We all know the kinda year fried chicken sandwiches have had and I am not ashamed to admit that I have a front row seat on that bandwagon. So glad Chicken Rebel decided to open up a standalone shop because the bf and I have wanted to try them out for quite some time (especially after we stood in line forever when they were still posted up at Avanti and gave up halfway through bc we were hangry).
Anyway, the space isn't very big, but open with a nice, stocked, festive bar. A couple of arcade games sitting to the side is a nice touch along with the awesome floor to ceiling chicken taking over an entire wall. I instantly dig it.
I took a star off because the chicken sammies are pricey and don't come with any sides, but man they are delicious. On my first visit, I went with the Rancher - fried chicken with avocado and a generous slathering of some REALLY good buttermilk ranch. I loved this and had to get a side of this same ranch for our tots. The bf ordered the Breakfast Fried Chicken Sammie which is the same breaded chicken with bacon, fried egg, and honey butter. Their chicken is breaded nicely, not too thick, and that meat inside is nice and juicy. On our second visit, I went with the Hometown Rebel (guac, bacon, rebel sauce). It was good, but I definitely missed that ranch.
Remember those tots I mentioned? We got ourselves the Rebel Tots which is a HUGE serving of crispy, fried tater tots with American cheese, rebel sauce, and caramelized onions. I love the variety of loaded tots they have on the menu - definitely enough to share for the whole table.
Don't underestimate that cocktail menu either. I tried their Self Esteem Punch and the Eleanor and both were tasty.
Really good chicken spot in the city with great drinks and wonderful service. If you're into fried chicken sammies like I am, please do yourself a favor and get on in there. I am just waiting for the perfect weekend to try out their amazing sounding brunch.
