Knuckles sucking good... damn near at my own fingers off! I've been eating at this spot since I was a kind, and my dad is close friends with the owner, but that's not the half of it. Yes, this place is in the hood, and yes, it has recently been discovered by other people outside the hood, so it has become bigger. However, Mr. Delpit never switched up and never changed. He kept his franchise local and only spread to 3 places, but if im not mistaken, he closed the one-off plank road. The only complaint is,if you dont call in and order, then you will have to place an order, and it could be as quick as a 2 minute wait or 30 minute wait. BUT EVEN A 30 MINUTE WAIT is worth it. The chicken is amazing and the staff is friendly and professional. They are always busy, but they make sure to speak when they see you. On the up, man, they went into the wing business, and it didn't disappoint. We had all the flavors, and it puts any of your big block chain wings to sleep. When you go say hey to Troy and tell him them, Johnsons sent you! He'll know the judges! FYI, theres daily specials, poboys, porkchop dinners, oh, and sweet potato pies! Knuckle sucking good !

This place has been a part of my life for over 50 years. They've only gotten better. They still have the best shrimp poboys in the country. Get a large because once you start eating, you'll want more once you come to the end of a small one, LOL.

By far my new favorite fried chicken. Every piece is a work of art. Perfectly crispy and extremely juicy deliciousness in every bite. The Mac and cheese, red beans and rice, collard greens and the Cajun rice were all fantastic. I also loved the catfish poboy that was loaded with fresh delicious catfish. The little sweet potatoes pies ended the meal with a home run. The lady that ran the place was a delight and a sweetheart. The menu has many other items I want to try.

First-timer. Cashier was very friendly! Food was good. Ordered a 4 pc white with red beans & potato salad. The wait was long (28 mins) but definitely will go back.

I would have to say no! Customer service was okay. We walked around the building to find a seat and each windowsill had black bugs, tables were dirty, and sticky. I’ve never eaten a breaded pork chop on bread..it’s always been fried and placed on sliced bread. The pork chop was not properly cooked, gummy, and red on the inside. My coworker and I both returned the pork chop with the stated concerns and didn’t want anything else and LET them keep the money as well. It was that dissatisfying. The side is an extremely small cup (maybe for a toddler) and was not satisfying. The sweet potato pie was tiny for the price and was diabetic sweet. There was too much of sugar in that pie. I would advise this location to pay closer attention to their audience, which the majority is African Americans who are prone to being diagnosed with diabetes. In addition, items with high levels of sugar makes it hard to actually taste the food. There seems to be a problem with producing quality food due to the influx of customers but that’s no excuse when it’s causing you to lose a customer and potential customers. I wouldn’t return for any reason and haven’t recommended any of my family/friends there. Eat at your own risk

Chicken shack was everything. The rice and gravy was so yummy. I haven’t had mustard green in a minuet. I’m from Washington, DC. I enjoyed my smother chicken. Would come back.

2 piece Tuesday great special. But just because it's a special does not mean half fry chicken. Batter is not the same on any day. Serving there friends or people they know first. Crust coming off chicken. Quality is no more. If I'm waiting for chicken why isn't it hot

Was well worth the drive , food was amazing and so was the atmosphere, quickly took our order & food came out quick, we had the plate lunch of the day and it was amazing, also ordered one to go, will return soon

Chicken Shack is our favorite fried chicken in Baton Rouge. Though there are places to sit to eat, we usually get ours and bring it home. The chicken is prepared in a way that allows the outside of the chicken to be very crunchy. People flock to chicken shack- try it for yourself... if you love yummy, flavorful fried chicken, give this a try. You'll need napkins! They have many side dishes like yams, fries, southern style cooked greens, red beans, rice and more. Rolls come with your order. We get the 12 or 16 piece. We enjoy it as a lunch the next day. This is soul food at its best. Try it!

The fried chicken is delicious The red beans are good The fish strips And the fried buffet of southern staples is so yummy and why I can't ever live on this state I visit once every two years or so! The sweet potato pie was also tasty as heck - help or I'll go back when on vacation!

Meatloaf and rice and gravy is phenomenal. I've had the sausage Poboy and it was really good too. This is real soul food.

I was in the area and looking for some lunch. I grab my phone to search Yelp and this place piqued my interest. I'm glad I stopped by. My food was absolutely delicious! I ordered a three piece chicken with potato salad. The chicken was very flavorful, it was crispy and both the breading and the chicken itself were seasoned. It seems like it is battered with a wet batter, but that's just my assumption. The potato salad was perfect, the potatoes were cooked just right, so many restaurants undercook the potatoes. It was very flavorful. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and it was very busy, it seems like the food is cooked as you order so keep that in mjnd. I waited for my meal but it was worth it to me. There is seating inside if you want to eat in the restaurant.

Great food at Great prices. Only complaint was the wait time. There was a long line. But the food is definitely worth waiting for.

