We originally planned to eat at another spot up the road, but when there were no available tables, we decided to give The Chicken Shack a try—and we’re glad we did! It has a family-friendly roadhouse-meets-farmhouse vibe (minus the rowdiness), and it's conveniently located right on Route 66, near the Arcadia Round Barn. This is a family-owned broasted chicken restaurant, and even though we live just 40 minutes away, we’re already planning a return trip to try more of the menu.
PROS:
✅️ Great location on Route 66
✅️ Plenty of parking
✅️ Spacious dining area with lots of seating
✅️ The chicken strips were absolutely delicious—huge, tender, and perfectly cooked
✅️ We ordered the 3-strip meal and were glad we didn’t go bigger—these strips are generous
✅️ Booth seating (which we love!)
✅️ Not cramped—tables are spaced out nicely
✅️ Clean dining area
✅️ Kid-friendly atmosphere with a large outdoor space to let little ones run around
✅️ Outdoor seating available
✅️ Restrooms were a nice size and well-kept
✅️ Prices in my opinion were great for the quality and portions.
CON:
⚠️ It took about 20 minutes and flagging down our server to get a drink refill
OUR ORDER:
🔹️ Fried Pickles – Light, crispy batter and served with ranch. Really tasty!
🔹️ 3-Piece Chicken Strips – Large, juicy, real chicken pieces. We absolutely LOVED the chicken strips. We tried both the Chicken Shack Sauce and Honey Mustard. Both were good, but the Honey Mustard was our favorite—not too sweet and very flavorful.
🔹️ Fries – Simple and good.
🔹️ Fried Okra – Nicely cooked with a crispy exterior. I added a little salt, and they were just right.
🔹️Sweet Tea – Excellent! Just the right sweetness!
