pancakes were fluffy and the chicken was fried perfectly with good flavor!
google avatar

Stephen B.

Yelp
Met some friends for a brunch and we enjoyed their menu everything from the Big BLT to the chicken and waffles to chicken and biscuits and eggs. Their onion rings are on point nice and crunchy and the onion doesn't slide out and slap you on the chin. Food was great. our server Zora and staff was fun professional and prompt. This used to be the old IHOP and heard the employees bought and opened up as the Chicken and Egg. It's a bit noisy but doesn't interfere with conversations at your table. Only real negative was bathrooms needed some loving attention. Great place to grab an affordable brunch.
google avatar

Keith M.

Yelp
If you've never paid 5 bucks for a cup of watered down, concentrated orange juice out of a bag, here's your chance. The food is okay but the prices have soared out of control.

Aylyn C.

Yelp
Customer service was pretty good, we waited a good 20 minutes for a table but we had a large party and it was a Sunday morning. Food was fairly priced and tasted great! I will definitely return if i'm in the area.
google avatar

S M.

Yelp
I would give zero stars if possible,,we are seated right away order immediately and my husband gets his order meanwhile I wait , flag down waitress and ask if she forgot my meal she says no it's coming and I wait he is done eating and still no meal for myself ridiculous! They had several empty tables what a total fail this visit! We we're going to leave with the full attention of paying for his meal but the manager was brought out so we explained what happened and she took care of his meal totally ridiculous of the waitress. Typically meals for a table are brought out together when there are only two? My first visit was alone and not great my poached egg was half raw but they did discount my check! Honestly would not recommend this place to anyone!
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
Omelet. Big. Adequate taste. 4 French toast. 5 Sausage patties. 4 Chocolate milk. 3 Temperature. It's chilly under this fan. Pancakes. 4 Cost. Better than the seafood restaurants in the tourist trap capitol.

Burr S.

Yelp
Absolutely awful food. I will go to McDonald's before i come back here. If you think this is like Another Broken Egg you couldn't be more wrong.
google avatar

Darrell E.

Yelp
We ate breakfast/brunch here 3 of the 4 days we were in Ft Walton. Nothing negative to say. Everything we ordered was delicious. Especially the cinnamon roll pancakes. Our server Mark was incredible. Definitely recommend this place!
google avatar

Kim H.

Yelp
This is your usual breakfast place. The portions are huge which is reflected in their prices. So bring your appetite. The service was fast...except our waitress went M.I.a at the end as they had computer issues. The booths have glass separating so it was quiet and private. Check it out
google avatar

Brian K.

Yelp
Great little locally owned spot! Clean, friendly and affordable. Our food came out super fast and hot. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Visiting the area on a family vacation and so happy we stopped by this restaurant. Everyone was so friendly and the food was amazing!! We had everything from omelettes, pancakes, a biscuit, chicken fried steak and breakfast potatoes; we all thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend if you're ever in the area. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because all of our order didn't come out at one time and we had to remind our waitress two times for items missing but she was nice. We appreciated the partitions between seats and made us feel safe during this Covid season.

Michele G.

Yelp
Went in and got hit with a odd smell like old cigarettes, got seated waited, waited, waited, then saw another couple get seated after us get service. Decided to get up,and leave

Christopher P.

Yelp
The food is awesome and the service is amazing. The Hollandaise sauce on their eggs Benedict is spot on and that's saying something. We make this place our Sunday ritual before church but they are open all week. Much better than the corporate chain restaurants and it supports local business.
google avatar

Jorge M.

Yelp
Delicious food and service at a good price. The country fried steak meal was amazing. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Chae H.

Yelp
We needed to find a spot to wait out a new exhaust - and so we came here. The prices we saw, were exceedingly reasonable for the amount of food we saw on plates. But, what got my attention was the attention our server paid. I lost my voice and was nothing more than a hoarse whisper - and after ordering and our drinks coming - our server brought me a hot water with lemon and some honey for my throat!! Analynn was great!! Attentive even though it was crazy busy for a Tuesday. The food was delicious!! Definitely will be back!

Tony B.

Yelp
Good food and good service. It was not crowded. The omelette was really big. Definitely had lots of eggs and all the fixings.