Chicken Shack has the best fried chicken and turkey wing plates ever! Awesome service and a family ambiance. They sale fried chicken everyday, and Turkey wing plates on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Chicken Shack also sells other lunch plate choices throughout the week Monday-Friday from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM or until sold out. I used to visit them every Tuesday and Thursday when I worked less than 5 minutes from the Acadian location.

I heard about this place on TikTok.... This was a TikTok fail...lol. It's over rated & definitely over priced to be in the hood. This is my $15 meal!!

A great place for late night eats in baton rouge. The service here was fast and friendly. Very happy that i stopped by to support a local business and find a spot the locals enjoy. The chicken here was super crispy and juicy. Not everyday as a out of state person to see a pork chop sandwich but that too was soo damn good, not dry, nice and cispy and juicy. Definitely stop and check this place out!

I had the pleasure of eating at Chicken Shack during my summer road trip through Louisiana and Mississippi last year. The fried chicken was some of the best I've ever had, and the sweet potato pie was also top tier. Service was solid, and it's a no frills Southern-style cafe. The place was absolutely buzzing with activity during my visit as customers constantly streamed in and out to place and pick up their to go orders. This restaurant is a national treasure! I'll have to find an excuse to return to Baton Rouge again sometime soon.

Frankly everything. The "Shack" extremely clean and safe. The staff friendly and professional. The service was quick. The food was hot fresh and delicious. I'm from Los Angeles and the chicken cornbread greens fries beans and rice macaroni and cheese hit the spot. We eat went home (there) and went right to sleep.

Chicken shack is really yummy. They have a very wide variety of sides and different southern flavors. That's just perfect. The chicken is really yummy and cooked to perfection and very crunchy. There's always a long wait time though that's the only downside I can say about this place but other than that, I rate them a six out of 10.

I really enjoyed my meal here. The inside was very clean. The chicken was hot, fresh and crispy. The shrimp were delicious as well. The sides all needed a little salt but other than that were great. And the sweet potato pie was so good! I would come back for sure.

We wanted to make sure we hit a hole in the wall chicken spot before we left and the chicken shack seemed like the perfect place. Super friendly staff, everyone enjoyed their food and the prices were very affordable. Aside from the regular items be sure to check the board, they seem to add things depending on the day. This time I was able to get the meatloaf, I'm not sure if that's a regular item or not. Very good nonetheless. The cornbread was just Ok and the peach cobbler wasn't the best, but everything else was well worth it. Make sure to try their lemon pies.

One of our go-to spots when in Baton Rouge. Been here 3 years in a row and it never disappoints! Fresh crispy chicken cooked to perfection with great seasoning & taste. Can't go wrong with the red beans & rice for the side. Give this place a try when in the area if you're looking for some really good fried chicken.

Mannnnn..... this food was blessed by God. Never had better greens or rice dressing in my life. I'm a foodie that travels all over the country and I can tell you this place is bomb. The chicken is a little untraditional but it's crunchy and juicy. Dudes behind the counter were super cool and helpful too. My wife and I throughly enjoyed our meal there and we will be back for sure.

This place is the bomb dot com. The chicken has a little spice, some seasoning and a whole bunch of crispy. It was so good I came back a day later. The rolls are the boring dinner rolls like from an old time restaurant. Which it is. But they aren't good. I was talking with a man and he said the Mac & cheese is old school and not all that. But he said the red beans & rice are amazing. I'm sure I'll be back and try it all. This restaurant has been around longer than I've been alive. A true hidden gem.

Wow! There's plenty of parking in the lot, but even at 3pm, this place is pretty full. We get in line and ordered some chicken and fries. The batter is light and crispy - like what you would find on fish and chips, and it's got SO much flavour. The chicken is juicy, super juicy. The fries are deep fried in the same oil, so they're full of flavour and don't really need anything else. Highly recommended!

The picture speaks for itself. Two piece mixed - breast and thigh. Crispy, moist, flavorful. Best chicken I've EVER had. The sides are mouth watering. Worth every possible clogging of arteries it may cause be eating this. It's the closest thing to Willie Maes in the Baton Rouge area. The batter is different like a wet batter and crispy. The chicken pieces are big and juicy. Tuesday's they run a special on the two piece dark. I hardly come near the area so I always get the 3 piece dinner with two sides. The red beans are really good and mac and cheese is ok. Staff is friendly and they get you in and out. If you never had chicken shack you better get your boots on and come get some.

Bruh! Get in here right now! This place mayn. Red bean rice with sliced links them mustard greens and dang! Do ya self a favor and get the dark meat! The crunch on this meat! Grab some sweet tea a order of shack balls and crystals hot sauce and Go. To. Town baby! That peach cobbler got some taste too!

I wish I could give this place 6 stars . This place is Amazing and the folks working were not only friendly but helpful. I stopped in driving cross country and find it doing a Yelp search closest to my Airbnb. This came up and decided I needed to try the Fish and Chicken. I ordered the Large Fish dinner and a chicken breast. This didn't disappoint the food was amazing! The Fish and the Chicken had a good amount of crispness and the rice was really good. The Rolls are amazing!

This place looked abandoned but with people working there. The chicken had 0 flavor and was so oily it was crazy. An old oil taste to it. Fries had NO SALT I HAD TO SEASON IT. The guy that worked there was cool but he kinda had to keep the morale up or else he would end it all kinda deal. They dint have mac and cheese or cornbread. How you dont have both? It was the worst part of my day. Sometimes the worse the place looks the better the food is. Not this place tho. You feel like you about to get shot at all tines, and if you taste the food. Might as well choose that because at least you go to heaven and your not here eating dookie chicken. Be a good human and eat at a chain restaurant. While your here. And if you live here? Im sorry.

AMAZINGLY PERFECT FRIED CHICKEN! While we were there we were the only white guys in the place. Does that matter? If you want good soul food and fried chicken it often does. You could tell immediately these guys have fried a few chickens. Crispy, juicy, flavorful and that magic word everybody loves... Moist. The fried chicken was fantastic. The people were friendly. We had a great dinner. I cannot wait to come back to chicken shack.

Very fresh after 30 minutes it will still be good with the peppers and fries I recommend to go on Tuesdays

My Husband and my Sister law are chicken connoisseurs! We ordered a 12 piece mixed with greens and red beans & rice. I had 3 pieces and when we left we had 2 pieces left. This chicken is good and the red beans & rice were very good!!!!

My favorite day of the week is Tuesday because of the Popeyes two piece special. I almost always will order fried chicken if I see it on a menu. And almost always, it's hard to find a place that can do fried chicken better than Popeyes. I moved to Baton Rouge literally yesterday and trying Chicken Shack has turned my fried chicken world upside down Chicken Shack actually has a two piece special as well!! I got one of these along with red beans and rice, mustard greens, and a sweet potato pie The chicken was hot juicy and flavorful and had this unique crust that comes from what looks like a wet batter. Whatever it is it's delicious and I wanted more of it for sure The red beans and rice was decently flavorful but I didn't think was very special. The mustard greens were porky and savory, will get again. The sweet potato pie I thought was gonna be overrated, but one bite in and I was in heaven. This thing tasted like candied yams which I don't usually like but was amazing here

If you want Baton Rouge style soul food of southern chicken, this is a place to try. This chicken is deep fried to crispy. There was a line during the lunch time when we arrived. The board shows daily special, I saw the picture some others Yelpers post including oxtail. But our visit did not have it. There are many patron from nearby community college employees visited here. I have two pieces chicken with Cajun rice and collar green. The chicken was fried with the skin separated from the meat and crispy. I also like the chicken with good flavor. The side is not my favorite. The rice can be better. The green definite can improve. The other order is the shrimp popboys. Shrimp was coated and fried. A lot of shrimp but the size is small. For the food I like the chicken. Not sure the rest of side will make up for it. This is about 3.5 stars restaurant. No half star in Yelp. 4 is given.

The best damn poboy and fried chicken we have ever had, we where driving through from Florida to Galveston Texas and yelped upon this spot. The chicken is juicy and flavorful and the poboys and sides are top notch if you got 10 minutes to jump off I10 stop here.

One of my favorite places to get chicken! I've eaten from here 3 times in the past 20 days. Atmosphere: this place is always busy when I go! Lunch, it's packed but they get the orders out quickly. Dinner, it's still packed but they still give great service. Taste: they don't skimp on freshness. It's fresh at noon and fresh at 9:30. I always get a mixed meals (either 2 or 3 pieces) and I get it to go. It's piping hot from the time I get until the time I get in my car and drive home. I always save the biggest piece for my leftovers the next day. It reheats extremely well. Their sides are delicious too. They're spaghetti and cheese is flavorful and the red beans and rice is filling and yummy! Service: quick, friendly, down home service. They know they have a job to do but still make their customers happy and laugh and joke along with them. Parking: is in a lot and while it's always packed, there's always available parking. There is no drive through. Convenience: You can call ahead to order and pick up and also order through Waitr and have it delivered. This place is a great experience and is inexpensive! You don't have to pay much for great food and they consistently prove this over and over again.

Arguably the best fried chicken in Baton Rouge. The locations aren't the greatest but it's worth the risk. Not a place to go if you're trying to eat healthy. Worth it.

Some places that look crusty have amazing food, But this doesn't apply for this place. The place is nasty looking, bathroom is nasty af. We had the chicken dinner plate with 2 sides. Chicken was soooo oily and barely had flavor. For some reason the chicken was super chewy idk how they made that possible. Oil tasted very old like they reused it 100 times. Fries were flavorless and tasted like frozen fries. Beans were OK they just tasted like they threw in a bunch of ham flavor in there. I understand this place is a staple to baton rougue but i bet its because they don't got many choices not because of flavor. If you live here im sorry but this place is the worst i'd rather eat at taco bell than here and have diarrhea for 5 days straight cus at least the food was good.

Let me start by saying "I Love Chicken Shack" was in the area today, ordered the "Shrimp Poboy" I was so disappointed, The bread was not toasted, the shrimp were under cooked and were Not Devined! It has been awhile since I've been there and it'll probably be a while until I get back.
